Attempting to change a queries calculated field properties I got the message
The Microsoft Jet Database engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time
Clever since I'm the only user on a stand alone PC.:confused:
I closed the database and tried again but with no joy.
Anybody know what the cause/solution is.

I'm not sure if this is a Table question or a Form question...
After a user enters data into all the fields on my form (ticket #, date, time, etc) and submits that form, I want to prevent them from going back to that record (or any record, for that matter) and make a change to it. Currently, they can do a "Find" on a specific ticket # while in the form and make any kind of change they wanted. ie: change the time they reported to a work site...
Is there an easy way to prevent this from happening?

so i'm using MS Access security features, .mdw file and all that jazz. i'd like to market my program, but i don't want to have to add/delete users and change/add/delete permissions for every new/existing user. is there any way around this via an unbound form in vba, ie, something like "New User Name: _______" "New User Password: _______" "New User Permissions Group: (dropdown)"? is this possible, or MUST you go through the security page?

I have an access database and I plan on splitting it so the FE will be on each users workstation and the backend will be in a folder on the server. But is there anything else I need to do to allow for the possibility of multiple users using the database and changing info at the same time?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have created a profiling form for my school. Each boy can access his form using his admission number ( Adno) which is the primary key. On the form are lots of sub forms - for things like favourite authors, clubs, teams played in etc - but these don't have a primary key ( as they are automatically linked to the Adno via the main form ). Unfortunately when several boys are filling in their own forms at the same time I keep getting error messages, one says that the data can't be updated and another says that there is a primary key problem.

I am currently compiling an Access DB to manage my work in progress, Payments due etc.
The DB is starting to work well and have requests from fellow contractors to purchase a copy (there are over 400 subcontractors in the group), with this in mind I have decided that when I complete the DB I will take it to a proffessional programmer and have it converted to a fully standalone programm.
My question: Is there a programm format that is preferable or would C# be the best option or is there a product out there that I could purchase and use.

i have an other table issue.
I have some required fields.
When a user fills in a form, i and forgets a required field, an error pops up. But i want to change what the error says. I tried getting it by using validationrules. but i can't reach it. The access message overrules mine.
I currently use the Lotus package for word processing, spreadsheets etc so I do not have any of the microsoft office programs installed on my computer. Can I load just Microsoft Access as a standalone program or do i need to load the full office suite?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Main form (MainForm) with two subforms (SFormA, SFormB). These SForms are connected to the MainForm by a control (controlA) and connected to each other by a control (controlB) via an unbound control in the main form, in order to change data in SFormB according to selected record in SFormA. SFormB has an on current event procedure determined to show different things depending on the value of a bound control that changes every time I select a different record in SFormA. Everything works fine when Mainform and SForms first load.
But, when I select a record on SFormA I get a runtime error and everything stops, application closes and reopens, creating a safety copy. It seems to me that the on current procedure on SFormB causes this problem, because if I delete it no error appears (SFormB not showing what I want though). Funny thing is I have another database, same design, same structure, same procedures, (different objects and names of course) and it works perfectly alright. I even recreated the whole database still the same error.

Is there anyway to make the front end of my database standalone? For example, I would like to people to run it who don't have Access installed, what ways are there around this?
I just have a question, is there anyway to create a standalone ms access 2003 file. I want to be able to create a ms access db that has forms and certain reports.
I have a client who needs this ms access file to distributable to his clients (who can use it without having ms access file). Also he him self can make changes, to the forms, etc. Without any programming knowledge, change the look of the forms, add queries, etc. And be able to send the updated version of the ms access file to his cleint.
Can this be done? I have suggested using a vb frontend & and ms access as a backend, but he would have to pay someone to make changes, add reports, etc. And he wouldn't be able to do it him self becuase of lack of programming knowledge, he only has medium knowledgable of Ms Access.
So can this be done, is there a sdk i can use?

So I have finished a database and split it which is great. Only issue now is how do I turn the front end into an executable so no access to any parts of the access program or system can happen? I have done this before in a very old version of access but how to do it in Access 2013.

I want to convert this field to numerical only and make a new field to put the textual data in.
However converting the field will delete the textual data. What is the easiest way to convert the field but save the textual data AND append the textual data to the SAME record that they were in originally in the new field?
I have a table and a simple query that pulls results from the table. Nothing too crazy. But, if I were to go in and change some of the data/values in the query results it will change the respective data in the table. I know that this cannot be right. What do I have to do to either prevent the ability to change query results and/or prevent any changes in the query from altering the original data in the table.

However, I want to share a version of this database with a different start up form, some restricted forms etc. If I make a copy of the accdb it creates and make changes to that, it still synchronises those changes and they affect my own version.
What is the correct way to create a different database version from my accdw?
All I want to do is take the accdb it creates, change the startup form and give it to somebody to use.
I have an Access 2007 database which has a form on which is a button to dial the currently selected phone number. All works fine. My intention is to send out partial databases to people not having access installed and they will use the access runtime module.
When the same database is run using the runtime it does not dial and does not give an error message. It just stays the same as though I didn't press the dial button.
i have a form with two cascading combo's that work when the form is opened as a single form however when i place the form on Page 3 of a TabCtl it fails to cascade the correct values.

i have a database with one table that has many different attributes and almost 3000 records. this is all i have done, i have simply been loading in all of the data to the table, now that that is done i need to allow users to extract the data.
so, what is the best way to build a front end that allows the user to easily extract data from the database? ideally, i would like to have some sort of front end that would have a text input window where they could search for records matching attributes in the table that match or are close to the text they type in, with some additional options for honing down the search terms with dropdown menus, radio buttons, etc.
the problem is i really havent a clue on how to do that stuff. can anyone just give some general, beginner type steps for things i should be doing to create that "front end" i am visualizing. THANKS!
I am creating an Action Item Database that will be located on a Sharepoint portal so multiple users can access and I'd like each user to have a login/ password to
1) keep unauthorized users out of the database and
2) limit what users can see.
This login/ security should ideally work so that user "Bob Smith" logs in with his assigned login/ password and he will only view/edit/ run reports for those Action Items that he has generated (field named "GeneratedBy") or have been assigned to complete ("ResponsibleLead") which are both fields in table "tbl_ActionItems". I can not tie the security levels to a users network login; this has to be security within the database. I don't necessarily need specific code at this point so much as I need a logical starting point for setting this up.
We are using acces to track and tag all incoming jobs. Since can be used by multiple users I would like a dialog box that would come up at open and tell me the file is currently being used by another user. Excel has that feature. Otherwise we keep using duplicate job numbers. Any help is appreciated.
