I started creating the form, thought I'd have a larger size form. Then I found
that all of the users have a screen resolution of 800x600 and I was using
1024x768. So I reworked the form so that it would fit onto their screensbetter.
I moved things around, put this over there temporarily,
put that down there, pulled this out of the way, etc., so for a brief time
my form was twice as big as it normally is.
Now the sliders are way out there on my form and they won't go back. So I
have a huge amount of blank space around my form and it appears to the
user as though there's something out there. How can I shrink it back down?
Here's a picture, notice how most of it is empty space?:

I made a form with a subform - in the form header it just has the title, in the details it has details about level 1, then in the footer it has level 2 with all records assigned to level 1's ID. My problem is in form view the detail section takes up half the page, I only need it to take up an inch or so. I tried dragging it in design view and it seems to work in design view but once i switch to form view it still takes up half the page. I also tried changing the numerical height for the detail section in properties but it wont change.
Background: I have a database with one main table that contains info on a variety of organizations and the services they offer. Another table lists regions these organizations are located in. The services they offer are listed in 11 different categories, each with its own field in the main database.
The end product of the project will be several reports. In particular, I need one report that lists by zipcode, each organization, its contact info, and any details about its services. The data for each organization will appear on several lines, as shown below: --------------- Org name Region Address Driving Directions Contact Name Phone Comments
Food bank: details of hours, etc. Hot meals: details.... [any services not offered does not appear or take up any vertical space] ---------------
The problem: Since the reports will be printed and put into booklets, we need to eliminate any blank lines caused by empty fields. In many cases an organization will only have one or two categories, so the other 9 or 10 lines would be blank and take up too much space on the page.
What I've tried: First I tried creating SubReports so I could use VBA scripts on the On Print event on the Detail section to make the SubReport invisble if it didn't have any data (HasData is false). That did make the SubReport not print, but it still took vertical space.
I struggled with various combinations of Can Grow and Can Shrink, but kept having problems with multiple lines appearing where there should hav been one line, and sometimes they were blank lines (especially if I didn't allow duplicates and there were several entries exactly the same). Whenever I got that undercontrol, the fields with no data took up space. Frankly, I'm not convinced I ever got them to NOT take up vertical space. (Maybe I didn't get it right. I'm open to trying again.)
Then I tried concatenating fields onto one TextBox, like this: Code:=("Food Purchase: "+[Food Purchase]+Chr(13)+Chr(10)+Chr(13)+Chr(10)) & ("Utilities: "+[Utilities]+Chr(13)+Chr(10)+Chr(13)+Chr(10)) & ("To Prevent Eviction: "+[To Prevent Eviction]) That works, but it seems like an ugly hack. The Chr(10)+Chr(13) create new lines. The + instead of the & makes it so that if any of the elements inside the parentheses are null, none of them print. So I can eliminate both the label and the new line, too.
Isn't there a better way to eliminate the vertical space when there's no data?
I'm trying to make a form that shows what the last record was next to the empty space where you enter a new record.
This is so the user knows that what they are entering is roughly in line with what has come before.
So for example if I was recording temperature every May, I would like a form that has a field called temperature and next to that field I would like to see last year's temperature.
Firstly, I would apologise as I am not overly familiar with the correct terminology!
I need to create a "space" on my form whereby I can add comments etc which will exceed 255 characters: these comments will be specific to each record. I have tried having an "unbound" text box in design view but this makes the comments the same on each record.
I know this is probably "as clear as mud" but if anyone can help I would be really grateful.
Hopefully just a simple one??? I am using a popup form to input data into a display form which is on one page of a tabbed control. The display form updates through an afterupdate requery command. This all seems to work OK but when I enter the new record via the popup form then close it, it leaves a greyed out space and I lose input ability. I need to close down and when opened up all records are OK. If I drag the popup box on the screen it leaves a grey trail behind it. Any ideas on what could be the problem?
I have a continuous pop up form which, at the most, will contain about 10 records. The ten records take up less than half the screen space - but there is a bottom half to the form - even though there is nothing there. How can I get rid of the unused space on my form?
i want that when i press the space key on my keyboard oi will exit from the form. i searched on the interne t but i couldn't find the proper one. I don't know exactly what i have to write in vba.
I have a checkbox that determines whether or not to display certain form controls. How can I also hide the resulting white space that comes from hiding the form controls?
Can I put all of the controls in some sort of container and hide the container? The form objects are all displayed in order, so it shouldn't cause issue.
Can I create a subform for the objects and hide it? This would make the main and subforms based off of the same table.
Occam's Razor would be the preferred philosophy in this case. Nothing too fancy is needed.
I have a form with a subform on it. My subform gets populated by a lookup. On my main form I have an unbound (cboLotIDLU) lookup field and also a text box (LotID) that shows the chosen record. When I open the form my cboLotIDLU is blank but my LotID has an ID in it so the info for that ID is displayed on my subform. I would like everything to open up blank. I've looked around and I can't see where that first record is coming from. How do I get it so everything comes up empty?
In a continuous form, I know you can groupby in descending order. If you do this on a date field, then the newest record appears at the top. How do I make the blank record for entering new records appear at the top of the form instead of the bottom. Thank you.
I am currently creating a database using MS Access and I am having trouble linking the forms in the way I require. I have created the two forms and have linked them successfully. The first form is a menu which then accesses the second form which will be used to store records. The problem that I have is that each time I access the second form it always goes to the first record which has already been used. This means people have to scroll through until they find the next blank record. How do I create the link so that it always goes to an unused record:confused: .
Can anyone guide me to how to code a form that will not error when closed if nothing has been input to the first field which has the focus? I have a start up form that has fields connected to a table and if this database is open and the user desides not to use it then closes it without entering any data it will error. Is this a recordset issue? Thanks
I have a form that has validation rules, etc, and I want to let the user close it with custom error handling, so I was building a validation procedure for a form close button. The thing is, whether using Isnull, len()=0, or me.field.value = "", it only works until a value is entered. If the user enters a value, the form passes validation, even if the user then backspaces the data out. The only reasonable way to close the form as I see it is to check whether the record has been saved (via recordset),the user their changes will be lost (msgbox vbyesno), then use the undo command to clear the form making it safe to close it. I feel this is safe because my form validation will cover the save command.
(Access 2013). I deleted an old text box cell on a form and then I created a Combo Box from the design controls and it worked, but underneath it, the old label of the text box is still there, except now it's just described in the properties as an 'empty cell'. It still has the old text description showing on the form, but there is no caption field in the F4 properties.
I've tried everything I can think of to get rid of it, including closing the database and running a repair, but nothing works. I can select it, but I can't delete it or move it and I can't click into it to create a new label, hovering over it just produces the 'selected' cross hairs.
I am currently working on a database and I'm using a form to view the records. A standard Access behavior is to show an empty record (new record) as the last one. is there a way to disable this "feature". I would like my form to display only the records, which are really filled with data and not show the blank one at the end??
I have a logon form that always contains a value in the user name and password fields. How can I do it that these two fields are empty when the logon form is displayed? When I put this code in a program text12.value="" then it delete user name in database.
I have a form which is for searching for and then viewing a record based on a text box and pressing enter. This is working fine. My ID field is 4 digits and when I change the 4 digits and press enter it shows me the details for the record in all of the other boxes:
Private Sub txtJobID_AfterUpdate() If (txtJobID & vbNullString) = vbNullString Then Exit Sub Dim rs As DAO.Recordset Set rs = Me.RecordsetClone
[code] ....
My question is, as this is not a data entry / additions / deletions form (I have editing and filters to yes though) How do I get it to load empty? Not on a new or blank record but empty until I have typed my 4 digits. Just to clarify, my txtJobID box is empty on load but all of the other fields show the first record.
I would like to count a field if another is empty. I have 2 fields "registered" and "Started" and "closed"I would like to count all the fields "registered" if the field "started" is empty. I also want to do it with "started" if "closed" is empty.
In Access 2010, I'm writing VBA code that assigns an ADO dataset as the recordsource for a form. The query itself varies and is constructed from a search term typed in a textbox by the user. The code below works perfectly until the dataset is empty, when no records satisfied the WHERE criteria. In that case, there is a very long pause (presumably a timeout?) and I eventually get the error message "ODBC call failed." I tried to get around this by testing the number of records in the dataset (see toward the end) before assigning it, but it makes no difference in the behavior, so I'm thinking the actual assignment isn't the issue ... something else is.
If it matters, the "FROM qry_beneficial_owners" in this case is predefined query local to my Access db. That query is based on a linked view from a SQL server.
Code: Public Sub RunSearch(SearchTerm As String) Dim cn As ADODB.Connection Dim rs As ADODB.Recordset Dim sql As String Dim cols As String cols = "[acct], [acctname], [planid]"
I have created a form with a list view (active-x) to be able to control colors, etc in a list.
When I open my form, it is already information (three rows) in the list view. This despite the fact that I have shut down the access application and even shifted the database to another computer.
I can of course delete the elements with ListItems.Clear when I open the form, but I'd rather like that they did not show up at all.
Where these "default-elements" are stored, so I can remove them from the list view once and for all?
i removed the DIsTINCT in my query to move some field to be updateable on the form. Once I did that my detail section of my form was empty ..why and how do I fix this problem.
