Form Cell Won't Accept Data

Oct 24, 2012

I have a form that is based on a query that returns all the students taught by an indidual faculty member. There are two text boxes which I have added to the form bound to a table used in the query. However when I try to add data (attendance data) is doesn't accept it and simply "pings" each time I try.

Form Won't Accept New Data

Mar 25, 2005

I have created a form based on a query that joins two tables. When I run the form, I am able to input new data into all fields that are from one of the two tables, but it won't accept new data into the second table. I don't get an error message that might help me identify the problem. The join between the tables is of the "include all records from Table A and only those records from Table B where the joined fields are equal."

Can anyone suggest where my problem might lie? Thanks!

Field Too Small To Accept Data

Dec 2, 2014

I am trying to insert data into a table through a combo on a form. Originally, I had the text field size set at 15 characters, but the data I wanted to enter changed to 25 characters in length, so I changed the field size to 25. I then got the following message:

"The field is too small to accept the amount of data you attempted to add. Try inserting or pasting less data."I increased the size, but still got the message. I even took the size right up to 100, but still got the message!

The Field Is Too Small To Accept The Amount Of Data You Attempted To Add...?

Nov 16, 2006

All,
I have inheirited a database which I am attempting to query via an SQL statement:

"SELECT * FROM MYTABLE ORDER BY SheetNumber;"

This query works fine under Access but when executed thru ADO 2.5 / Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 from VB6 it reports the following error ("2147217833"):

"The field is too small to accept the amount of data you attempted to add. Try inserting or pasting less data."

First things first, I'm not trying to add/insert/paste any data (see SQL statement above). Secondly, when I remove "ORDER BY SheetNumber" from the SQL statement the error does not occur. I need to retain the ability to sort and would be grateful for any help/suggestions.

For your reference SheetNumber is defined as a 20 char Text field in Access.

Thanks in advance,

Rob Black.

General :: Drop Down Box - Field Is Too Small To Accept Amount Of Data

Sep 17, 2014

I currently have a drop down box with four options in there and the options are:

Low
Minimum
Medium
High

However when i change the options in the table to:

Low
Moderate
Significant
High

it comes up with the error message: the field is too small the accept the amount of data you attemtpted to add. Try inserting or pasting less data.

I do not understand what is wrong with the second option of words? The maximum for characters is set to 255 so i am not sure why it is coming up with that error message.

Exporting Query To Text File - Too Small To Accept The Amount Of Data ... HELP!! WHY?

Mar 30, 2006

Hi folks,
I have a query that returns about 3500 records (and runs very well I have to say). the issue comes when I attempt to export that queries results to a comma seperated text file. It gives me the message that the field is too small to accept the amount of data..bla bla bla... I've looked this up and it mentions stuff about memo fields and issues with that, but I don't have any memo fields in any of the tables that this is pulling information from. Does anyone have a clue why this would be happening...please help..this is urgent.

Thanks - J

Error 3163: The Field Is Too Small To Accept The Amount Of Data You're Tryng To Add

Apr 10, 2008

I have the following query, which runs perfectly:

I get the error message "The field is too small to accept the amount of data you are trying to add. try inserting or pasting less data." I'm not attempting to run an insert or update query.

Access Help lives up to expectations by just repeating the error message, and the posts I can find on the forum which mention this error all seem to include something about a maximum of 254 characters in a field. None of mine are anywhere near that amount.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

I thought to edit the filter to [Primary Account]=102

However, after I save everything and go back to form view, the filter reverts to the original.

Combining Data Into One Cell Only IF Data Exists

May 15, 2013

I currently have an access database for tracking company assets and performing maintenance tasks on them.We also have a number of Stores Stock Items that are controlled under a separate finance package.We currently have forms that create individually numbered "Job Cards" in the Job Cards Table..we input the data and manually type into a Text Box the we have used 'X' number of Store Stock 'Item Y'

I have then use a query to export the data i need (Job number, dates, location and Store Stock Items).But I have to manually re-construct the data and items into separate lines in an excel sheet for a paste operation into the finance package (lots of typing of 16 digit stock codes)

What i want is to use a second table (linked via the "Job Card#" key).It will be called "Stock Items" which has a separate field for each of our stock items.the user then just opens second form while creating the job that immediately creates a new record.The user then simply has to put the number of each item used in the relevant text box on the form and close.

example of datasheet view
Job# __ ItemX __ ItemY
2417_____3_______7

Now, I have all of that working as I want, But i nee to be able to combine the data from each field into a single field (either in access or excel).What I want to see is a field containing 3x ItemX, 7x ItemY, etc

if there are none of one or more items, I don't want anything displayed for that item (blank space is ok)I have 30 or more stock items, so there will be 30 or more columns in the table. the actual data stored in the table is simply the quantity of each item used.

this data is used twofold,on export to Excel I can split the data into new cells and it's used on a despatch note that is returned with the item so the end user can see the items that were used in the repair.So it needs to be done upon saving the record, record by record.

Forms :: Get Main Form To Accept Changes Made To Underlying Subform?

Sep 24, 2014

I'm trying to resolve a problem with a form displayed as follows

MainForm
-->SubForm1 embedded in main form
--->SubForm2 embedded in SubForm1

When I edit subform2, then return to the mainform and edit a field on the mainform, I get an error.

'The data has been changed. Another user edited this record.... Re-edit the record.'

My understanding to resolve this is to do a requery. So I added:

Me.Parent.Requery
Me.Parent.Parent.Requery

as part of the LostFocus event for subform2. However, I now get a Write Conflict error when returning to a field in the main form. I get a dialog box with the option to Copy to Clipboard or Drop Changes. I can select Drop Changes and it will let me edit the main form afterwards.

This is Access 2010 over SQL. how to get the main form to accept the changes made to the underlying subform?

I wanted the subform to show 7 days /lines starting from Sunday to Saturday of current week and dating the text "Timein" accordingly. When employee enteres an entry on the 7th Line, it should give them a new 7 lines for the new week to begin.

The Actual Data, Not The Record Cell Reference

Oct 23, 2007

I have entered one entry in to the database with the correct values (this is record 6) and everytime I enter a new record, the data is the same (I'm using a drop down list) it will automatically appear in the box. But when I goto the table that the data is stored in, each field just has the reference to the first record that the data came from.

Looks a bit like this:

ID Server Name Pattern Engine Program
6 LN1HOME 4.735.00 8.500-1002 5.58.0.1185
7 LN1WORK2 6 6 6

Is there a way of seeing the origonal data in those fields other than the Record ID Number as a reference. :confused:

I know its a lame question, Im just is a learning process at the moment.

thanks in advance.

Watch the below tables.

I have a large ACCESS list as per the left one and I would like to make it as per right.

The problem is that I want to concatenate the "invoices" in one record separated with a coma , .

This is the only way I can compact the long list into a short one and make it comprehensible.

The invoices , in one cell, very rarely are more than 4 or 5 items.

So room for 6 is just perfect.

Modules & VBA :: Trimming White-space After Pulling Data From Excel Cell?

Apr 15, 2014

I've got a piece of VBA scripting which runs as an event linked to a button on my MS Access form.

I maintain a database of members of staff at my organisation. It's pretty outdated...

I'm basically wanting to pull in their updated data (extracted from on our payroll system) from a spreadsheet, into a form, when clicking a button on a particular person's record.

This is what I have so far.

Code:
start = Forms!frm_main2!txt_start_row.Value - 1
conv = DDEInitiate("EXCEL", "Staff List.xlsx")
cell_employee_number = "R" & start & "C1"
cell_surname = "R" & start & "C2"

[Code] ....

The function "CStr(DDERequest())" converts the cell number into the readable data, however I seem to have whitespace below the value.

What would I need to do to strip out this whitespace? Would I use strtrim? If so, I am unsure of the syntax... how would I incorporate strtrim into the above?

Forms :: Empty Cell That Won't Go Away On A Form

(Access 2013). I deleted an old text box cell on a form and then I created a Combo Box from the design controls and it worked, but underneath it, the old label of the text box is still there, except now it's just described in the properties as an 'empty cell'. It still has the old text description showing on the form, but there is no caption field in the F4 properties.

I've tried everything I can think of to get rid of it, including closing the database and running a repair, but nothing works. I can select it, but I can't delete it or move it and I can't click into it to create a new label, hovering over it just produces the 'selected' cross hairs.
