We have created a program with Access and we have all our records in it. We created a field and we need to find a way to have all our existing records use default information to automatically populate that field.
I have an existing table that has calculations. When I added a new field with an default value of zero, it did not populate the existing records. Now my tables are not calculating. How can I update the existing records with the new default of zero.
I have a form with information on it relating to several linked tables. I would like this information to be duplicated in the tables and a new autonumber assigned.
Is there a way that I can do this by clicking one button and the autonumber will automatically generate a new number keeping the rest of the information in the form and updating the tables with a new record?.
I'm trying to import information from an xls file into an Access database.. I understand how to use the File --> Get External Data --> Import option in Access, however I only have the option of importing the information into Sheet1, Sheet2 etc
I already have a table named Info1 which I want to import the information into
-Existing Access Database contains tables with 1-2 million records
I would like to add a field[dol] to an existing table[rei]. I need this new field[rei].[dol] to be populated with existing data from another table[main] based on the associated field[main].[account1] or [main].[account2] or [main].[account3].
In the [main] table. There is always data in [dol]. But there is NOT always data in the [account] fields. Sometimes there is multiple account numbers per [dol] but not always.
Customers will ALWAYS have at least 1 [account] number and [dol]. Some will have multiple [account] numbers and [dol]. Sometimes these [account] numbers are the same in multiple fields[account1] [account2] [account3].I just need to do a lookup or something to find the [account#] and pull in its [dol] from the [main] table and populate it in [rei].[dol].
Can I use the append query to update a table by replacing all existing information with updated information while at the same time adding all data that isn't currently in the table?
Right now every time I run the Append Query it just adds the same information as a new row instead of replacing the existing row with the updated information.
Hello, I have been looking around trying to gather as much access info as I can. I could really use some help with what seems like it should be pretty basic to me. I am making database for excavation estimation and have a table with my equipment and a field for default costs. I then have a table where I assign costs to a specific job. So I would choose a piece of equipment from the equipment table and then would like the default values entered in from the equipment table into the job table for the default costs. So a default value is put there that can be edited for the specific job. I am guessing I need to enter something into the default data area on either the table or on a field on a form? Can anyone give me the format for putting this in. The primary key in the equipment table (auto-number) is linked to a foreign key in the job table. Thanks in advance.
I'm trying to create a new field based on two existing fields as part of a select query. Two tables in the query each have a "HOSPITAL" field which is an indicator for "Y" or "N" for each department (in the DEPTLOOKUP table) and for each facility (in the Facility Lookup table). I want to create a field whereby a new indicator is created so that a Y is given for each record only where the facility and department HOSPITAL indicator field is both "Y". I have attached a word document that has a screenshot of the query in design view as well as the access sql code.
Now, in the amendment field, I've inserted a combo box, with 3 options in it. Let's say option A,B and C...The thing I want access to do, is, when option C is selected, I want fields Period, Salary and Shift to be automatically "Yes".But if option A or B is selected, the the user must choose what the other fields are going to be either Yes or No
Hi. I have a table with a NAME field and a GENDER field.
How would I code a query so that if the gender is MALE than MR. would be added to the front of the existing data in the NAME field? MRS. if gender is FEMALE?
i.e., the result would be MR. SMITH, MR. JONES, MRS. CARSON...
I am trying to add an existing field from one table into another table but the table Im currently in shows that option to be greyed out. What would cause that option to be greyed out?
I'm trying to include a field in a form by putting the form in the design view, however, when I try to press the button 'Add Existing Field' or 'Property Sheet' in the Tools group Access doesn't do anything.
I have tried to search on the web for possible solution but I haven't found one yet but I did read about disabling the shift-key feature which may have something to do with it.
I have a table with more than 700,000 records. There are no unique fields or unique combination of fields. I would like to add an AutoNumber field but when I try I get the message:
I am trying to add a new email field to my existing database of 900 employees. I have imported an excel worksheet of email addresses into a new table that has lastname, firstname, employee#, email. The primary key on the new table is email. The primary key on the employee table is employee#, and there is a new field titled email.
The email field in both tables are text fields. In running an append query, it either adds 900 to 27000 additional fields of email only or it says cannot complete because of key code violations. On the join properties I have clicked on #3 all records from source to only equal fields of destination.
I have a form (frmCompany) which has two combo boxes (cmbCompany and cmbCity) which is used to add field data into a table (tblCompany). The Company field is the only required field the other is optional.
In some cases I may wish to add a City, at a later date, to an existing Company using frmCompany. I now select the company from the cmbCompany combo box then add the city to cmbCity. The problem is that when I close the form I get two companies in the table with same name, one has a city and one does not.
How can I add a new City to an existing Company, using the form, without adding a new Company?
I'm building a database to calculate yearly fees for customers. I have a list coming from our accountancy-database that shows a field with the clients name & surname combined and I have a table named 'customers' that contains the clients names & surnames as separate values.
The first table (let's name it "accountancy") thus contains a field "Customer". Example data in this field:
The second table ("customers") contains the fields "ID, name, surname". Example data in this table:
1;"John";"Doe" 2;"Marcy";"Free" 3;"John";"McLane"
Now, what I'm looking for is a way to replace the 'Customer'-field in the first table by a lookup field that contains the correct ID for that customer in the 'Customers'-table.
Lucky thing: there are no doubles in the customer's table, so no two customers have the same name AND surname.
I am adding a exisiting field which is already available on a Global Table and would like to add it on a local table within the same database. Also bearing in mind the db contains main objects - Tables/Queries/Sharepoint lists/forms/reports
Whats the process in doing this? Once added how does the data get populated?
I have a query in design view that consists of two calculated fields at the moment. One of the calculated fields is supposed to add one year onto a value from another date/time field called "Last_Date."
The expression I've written in the "Field:" box in Query design view is
Expr 2: DateAdd('yyyy',1,[Last_Date])
When I try to run the Query it doesn't work! Access just prompts me to enter a parameter value for Last_Date.
I'm trying to write a query that will validate a field in an existing table. I want the query to show where any of the 412,000 records fail this strict validation:
AAnnnnnnA
...where A is any letter A-Z and n is a digit 0-9
Clearly I can use the LEN function to check for invalid lengths (anything <>9), but I'm looking for a simple neat expression I can use that will check the format. Does an existing function already exist before I resort to writing my own function in VBA (again)?
I am looking for a way to add a calculated field to the end of an existing query using VBA. Is there an easy way to do this?
The data I receive from an external supplier shows monthly data split by column with a new column added in each month. I then need to reflect this by adding a new column to the end of the query. It is currently a manual tweak, but I want to automate this with code.
I'm trying to add a combo box field to an existing table and form. I added the new field to my existing table and set it up as an combo box added my row sources. Then added the new field to an existing form and now am getting a error stating "The record source "Table name and added field here" specified on this form or report does not exist. When I just make the new field a text box instead of combo box it works just fine.
I have a field called uniqueID which I would like to update based on 2 other fields that are already populated in my recordset (from running previous queries). I heard it is not possible to do an Update Select like shown below.
select max(uniqueID) from myTable where a = "value of field a from first record in record set" and b = "value of field b from first record in record set"
If it is true that I cannot do an Update Select then I am trying to do something in VBA. How can I Loop each row in the record set and store the values from fields a and b. I would obviously then need to pass those values into the sql above and store the result in a variable. I would then do a straight update to put the value of uniqueID into myTable.
Have a table with data in it and I want to add a new field to uniquely identify each record (simple numerical sequence like 1, 2, 3, 4.....). I don't know VBA and don't know SQL.
Tried opening the table in design view, adding a new field with "autonumber" as the data type but get the following error msg: "File sharing lock count exceeded. Increase MaxLocksPerFile registry entry". The table has about 750,000 records in it.
Hello. I am looking for a way to make a field value automatically default to the value of the immediate prior field. For example, I am in record 11, and in Field "City" I type "New York." When I create record 12, I want City to automatically default to "New York." Is there a way to do this?
