Error / There Isn't Enough Free Memory To Update The Display
Mar 13, 2010
My problem: There isn't enough free memory to update the display.
I looked all over the internet about this error but without any success.
Facts are:
1. I keep getting this error anytime I try to Print or Print Preview or export to PDF an Access Report (same error for printing Forms and maybe other objects).
2. I received this error when using Office 2007 with the same mdb and also after upgrading to Office 2010.
3. The same mdb on any other computer works perfectly. I can do Print, Print Preview or whatever I want. This seems to be related to this laptop I am using.
4. Resources are not a problem on this laptop: 3Gb RAM, Paging: 1Gb on sys drive C and 2Gb on D. The other machines have less.
I am regularly getting the error "There is not enough free memory to update your display, close unneeded programs and try again"
Access 2013 on a windows 7 machine with 4 processors and 24GB total RAM.
Today I have 14 GB free memory (unbelievable! my first laptop had 136 MB total memory!) when I got this error (Access using 38MB) which makes me believe its not a system memory issue but to do with how much (or quickly) memory is allocated to Access.
Im building a new database using Access 2003 SP2 on windows XP SP2 with 1 GB RAM.
When i try to execute the following line of VBA code I get an "out of memory" error:
Form_Confirmation.txtDept = cboDept.Text
Before this line of code I don't query any data or open any DAO connections, Im only checking the entered values in various text boxes and combo boxes on a form. I have also tried rebooting my computer and it still gets stuck at the same line.
What i basically want to do is just move data entered into text boxes on a shipping order form i created and present that data on another form to confirm the entered data. The error occurs when i try to move data from one form to another. The database is still only 1MB with only 5 tables, each with only a few records in them just for testing.
Do i need to install a service pack or download something to fix this error?
I have a multi-user MS Access97 database application. It is causing one of the users (and I have only once had the error message myself) the following error message:
"There isn't enough free memory to update the display. Close unneeded programs and try again."
This error message occurs when the user is doing data entry via the forms and navigating between forms in the database. The form, on which the error occurs becomes oversized and does not display all the information. The user is forced to shut down the database, re-open it, and then it works fine....but eventually the error re-occurs.
I found Microsoft's article 236977, but it applies to working with Forms in Access 2000. This problem is happening in Access 97, and none of the causes listed in the article apply.
Has anyone every come across this....and do you know of a solution?
In the database that I use at work sometimes when we OPEN it we get an immediate error saying out of memory, therefore we close it and reopen and all is good.
This is a problem when the average user logs on as they don't close it, they just continue on and then start experiencing issues.
I thought that the memory was supposed to clear when you close the database.
We run the debugger and no errors are ever found, we also run the compact and repair.
This can happen 1 in 10 or maybe 20 times when we open the database.
I am getting an error message when printing a 2 part report. It does not appear until I have already printed the first part and I am ready to print the second. I have 6 users and all seem to experience intermittently with the exception of 1 who it is constant. The message is as follows;
"There isn't enough memory to update the display. Close unneeded programs and try again."I have tried deleting the registry "KEY_ CURRENT_ USER SoftwareMicrosoftVBA" with no avail and have installed all available updates from MS.

I have started my own MS Access Hints and Tips Club (http://msaccesshintsandtips.ning.com/profiles/blog/show?id=948619%3ABlogPost%3A301) and in an effort to attract new members I am offering a free calendar form.
I haven't seen any other Calendar form (DEMO HERE) (http://www.viddler.com/TonyHine/videos/35/fullscreen)with the advanced features that my calendar form offers, so I hope it's unique. It also benefits from the fact that it is very simple to set up and use on your own form. All you have to do is add two controls a command button to call the calendar form, and a text box to receive date.
you use a simple naming convention: Command button named: "btnDOB" Text box named similarly: "txtDOB"
The "DOB" portion can be any text you like as long as both buttons have the same text, >>> "DOB" <<< Any way Have a look at the DEMO at least! (http://www.viddler.com/TonyHine/videos/35/fullscreen)
Im after some free images for buttons, for my stock control database system. Can anyone recommend me some ood site to look at? Ive searched but have been unable to find anything really suitable.
I am trying to sort data in a free from date filed without success. For example I have 1999-present, Jul 14, 2003-Jun 2004, then 2004-ongoing... Is it possible to sort them? Thank you very much. Debbie
Table ( ID, name, surname , etc etc) Form - I use this form to add new records to my table.
On this Form I should be able to see the ID number ( from next blank record)
So let say I have 1002 records on my table. So on my Form ( while I ma openineg to add new recrd) I sholud see ID=1003 ( so I should see next free ID number)
ID= autonumer
Any idea how to create this little button ( window)????
According to Clint Covington, Microsoft intends to release the runtime and developer extensions for free.
My opinion is that it should ALWAYS have been free instead of slapping us Access developers with an extra cost so our users don't need to pay hundreds of dollars more to use our applications. I can't think of ANY other development environment that has this drawback.

When a customer makes a booking, all I need to do is check that there is less than 20 cats in the cattery for every day of the customer's intended visit range. This isn't the same as a car-hire system where if a car is out for one day during the intended hire, then the booking can't be made - it doesn't matter which pen a cat is put into, as long as there is a pen free for each day of their visit.
i.e. a customer wants to hire a ford escort from 1st-10th january but it is already booked for the 9th onwards - the booking can't be made.
a customer wants to put their cat in ANY pen from the 1st - 10th so it just depends on ONE pen being free for every day of this visit.
Any suggestions? My teachers are hopeless and I need to have implemented my system by 20th January!!! Thanks, Jayce
I have a list of 500 PDA users, spread over 7 offices. I want to keep an eye on what happens with the devices and their SIM-cards. As they are often swapped between offices and SIM-cards get lost. I am pretty sure that I don't have to re-invent the wheel. Do you have any idea of a free/shareware tracking tool for PDA's and cell phones ?
The correct way is the following: Inc# 2546 ^ capital I, no space between "c" and "#" but a space AFTER the "#"
Then the 4 digit long number.I was thinking along the lines of trying to identify the number, removing everything else and then placing "Inc# " before it... currently we allow notes, which should be made like such: Inc# 2546 - Notes.however, people have their own method for this too (however most of them are at least after then incident number so that makes things much easier)another issue is on the same database, some manual requests also appear which have different entry format: RQ# GK034LW2052 but that contains a mixture of letters and numbers... so when identifying the request number... as long as I make sure that it is a number and not a string of numbers and letters, I should be ok..
So I have a table with 2 fields. The first field has the addresses to multiple hyperlink paths to folders on my computer. In this field the display text matches the hyperlink paths. In the second field I have the desired display text for field 1.I have tried using an update query to either:
1) Change the display texts of field 1 to match field 2 while preserving the hyperlink path 2) Add the hyperlink path from field 1 to field 2 without altering the display name.
I cannot get either one to work. Upon updating field 1, I lose the path, and upon updating field 2, I lose the name.
I have database , I am enter info,(first name and second name)
-when I put first name and second name and it will check if that first and second name been entered before massage box appear and show all related info.
I have a table which lists all documents that refer to a certain entity. the table contains the file names and paths. I would like the user to be able to search for text inside these documents. Can I use Windows Search for that by using code? Is there any other way?
We have a ms graph object in the report. All the programming code relating to it is perfect and the graph displays correct too. But in some circumstances, the graph displays with different mold than it should be.
When we preview it in a single base, it works fine. Sometimes, in this way too the graph has a display error.
I have used the maximum potential solution to this, but all failed in vain.
1. Setting delays and refreshing the form and re-querying the graph data 2. Created a new database and imported all the objects and tried to run 3. Compact and repair database 4. Tried with re-creating the report from scratch.
why this type of error display is coming up with the ms graph object.
I have been building a new db in my personal drive at work which has been working perfectly, until I transfer it to the main network drive so that others can use it.When I try to open it, I now get an error saying that windows cannot access the file (code 0x80070002) - although it does in fact open it anway, eventually.
I have removed and re-instated various bits of code, and discovered that it's linked to the 'Display Form' function within Access Options > Current Database, that I have used to open the form 'Homepage' when the db is opened. When the dropdown is set to 'None', the db opens fine, but when a form is selected, the error occurs. I have tried using an AutoExec macro to open the Homepage form, but this generates the same error too.
I have a form where my users can enter labor line items for various jobs. FOr each line item, they can specify the product and color to be installed. Now, I realize that the CORRECT way to do this is to have a table for products. However, since I am not touching inventory with this application, I am setting it up for them to simplye type it into a text box.
Is there anyway to set up the text box with "memory" so that as they type in the entry, it will start to "guess" what they want by previous entries? Similar to the way a combo box operates.
Just cant seem to find anything on this although i'm sure there is?
I've got a query and with one table in it or the other the records show up fine, but as soon as i include the second table the results come up blank. What am i doing wrong? Just cant seem to think?
