Extract A Number From A String?
Sep 16, 2013
I do have a module to extract a number from a string :
Public Function ExtractedValue(strSent) As Double
If IsNull(strSent) Then
Exit Function
End If
Dim strTemp As String
Dim intLoop As Integer
[code]....
My problem is that the string I do have is like:
19.0 EA
195 PAC
42 M
150 L
the problem is that when the number is like 19.0 EA the value I get is 190, in reality it should be 19. The rest is fine as there are no dot's.

I am trying to extract the first instance of 3 numbers from a string using an update query to update another field in the same table(Master Equipment) titled "Code". the field is called "Equipment". the strings vary in length as well as the location of the 3 numbers needed, but I have examples of all possible locations the 3 number series could be located below. As you will notice, some fields do not contain 3 numbers together, for these I don't want to return a value.

I have a column containing records of the timestamp of an event. I need to extract the date out of each of these records and put them in a separate table. The date and time of each record is contained within a bracket.
E.g.
ES~1~1412179200(Oct 02 00:00:00 2014)~1~ITM_W64MQMONITORLOG00~
0~0~ES~1~1412179203(Oct 02 00:00:03 2014)~1~ITM_Log_Entries~
0~0~ES~1~1412179204(Oct 02 00:00:04 2014)~1~ITM_Log_Entries~
As you can see, the number of characters of each record are different, so I am unable to do the Left$ count thingy.
Is there any other way to do it? I only need the date and time contained in the brackets.

"Att Mr/Mrs Vezi Your DEFAULTED account has been handed over to XXX. Payment DUE IMMEDIATELY Ref 1315519509. Tel 0009377500"
I need to extract the word "Ref " plus the number that follows it from the above string. The problem is that the word "Ref " is not always in the same place and the number following it is not always the same length. (ie it could look like "Ref 123456 " or "Ref 1234567 ") The only commonality between the records is that the number will always follow the word "Ref ".

I have tried to find this on the forum but it seems all the answers are to do with manipulating the strings based on what the postcode is whereas I just want to extract the postcode as a separate string as simply as possible.
Basically, I have a text field called Add5 which has the last line of the address including the postcode.
Example: "Northampton NN1 7PQ"
I am trying to end up with two strings like this
Add5 = "Northampton"
Postcode = "NN1 7PQ"
I only need to do this in one place, I don't think it needs a module.

In Access 2007, in a table “Source” -> "UserName" column, I'm trying to truncate and extract value in the string:
a. Value within the parenthesis preceded by "".
b. Value outside the parenthesis preceded by “”
“Source” table contains the column ‘UserName’
“Final” table contains the columns ‘UserName’, “Expected_Output_1” and “Expected_Output_2”.
I tried using the following expressions to extract the output results, but unfortunately there’re not displaying the results in correct format.
For extracting results of “Expected_Output_1” I used: Mid([UserName],InStrRev([UserName],"")+1)
For extracting results of “Expected_Output_2” I used:
Mid(Mid([UserName],InStr([UserName],"(")+1,InStr([UserName],")")-InStr([UserName],"(")-1),InStrRev(Mid([UserName],InStr([UserName],"(")+1,InStr([UserName],")")-InStr([UserName],"(")-1),"")+1)
Attaching the database for your reference.
Expected results should match the snapshot attached or table “Final” in the attached DB
Example:
UserName = C103E000001 then the “Expected_Output_1” = E000001, “Expected_Output_2” = nothing
UserName = NAHoM\_INTRA_MTS (NAHoMDNAGAIntranetAdmin) then the “Expected_Output_1” = _INTRA_MTS, “Expected_Output_2” = DNAGAIntranetAdmin

I have a table that keeps track of how many times an account is listed. I want to write a query that will only return the greatest number of occurences for that account. For example if acct 12345 has 3 occurences in the database I only want to return the information that is associated with the #3 occurence. As stated there is a field that calculates the number of occurences for each account so in this case there would be a record for 1, 2, and 3 occurence so I only want to see #3. Hope that makes sense. Thanks!

Hello,
I would appreciate if someone could help on this problem.
What I want to do is to add a field in a form that would automatically show the date of person's birth after entering the persons ID. For example, I enter 39101012345. The first number (3) shows only the gender so I don't need it. The next 6 numbers show the date of persons birth - it is 910101 and it means that the birthdate is 1991.01.01
I need this field in a date format because later I will have to do some calculations concerned with the birthdate of that person.
Thanks in advance!
p.s. beer for help is quaranteed! :)

How to extract or calculate the number of records in a sequence - e.g. in a table/query ordered by ID and date, the number of consecutive records by date for a given ID that have a value >= 50 in a given field. Is there a way of doing this purely within a query, or would I have to resort to a VBA loop through a recordset and keep a count of the consecutive records that match that criteria?

I have a field on my Report called Revenue. It is used in a calculation and there is a calculated field called Profit. Revenue-Cost=Profit. That all works.
The only thing that is wrong is that the Revenue field displays its numbers like this:
0.7
12.43
4.3
0
etc.
i.e. not formatted for currency. But I don't get the currency option under Format. It is based on a Query and this Query is based on a Linked Table.
Any suggestions on how to get it formatted as currency while still having the calculated field working?

I am trying to do some simple table operations. I have a field (Date) containing dates, and an empty field called Day.
I want to extract the day number from the Date field, and write it to the Day field.
I didn't get very far until I ran into trouble when setting my recordset. I get the error "Too few parameters, expected 1". Clicking "Debug", will highlight the code line "Set rs = db.OpenRecordset(sqlString, dbOpenDynaset)".
So far, my code looks as follows:
Code:
Private Sub Command16_Click()
Dim db As DAO.Database
Dim rs As DAO.Recordset
Dim sqlString As String
Dim dataDay As Byte
'Open connection to current Access database
Set db = CurrentDb()
[Code]...
I am not very familiar with the various types of recordset settings. I just want to be able to read data from the Date field, and write data to the Day field.

looked around but could not find the answer.
i have a text box that might or might not contain text and number data. an example of the data in the text box might be;
bob roberts, 17/03/2006, aged 23
what i would like is some VB code that would:
check anywhere in the text box for number characters that are 8 characters in length with a comma at the end [12345678,] as in the first example. and change this to 12/34/5678,
bob roberts, 17032006, aged 23
would become 'on lost focus'
bob roberts, 17/03/2006, aged 23
anybody any idea how to do this?
thanks

Hi!
I have two tables Atable and BTable and both have a field called AcctNo. In Atable, it is type of Number and in BTable, it is type of Text. When I do a join with these two tables
select * from Atable, BTable where Atable.AcctNo=Btable.AcctNo
I get error saying "type mismatch".
My question here is: How can I convert a type from number to string or string to number in my sql statement?
Thanks,
Aijun.

I have a query which runs fine, however one of the outputs is a calculated field and i use the Format(someValue,"Fixed") method of specifying the format for the % Change .Here is the query
Code:
SELECT tblTempBearsWeek3.SymbolCode AS [Short Ticker], tblTempBullsWeek3.SymbolCode AS [Long Ticker], tblTempBearsWeek3.[Week 3 Date], tblTempBearsWeek3.Short, tblTempBullsWeek3.Long, tblTempBearsWeek3.[Short Week 3 Close], tblTempBullsWeek3.[Long Week 3 Close],
[code]...
The problem is that the % Change calculated field for some reason comes out as a String. i know this because when I try and sort on that column, it sorts it as if it is text and not a number value i.e. it doesn't put it in Ascending order.

I am looking to find if a field contains a number and then build a case statement depending on which number is found. The field will contain data just like this:
Quote:
Repaired frequency response and grounding issues. Replaced 2 Hybrids, capacitors, and connectors. Tested MER/BER and operation to specs.
Here is my code that did not work:
Code:
If Me.txt_work_comm1 Like "*Hybrid" Then
'Sets up auto priced based on number of hybrids entered
'1 hybrid
If Me.txt_work_comm1 Like "*1" Then
strCriteria = "repair_item = 'Charter RF Amplifier Repair + 1 Hybrid' AND profile_types = 'Alpha'"
[Code]....
To Summarize:
1. I need to find if the word "Hybrid" or "Hybrids" is in the field
2. Then I need to know how many to determine a price
