Form Filter Combo - Msgbox When User Tries To Enter Data
Jun 1, 2012
I use filter Combo boxes in a lot of places so that users can filter records easily. (Not combo boxes for input).I have them labeled as filters but nonetheless users keep trying to input into them for some reason. How would I add a message box to it so that it states that 'this box is not for data entry etc'.
i want to get a msgbox to let the user enter the data in specific text boxes so they can't let it empty if not empty then do..this is my code
If Me.Client_Name.Value = "" Then MSG = MsgBox("You Should Enter The Client Name") ElseIf Me.Username.Value = "" Then MSG = MsgBox("You Should Enter The UserName") ElseIf Me.Address.Value = "" Then MSG = MsgBox("You Should Enter The Address")
[code]....
the msgboxes that tell the user this textbox is empty is not appearing what's wrong with my code
Okay, I have a unbound form with three combo boxes the selection of these three & then clicking of a filter button opens the relevant form showing records based on the selection. Great that bit working, no major feat.
Trouble is when I select three criterea in the combo boxes that no record(s)exist for and hit the filter button. A blank form appears not very friendly or appealing.
what I'm after is a simple, thats me all over by the way, of a message box appearing to tell the user no records where found.
I am trying to build a query that would be pulled by indaviduals name entered by the user of the DB. I can't remember the santax to use in the critera field.
I would like to filter a data from a table using a combo box in a form.
The field I would like to filter is called ManufacturersID in MainTable and consist of text and wildcard characters [e.g., Teledyne O&G (ODI), TE Connectivity (Deutsch), etc...], so are the combo strings which are extracted from the table ManufacturersTable. It is not filtering anything. I suspect that the wildcards and spaces are the problem. I also tried to get the combo string to a text box in the form and use it in the query with no success. Additionally, I also tried Like [Forms]![FormName]![textbox] in query criteria but still not filtering...
i have a form with various tabs and a number of fields. If I could I would just select all fields to "required=Yes" in the table design mode. But some fields should only have data entered if another field has a certain value. So, I think I just want all visible fields for this data requirement (I set some fields to visible=false if I don't want them to have a value).
So far I tried to do this on click of the Submit Record button which I created using the "docmd.gotorecord, , acnewrec" statement, but I can't seem to make it work when combining it with if then msgbox statements. Plus I typed an if then statement for every required field.
Here's my code below:
Private Sub AddNewRecord_Click() On Error GoTo Err1 DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNewRec Me.Label216.Visible = False Me.CM_2A.Visible = False
In MS Access form, how can I create my own message if the user enter a value that not match with the data type of a field in underlying table? Thanks a lot!
I have a form that a user fill out to populate fields in my database...how can I make it so that user MUST fill in certain fields before they are allowed to save data?
I need to stop users from taking shortcuts when entering data, and skipping a lot of fields. So i would like to be able to specify the minimum fields, and an error message must show when they try save incorrectly to alert them to this.
I need to be able to restrict users enter a value in the text box (on Form B) called "FTE Assigned" if Dsum of a field called "FTE Allocated" in another form A is less than what is going to be sum of FTE Assigned after the value is entered.
Both these forms are used by users to enter data in the 2 separate tables which are linked together through a join.
Master table - having FTE Allocated values and secondary table having FTE Assigned values.
Basically a message box would do if Dsum (of FTE used) is coming out higher than FTE allocated.
I have given an example in the attached excel spread sheet with a few comments at the head of each column.
1. I want to confirm that my best modelling approach for this kind of information is a series of 1 to many relationships linking the attributes in columns A->D?
2. In the example given an environmental rating is given to each make/model of car based on each combination of attributes A-->D. How would this work in terms of user form design to enter the necessary information? in order to assign an environmental rating?
How can I make certain my user enters records on a subform before attempting to save the main form? Right now they can completely ignore the subform before saving the record. The Main form has business address, etc. on it. the subform is bound to a join table that lists the multiple categories, subcategories and sector the business is listed in for a directory.
I already have my fields set to required at the table level in the join table, and have some existing VBA in both my subform (to update edited date) and my form (to validate empty records where a certain condition is met) but that's not the issue...
How do I focus the user to enter a record on the subform to the point where they are forced to enter something and complete the subform before the record is updated.
Hi can anyone help me. I need to create a form filter that will allow a user to enter an amount into a text box and then run the filter to match the amount entered. I have tried creating a macro that will execute this but it wont work. any ideas?
I have a table field where Null is not allowed, how do I use a user freindly message to tell the user to add data to this field. When a user tries to leave the field Null (ie by tabbing out), they get a message, "tried to assign NUl value to vaiarble which is not variant datatype.
What I want to appear is more like "Please enter a name" or some other custom message.
Any ideas - I have tried before anfd aftyer update events and vaidation rule on the form field of Not Null, but the underlying message always appears first.
I have seen a few articles here and there on using a combo box to filter records in a sub-form and to filter records in another combo box, but I am not getting anywhere. I hope someone can belp
Exercise 1
For this exercise, I have the following tables:
tblClients containing client names tblProjects containing some project details
I want to set up a simple form, so that the user can select a client name from a combo box on the main form which filters the project detail records in the Projects sub-form. Once the user enters project details, I want this info as well as the selected ClientID to be fed back to tblProjects.
Exercise 2
I have the following tables:
tblProjects as above tblWorkstream containiig names of workstreams and some other details.
Every project has one or more workstreams
I have a form where users will enter hours worked on each workstream. They will first select Project from a combo box on the main form. This should then filter records to be displayed in the Workstream Combo box, before they can then enter hours.
Please let me know if you need me to explain any part of this better.
Thanks in advance.
ps. I am a novice, so I'm hoping to do the above using default MS stuff, not with complex programming!!!
I am pretty new at this so please bear with me  (like that isn't said a thousand times!). I am creating a small database to track task data (manpower tracking basically) where I have the following fields:
Customer Functional Group Task Status Task Name Task Description WO # Funded Hours Notes
I would like to create a combo box where the user can select the customer (I have 124 records in total, 15 unique customer names) and all tasks relating to that customer are filtered directly in the Form by clicking a single button to do the filter.
I don't want to create dozens of tables and forms to flip through and such (users need it as simple as possible). I have created queries but the only way I have successfully filtered each customer is via buttons...but 15 buttons to filter each individual customer is a pain in the butt, so any help would be REALLY appreciated.
Please let me know if I haven't explained this clearly enough! :)
I'm creating a database about Vets and I need to make a button on my menu form that will open something like message box that will allow me to type in something (in my case Customer ID) which will then apply the filter on the customer form and allow me to do edits. I have only done the macro that will open the customer form but can't figure out how to do the filter part.
I have a report that has a link to open a a form "ProjectDetailsActive" to a specific record ID from the report. It works.
I have 3 subsets of users who have restricted access to the form "Project Details Active". By that I mean that when they open this form, it hides and rearranges some tabs, and disables certain controls. If a user from one of these 3 subsets tries to open the link to a specific record in the form, it does not work. The form opens to the first record available instead of the selected record. This is only a problem for these 3 user groups. For users who do not fall into these 3 groups, the filter works.
This is the only code in the form that does the restriction, but I don't know where the process is going wrong.
Code: Private Sub Form_Current() LoadBudgetPage CancelRsn.Enabled = False 'detect number of line items for current project Me.lblOrderCount.Caption = GetNumRecords & " line items for this project."
Hope someone can help with this one - I have searched the Forum and cannot find any reference to this problem. I have a form which was originally based on a query linking 2 tables - data entry into the form worked fine. I then needed to add another field to the form from another table so I added the 3 table to my query, linked the table and then added the required field to my form and now the form will not allow me to enter or change data in any of the fields. I have checked relationships and they all seem to be OK. I have also tried creating a new query based on the original query and added the new table to that in case there was an issue with the first join, added my new table to this query and then based the form on this new query but the problem stills persists. Is there a limit to how many tables/queries a form can be linked to? Any help would be appresicated.
I am doing my internship now and am new to vba and excel. I need help with the following.
I need to create a form which allows the user to enter records into a table. The fields for this table is [product type], [Reasons] and [Breaks]. However for each [product type] there is a specific list of [reasons] and [breaks]. I need to reflect this onto the form using drop down lists or list box. That is if the user selects [product 1], the associated [reasons] and [breaks] will populate the other 2 list box. And then the user will click the update button to insert a new record into the table.
Can somebody help me out here? Thanks so much in advance.
I was able to enter data into my form but I made a few design tweaks and added another table into the form and now, in form view, I''m unable to enter data into any field.
I have two tables. The first contains details of a budget holders money allocation for a given period, and the other tracks their spend on products over that period. How can I generate a query to calculate the total running spend for each user from the "budget spend table" that will be written into the users record in the "budget allocation table".
My aim is to show details of budget allocation, total spend to date and remaining budget for each user in an Order form / report.
Can anyone please advise me on how to do this or suggest another way of doing it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have a combo box that get its values from another table the problem i am having is when a user don't see the info they have in the combo box then enter the new data into the combo box field but it don't update my table with the entered values. How can i fix this to update my table if the user add new data in the combo box field.
I have a make couple of Forms and couple of tables.
My problem is how to I connect the form to the table, so it will store entered data from the form to the table. There are about 2-4 places where the user can enter data into the Form and it should be stored to a table. I made 5 forms and 5 tables, where the user fills out the first form and clicks next and next form opens and so on.
If possibly I would like to skip all the coding that can be used.
it is zip file unable to get the size lower yet minimal amount in database I have 2 tables and one form when I create an query on the form the form then becomes that I cannot enter data in it or edit etc
I created a form that allows users to enter data into the fields and populates the table. But can I have it do that and populate instead of one table, two tables?
