Dec 3, 2007
Ok forgive me I'm a newb. I curently have a query in access that I'm trying to make a button to automatically send the results of this query to excell. When I run the code (below) it gives me a compile error saying user defined type not found on the highlighted portion
Private Sub ExporttoX_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_ExporttoX_Click
Dim db As DAO.Database
Dim rs As DAO.Recordset
'Set db = DAO.DBEngine.Workspaces(0).OpenDatabase( _
"C:database.mdb")
Set db = CurrentDb
Set rs = db.OpenRecordset("qbpexcel", dbOpenSnapshot)
'Start a new workbook in Excel
Dim oApp As New Excel.Application
Dim oBook As Excel.Workbook
Dim oSheet As Excel.Worksheet
Set oBook = oApp.Workbooks.Add
Set oSheet = oBook.Worksheets(1)
'Add the field names in row 1
Dim i As Integer
Dim iNumCols As Integer
iNumCols = rs.Fields.Count
For i = 1 To iNumCols
oSheet.Cells(1, i).Value = rs.Fields(i - 1).Name
Next
'Add the data starting at cell A2
oSheet.Range("A2").CopyFromRecordset rs
'Format the header row as bold and autofit the columns
With oSheet.Range("a1").Resize(1, iNumCols)
.Font.Bold = True
.EntireColumn.AutoFit
End With
oApp.Visible = True
oApp.UserControl = True
'Close the Database and Recordset
rs.Close
db.Close
End Sub
Any help would be apreaciated

I am wondering if there is a quicker way to export a query to excel then have the data in that query removed from the original table. (effectively cutting the data from the table and exporting to excel)
I understand that this can be done by exporting the query to excel then running the same query as a delete query to remove the data but I just wondered if this is the most efficient way.
I have experience of VB in excel but currently only use the basic macro builder in Access though if Access VB is more efficient I can easily learn.

When I export a query to xml (MS Access) then the name of the query equals
the tagname in xml. Example: when the queryname is ‘qryRegions’, the xml
result is:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<dataroot xmlns:od="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:officedata"
generated="2006-03-04T14:32:33">
<qryRegions>
<City>Woonplaats</City>
<ContactName>Naam</ContactName>
<Profession>Beroep</Profession>
<Phone>012-3456789</Phone>
<Province>Flevoland</Province>
</qryRegions>
</dataroot>
What I want to do is selecting one of the childNodes as firstChild e.g.:
<dataroot>
<Province>
<City>Woonplaats</City>
<ContactName>Naam</ContactName>
<Profession>Beroep</Profession>
<Phone>012-3456789</Phone>
</Province>
</dataroot>
I can’t find a way to manage this. Any suggestions??

didn't know whether this would be a macro or module or what
right now I have a query that I right click on and go to export then I change it to Text. I then set it to Fixed Width and then under advanced i set field information i changed the width from 255 to 181 but keep start 1 and field name "Expr1".
i would like a macro or code that would automate this whole process for me.
thanks,

Oper sys is XP. Office 2000 version of Access. Extensive experience with Excel but very little with Access.
I'm creating an astronomical database that includes a function that calculates the distance to galaxies in millions of light years. These databases are massive. Total database has about 1.6 million galaxies (100 Meg). My query concerns about 500,000 of these.
Have the original database and done the query on the objects of interest. It includes the cacluations. All perfect.
Now, it is possible to save just the query so that I can copy it onto a CD and take to the observatory for field reference. Query has about 500,000 lines, one for each galaxy, but is only six columns wide. But at 500k lines it cannot be exported into Excel. Or at least I don't know how to do that.
Thanks for your assistance

The fact is that I'm using "order by" options and some functions like "Month", and "Export" options appears disabled, is there a way to export this query to Excel? :confused:

Hi there,
I have a button on a form and when I press it I would like this to happen:
Some code will be run that makes a copy of an templatefile (Excel), puts the values that comes from my query into the document and the saves it with a name that comes from two textboxes. I would also like to be able to put in some other text in the document, like two dates that I have on my form. Does anyone know how to do this ???

I just want to export a query table manually to a tab delimited file. I choose text try setting the file extension to .tab as well and I wind up with some sort of fixed width file.
I know this because when I open it in Excel it has the | symbos and so forth.
It's as if it is calling for an export spec, but I'm not aware of needing to do this when exporiting manually.
It seems like I have done this numrous times without this problem.
Any ideas? Thanks

I currently export a select query as a .dbf file to a particular location and file name. I would like to automate this procedure to a command button on click event. Does anyone know the code to do this or have another way for me to do this automatically? It would even be better if I could export this same Query to Crystal Report automatically.
Thanks for the help!

Folks,
I have a form with combo box (cboProjForRptSeltn ) and two command buttons. The combo box is filled with name of the reports. The combo box has two columns, column 1 is the name of the report and column 2 is the bound column which also is the link field (primary key) to limit the records.
When the user selects an item from cbo box and click the "Preview Risk Table" command button it will open a report in preview mode. The report's "Record Source" property is set to a UNION query (qryRprtRskTbl) which pull the records from several tables. The report's "Filter" property is set to the following criteria:
“qryRprtRskTbl.P.intProjectId=Forms!frmReportSelec tionBlrR1!cboProjForRptSeltn”
The above criteria is nothing but filter based on the value of the cbo box.
The click event procedure is as follows:
Private Sub cmdPreviewRprt_Click()
Dim strDocName As String
strDocName = "rptRskTblProjectWise"
DoCmd.OpenReport strDocName, acPreview, "qryRprtRskTblFilter_r1"
End Sub
"qryRprtRskTblFilter_r1" is another query out of the UNION query I mentioned above (qryRprtRskTbl). qryRprtRskTblFilter_r1 is pulling all the records from qryRprtRskTbl which meets the projectID field selected in cbo box, which is also the same as the "Filter" property value of the report as indicated above.
Everything works fine with cbo box and "Preview Risk Table" command button. It just pull all the records for the project selected under cbo box and display it as report in preview mode. Looks great!!
Here's my problem. I wanted to export the same report that was previewed by the user to Excel. For this I am using, another command button called “Export to Excel”. The click event of this procedure is as shown below:
Private Sub cmdExportToExcel_Click()
On Error Resume Next
Dim xlApp As Excel.Application
Dim xlSheet As Excel.Worksheet
Dim xlWorkbook As Excel.Workbook
Dim acQuery As QueryDef
Dim objRST As Recordset
Dim strQueryName As String
Dim strSearch As String
'Dim strSQL As String
'strSearch = Me![cboProjForRptSeltn]
strQueryName = "qryRprtRskTblFilter_r1"
'strQueryName = "qryEffcyAllProjtsForRprt"
Set xlApp = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
xlApp.Visible = True
Set xlWorkbook = xlApp.Workbooks.Add
Set objRST = Application.CurrentDb.OpenRecordset(strQueryName)
'Loop through the fileds collection and make each field name a column heading in Excel
Set xlSheet = xlWorkbook.Sheets(1)
For lvlColumn = 0 To objRST.Fields.Count - 1
xlSheet.Cells(1, lvlColumn + 1).Value = objRST.Fields(lvlColumn).Name
Next
'Change the font to bold for header row
xlSheet.Range(xlSheet.Cells(1, 1), xlSheet.Cells(1, objRST.Fields.Count)).Font.Bold = True
' I have some codes here for formatting Excel cells …
'Send data from Recordset out to Excel
With xlSheet
.Range("A2").CopyFromRecordset objRST
.Name = Left(strQueryName, 31)
End With
Set xlSheet = Nothing
Set xlWorkbook = Nothing
Set xlApp = Nothing
End Sub
When I click the command button, it loads an instance of Excel and adds a workbook under the query name "qryRprtRskTblFilter_r1", but no data.
If I use another query say, "qryEffcyAllProjtsForRprt", which has no connection to cbo box value then it is cool, exports all the data to Excel without any problem.
I guess, you folks understand what I am trying to achieve here. Basically, I wanted to give the user some flexibility, either they can view the data as Access report or Export to Excel with same formatting feature and add more later if they want after exporting, as they see on Access report preview.
I have attached some of the query files I have described here. May be I can clarify more down the road, if necessary.
My bottom line question is: why the “qryRprtRskTblFilter_r1” query runs perfectly on Access reports but not when I want to run to export to Excel?
I don’t want to use the TransferSpreadsheet or outputTo method of docmd object, because I wanted to do some formatting before I export to excel.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
ShanVel

Hi Everyone,
I am working on a Sales Analysis db, which pulls from:
tSales - Sales Figures (40k records)
tBuildUnit - Bom Build Units (8k records - one per product)
tBom - Bills of Material - All Components (71k records)
tUom - Units of Measure for Products (80k records - 10 per product)
It is quite basic in theory, it looks at a product sold, goes to tBom to get the cost of the raw materials.
I have a query that sums the components by their group, distinguishing between material and labour cost by the component group (cGrp) which is 'WORK' for labour and <>"WORK for materials. I can then sum the cost of the materials for a given product.
Anyway to cut to the issue in hand.
I export from our system (LM4 on btrieve on novell 3.2) into CSVs then manipulate those
And basically i want to have:
Cust______Sale04__Sale05__Sale06__Mat04__Mat05__Ma t06
Genesis 400 350 420 230 190 250
Exodus 0 100 0 0 60 0
Revelation 200 300 140 200
we have 220 customers in this recordset. so i would like just 220 rows.
My data that i export shows every transaction (so i have 40k records)
So i used a aggregate query, grouping by customer account and summing the value, material, and labour fields, however this gives me each customer three times, one per year e.g.:
Cust______Sale04__Sale05__Sale06__Mat04__Mat05__Ma t06
Genesis 400 0 0 230 0 0
Genesis 0 350 0 0 190 0
Genesis 0 0 420 0 0 250
How do i get one what i describe above?
After the query runs i want to export to excel with:
DoCmd.OutputTo acOutputQuery, "qGrouping", acFormatXLS, "d:Output.xls", True
Thanks

I need to export a Query to XML to be used in a PhP script.However the XML output format differ from the example I have.The example is far more simplistic so I need to get rid of the extra stuff.I assume that I would need to use a schema to correct this but I've been unable to get the syntax correct.
Current Output
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<dataroot xmlns:od="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:officedata" generated="2015-06-25T07:02:27">
<_x0031_23>
<password>abc</password>
</_x0031_23>
</dataroot>
Output I need:
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<user>
<password>abc</password>
</user>
Schema I tried to use (xsl file type)
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<xsd:schema xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:od="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:officedata">
<user>
<password>abc</password>
</user>
</xsd:schema>

I have two tables that are linked by a key field that I need to export for uploading onto a website database:
Chemical Properties
Chemical Components
key field: ChemicalID
I need help in developing a query or an output report to export the chemicals with their properties and the components from the other table. This may not be as simple as just making a query. Each chemical has 3 or more components and currently they are linked to one chemical.
To make a file to transfer to the online database, the chemical and all the components have to be in the same record. Right now the data exists as each record in the chemical table linked to several records in the component table. I don't know how to program the database to put the linked chemicals and their components on the same record. Has anyone confronted this problem before?
I've made as sample spreadsheet to show how the chemicals and their properties will look in the spreadsheet used to upload the data. Please look at the attachment before commenting.
Thanks,
PC

I'm creating a query with VBA, then exporting it to Excel. I have a couple calculated date fields that are exporting in the format of dd-mmm-yy, but I want them in the mm/dd/yyyy format. In the query, they're in the proper format, but not in the export. I tried using Format([DateField],"mm/dd/yyyy"), but then they left align in the export, but are fine in the query.

I want to export all the fields from DailyExport each of our 9 offices to Excel, whetjer or not they have date in the DailyExport table. So if not, the exported workbook would only have columns headings.
I need to loop through the nine offices and export each office report to Excel.

Dim SOffice as String
strSQL = "SELECT * FROM DailyExport WHERE FailureGrouping = " & SOffice

Why does the first of the two lines below work, when I export a table, but not work when I export from that same table using a query?
(I'm trying to export the table without including the first column...)
Code:
DoCmd.TransferText acExportDelim, "Employees_Export_Specification", "tblEmployees", strPath & "" & strFilename, True
DoCmd.TransferText acExportDelim, "Employees_Export_Specification", "qryFinalExportToDataFile", strPath & "" & strFilename, True
When I use the latter line, which uses the query in the "tablename" parameter an error msg that pops up complains that "MS Access database engine could not find the object, make sure the object exists, you've spelled it correctly..." etc.
Should I be using a different Do.Cmd or acExport thingy?
I guess I can always write a select into newtable without the first column and then carry on with the line that works, but I also want to understand what I am doing wrong.

I have a Query derived from a single Table in Access 2010 which I routinely export in spreadsheet format.
I have now built a report from the Query in which has labels have been added to suit an external agency. I wish to export this Report in Excel format, but the resulting file does not include the additional labels and is merely an xls version of the underlying query.
Is there an alternative method of achieving what I need?
