Default Display On Combo Boxes

Is there a way to force a combo box to display the first value in the list as its default value?

To be more specific the combo box needs to display this value when the parent form is opened or when you use VBA to change or add the row source.

When ever I use a saved query as the row source the default value is always Null.

General :: Auto Populated Text Boxes To Display Rows From Combo Boxes

I have strange issue when creating auto populated text boxes which displays rows from combo boxes.

In one database auto populates works with simple text box Control Source edit "=[ComboName].[Column](NumberOfColumn)".

Somehow same method doesn't wotk in different database: here one time I have to insert VBA code at On change Event:

Me.TextBoxName = Me.ComboName.Column(NumberOfColumn)

And other time it wont work with On change but only with After Update Event (code is same).

Another thing this morning happens was that when I tried to add new record trough form where combo box and tex boxes are located, MS Office suddenly stopped working after selecting combo box selection (with message Microsoft Office has Stopped Working). It is 2013 version.

I got it work after deleting and re-inserting VBA code to autopopulate text box at After Update Event.

Forms :: Cascading Combo Boxes With Default Values

I've got a form (frmMain) with two combo boxes (cmbCategory and cmbProducts). I have set the combo boxes up to be cascading, so that when you select a value in the cmbCategory box, it influences what is visible and selectable in the cmbProducts box. What I wanted to happen is this:

1. User selects a category
2. cmbProducts defaults to the most recently entered Product within that category, and the form pulls up that product's details.

I have the cascading combo boxes set up so cmbCategory has an AfterUpdate event that runs a macro. In the macro is the command to refresh the cmbProducts box, and the cmbProducts box's RecordSource is set to a query that filters the Products based on the value of the cmbCategory box. I then set the cmbProducts Default Value to a DMax command that pulls the largest ID number from the query. Everything works great, except when I choose one category (the correct product comes up, the latest one entered for that product), then go back and choose a different category without reloading the form. The cmbProducts box stays showing the previous Product, and doesn't automatically update with the latest product for the new category. So it works the first time out of the gate, then just stops working, and won't work until I close and reopen the form again.

I've tried the refresh command, and I've tried adding an AfterChange event to the cmbCategories box. Nothing seems to work! I also tried running a close form/open form command in cmbProducts' After Update to enable the DMax command again, but this blanks out my Categories and Products boxes (which it's supposed to... I don't want anything to come up when you first open the form, both should be blank until you start selecting values).

Forms :: Filtered Search Form Using Asterisk As Wildcard Default Value In Combo Boxes

I'm trying to make a filtered search form using "*" as a wildcard default value in combo boxes, this works for all the text fields except for the account number field (Numeric primary key). After quite a bit of reading up and searching, I tried using the following as the row source;

SELECT customers.ACCOUNT_NO, customers.CUSTOMER FROM customers; UNION SELECT "*", "All" From Customers;

But am still getting "#Error" in the combo box.

Queries :: How Can Query Display Info Based On Cascading Combo Boxes When Box (isnull)

I have a form with cascading combo boxes pulling from a table. They work perfectly, no worries. My problem now is if I do not enter information in every combo box (i.e. only two out of four combo boxes), how can I still run the query and get the appropriate information?

For example (these are my combo box titles in order):

Product
Type
Customer
Contract #

I don't want to necessarily look by Contract # all the time, but sometimes just by the general Product and Type to get a larger view. How do I set up expressions/criteria in my query to accurately produce that information? Right now it just produces a blank query table if I don't fill out all the boxes.

I've tried a couple of expressions with "isnull" criteria, but I must be doing it incorrectly.

Default Combo Box Based On Default Table Value

Hi Everyone,

I hope someone can help.

I have a form with a combo boxes and a table with relevant list and additional field, fldDefaultDrive (Yes/No Field).

Currently in order to set the default value, I have used the following code for each default;

However, I want users to be able to go into the table and change the default value if thier CD player default Drive is anything but D: Drive. I have tried to replace the D above with an SQL statement but with no success.

I'm trying to build an database for aircraft operators. I've got the basic tables structure and relationships but I'm stuck on building an search form to filter records by user input.I've got following controls on my form (unbound):

Attached I have a database that I've been working on which has a form called "frmCriteriaSearch". It is based off of the qryCriteriaListBoxUpdate query. I am trying to get the listbox in the second tab of the results section to work. It queries fine for the checkboxes, but I cannot get the comboboxes to affect the query (unless a checkbox has already been selected)

there is a way to convert multiple text boxes to combo boxes all at once, rather than right clicking on them one at a time, and selecting Change to.

I have a form with about 50 fields and most of them need to be converted to combo boxes. I'd always done it manually one at a time up to this point, but I'm trying to build up my learning and look for smarter ways to do things.

I am trying to make a search option in my form header. Right now I have two unbound combo boxes (CboAccountsfilter and cboCourseName) that I can use to filter my records. Currently, I can use the drop down for CboAccountsfilter and a list of accounts will appear. When I select one, the corresponding Course Names will appear in cboCourseName. This works fine...Code below. I would like to take the filtering a step farther and add checkboxes to filter the data. I my form, there currently exist several check boxes (yes/no)...(Priority, Rep Top Target, Manager Top Target, ect). I would like to have the option to use a check box to filter. I.E if I had a checkbox in my header called PriorityFilter, if checked it would only bring up those records that met the two combo boxes criteria and was a priority.

Below is the code I have so far...it doesnt have anything for the checkbox because I am at a lost of how to get started.

How To Default Your Input Boxes To A New Record Screen

i'm new to this access thing and its so hard! i've made a form with a text box in it where addresses are entered. once i hit enter it records this. The problem is each time when i load the form it defaults to the first record. is there a where to make the form default to add new record? i would be so so so greatfull if someone could help me. thank you

Display Control Source OR Default Value In Textbox

Table1 has field (% Completed this Period) that may contain a value, or may be NULL for each entry, depending on how much work was performed that period. The records are sorted by date.

Form1 has a textbox that basically keeps a running tally of "% Completed to Date" by summing the "% Completed this Period" for the current period and all previous periods. So, my Control Source for the textbox is the DSum(...) function.

The problem is this: If I am looking at the first record and there is a 0 (null) value for "% Completed this Period," (i.e. No work was completed that period), I want to display 0 on Form1. However, Access just displays nothing - a blank textbox. I tried making a default value, but nothing will show up since I already have a Control Source set for that field. If I take the DSum function out of the Control Source, then the 0 will show up. But, obviously that defeats the whole purpose of the textbox. I guess I'm trying to figure out how to display the DSum value IF it is something other than 0, BUT IF IT IS 0, then I want 0 to be displayed. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a form which displays records based on a selection from a list box on the form.

The default record displayed when I load the form is record 1 from the table, this is not an issue when I initially load the form but I also have options to filter the records displayed in the list box using various SQL statements, depending on the options selected.

However, when I apply one ofthese filters to the list box the default record displayed on the form still defaults to the first record in the table, which may not be included in the filtered list box.

Is there a way I can default to the first record listed in the list box rather than the first record in the table.

Combo Boxes / Text Boxes

Hi guys, I have a related databes with about 20 tables.

My main table stores the data linking with most of the other tables. This main table stores football match records with player line ups. Initially I had a problem linking the 11 player fields in the main table to the player table, Icould only do it with 1, so someone at work suggested to link it using the lookup function. This worked brilliantly. However, now I am designing a GUI with forms but the forms have combo boxes where the lookup function was used and when i change these to text boxes, the players names are replaced with their ID numbers.

Is there any way of creating the form without the unsightly combo boxes, as they won't be needed, the GUI will be read-only. I look forward to your help!!

I have a table that has client names and addresses. I have designed a form to be able to invoice these clients and everything is fine however what I'd like to do is have the address of the client appear automatically.

I have set the client names in a combo box and would like their address to appear in either a text box or sunken label automatically from the table. Is this possible and how do I do it.

Please keep in mind that I've done basic programming so please be kind to this newbie :D

Hi everyone,
I have been making progress with customizing a
MS Access program, but one major problem is that
I have been trying to make a List Box or Combo Box
that I can use to enter data in the TABLE, but I
find that I get a pull-down list that has the list of
values from only the parameter that is primary key.
More specifically, the program is set up as follows:
I have two tables in this program: One that is called
"invoices" and one that is called "items". In both of
these tables, there is one common parameter, which
is "Item Number". Item number is the primary key,
and I used the "relationships" function to tie this
parameter to itself between the two tables.
I was successful in setting up a list-box for the
"Item Number", but when I try to set up a list-box
for another parameter that is supposed to display
a person's initials, the pull-down list displays the list
of item numbers instead of the list of people's initials.
In fact, I don't know if there is an extra step I need to
take so that the database stores a list of people's initials.
Instead, I just fill in the initials in the field for each
record for which the "Item Number" is the primary key.
How can I get the list-box to pull down a selection of
different people's initials, or in other words how can I get
all the people's initials to be stored so that the list of
initials can be looked up. Just so you know, I have tried
different choices of entries in the "Lookup" tab in the
Design mode of Tables, including Display Control,
Row Source Type, Row Source, and Bound Column,
but the outcome is that the only parameter that I
get get in the pull-down list is the primary key, which
is Item Number.
I appreciate any help you can offer in explaining how
to correct this.
On a separate note, one of the parameters is "Date", and
on the reports, I'm trying to figure out how to filter a
specific date range so that I can limit each report to a
specific month. Please advise me on this procedure as well.

Combo Box Determines Default Value Of Second Combo Box

Scenario: I have a combo box in an evaluation db that is set up to return 3 columns - EmpID, Name, JobID. The combo box only shows Name, but properly updates the neccessary fields on the screen.

Problem: I would like to turn the JobID txt box into a combo box that would default to null prior to a Name selection (on a new record) and then default to the recorded JobID after Name selection. 99.9% of the time, this won't be used, but occasionally an employee will receive an evaluation for a JobID they did, but were not officailly assigned.

The right way to do it would be to create a second record in the primary system that I am polling the data from, but that is not feasible given the nature of that system.

Any ideas?

I have a basic form that includes check boxes. All works well. But on my (Windows 8) machine, the check boxes display as big ugly black squares. If I open the db from any another machine (Windows 7), check boxes display as I'm used to with a nice outline and bluey tinge to the middle if not set! All machines have Access 2013 on them.

Hi guys,

I'm obviously doing something stupid in my form :-) If you open the form in the attached sample you will see that I have 2 combo boxes. One of them has a default value showing and the other doesnt, I want to get the second combo to automatically show the value in the list but just cant seem to get this to work...

I cant work out whats different bewteen the two. Been tearing my hair out here so would appreciate some input.

Hi guys,

In my form I have a combo box that is bound to a product/specification table.

When clicked, this combo box displays a list of products, each with its respective set of specifications (although I configured it so just the product column can be seen.) The reason I do this, is so that the specification values (against which certain other values in the form is critiqued) will be a static value in the form itself, and not a changeable value in a table.

What I want to do, however, is to let the combo box assume a default value when the form load (it must already have a product selected at start-up.)

How can I do this?

Hi all,

Can some one help me with how to set a default text on a combo box whose record source is set to a query?

I have a form with two combo boxes. The first combo box’s record source is set to the following query:

SELECT chrCategoryID, chrCategoryName
FROM tblGuarCategory;
My 2nd combo box will list all the items based the category I select on the first combo box.

But when the user opens the form, instead of showing both combo boxes blank, I would like to display the following text:

Combo Box1: Select a category
Combo Box2: Select an item…

I tried to use the combo box’s Default Value property like = “Select a category”. It didn’t work. I am not sure what is missing here. I appreciate your help.
