End Of Recordset Navigation Default Message Box

May 5, 2006

:confused: I am having troubles in a form, whilst navigating through records shown in a form view, upon coming to the end of the recordset the default macro message box appears telling me its the end of the record set and then a second box appears after asking me to 'halt' the macros actions.

What I would like is to put in a customised message box telling me the end of recordset is nigh but I cannot get into the cod for the macro, I have been told you can and Im sure I have done it before.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Default Navigation Pane Layout

How do I get back to this? Somehow I changed it, now my objects are "shortcuts", and my original grouping disappeared. I tried to manually put it back to the way it was with the same names but now it thinks its "custom". Can I somehow just switch it back to its original view?

General :: How To Make Windows Default Navigation Work

Dec 17, 2013

How do I make the windows default navigation work to the following:-Next record that navigates to next, but does not create a new record when at EOF. New record that creates a new record.

I've tried turning off 'Allow additions' for the form, but that turns off the 'New Record' button, so that's not right Perhaps it's me but the default way in which the navigation buttons work is strange. I would have thought the next button would only go next and wouldn't do new.

How To Change The Default Duplicate Message? And More...

Jan 14, 2005

Hello to you all, it's my 1st post here…

How can I change the default message (as you can see in the picture) that appear every time that I try to update my record?

I want to write something like "You Have to select a different Number"

And one more question, the message only appear when I'm pressing the record selectorbutton only after the user has already filled all the form) is there a possibility that I can write a code that will check for duplicate data immediately after the user typed it?

Thanks for your help

"Recordset Is Not Updateable" Error Message

Feb 24, 2005

I have a form (frmAssign) based on a query which when opened directly from the database window allows me to update any of the fields.

BUT when I open the same form from a coded button on a different form (frmLastAssignment), my efforts to update any of the fields are thwarted and "Recordset is not updateable" appears in the status bar.

Process That Will Let Me Update
Open frmAssign directly from database window.

Process That Won't Let Me Update
Open frmLastAssignment, click on "Continue" button to open frmAssign.

Any suggestions of what is happening and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated!

If A Make-table Query Result Is Null, How To Have A Default Message Appear In Table ?

Jan 21, 2005

Hi everybody,

Beginner here needs help !

I'm building a make-table query for which if the result is null (no record correspond to the set of criterias), a default message like "there was no activity during the period" would appear in the table (not a message box...I need the message in the output table). The best I could think of is an IIF function but it doesn't seem to work... Is there any way to do this without using VBA?

Thanks in advance !

Modules & VBA :: How To Extract Recordset From Subform Into Recordset Object

Aug 14, 2015

Special situation: The SQL Server Linked Server across the country is linked to a Read Only Oracle DB. This data pull works perfectly and populates the Subform.

The problem is that Oracle can take 3 to 6 seconds to retrieve the single record depending on the network traffic through a small pipe.

The code below shows the RecordSource for the SubForm. clicking on a list box supplies the value. Then 3 to 6 seconds later, the subform populates.

The actual Recordset for this Recordsource is needed to conduct Validation on each field. Normally this would be on SQL Server, I might just create a Recordset Oject and run this SQL statement again in 1 milisecond. In this case, it will probably take an additional 3 to 6 seconds. Avoiding another lengthy round-trip to Oracle would be prefered.

Goal: How does one grab, clone, or other wise reference the existing recordset for the SubForm?

Note: Immediate Window - One single field can be returned quickly

There are 48 fields that need validation - is there a way to reference the entire recordset?

Immediate Window during Break Mode:
? me.fsubsrNavSHLBHL("NavSH_QQ")
NESE ' this is the correct value for the current recordsource

Set a breakpoint right after the line:
fsubsrNavSHLBHL.Form.RecordSource = "Select * from vsrNavigatorSHLBHL where Well_ID =" & txtNavWellID.Value

Immediate Window:
? me.fsubsrNavSHLBHL.Form.RecordSource
Select * from vsrNavigatorSHLBHL where Well_ID =91229

Does A Filtered Mdb Recordset Still Bring Down The Whole Recordset?

Apr 27, 2007

Hi guys, I'm a bit confused: I know that opening a bound form will bring down the whole recordset. But if I create a parametered query as the recordsource, will it still bring down the whole recordset first and only afterwards cut down to the records matching the parameters?

Example: I have a clients table with 5000 clients on a backend mdb, and my client lookup form in my frontend mdb. If I open the form looking for just client "Jim Jones" (via the parameter query), will Access bring down all 5000 clients from the backend to my frontend first, and only then seek out "Jim Jones" before discarding the rest of the recordset?

For if this is true then this whole Access business is rather unsuited for networks, even a small one. I hope you guys prove me wrong.

Default Combo Box Based On Default Table Value

Feb 13, 2006

Hi Everyone,

I hope someone can help.

I have a form with a combo boxes and a table with relevant list and additional field, fldDefaultDrive (Yes/No Field).

Currently in order to set the default value, I have used the following code for each default;

Private Sub Form_Load()
Forms!frmMediaLabeller!CboDriveName.DefaultValue = """D"""

End Sub

However, I want users to be able to go into the table and change the default value if thier CD player default Drive is anything but D: Drive. I have tried to replace the D above with an SQL statement but with no success.

Private Sub Form_Load()

Dim Drivename As String

Drivename = SELECT tblMediaDrive.fldDrivename FROM tblMediaDrive WHERE (((tblMediaDrive.fldDefaultDrive)=-1));

Forms!frmMediaLabeller!CboDriveName.DefaultValue = """Drivename"""

End Sub

This is definetly not working, can anybody help, I have a feeling it is syntax but not sure where? :confused:

Create A Recordset From A Recordset

Aug 17, 2007

from a table with fields userID and Date (in which any userID has multiple records with different Date values, and other fields) i have built a select query based on Date = one specific value. can anyone give an explanation (for beginners), through a sample code, that expands the query recordset so that the new recordset includes all records per userID that qualified in the prior recordset? below is an example. thank you!

Table with records:
userID / Date
u1 / d1
u1 / d2
u2 / d1
u2 / d2
u3 / d2
...
1st Select Query (where Date = d1):
u1 / d1
u2 / d1

Desired 2nd Query based off 1st Query (where ?):
u1 / d1
u1 / d2
u2 / d1
u2 / d2

Updating One Recordset Using Another Recordset?

Jan 21, 2015

I have two tables that have the exact same fields. In table1 I have records that need to be UPDATED into table2. I tried an Update query and out of 600 records only half of those got updated. In my update query I joined tbl1 and tbl2 by Location (LOC) I checked for Nulls, Blanks, spaces, you name it. I can't figure why they all didn't get updated. I created a SQL query and go the exact same results. Ideally, I would like to create something in VBA to do this. I do not have any forms linked to these tables. In all I have about 600 records and 15 different fields that need to be updated. My example is only for one field.

sql example below. Which is the Access Sql in the Query

sql = "UPDATE tbl2 INNER JOIN tbl1 ON tbl2.LOC = tbl2.LOC" & _
"SET tbl2.Name = tbl1!Name" & _
"WHERE (((tbl2.Name) Is Null));"

Example.

Table1
Field1.Names = John

Table2
Field1.Names = "Need to UPDATE the name 'John' here"

I tried the Recordset .EDIT but I couldn't get it to work using two tables.

Using DAO For Form Navigation

Sep 5, 2006

Hi guys, I am new here in this Forum and in Access as well. I am wanting to use recordset on a form and two buttons that I want to program manually for navigation of Records. How can it me made possible keeping my code professional. I have tried to declare the Recordset as Public and it works but I have error if I use .movenext when the recordset moves to last one. Is this right approach to use recordsets as Public.

TO avoid this If I use While .eof My purpose does not get solve because I wanna navigate with clicks but if I use 'IF recordset.eof Then' , strangely enough my record count gives me the value 1. SO I am kind of stuck. Please Advice me that is this a good approach to use this programming way to navigate through recordset OR it is better to stick with standard given controls like subforms etc. I just find those controls limited or cumbersome.

Form Navigation

Nov 19, 2006

I have discovered that I am a member of this forum. My last question is years ago. I haven't made much progress. However, I am using a msaccess db for subscription management of a magazine.
I have designed the db from scratch and it does its job to some degree. It is very unelegant, as I have to do much myself that I wish the db would do for me.

I have created a form for the table 'invoices'. I would like to be able to double click on the 'customer id' belonging to a certain invoice, with the result that the form belonging to the table 'subscribers' opens at that same subscriber the customer id belongs to.

I have created a macro that opens the form 'subscribers', but how do I tell it to open that certain subscriber.

I have taught myself access, and always found in the helpfile an answer which led further. Not in this case. I imagine this is a very simple, often used procedure.

I have a similar issue when writing invoices. On the form 'subscribers' there is a button that opens another form 'new invoice'. I would like it to display automatically the subscriber from where I opened the form 'new invoice'. At the moment I have to enter the user id again manually.

Do you know what I mean? Is there an easy answer to this question. Where could I find information about this kind of linking forms together?

Navigation Buttons

May 16, 2005

First time user - so please forgive if this is already out there.

I want to hide the navigation buttons on a form and create a custom set of controls. I can create the buttons themselves but am having trouble with the "N of X", where:

X is the total number of records in the query, and
N is the current record showing in the form.

I can get X but how would I capture and display "N".

Any help would be appreciated.

Navigation Buttons

Sep 27, 2005

I searched the forum on custom navigation buttons and found great posts about it. I downloaded 3 samples and the one that fit what I needed was SJ McAbney's dbNavSubform.zip. sfrmNavigation (http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=87791) I imported sfrmNavigation per SJ McAbney's on the post into my database.

I didn't want to start a new thread so I posted on the thread: http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=88880
But I didn't get any responses.. I don't know if it's been overlooked.

I am encountering problems when I use dbNavSubForm in my database.

1. I made 2 copies of sfrmNavigation and I am using it on 2 of my forms.
On the main form that I am using it when I first open the database it shows record 1 of 1 when really there is more than 1 record. When I click on the next button it then goes to say 2 of 15.
How can I fix this so that when I open the database it will say 1 of 15 and not 1 of 1?

2. I have a Main form ex: frmMain and a subform on frmMain. I added the the subform (dbNavSubForm) onto my subform. Make sense? Here the navigation buttons do not work. When I try to add a new record it tells me "The object frmTOItems isn't open" When I try to click on the next or previous it tells me "Object variable or With block variable not set. How can I fix this?

I have captured a picture of my form so that you can see what I mean.

Thanks in advance
