Error Opening MDB Files On New Setup
Apr 28, 2006
I just recently helped a local business move their files to a new server, and reinstall fresh windows and office on all their machines. I have run into a problem with Access, hoping someone can help.
Sometimes (usually when someone else has the file open), if you double click on the mdb file (which is on a mapped drive) nothing happens. If you make a shortcut that doesnt help. But if you open Access, and then goto File-Open and located the MDB file that way, it opens fine.
This is annoying to the employees and they want a solution.
Anyone run into this problem?

I am opening a new mail message in outlook using a button in a form.I want to change the "from" email address to a specific inbox (NOT personal email). Even though the email address is switched, after I hit sent and check my sent items - the email is actually sent from my personal email address and not from the inbox email address i wanted it to be sent from. I have access/permission to sent emails from the other inbox.
Is there a way to make sure emails are sent from specific email addresses and not ONLY personal inbox. What I read online is probably because of some "network" connection issues. Is there a way refresh connection between access and outlook? I am not even sure what the problem is.

I'm trying to automate a process of selecting a set of file/s and move them in a folder. When I click on a button, it should open a current folder that is setup in the code.
Lets say that I have a folder C:documents est, and very time I click on the button, it should open the dialog box with that path so I can select the files from another folder, drag them there and they will be saved in that folder.
This will form part of wider automation that will send an email stating that those file/s where placed in that folder.
I have in the same form where the button is placed, 3 check boxes that needs to be passed to the email as well that one or all the files where placed in the folder.

Hi,
I was wondering if i could get some help here. I think this is to do with the security issue. I usually double-click to open or run an access file (for example student.mdb) that sits on the server with no problem. But this time, nothing happen when i did double-clicked on it from my laptop while the file was being open by someone'else on another computer. I know that it makes sense that we shouldn't open a file that's being used by other users. But my curiosity is that should it not give you a warning like (you know) you're not able to save any changes or things like that. No, i didnot get any of that messages. It's just nothing happen after trying to open it by double-clicking it.
I have set the macro security to low level but that did not help either. Is there any thing that i need to tweak?
Thank you in advance

I have a very simple table of basically a unique number and a couple data fields. On my form with those same fields, I need to be able to create a button that opens a pdf file that is named the same as that unique number. Here is the kicker...I have been able to create a hyperlink with a link to that file and it works fine.... I am trying to set it up so that the file name is automatically put into the hyperlink statement according to what the unique number is for each record.
what I did so far...
in my hyperlink: *file://c:/docubase/3840.pdf (only put * in so not a link here)
this works fine but I need the syntac to make that line take into account the account field (ID) for each record. So something similar to this (already tried this and it doesnt work)
*file://c:/docubase/[id].pdf

There's possibly a very simple answer to this but it's been boggling my mind all morning and I can't find any answers on the net.
I'm opening a db on a network that was built with Access 2003. When I open it with Access 2003 on one pc it opens fine and I can edit it. But when I open it with Access 2007 I get a message saying that's it's opened the db in read only mode and that if I want to edit it I have to save a copy.
I tried opening the db exclusively but still no luck. Is there a reason why it's doing this and how do I get around it?
Many thanks,
Peter

I have a button on a form, when it is clicked it opens a video file located in a folder on the local computer. Each time the button is clicked a security pop up appears that says "Opening file://C:lahblahyadayadaFile.mp4 Some files can contain viruses or otherwise be harmful to your computer. It is important to be certain that this file is from a trustworthy source. Would you like to open this file?" options are open or cancel. How can these messages be turned off?
I have already played around in the trust center of Access 2010 and changed the "trusted documents", "trusted locations", and "message Bar" tabs with no results. Do I have to play with regedit in windows to get rid of these pop ups? Or can I somehow use VBA code to disable them? They are just a nescience.

When trying to open an Access database on the server, an error message appears - "Compile of hidden files error", followed then by a run-time error. There is no problem accessing the the server and opening the database from another PC? Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this. Backups to CD have started failing at the same time.

Good afternoon,
When I'm trying to open a back end database which was previously created is MS Access 97 it gives me the following error;
Cannot update. Database or object is read-only.
I have tried running the "Compact/Repair Function of MS Access 97 and MS Access 2003 to no avail.
I have tried converting the back-end to Access 2003 as well but I still get the same error message. I can link to the database tables from an Access 2003 database fine with no error message!!
Has anyone got any suggestions before I have to take it offline and rebuild the back-end and then copy the data across from the old one?!!!

I have a button that opens another form to enter data on. But when I click the button I am getting the error msg: "Can't find project or library." And the debugger goes to the following sub routine and highlights Date in 3rd line(tried to bold).
This only happens on 1 user's machine. The other 4 computers open it flawlessly. All 5 have the same setup/security. Don't know why it works on 4 and not the last one. Any ideas?

Hi
My repair form pulls data from the vendor table to display the vendor information.
Whenever i try to open the repair form, it gives me a popup first that says "enter the extention number"
regardless of entering data or pressing cancel my form gets displayed.
When i enter a number (a random number) it wil populate my extention field along with all other data. And when i dont enter any number and hit the cancel button, it populates all data except the extention field, that has nothing to do with the number that i enter but is the one stored in the vendor table.
I am confused what to do with this
Can anyone help me
thanks

I want to create a report using the data currently held in a form. I found this bit of code somewhere:
DoCmd.OpenReport "report", acViewPreview, , "[job number] = " & txtFilter.Value
txtFilter is the name of textbox containing the data I want for the report. This works if in the table for txtFilter's data the field is set to a number. But if I set this field to text it comes up with a data type mismatch error. How do I solve this? (sorry new to access and vba). The reason I want to set it as a text field is so that I can limit the number of characters entered.
Thanks
Chris

In the database that I use at work sometimes when we OPEN it we get an immediate error saying out of memory, therefore we close it and reopen and all is good.
This is a problem when the average user logs on as they don't close it, they just continue on and then start experiencing issues.
I thought that the memory was supposed to clear when you close the database.
We run the debugger and no errors are ever found, we also run the compact and repair.
This can happen 1 in 10 or maybe 20 times when we open the database.

I have designed a DB in access 2010 and it opens fine on my computer. However, when others I work with (who still have 2003) try to open the database, they get the following error: "An Error Has Occured Trying to Load The Form "Form Name" - Do You Wish to Continue".
When I click Yes, it brings up all of the VBA code in the background, but when i close all of that out, it still doensn't open.I am by no means an access expert.

I have made a database, splitted it and then made the front end as accde. After that I copied both Front end & back end files in a shared folder. It is working fine as long as I am using it from my computer, but when I go to the other computer and try to open the front end, it gives the message of Unrecognized format error. This problem is only with the accde file, all other files are opening except this.
