Find Matching Data Between 2 Queries

Aug 23, 2012

I am managing a tool room and one of my tasks is to update a chit board where people sign out their tools. I have managed to make a query to find New Employees and one to find Terminated Employees. I have also made a query to find the matching employees between these two queries.

My problem is that we employ both contractors and direct employees. When a contractor is hired on directly, their name shows up in both the New list and the Terminated list. What I want to do is have a separate query that shows contractors who went direct and not have these employees show up in the other 2 queries.

Both queries are unmatched query that compare the "Current Chit Board" table to the "Weekly Roster Check" table. The first query called "New Employees" displays the data from the "Weekly Roster Check" table where Employee Number from "Current Chit Board" Is Null. The second query called "Terminated Employees" is the exact oposite. The third query I have is called "Contract to Direct" compares the "New Employees" query to the "Terminated Employees" Query with a "fields from both tables are equal" join type. The problem is when I try to do an unmatched between either the New or Terminated Emplyees queries and the Contract to Direct query, I get a Circular Reference warning and it doesn't execute.

Queries :: Query Data Not Matching?

I have a table that holds course information for students. I have a parameter query linked to this prompting the user to enter a course code thus displaying all students who have that course. However, I would like to do the opposite i.e prompt the user to enter a course code and then the result to be a list of students who do not have that course.

Merging 2 Queries Of Same Data To Get Lowest Price And Matching Items

Sep 4, 2006

I must admit I am a "newby" to Access but I have bought my Access 2000 bible, as I am running Access 2000, and attempted to create my desired database. I have linked to 2 tables that I download on a daily basis. This is my inventory from two different suppliers. I then have created two queries that filters each of these files to only show positive quantity items, filters out item specifics, etc. What I want to do is join the 2 queries with their data already filtered. Both of the files from 2 different suppliers contain some of the same data. Once joined if there is an item that is the same I want to delete the higher cost item and only show the lower cost item, I also want to show the rest of the items that do not match. It is easy to identify the same items as every item contains a 12 digit identifier called a upc.I can create a UNION ALL query that shows every item from the two queries. However, I am unsure as to how I go about deleting the higher cost item and only showing the lower cost item if the item is the same. On a side note after I get the results desired I will then be createing an append to query and append all this information to another file that is then uploaded to another system.I will try to attach some sample data that I am using from the two queries I want to join, this data is only a sample of a much bigger file.Thank you and any and all comments or suggestions is much appreciated.

Find Matching Entries In Other Tables?

Dec 10, 2007

Im using Access 2000.

Essentially I want to find out which of the entries in my master table have matching entries in my other tables, and list the ones that do.

So if I have an entry in the master table for “productA”, and there are also matching entries for “productA” in tables “SupplierC” and “SupplierD”. I want to perform a query that will output a list showing “SupplierC” and “SupplierD” (I have A & B tables but if there isn’t an entry in them for “ProductA” I don’t want them on the list.)

I intend to use the results to populate the values of a combo box in future so I require the list to be in a single column, rather than across many columns. Does anyone know if this is possible?

My master table is called “OurProductsTable” and the four supplier tables are called “SupplierA”, “SupplierB”, “SupplierC”, and “SupplierD”.

Each Table has a primary key called “ProductID” and I have linked them together on the relationships screen.

I’m not sure if this is the proper method but I also made another field in each of the supplier tables called “CompanyName” and set the default value as the name of each supplier, so if the entry for supplierC matches the master table entry I can return the “CompanyName” value of “SupplierC”.

Here’s what I thought the code should kind of look like but I don’t know how to apply it properly in a query:

Find - Not Finding All Matching Records, But Filter By Selection Does.

Jul 9, 2007

Hi All,

I have a strange problem that has me beaten.
I open an Access 2003 table, sort on field "Job Number", click the Find button and enter a job number.
I expect to find 30 records, but Find only hits 8 of them.
If I over-type the Job Number (with the same numerics), Find is then able to return this record.
If I place my cursor in ANY of the 30 records and click Filter by Selection, all 30 records are included.
I thought there may be a non-printable character or a space hidden at the end of the field, but I expect both Filter and Find would return the same records.
Even more strangely, when my client zips the MDB file and emails it to me, this behaviour does not occur on my PC.
Has anyone else comes across this behaviour? If so, can you please point me in the direction that will help me find a solution.
cheers,
Mark Chimes

Find Matching Dates In Tables A And B / Then Populate Blank Fields In A From B

Apr 30, 2012

I have a table tROE with a field listing all dates starting 1/1/10 to date (populated), and three fields for currency exchange rates [USD], [RSD] & [EUR] which are empty and need to be populated. I have another table tROEPartial that has the exchange rates for some of the dates starting 1/1/10 but not all. Their structures are identical. I want to add the exchange rates from tROEPartial to tROE where the dates match, leaving the unmatched fields in tROE blank.

Queries :: Find A Way Of Overwriting Records In Table With New Data

Aug 6, 2014

I have a table where csv files get imported to on a daily basis. The key fields I am working with are a supply number and date. The problem I have is that sometimes the csv file will contain information that is correcting/updating information held in the table. This is creating duplicated records.I need to either create a query to find records that have the same supply number and date or find a way of overwriting the records in the table with the new data.

Queries :: Find The Recent Available Data Based On Dates?

Jul 9, 2014

I have a price table:

Code:

2 02.01.2014 Firma A 7
3 03.01.2014 Firma A 9

And I have a table with the dates, for which I need a price.

PosNr PriceDate Company Price
1 01.01.2014 Firma A 5
2 02.01.2014 Firma A 7
3 03.01.2014 Firma A 9
4 04.01.2014 Firma A 8
5 05.01.2014 Firma A 8 (actualy no priceavailable, so take last price)
6 06.01.2014 Firma A 6

8 03.01.2014 Firma XY 9
9 04.01.2014 Firma XY 7
10 05.01.2014 Firma XY 8
11 06.01.2014 Firma XY 10

how I can get this?

I have this code, but it need hours.

B.PriceDate <= tblDates.PriceDate

Queries :: Find Specific Data In A Table To Produce A Report

May 14, 2013

I have a table that is linked into access 2003. This table is updated by personnel in another location and I have to run a weekly report on engines that are below a certain performance level.

The column heading is MGT Margin and I have to list all of the engines that are below 20 degrees.

Can I run a query that looks at this table and produces a report of all the engines that are below 20 degrees?

I currently have to cut and paste each engine from the updated spread sheet every week onto a separate spread sheet and import that into access. If a query can be used to do what I am after I can use similar principles in other reports I have to run.

Queries :: Create Query To Find Certain Records Based On Data In CSV File

Aug 14, 2014

This may not even be possible, but I am looking to create a Query that can locate records in an Access Table based on 2 columns of data that I have stored in a CSV file.

My table contains several fields, 2 of which are "Dept" and "SKU" and has over a million records.

My CSV file contains 3 fields: "Dept", "SKU" and "Total" - total being the number of times that particular Dept/SKU combination is used.

I need to be able to parse the dept/sku values from each row in the CSV to the query and locate only the records that contain the same values in the Access table.

The plan being to delete out those that are identified by the query.

Queries :: Combining Queries Without Matching ID Values

I have two queries:

1. a sum of payments by individuals
2. a sum of charges of individuals.

I want to combine these queries to create a report that shows the sums for each person of the charges and payments and calculate the balance. However, it is only showing me those individuals that have both a charge sum and a payment sum, while some individuals will only have a charge sum. How do I get those individuals to show and show with a zero payment balance if they are in my charge sum query but not my payment sum query and vice versa (some may have made a prepayment even though they have not been charged yet).

Matching Data Help!!!!

Sep 7, 2005

Hello,

I am using this query to get matching data:

SELECT NewMyEstartChild.yordob, NewMyEstartChild.firstname, NewMyEstartChild.surname, NewMyEstartChild.postcode
FROM NewMyEstartChild INNER JOIN For2003 ON (NewMyEstartChild.postcode = For2003.POSTCODE) AND (NewMyEstartChild.yordob = For2003.MyDOB);

but It's giving me more data so to minimise data I was thinking to add another filed. which is Firstname field. but some children's name are spell incorrectly.

How can I match data with first letter only ? I have tries following query but it doesn't work. Please help!!!!!!!!

SELECT NewMyEstartChild.yordob, NewMyEstartChild.firstname, NewMyEstartChild.surname, NewMyEstartChild.postcode
FROM NewMyEstartChild INNER JOIN For2003 ON (NewMyEstartChild.postcode = For2003.POSTCODE) AND (NewMyEstartChild.yordob = For2003.MyDOB) AND (NewMyEstartChild.Firstname = For2003.Firstname);

In last part of this query (NewMyEstartChild.Firstname = For2003.Firstname); How can I get the name of children whose firstname's letter is similar.

Matching Data

Nov 15, 2005

My problem is this:

I have a large table with about (8000+) records and a smaller table (2000+) records.
The large table has been exported from an ACT! database.
The smaller table has 4 fields that i need to add to the larger table, and then i need to import the updated records back into the Act! database.

I created a simple select query and matched the tables with the only 2 criteria that match the 2 tables, this was "Company" and "PostCode".

This should have been ok, but instead of updating 2000+ records it only updated 1000. The reason for this is because some of the company names weren’t an exact match, "company ltd" and "company limited" etc.

If i just linked "postcode" to "postcode" there are quite a few different companies that have the same postcode.

Is there a way of trying to match just the first 5 characters of the company name but leaving the "company" field intact?

Or is there a different way to go about this?

Thanks

Darren

Combo Box / Data Matching

Jul 8, 2005

Hello,

I am new to Access and have a question in regards to the combo box function. I have it setup I think correctly but the problem I have is how its storing the data.

What I have done is I have a Table that I created with a field that has set responses that someone can pick from when using the forms to put in data. I then have the combo box to store the answer into another field in that same table. What is happening is when a answer is selected and stored into the seperate field it only puts in the answer field a number.

IE

My Options are:
Day 1
Day 2
Day 3
Day 4

If someone to use the pull down menu and choose Day 1 it would put a 1 for their answer. I would like to see if there is a way to where if you chose Day 1 for an option it would put the name in the answer field. I hope that I am explaining this correctly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Queries :: Matching Values Without Duplicates

Oct 23, 2013

I'm looking for a way to grab values from one table that match a criteria, and append them/update them to another, but only grab one value once. Example:

Part ID ---- Profile Profile ID ---- Locations
Part1 - Profile 1 Profile 1 ---- Location 1
Part2 - Profile 1 Profile 1 ---- Location 2
Part3 - Profile 1 Profile 1 ---- Location 3

I have a database of parts that fit in certain profile sizes. Each profile size has multiple open locations. I need a query to grab a location, assign it to a part, grab a new location, assign it to the next part, etc, without assigning duplicate locations to different parts.

Right now, I'm doing this by using the First/Last aggregate functions, marking them as used, and looping it again and again until all have unique locations. Is there a better way to do this?

Queries :: Matching Two Tables With Count

Jan 20, 2014

trying to create a query in which I can select a count across two tables with matching postcodes.

Table 1 : Address database with column called 'STRIPCODE' (e.g. ME8, ME9, ME10)
Table 2 : Area Code table; each column has a list of area codes to match to the STRIPCODE column. (e.g. MEDWAY column will have all of the relevant area codes)

I would pretty much want a count of each match as below :

STRIPCODE
MEDWAY 650
BLACKPOOL 563
HULL 352

Have a few hundred areas to match and tired of going through these manually and entering counts!

Queries :: Find Data In One Table And Put In Field Of Another Table Then Update

Nov 7, 2013

I have an "order details" table that needs to populate a field called "Voucher" with data from another table called "codes". The "codes" table also has a true/false field called "allocated" because once allocated the code cannot be re-used.

I am trying to work out how to automatically allocate the next unallocated code in the "codes" table to each record in the "order details" table when that order details record has a DiscountID of "92".

Order Details Table Fields and conditions/criteria:
ID - primary key
DiscountID - only when the DiscountID = 92
Voucher - only populated when Discount ID = 92

Codes table Fields and conditions/criteria:
ID - primary key
code = text field with a code like "einstein01", "einstein02"
Allocated = False

Is there a way to put the next available code into the order details record then mark that code as allocated in the codes table. Then, move on to the next order details record that has a discountID = 92, input the next unallocated code and mark that code etc. etc.

Ideally, I would like to do this to happen via an event when the Order forms button "Close" is clicked.

Append Data To Field For Matching Fields

May 18, 2005

Hello,

I have a few tables containing different exam data for students - and a unique identifier with each. I need to add another unique identifier (which is already specified from another system).

Now, can I use the existing identifier (UPN) to automatically put in the new identifier into a new field (AdNo).

If that makes any sense at all, I will be surprised...thank you!
