Error '2118' You Must Save The Current Field Before You Run The 'Requery' Action

Oct 11, 2007

I have a Contacts form which has a Calls sub-form which itself has a Subjects sub-form. From the Contacts form the user can click a button which writes a pro-forma letter from a selection. The application then updates the Call & allows the user to select the Subject(s) from the Subjects available (drop-down menu). If the user wants to write a second letter immediately, I get the above message. If they do anything else first, they are OK.
I have tried refreshing the Contacts form & each of the others at various points in the process, explictly saving the record (caused another error) etc. without success.
Can you help?

General :: Bound Form - Error No Current Record On Save

May 10, 2014

I have been working on a bound form that I can't seem to get working.

It records deliveries and what I am trying to achieve is after the form has been filled in the user will click a save button where the record will be added to the table and a record automatically printed via a report and emailed to the shop manager, but i keep getting the error "No Current record" no matter what way I try to do it, I have tried using to run the report. Is the best way for me to accomplish this o change it to an unbound for and run an insert query on click?

I have attached a copy of what I have been working on : DatabaseDelivery.accdb

Reports :: Save Report As PDF - Output To Action Cancelled With Access VB Macro

Jan 12, 2015

One of the users of my application, reports an error when saving a report to pdf by VBA code. She’s using Access 2013, on Windows 8.1.

The error is “error 2501 output to action was cancelled with access vb macro”

The VBA code is

StrReport = “RepInvoice”
StrDocumentName = “C:UsersMaryDocumentsAccessInvoice.pdf”
DoCmd.OpenReport StrReport, acViewPreview
DoCmd.OutputTo acOutputReport, StrReport, "PDFFormat(*.pdf)", StrDocumentName, False
DoCmd.Close acReport, StrReport, acSaveNo

This error occurs at the OutputTo line. This code is part of an user form with a button “save as PDF”.
When this code is run, the report is visible as an example (as meant to be) on the screen. The code stops at the OutputTo line.

When I use
DoCmd.OutputTo acOutputReport, StrReport, acFormatPDF, StrDocumentName,, False
the problem still exists.

I tried to save the report manually by Preview > Export > PDF. The preview is OK, saving as PDF results in the same error 2501. This may lead to the conclusion that this problem is not caused by the VBA code.

I verified whether user write rights are OK, and whether a default printer is available. Both are OK. The report consists of 1 page.
When this very same application is used with Access 2010, everything functions as expected.

Not In List, Requery, Save Variable

Dec 13, 2004

Hi. I just ran across this forum. It looks like I could learn alot here.

I have been searching for some code, and have found two of the three items that I need to make this work. To make this simple, I have two forms and two tables. One form for Contacts (with addresses) and one form that has the Contacts information together with a list of their responsibilities. Say I have the Responsibilities form open, and type in a contact name in an unbound combo box. I believe this was the case, as the unbound combo box was being used to update the contact information down below on the form. I'd like to invoke an event procedure if the contact isn't in the list. I've found various vbscript to handle this in the "not in list" property. If they are not in the list, I'd like it to save the name typed in, open the Contacts form to add the new contact and their information. This I have done. When I close that form, I'd like the procedure to go back to the original Responsibilities form, requery the table (or is it really requery the combo box?), insert the new name into the combo box, and update what contact information resides on the Responsibilities form.

I've seen info on the requery portion, as I've run into the same problem of the name not being in the combo box, unless I close the Responsibilities form and then open it back up.

But I haven't seen an example where everything is put together with saving the contact name (as a variable???) and then putting the contact name in the Contacts form and then back in the combo box on the Responsibilities form.

If someone has an example, or could steer me in the right direction, I'd sure appreciate it. I understand some of this stuff, but don't really have the vbscript understanding. But I'm good at using examples with prewritten code and manipulating to work with my forms and field names.

Thanks in advance for your advise.

Moving To Current Record After A Requery

May 4, 2006

I have a subform where the user enters the number of training days on a quotation. After the record is updated I do a requery on a text boxt on the main form that shows the total number of training days ordered for that particular customer.

The problem is the focus then resorts to somewhere else on the main form but I want it to return to the same record on the subform. I have managed to get it to go to the first record in the subform but obvisouly from users perception that is not god enough.

I have got the following code in the sub form's after update event but nothing seems to work although I do not get any errors.

Private Sub Form_AfterUpdate()
If Me.TrgType = 1 Then

Dim rs As DAO.Recordset
Dim varBookmark As Variant
Set rs = Me.RecordsetClone
rs.FindFirst ("QuoteItemID = " & Me.QuoteItemID)
varBookmark = rs.Bookmark
Forms!frmCustomer!txtUnitsOrdered.Requery
Forms!frmCustomer.Refresh
Me.Bookmark = varBookmark
Me.QuotedPrice.SetFocus
rs.Close
Set rs = Nothing

End If

Any assistance would be most appreciated :)

And yes Ghudson I have done a search - LOL :p

Prevent Form From Displaying New Record And Save It When Form Requery Or Close

Aug 26, 2014

I have a split form that's like a list of pending tasks. The data source is a linked SharePoint 2013 list where users submit requests. The user takes the information from each record and performs an action. When it is done, the user presses a button and the task status changes from "Pending" to "Processed". The form record source is based on a query that finds only records with a status of "Pending" so when the user changes the status of the task, it is removed from the list. It works fine except when there is only one task left in the work list. If the user processes the last task, the form refreshes and it goes to a new empty record and I get an error message that says I must enter a value into one of the required fields. I tried making the field non-required but it just creates an empty record in the table.

Cancel Triggers Error In Requery

Feb 2, 2006

I have a main form + subform bound by a RecordSource/Requery everytime something changes in the mainform.

In my subform I've got a save button to save/update the information in my subform.

As I wanted to avoid the ACCESS default behavior that updates/add records each time you do some action, I decided, as advised in some of the threads, to add "Cancel = True" in the "BeforeUpdate" event on my subform each time the Save button was not pressed.

Unfortunately, this causes a side-effect when I need to update the RecordSource of the subform because the "BeforeUpdate" event is activated, the "Cancel = True" is triggered (because I didn't press the Save button) and then I end up with this error:

Run-time error '2107' The value you entered doesn't meet the validation rule defined for the field or control

Before I implemented the "Cancel true", my ResordSource statement was working.

Does the "Cancel true" has some impact on something else ?? Any ideas ??

Cheers.

Fab.

so the data that transferred to form 1 is wrong (next record)

The question is : how to save current record in form 2 before enter and send the data to form 1

Requery Error When Entering Design View For A Form

Jun 5, 2014

I am modifying the Students template for a student & alumni administration database for our non-profit Food Service Training Academy.

After making some changes recently, whenever I select Design View on a specific form (Student Details), a window pops up stating "The command or action 'Requery' isn't available now. The window further states that:

You may be in a read-only database or an unconverted database from an earlier version of the databaseThe type of object the action applies to isn't currently selected or isn't in the active view. And finally "Use only those commands and macro actions that are currently available for this database."

After exiting this window, a Macro Single Step window opens with the following info:

Macro Name: Student List : txtOpen : Onclick : Embedded MacroCondition: (blank)Action Name: RequeryArguments: (blank)Error Number: 2046

This form is usually opened via an "Open" button in a list of students form called Student List. It has 5 tabs on it, the last I created & copied 2 queries to it. The form opens in Form view OK and I can switch to Layout view OK. Once in Design view I seem to be able to do go back and forth OK, although often going back into Design view sometimes only the name of the sub-form is displayed and the whole header, detail, grid, and controls etc. do not show.

Further, you can open the Student Details form directly, but now it opens as a datasheet instead of a form. Otherwise, the normal use of the forms, from a user perspective, does not seem to be affected.

This may have begun after I opened the database in Access 2007. I have done all the development in Access 2010.

Modules & VBA :: Referencing Parent Form On Requery - Error 2450

Apr 3, 2014

In short, here is what I am trying to accomplish:

1. I have a two-tier, tabbed Navigation form (Menu-Main).

2. One of the second-tier tabs opens a form (VendorMain) which displays a Datasheet based on [Query.Vendor_Query]

3. VendorMain contains a Command Button (EditButton), which calls a subform (VendorForm) used for editing.

4. Upon saving the edits, VendorForm's OnClose event is supposed to Requery the datasheet on VendorMain, so the edits are reflected when the user returns.

I have tried over a dozen different permutations of the following, but nothing seems to work:

Me!Parent.Requery
Forms!VendorMain.Requery
Forms![Vendor_Query].Requery
Forms!Main-Menu!VendorMain.Requery
Etc...

VendorForm opens, edits, saves and closes perfectly. However, I consistently get the following error and the parent form is not requeried:

Runtime Error 2450 - Cannot find the referenced form VendorMain

Code available upon request.

Forms :: Error (Method Or Data Member Not Found) On Requery

Sep 19, 2014

I have a form (frmTimecardsDataEntry3*) that needs to requery combo boxes to narrow down the selections offered in the dropdown of each combo box.

It is a data entry form. I.e. Dataentry is set to yes.

The ClientName combo box has an after update event which requeries the matter combo box, so that the MatterName combo box dropdown only shows the matters relating to that client. This works just fine.

The MatterName combo box has an after update event which requeries the Rate combo box so that in the Rate combo box dropdown only the hourly charge rates relating to that matter are shown. That works too. So far so good.

I then tried adding another after update event to the MatterName combo box, so that another combo box, Application, was requeried too, so with the Private Sub it looked like:

Rate.Requery
Application.Requery

But this resulted in the error in the title to this post and the debugger highlighted in red the word Requery in the phrase Application.Requery.

I thought maybe Access does not allow two requeries resulting from one after update event, so instead I took Application.Requery out and placed it as an after update event in another combo box which did not have any other after update events to run.

However, this resulted in the same error. So the error appears to have something to do with trying to requery the Application combo box but I cannot see what is causing the error.

The Application combo box SQL is:

SELECT Applications.ApplicationID, [ApplicationDate] & " " & [ApplicationName] AS ApplicationDisplay, Applications.ApplicationDate, Applications.ApplicationName, Applications.MatterName
FROM Applications
WHERE (((Applications.MatterName)=[Forms]![frmTimecardsDataEntry3*]![MatterName]))
ORDER BY Applications.ApplicationDate, Applications.ApplicationName;

This is the same arrangement of SQL that I am using on the other requeried combo boxes that work. When I take the WHERE statement out of the Application SQL and run it the query returns all of the applications.

I am not sure what the error code is trying to tell me about the attempt to requery the Application combo box.

I have a yes/no box in the form and when the firm is first opened it has a small square dot in it, but as soon as any data is entered in the form the dot clears and leaves the usual empty tick box that you would expect to see.

Also, another possible symptom is that I had another version of this form previously working quite well except that when I did several data entries all at once, so I had several forms filled in with different data (before refreshing and thus entering the data in the table), when I scrolled between the forms I kept losing the MatterName data when I scrolled back, and then when I re-entered the ClientName data the correct MatterName data returned without me having to use the dropdown to select it.

I have had an earlier simpler version of this form working for some time, with ClientName requerying MatterName and MatterName requerying Rate, and I am using the same SQL structures in the new form but getting the error in the title to this post and the other isues just described.

Why Can't I Save Changes After An Error?

Jul 18, 2006

I previously posted this in one of the other forums, but now believe this to be of a more general nature, and am still without a satisfactory explanation or any workaround:

I'm working on a new database with Access 2003, using the 2002-2003 file format. While debugging a VBA code module in the VB editor, whenever I get a runtime error something strange happens - I stop the debugger, correct the code and attempt to save my changes, and Access displays the message "Microsoft Office Access can't save design changes or save to a new database object because another user has the file open. To save your design changes or to save to a new object, you must have exclusive access to the file." It then persists in denying me the ability to save ANYTHING until I close the VB editor, close the Access application, and then start over again. In fact, there is no other user - all other machines on the network are turned off, and no other instances of Access or the VB editor are open.

Needless to say, this is slowing my development efforts to a crawl, and I'm totally stumped by it - I never remember running into this problem in years of working with Access 97 (where I can hit errors, stop execution, make any needed corrections to code or other objects, and re-run the application, without having to exit). I'm running this on a P4 3.4 GHz box with 1 GB of RAM. Going into Tools, Options, Advanced and switching the "Default open mode" between Shared and Exclusive makes no difference.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Have tried compact/repair, removing the index on the field, deleting and recreating the field. Nothing works. Help!
