Deleted Dollar Signs From Database - How To Put Them Back

Jul 1, 2014

I accidentally (really don't know how I did it) deleted the dollar signs from the entire database that I use daily. I did not set this database up, and don't really know how to much more than enter the data, and do basic stuff. How can I put the dollar signs back on all the forms/queries/reports that I use daily?

Roundup Dollar Value

Apr 21, 2008

Is there a roundup function in access? I need to complete a calculation, using a rounded dollar value. If the dollar value is $15, keep it as $15...if it is anywhere from $15.01 to $15.99, I need the value to round up to $16.

Update A Record When A Certain User Signs In The Db

Dec 12, 2006

The Database is not split. Have 30 some users.
Here is what I am trying to do.

I have Mary, Sam and Bill logged into the database.

When Mary signs in she has no records to update, but when Sam and Bill logs in they have records to update.

How can I get a message just to Sam and Bill, but not to Mary?

I have a qry what records needs to be updated.

Just how would I go about this? I thought I had it when I use the "environ" but that just shows who is logged in. I am sure the form has something, but I haven't found out where.

Can you point me in the right direction?

Rounding Dollar Amounts

Nov 9, 2006

Hello Everyone,

I'm using the following on a form in my database:

=(-Int(-Sum((IIf([LineTaxExempt]=Yes,(([Qty]*[Price])+([ShippingHandling])),
((([Qty]*[Price])+[ShippingHandling])*1.06))*100))))/100

In this case, I want to calculate a total for an order. If the
LineTaxExempt field is checked (meaning tax exempt), the total is
figured by the ([Qty] field X [Price] field)+the [ShippingHandling]
field.

If the LineTaxExempt is not checked, then the above total, including
shipping, is multiplied by 6% sales tax or 1.06. I then want this
value rounded up to 2 decimal places. This control is a running total
of the order.

This works most of the time, but I have run into a few rounding errors.

For example:

With exempt checked

1(Qty)X27.90(Price) + 6.44(ShippingHandling) gives me $34.35
instead of $34.34

With tax exempt checked (and multiple lines)

2(Qty)X141.02(Price) + 0.00(ShippingHandling)
10(Qty)X4.12(Price) + 0.00(ShippingHandling) gives me a
grand total of $323.25 instead of $323.24

It's frustrating because it seems like it works part of the time and
rounds wrong the other part of the time. By "rounds wrong", I mean I
set it wrong to round.

Is there a better formula to use in a form or query to round up to 2 decimal places other than the
=-Int(-Sum([Fieldname]) * 100) / 100 method that will give me the right results?

Any help/examples would be greatly appreciated on how to
modify this to give me the correct result each time.

Here are my field types:

QTY
-------
Field: Double
Format: Standard
Decimal Places: 2

Price
----------
Format: Currency
Decimal Places: 4 (some unit prices are 4 digits--Example $1.2525)

ShippingHandling
-------------------------------
Format: Currency
Decimal Places: 2

Thanks,

-Chad

I have been searching and searching and cannot find any info on this specific problem.

I have a subform that users go into and enter data into the fields. Intermittenly, when a user closes out and then goes back in, the data in one of the fields (always the same field) is missing and has been replaced with ########.

Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,

Forms :: Plus Signs In Calculated Controls / Fields

Jan 30, 2014

Why can't I ever get these to work properly? I want to use them to ignore null fields so that I won't get the punctuation but it isn't working.

Here is what I have but the commas still show up:

=IIf([Status]=1,(+[MailBoxOrPOBox]) & (+", "+([CompanyLocID].[Column](2))) & (+" ,"+([CompanyLocID].[Column](3))),"")

is there a better way than trying to use these + signs??

Forms :: Date Fields Change To Pound Signs

Mar 16, 2015

Just switched from Access 2000 to 2010 and now on many forms and reports where dates are displayed, you see ###### instead. I realize that widening the field fixes this but there are a lot of forms and reports in this database to go through and change all of them.Is there a setting somewhere to have the date fields display properly even if the text doesn't completely fit in the box?

General :: Formatting Columns To Not Round Dollar Amounts

Mar 7, 2013

I've run into a situation with our Access Database where sometimes when we import information into it from an Excel sheet the dollar amounts get rounded out. For example, the amount of $726.68 shows as that in the database but when you click on the field/cell it's in it shows as $726.6799. It doesn't do this for every field which is weird. The data from the excel sheet is not roudned out either, it shows the amount as $726.68 so it appears to be something funny going on with Access. Under the formatting area, the data type is set as currency and format is currency.

Take My Database Offsite And Back?

Dec 28, 2006

Howdy all.

I need to take my database 50 miles to a factory site so that an engineer and I can review/modify all the records, ~450 so far.

Can I copy the front end and back end files to my laptop, review edit the data offsite, and then overwrite the back end file on my server when I get back? Are there any issues with doing that?

Thanks,

Reports :: Currency Symbol - Print Dollar Sign In Front Of Amount

Jan 16, 2014

I have several reports where the currency was always reported in dollars so for the fields in question I had a format of $#,###.00 which printed the dollar sign in front of the amount.

As the system has now become more sophisticated I need to print out a currency symbol depending upon the client. I have a currency table that links into the client so my query 'behind' the report holds the right symbol but how do I get it ito the report. I Know I can define a second field that will hold the symbol but to me this is a clumsy way of doing it. Is there anyway I can put the symbol in the control source for the data or into the format of the field or some other way?

How Do You Ix A Broken Database When You Can't Touch The Back End?

May 17, 2006

I have been asked to take a database created last year and re-design it to make it more user-friendly.
Not a problem, I thought when asked but I am running into a little problem...(the database designer)
In my opinion, to make a system more user-friendly there is a necessity to access the code and tables in order to gain a reasonable knowledge of the way in which it has been constructed. Unfortunately, although I am allowed to LOOK at the front end, I am not allowed any further access to coding or back end information.
At present middle management are siding with the database designer as they feel that from a security standpoint, access needs controlling (I can agree with this to an extent)
Does anyone have any ideas of how I can talk the management round or any suggestions for a way through this issue?
(Oh, and I'm not allowed to build them a new database and substitute it...I already asked)

Jason

Split Database Back End On FTP Or Web Server

Jul 12, 2007

Hi, I am not sure where to put this thread hopefully someone here can help me.

I have spent a good deal of time developing a very effective access database for a client. It is split into a front end and back end and connected using the Linked Table Manager when necessary.

The front end is quite loaded with queries, reports, forms, macros etc and the back end simply has the tables.

The front end is about 15 mb and the back about 8 mb.

Current set up is a small workgroup network with about 4 -5 consecutive users at any one given time.

I am looking for some advice on how to set up or facilitate getting the backend on the internet so anyone with a front end can access it outside of the LAN.

Today I set up an account with WebDrive which can connect to and assign a drive letter on your pc to any FTP, HTTP site.

I made the connection with WebDrive and using the linked table manager successfully linked the tables on my local machine to the back end on the FTP server - and actually ran the database at a pretty good rate.

I noticed however that it was downloading the backend to my local pc and once I closed the (a) form it was uploading the data back to the server? Very slow and often threw errors.

This of course is not what I wanted. Has anyone heard of doing this? Any work arounds or setting params would be greatly appreciated.

I have been told to create the DB in ASP but I do not have any idea on how to do that whatsoever...

Any advice or insight would be awesome!

Thanks!

General :: How To Set Up Access Database As Back-end Only

Aug 8, 2015

I plan on using Excel as the front-end and Access as the back-end only. (all queries and forms are in Excel). A single Access database will be queried from multiple Excel files that will be located on the share drive (Linux server). Access tables contain memo, text and number fields. Data will be sent to Access tables and records will be appended/deleted; all via Excel.

There will be multiple users interacting with a single Access database via multiple Excel files located on the shared drive. Users will be interacting from different workstations with Windows 7, all have Access 2010 and Excel 2010 installed.

This process works for me from my workstation but I am not sure what will happen when other 4 people will be sending/appending/deleting records to the same Database? How do I make this work? What settings do I need to check in Access to make this possible?

This works fine on a network but I thought I could load the backend up to my webspace and then with the links manager point to it, but it doesn't work. I get an error report of 'not a valid file name.'

The website is [URL] .... and the backend database name is Probus_data_A.accdb and so I entered [URL] .... as the address in link manager.
