Error 3085 Using .column(1) In A Combobox's Query

Sep 10, 2005

Hi all,

I have a combobox on a form which retreives its data using an SQL statement (I used the query builder). In one of the columns shown in this combobox I filter the data by refering to a another combox on the same form.

the syntax is: >=forms!frmCursusGegevens!DatumCursusID.column(1)

Running the form and accessing the combobox issues error 3085, stating that a function is used that is unknown.
Removing the '.column(1)' part solves the problem, but ofcourse this is not what I want. It confirms though that the problem is with this .colomn(1) reference.

I'm sure the syntax is correct, because in a modules' direct window I'm capable to retreive the data by typing:

?forms!frmCursusGegevens!DatumCursusID.column(1)

I've used the same procedure in many MS access projects using older versions of Access. In the current version 2003 it gives this problem...

Who can assist me here?

Thanks and regards!

Olaf

Error 3085 Undefined Function Nz In Expression - Its Not The References

Apr 2, 2008

I have someone using my database as an mde, using the 2003 runtime, on a computer that has XP with Office 2007 (including Access 2007). Eveything works fine, except they get error 3085 on a line of code that is running an Insert SQL statement.

What is weird is that the SQL statement does not include the nz function. It does include a simple UDF for rounding, but that UDF doesn't return an error.

I also have code that checks the references on startup, and none of them are coming up as missing or broken. I have also double checked each reference and they have the exact same version number of every reference (dao360.dll, mscomctl.ocx, etc.). So if it is a "diambiguation" issue, I don't know how to fix it, or even identify it.

The code runs on several other computers with various combinations of XP, Vista, Office 2003, and Office 2007 with no problems.

I am stumped. What else could cause this error? Even if you don't really know, but you have a vague idea, please post it because I can't even think of anything else to investigate at this point.:confused:

Forms :: Getting Data From Query - Error 0 On Combobox

Apr 16, 2014

I have a small form with a combobox that gets its data from a query.

I added code to this database to forward to me info about forms and controls in case they generate errors. Occasionally I get an "error = 0" on this combobox.

Since there are no events attached to this combobox then what could be causing this error?

Jan 18, 2014

I am trying to design an unbound combobox whose rowsource can be dynamically set based on a union query in order to search 1000's of names returning each name that contains a user defined string. The search does not start until the user defined string reaches 3 characters in length.

There are more details in the attachment but basically the vba code I used all saves OK in the vba editor but I get a runtime error 13 type mismatch when the code attempts to utilise the query to populate the rowsource of the combobox.

Modules & VBA :: Filter Subform By Nth Column In Combobox?

Aug 5, 2015

I am currently having trouble filtering my subform by a different column than the bound column set in properties.

the comobobox shows the ID for the last email sent, with the combobox drop down showing the name and date of email when dropped down. I have tried 2 things and neither work...

1) Calling the filter on the combo-box column itself:

Code:

Dim myDate as string
myDate = [Forms]![BenSearchForm]![BenSearchSub]![LastEmail].[Column(5)]
DateFilt = " AND" & myDate & " BETWEEN " & "Nz([forms]![BenSearchForm].[Date3],#1/1/1900#) AND Nz([forms]![BenSearchForm].[Date4],#31/12/2100#)"

I have used similar code on another form, but I can't get the myDate variable to get to value of the 6th column in the dropdown (Date Of Email). an Easier way to look at this would be:

Code:
DateFilt = " AND [Forms]![BenSearchForm]![BenSearchSub]![LastEmail].[Column(5)]" & " BETWEEN " & "Nz([forms]![BenSearchForm].[Date3],#1/1/1900#) AND Nz([forms]![BenSearchForm].[Date4],#31/12/2100#)"

2) Inside the subform, I have set up a seperate field that reads the result of the dropdown box column(5) and shows it. For example the Email with ID 22 has a date of 4/8/15, so any record with last sent email being 22 has a record that says 4/8/15. I am trying to use this value to filter between, but am unable of passing the value to my filter.

The textbox is called "Email Date" and the Control source is "=[Forms]![BenSearchForm]![BenSearchSub]![LastEmail].[Column](5)"

It shows the correct data, but does not allow me to filter by this field, when the apply filter button is pressed it asks me for the parameter value of the LastEmail Field.

Code:
DateFilt = " AND" & " [EmailDate] BETWEEN " & "Nz([forms]![BenSearchForm].[Date3],#1/1/1900#) AND Nz([forms]![BenSearchForm].[Date4],#31/12/2100#)"

I use a number of set variables for my filters, so my filter ends up looking like

Code:
.Filter = IDFilt + EmailFilt+ DateFilt

where all but IDFilt begin with AND. I use this on a number of other forms so I am sure this is not the issue!

General :: Unique Values For Two Column Combobox

Jul 18, 2013

Here's my dilemma: I have a table that keeps track of job postings and how many people applied for each posting. So, for instance, I can have 20 people apply for a job posting say....on July 18. On another column I have the shift name for that posting such as DAY Shift. So, I have 20 people that have applied for the Day Shift on July 18.

What I'd like my combobox to show me in just one instance of July 18 in column 1 and one instance of Day Shift in column two. I have tried using the wizard and then going to the properties of the combobox and attempted to edit the SQL statement to use the DISTINCT value to no avail.

What I want to do is add columns to the table such as organization, purpose, etc. then have them in the form as textboxes that update as soon as the second combo box is selected. Is this possible with just one table or do I need to go a different route?

Forms :: Single Column Combobox To List Values From Multiple Fields

Apr 8, 2013

I have a data base with names, email IDs, phone numbers of 5 types(example quality, security, IT,finance etc) of person from ten different project teams. I created a basic form for the end user to enter values and created fields for each of the person's name, email ID etc based on the personal type( liek quality, IT, finance etc) on each team. The background table contains records of almost 200 people now.

All of these people will be trained for one task and some will be trained for multiple tasks. I know how to make the combo box allow multiple values/selections but, i cannot list out all 200 personal names in the combobox's rowsource/value list. Is it possible to combine all different name fields and list out all personal(of one team), so that the end user can just select multiple names for that team who have been trained and so on. i need to set the rowsource of the combobox to the values of all personal from one team so the team leader can just go select who has been trained and who has not.

Forms :: Adding Value Of Combobox To Hidden Column When User Enters A New Record

Aug 14, 2013

I'm very new to access so I'm not sure about the correct way to go about this. I have a table with a 'category' column, a form which hides the category column, and a combobox to filter the category, let's say R, C, and F.

What I want accomplish is to have the value of the comobox applied to the hidden 'category' column when a user enters a new record into the form.

Is there I way I can get an instance to the record as it's being entered and modify the data using VB? Or would I have to write a sort of pop() function and have it run afterInsert and then modify it that way? Can I even alter the table using VB like this?

Forms :: Combobox With Dates - Runtime Error 3464

Mar 15, 2015

Run into a bit of an issue with a combo box that has dates. When I click on a date I receive:

Run-time error '3464': 'Data type mismatch in criteria expression'

Am I receiving this because I have declared it a string when I should declare it something else?

My other question for whenever I get the first part fixed. Is there a way that instead of having all the possible dates to select from, that I could simply have three options available: Within a year, More than a year, and no date. (Once I click on one of those three options, I will filter records that have a date within the past year, over a year, or no date at all. How would I be able to achieve this?

It works just fine. However, when a user selects both, say, Industry and Education, the IndustryClassification combobox will not appear. What code I can use to ensure the IndustryClassification box will appear regardless if another box is checked in addition to Industry? I am wondering if it has to do with the Column attribute.

"Key Column Information Is Insufficient..." Error Even With A PK

Aug 1, 2007

I am using an .adp Access file and I am having trouble editing records through it. My form displays the contains of a table one record at a time. When I try to edit one of the fields of the record, I get the following error after selecting Records>>Refresh or when I try to navigate to the next record:

Key column information is insufficient or incorrect. Too many rows were affected by update.

Despite this error message, the modification is written to the database (I checked with SQL server management studio).

If again try to refresh or navigate away from that record--even if I have not made any additional edits--I get an additional error before the first one:

This record has been changed by another user since you started editing it. If you save the record, you will overwrite the changes the other user made....(some boring junk)

Once these errors have started, they continue whenever I try to navigate to the next record even though change has already been written to the database. I end up stuck on that record until I restart the app.

How do I get rid of these error messages?

I have read online about not having a primary key on your table will cause this error, but I already have already added a primary key to the table.

If it matters, the field I am attempting to edit is not a part of the primary key.

If it matters, when I check the properties of the form, I see:
Record Source is set to the table's name,
there is a "Filter" applied,
there is a "Order By",
the "Recordset Type" is set to "Updatable Snapshot",
"Server Filter By Form" is set to No, and
"Allow Filters", "Allow Edits", "Allow Deletions", and "Allow Additions" are all Yes.

Details:
OS: MS XP Version 2002, 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600
Access: Access 2003 (11.6566.8122) SP2
Database: Microsoft SQL Server 2005

Combobox Within A Query

Nov 24, 2005

I'm not entirely sure if this is possible, however I'm pretty sure I have seen it done in the past. But I've been racking my brains and scouring google for the solution with no luck what-so-ever.

What I'm trying to do is display a query, where one of the fields will have a drop down box that you can select from multiple values. I dont want to give away much information about the database structure (sensitive data, and all that fun stuff I'm sure most of you are familiar with). So I'm going to make up a hypothetical situation here.

Table: Person
Fields: pID, pFName, pLName, sID

Table: Status
Fields: sID, sDescription

Here is the basic query:

Select pID, pFName, pLName, sDescription
FROM Person, Status
WHERE Person.sID = Status.sID;

Then when the query is displayed, I'd like the status description to be capable of dropping down a list of the other possible selections. Now I know this wont work on a standard query. So what I did was create the query, then a form that displays in a query view. I have the one field as a combo box instead of a text box. However I'm just having trouble linking it up, it just shows what the current value is but not the other possible options.

If anyone could point me in the right direction, I would surely appreciate it.

Thanks
