May 31, 2006

Could someone please give me a link or place to find a descreption of all the "More Tools" that you can use when building a form. If I had a list I could pick what is best for my database and explain things better to management...thanks.

Lost Menus In Access... No View Or Tools After I Messed With Tools/Startup

Dec 17, 2004

I wanted a Switchboard page in Access to open automatically when the database was opened. I've done that but, as I did it, while in the Tools/Startup to set Display Form Page (in this case a switchboard page but it's not opening full screen and I ow have no way of editing anything), I stupidly de-selected the options there...
Display database window, Display status bar, Allow built in tool bars allow toolbar/menu changes.

Now I have lost the tools Menu, the View Menu and others (where one sees, File, View etc at the top of the window) and I can't work out how to get them out. I can no longer view my Access pages in Design View so I can't amend the any pages.

Can anyone tell me how to get my View and Tools menus back on my Access app window?? It's a bit of an emergency... been up all night and have to hand this in as coursework at uni in about 3 hours and I've screwed up right at the end and can't do the last couple of things before putting it on a CD for my tutor to mark.

Help!

I'd also like to know how to get it to open the first form at full screen.

Thanks.
Ceri

Security - Allow Query Building, But Not Table Building/modification

Sep 23, 2006

I've been trying to figure this out, but it looks like a no go.

I wanted to give my users the ability to create/modify queries, but NOT create/modify tables.

Does anyone know if this is possible in Access 2002?

Thanks,

Earl

Forms :: How To Add Description Of A Field In Form

Jul 7, 2014

I am new to Access but I worked with data and database before (but not with Access...). I am currenty trying to set up a database where multiple users will have to enter the data.

What I am struggling with is how to customize the form. I would like to make the form as easy as possible so that other users can easily enter the data. For example, how can I add the Description of the field in the form? Suppose the FieldName is Country, the Data Type numeric and the description is "List countries the study was conducted in" how can I make sure this appears in the form?I have used textbox under Form>Format but it does not seem to work: the textbox remains empty!

Modules & VBA :: How To Access Description Inside Form Error Event

Jul 31, 2013

I'm trying to extract information from Err.Description within a form's Error event. Alas, Err.Description does not seem to be available from there.I have a form that normally displays in DataSheet view. If a trigger on the Oracle back-end raises an error, I want my Access app to be able to parse out Err.Description and deliver a more user-friendly message than ODBC's message. I want to get the info about the message from the error coming back from Oracle, not by matching up error codes.

If I change the form to Single-Form view and put a Save button on it, I can capture Err.Description in the command button's Clicked() event, and then parse out what I need.So if I must display this form in Datasheet view, where can I trap the ODBC error and display my user-friendly message?

Building A Filter Form

Nov 21, 2005

I am very new at all of this. I am trying to build a filter form to just pick out one item. I am trying to filter out Box Numbers that have been entered into the database to run reports on them. I think that I am missing the correct code to do this. I have tried to create a form off the query by just using the box number and then creating a command button to apply the filter. But this doesn't work. I'm sure that I'm missing a step along the way. Help!

Forms :: Display Description Field Instead Of Primary Key In Datasheet Of Split Form

Aug 8, 2014

I have a split form on my database where I have my combo boxes bound to a primary key but they display the description field so it's much easier to understand. Is there a way to do this with option groups? In other words, I would like the datasheet part to display the option group labels rather than the values so it is easier to understand.

No Tools Menu...?

Aug 4, 2005

I was just editing my Access database (stored on the intranet) when a message popped up saying "Disk or network error".

I clicked the only option ("ok") and closed the DB. When I reopened it, it said someone else was viewing it and I only had read permissions. I close it again, and see that in the directory where my .mdb file is stored I have the .ldb file remaining even though it isn't open.

I restart my machine, and try and open it again. I have to compact and repair the DB at Access' suggestion, yet now I only seem to have limited functionality....??

I.e. there is no Tools menu, I can't right click on forms or tables to choose Design View (although if I highlight them in the database pane and click the BUTTON for Design View I am able to proceed)....

What's going on?!!

I've tried going to File > Open and in the little arrow on the Open button choosing "Open Exclusive", but it opens and does the same thing as above...!!

I've checked a different database in Access, and I don't seem to have gone potty, in every other one I'm able to see the Tools menu, etc...?

Anyone got any clues as to how I can get my lovely database back on its feet and functioning properly?

Allow Built-in Tools Bars

Aug 2, 2007

Hello,

I created a database, and was trying to get the welcome form, to load full screen. So I unchecked all Menu bar and Shortcut bar (allow)

So I now have locked my self out.

Any ideas, I once remember something like ctrl while opening the database, but that does not fix it.

Thanks,

Extra Tools In Access XP

Mar 8, 2008

Although I have been using access for a year or two (self taught) I have only recently noticed that the form toolbox (the one with combo boxes and buttons etc on it) appears to have a library of procedure calls for calendars and all sorts of things sitting there waiting to be used. Is there a list somewhere of what all this lot does? I have been playing with a couple of date pickers but I don't particularly want to go through all of the rest to see what they do or if they would be useful.

Thanks

Can I Set Tools/Options/Edit-Find/Confirm In VBA?

Jun 9, 2006

Hi Guys & Gals,

I have a report that runs a number of queries via a macro in the on open property. These queries populate a table used in the report. The on close property runs a query to clear the table contents.

When a user ran this, he had a flurry of warning notices which I tracked down to the Confirm settings in the tools/options/edit find tab.

Is is possible to set these using vba?

I guess that this could be achieved using send keys, but this would probably be a bit clumsy - to say the least.

Can it be done so that the settings are changed only for the current session so that users have the original settings?

Any thoughts welcome.

Regards,

Keith.

Toolbars: View, Tools, Startup Menu

Aug 29, 2007

Hello,
I've read most of the General category on Toolbars and Startup Menus, but still can't figure this out. I have no VIEW or TOOLS on my toolbar, so I can't get to the startup menu, toolbars, or anything else. When I go to Customize, one option is Built-in Menus. When I try to drag the VIEW or the TOOLS to the menu bar, it won't happen. I have tried the Shift trick, but it did not work either. Can someone help me?

Opinion On Job Description

Apr 2, 2008

I was contacted today by a staffing agency and was told that I looked like a good fit for a Data Analyst position. The agency and wanted some more information about my resume and wanted me to email them my references. Next step I would assume would be an interview.

I did want to post the responsibilities of the job and see if other DBAs thought it looked like entry level work. The only thing I know about the company is that they are automotive and pay is under 40K. I have been trying to break into IT for the past few months and this looks like a great opportunity. :) I appreciate your comments.

Help Designating A Description To A Value...

Dec 11, 2006

I have a scheduling unit that associates a number to a particular name.

In this example Break=66 and Lunch=76.

What I would like to do is setup something that will tell me "which break". Like "Break 1" and "Break 2"

Here is what I have to work with:

Emp# ID# Code StartMin Desc
6666 5555 66 870 Break
6666 5555 76 1005 Lunch
6666 5555 66 1150 Break

I tried this thinking it might designate it based on the StartMin:

Desc: IIf([Code]=66 And First([StMin]),"Break 1",IIf([Code]=66 And Last([StMin]),"Break 2","Lunch"))

However this still just shows each as "Break 1". Any ideas would be great. Thanks.

Appending To End Of Line Description

Feb 16, 2007

I am wondering if it is possible to use a wildcard in an update query. I would like to add text (the same word) to the end of the line item description where the starting text values are different.

example:
want to add Quantum

beginning value is:Trendsetter II -> new output value would be "Trendsetter II Quantum"

Lotem 800 -> Lotem 800 Quantum
8up -> 8up Quantum
