Find Button Question

Jul 20, 2005

Does anyone know of where I can find something on how to create a Find button? I don't want to use the one you can create through the command button wizard b/c its not what I want. I need it to do a search by one control. If I use the wizard Find button it will be a pain for the user, with them having to click in the right control before searching.

Thanks a bunch!

Find Record Command Button

Oct 26, 2005

I know you can create a find record command button really simply, which when clicked will display the find and replace window.

What i want to do is create a command button that will search a specific field that i specify in a report for the criteria i enter.

i.e i have a customer information form, which contains

AccountNo
CompanyName
Address
Postcode
Tel etc

what i want is a button that when clicked brings up an input field that allows the user to type the name of the company into this field, then when either the enter key is pressed or another button on this pop up window the matching record will be displayed or a error window stating that there are no matching records. Can anyone help me with this.

Ms Access Search/find Command Button??

Oct 29, 2004

I have a MS Access database, and I have set up a form for users to input

name, address, ssn and other data. I have command buttons on the form

to print a record, add a record, delete a record and to exit. I tried the

search option, but with 50k records on a netwoek, it was to slow.

Is there a way to have a search on a command button, (Macro?) on

this form to allow our employees to search by name or ssn?

Thanks for your help.

Forms :: Adding Generic Find Next Button

Jul 25, 2013

I am having issues with assigning search criteria for the "Find Next Button". I used the wizard and it does not ask what criteria to use for Find Next. I am assuming there is a bit of VBA I need to add to the generic Find Next button. This is what comes up when I use the wizard to create the button:

Private Sub Command118_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_Command118_Click
Screen.PreviousControl.SetFocus
DoCmd.FindNext
Exit_Command118_Click:
Exit Sub
Err_Command118_Click:
MsgBox Err.Description
Resume Exit_Command118_Click
End Sub

How do I define the criteria for the next record. I want the db to move to the next record with the same [PtMRN].

General :: Button On A Form To Find A Certain Record?

Aug 23, 2012

I have a form [Invoice] with a subform [Orderssubform1] in it and they are both linked with the field 'CustomerID' using a parent and child relationship. I have also established that relationship in the tables too. Using a combo box [Combo0], the user can select a customer from the form and then enter details about the invoice in the subform. They then click 'Generate Invoice' and it creates a report for them. This all works fine.

The problem arises when I want the customer to locate a certain invoice using a button. I would like the customer to be able to click a button on the form which would then bring up a box asking them to enter the invoice number [InvoiceNo] and it would then locate that invoice so they can generate it as a report again. The user can find the customer themselves using the combo box, I just want the record related to that customer to be found using the button.

Forms :: Find Button - Message Box To Display No Results Found

Sep 26, 2013

I am not sure where to start or go about creating message box that would display "No results found" if my queries return no results. My search of the forums hasn't been fruitful.

I have created one form that has a text box and a button that works as a search function to run through the tables and displays the applicable queries. Currently, if no results are returned nothing happens. Preferably I would like a message box to display stating that there were "No results found". I would assume that the code would be associated with the "Find" button. Here is the VBA code as it stands, again, I haven't even attempted to add code for a message box.

Private Sub Find_Click()
On Error GoTo Find_Click_Err

If DCount("Heading", "Service Desk Manual Query") > 0 Then
DoCmd.OpenQuery "Service Desk Manual Query", acViewNormal, acReadOnly
End If

[Code] .....

Find_Click_Exit:
Exit Sub

Find_Click_Err:
MsgBox Error$
Resume Find_Click_Exit

Queries :: Find A Way For Access To Find Unique Dates And Unique Names?

Aug 1, 2014

I have been working on a simple data base for some time now (beginner level) and am still trying to improve it. I would like to do something but before that I would like to have your opinion to know if it is even possible?I have a query QryMainReport:

Start Date/Time
End Date/Time
Employee

At the moment this is what the format of my report looks like (I removed other unnecessary fields):

StartTime----------EndTime---------------Employee
12/06/2014 01:00--12/06/2014 03:00------John Smith
12/06/2014 04:00--12/06/2014 06:00------Jane Doe
13/06/2014 02:00--13/06/2014 05:00------John Smith
13/06/2014 08:00--13/06/2014 08:00------Jane Doe

I would like to do as a report. (Dates would always be from Sunday to Saturday). I am not sure it is possible to do that. I suppose first it would mean:I would have to do a query to separate the times from the dates?I would have to find a way for Access to find the unique dates and unique names?Does it mean I have to use cross tab queries?

A Word Find Can't Find

May 23, 2005

A customer's name is SZEE. Seek him through the SName textbox with Find, and Access can't find him. (Same in the table.) Seek him with a wildcard Sz* and there he is.

I've tried it on another machine - also with Access2k - and it's the same.

Is it an Access quirk? Is there an answer? (The client asks why. Be good to be able to say.) Cheers.

Forms :: Command Button To Unlock And Lock Fields / Edit Button?

Feb 19, 2014

I have created a web-database (? - There are globes over all the forms and tables icons) based on the Issues & Tasks template. This means that most of the data is entered and seen on the "Main" form, which has two tabs - Open Issues and Closed Issues. I have created a form that allows people at my work to input the necessary data and save it, so that it will show up on one of the two tabs. However, once a record has been created, I want to be initially locked if the ID/PK is clicked, so that data can't be changed or entered inadvertently.

SO, I changed the code so that when the ID/PK for a record is clicked, it brings up a different form, but one that looks exactly like the one that is brought up when entering a new form, but I locked all of the fields so that the information cannot be changed. It seems from what I have read that I can create a button on this form so that when clicked, it unlocks the fields on the form so that they can be changed, and then when clicked again it will lock the fields again. Is this true? If so, how can I do it? Or is there something similar I can do? I have seen codes that I could copy and paste, but I cannot figure out the place to copy and paste codes in Access 2010.

I have changed the Form properties so that Data Entry and all the "Allows" are set to No...

Difference Between A Command Button And A 'label' Button

Aug 12, 2005

Hi, I have got a small problem and maybe someone could advise me.
I am creating a customised command button from a label button. The new button works fine but I can't apply the 'requery' function to it, if i do an error occures and i am being prompt to save the data first???? :confused: :

Private Sub Labelsearch_Click()
Me!itemquery.Requery
End Sub

Private Sub Labelsearch_MouseDown(Button As Integer, Shift As Integer, X As Single, Y As Single)
Me.Labelsearch.SpecialEffect = 2
Me.Labelsearch.BackColor = 255
Me.Labelsearch.ForeColor = 10092543
Me.Labelsearch.FontItalic = True
Me.Labelsearch.FontBold = True
End Sub

Private Sub Labelsearch_MouseMove(Button As Integer, Shift As Integer, X As Single, Y As Single)
Me.Labelsearch.ForeColor = 255
Me.Labelsearch.FontItalic = False
Me.Labelsearch.FontBold = True
End Sub

Private Sub Labelsearch_MouseUp(Button As Integer, Shift As Integer, X As Single, Y As Single)
'Come back to initial state when button release'
Me.Labelsearch.SpecialEffect = 1
Me.Labelsearch.BackColor = 16373685
Me.Labelsearch.ForeColor = 8388608
Me.Labelsearch.FontItalic = False
Me.Labelsearch.FontBold = True
End

If I create a command button with the wizard and assign the code :
me!itemquery.Requeryto the on_click event my form is working fine.
Why is his code is not working if I assign it to a label? :o

Find Box

Apr 6, 2005

Hey everyone,

Im creating a database for college using MS access 2003.

I have 3 table that contain data and i am building form to allow a user to search for a particular customer. The customer ID in my customer table is an auto number.

I have a button on my form and it shows the find and replace box when pressed which is what i want but i then want it so that when a user types a customer ID number in to that find and replace box and it is an exact match for the find and replace box to auto close else show an Error message and allow the user to input another customer number,

Im sure there is macro code to do this so im asking if anyone knows or has any better ideas?

Using Find Of ADO

Sep 19, 2004

Hello Expert,

I have attempted for two days to following codes. I am still unable to get the way out. Would you give me a help?

The field fund_cd is a combo box of transaction table to look up reference table called fund_type. Here is the structure of fund_type:

fund_cd text 3

fund_desc text 50

fund_currency text 5

My needs are to pull both values of fund_cd and fund_currency to transaction table, so 1 combo box cannot meet my needs. As such, I write following codes to base on selected fund_cd to find appropriate value of fund_currency in fund_type.

From the code below, I meet the run-time error ‘3001’ and I am not sure can I finally get fund_currency using method of GetString.

Dim strSQL As String

Dim strccy As String

Dim rst As ADODB.Recordset

Set rst = New ADODB.Recordset

rst.ActiveConnection = CurrentProject.Connection

rst.CursorType = adOpenStatic

rst.Open "Select * from fund_type"

strSQL = "fund_cd = " & Me.fund_cd

rst.MoveFirst

rst.Find strSQL, 0, adSearchForward

strccy = rst.GetString(adClipString)

Thanks very much!

Find Command

Mar 7, 2006

I have a find command button that appears to call the find and replace message box. It should be a search for anything in my query. The code behind the button looks like the find and replace message box in the office suite. I believe I am trying to create a message box where you add an entry and it searches then lauches a subform with my entries.

When I checked the button it had the following code:
Private Sub cmdFind_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_cmdFind_Click

Screen.PreviousControl.SetFocus
DoCmd.DoMenuItem acFormBar, acEditMenu, 10, , acMenuVer70

Exit_cmdFind_Click:
Exit Sub

Err_cmdFind_Click:
MsgBox Err.Description
Resume Exit_cmdFind_Click

End Sub

I read a few of the lookup queries but they only give me a drop down. Is there some way to customize the box comes up without altering all of Office or do I just sound lost.

Can't Find My Access DB!

Jun 1, 2006

Ok, so I made a registration website with FrontPage and published it. The registration page has several text boxes and a submit button. I was testing it out and entered a few dummy names. The conformation page popped up and said everything was ok. So I'm assuming the data successfully uploaded into the Access DB that I linked it to while in development.

My problem is when I go to the folder where the DB resides there so no data in the tables. I'm thinking that maybe when the website gets published a copy of the DB is moved somewhere and I'm looking in the wrong place? This is the first time I have made a webpage or used FrontPage so please excuse my ignorance, hehe.
