Form Should Only Submit If Number Of Entries In Table Field Is Less Than 3?
May 29, 2014
I have a form (called User_Input)with 2 text boxes, 5 combo boxes and a Submit button, which is bound to a table (called Submssion table) i.e the form submits its entries into the table called Submission.
I want the submit button on the form to work based on this condition:
1. Check current submission of four fields (corresponding to entries from 4 out of the 5 combo boxes on the form) in the table and confirm if the current selection on the form already occurs in the table up to two times. If this is the case, the Message Box should pop up on the form informing user to make another selection as maximum number of entries for that particular selection is already in the Submission table.
2. The checks for the four fields will be done simultaneously as the selection will be done together on the same form.
3. However, if the entries on the Submission table is not up to 2, the entries should be saved to the table and Messagebox should display "Thank you for your Submission"
I need to use Macros for this being a web database which will be published using Sharepoint and VB is incompatible with the web database.
I'm having a horrible time trying to get this to work. Basically, I have a database which has multiple tables. All of my tables are being generated with a CREATE TABLE statement. What I would like to do is add a validation rule or something else upon creation so that only X number of entries can be entered into the table.
Initially, I just added a rule that said id<5 or whatever manually to the table in order to restrict the number of entries, but I can't figure out how to do this automatically in my SQL statement or Visual basic. I want to be able to have this check added upon table creation. Surely what I'm doing must be possible.
Am I going about it the wrong way? Any Help would be appreciated. Thanks!
For my database the business has Clients who they conduct Needs Assessments for, but they only conduct 3 needs assessments. I have a Needs Assessment table with Client ID as the foreign key. how I can limit the number of times a Client ID shows up in the foreign key field to three?
My problem is the following: when I receive say 5 computers in a purchase form, I want to register the serial number of each of them in another form, bound to another table. If I receive 2 units in the purchase form, my user should only be able to input 2 records in the serial form (a continuous form), if we receive 3, then only 3 records,I cannot quite figure out how to build this second (serial number registration form), so that it refuses input after the correct number has been reached.
I know many are opposed to multi-valued fields, but in this case it works out nicely for my purposes.. I pick a couple things from a table to put into a field in a separate table via multi-value lookup, and when I hit ok, nothing happens. Literally. Tried the enter button, tried a mess of different keyboard mashing, and nothing. URL....

Before i forget: Sorry about my three identical posts before :-(
Here is the thing: I've attached a picture of one of my forms (on a very early stage). I want to save the inputs into a table1 containing all the coworkers. I want to write the value 'X' into the column selected in the drop-down menu. But only at the coworkers whose numbers are entered into the textboxes 1-6.
I currently have a form with textboxes and 2 combo boxes. I have a submit button at the bottom of the page and would like this to take all the infomation from the form and add to a master table.
I was hoping to be able to create a pop up message to say "This item has been added to the database"

I have a form, that has some text fields and a couple calendars for the user to select the dates from.
What I would like to happen is, after the user enteres the data, and they hit submit. I want the form to go back to a new entry, but it's not quite doing this.
The data they type in dissapears after submit, but the calendars seem to hold whatever date they used. And when they try and enter another entry, they can't select the same date as before. They have to hit a different date first, before it allows them to re-enter the same day.
Anyone know why? Is there a way to make the form refresh, or reload after they hit submit? So it will allow them to enter something for the same day?
I have a form which is used in the Data Entry mode. I have a button on it called SUBMIT which closes the form. Of course in actual fact, as soon as data is entered on the form, it goes into the relevant tables, even if the form is closed without using the SUBMIT button.
I want the SUBMIT button to actually work like a submit button, so that no data entered in the form is actually entered into the underlying queries or tables UNLESS the SUBMIT button is clicked. Is it possible to do this?
Alternatively, if there could be a MACRO or something so that if the form is closed in any other way, the data just entered is deleted.
I am using Access 2002 database with ASP.NET(VB). I usually try to get something working in the access 2002 GUI 1st and I am having trouble with creating the code to require that a field entry be forced to be another exisiting entry in another table. For Example:
UNIT_TABLE has fields UNIT_ID(key), and UNIT_NAME having values of: 1 Tigers 2 Bears 3 Sparrows
BATTLES_TABLE has fields BATTLES_ID(key), ATTACKER_MAIN, and DEFENDER_MAIN
I want the ATTACKER_MAIN and DEFENDER_MAIN choices to ONLY be members from UNIT_TABLE.UNIT_NAME
I set up a combobox and lookup in BATTLES_TABLE as follows: SELECT UNIT_TABLE.UNIT_NAME FROM UNIT_TABLE ORDER BY UNIT_TABLE.UNIT_NAME;
this OFFERS the CHOICE of any of the 3 clans (ie Tigers, Bears, Sparrows)
but I cannot not FORCE the USE of these....because the end user can option to enter in anything else.(which is not wanted).
How do I add SQL to the LOOKUP such that... the user can ONLY choose to enter text that EXACTLY matches an Already existing entry in the UNIT_NAME field?
I tried to enter a validation rule: [ATTACKER_MAIN] In ([UNIT_TABLE.UNIT_NAME])
I get an error that the field 'UNIT_TABLE.UNIT_NAME' does not exist.
Thanks for any help with this validation problem. HKP_MACK
I have been creating an inventory control system for my small business. I am looking for a code that will generate to another form. So for example if I take out 4 aprons from the first row by hitting the '-1' button 4 times leaving 46 in total how do I generate the information from one form to another by hitting that submit button.
My other form shows Product ID, Date Taken, Product Description, Employee who has taken it, Amount Taken, and Total left in inventory. I need the correct information to show accordingly in the Inventory control form.
Anyone know how to create a combo box that has unique month and year entries from a table (month in one column and year in another - i.e. 2 columns)?
I've been able to get the textbox of the combobox to output the correct format using a custom format but it does not affect the combobox data. Also, I'm not sure how to separate this by two columns...
I'd be very thankful if someone can please help me with this problem.
I have 1 Table. This Table is imported and contains data from Excel. It also contains fields I added manually. There is about 20 imported fields (full of data) and about 100 manually added fields.
Then I made a Query of this table. I made some calculations in this Query.
I then created a Form based on the Query. I then made a Combo Box. This Combo Box selects a customer, and then updates the other fields (the ones I imported from Excel) depending on the customer I selected.
So now what I want to do is this: I want the fields (updated from the query) and newly entered data to save to another newly-created table. Can someone please help me with this? Any ideas?
I'll start by saying that I'm not sure which sub-forum to choose, as my question(s) covers several areas, so I have tried with this one first.
I'm currently making a database, which among other things contains a 'Port of Call list' table. I have a form, where I can add data to this table, meaning, that whenever a vessel has left its port, user can update following: Port name, security level, arrival date and departure date.
What I need is two things (it might be more or less the same):
1. When user click a "Generate" button on a form, the 10 latest port calls from the table, should be shown. I'm not sure what kind of control is the best to should the list on the form. Code is also needed.
2. I would also need to be able to print the list. It should be part of a report. Again which controls/which code to be used is needed.
I hope that someone are able to assist, as I have no clue what to do.
i am trying to show the total number of records that are in a table.
there are currently 8 entries in the table 'applications'
now i would like to show this on a tabcontrol in a form. I have been told to use Dcount. I have read about this and tried this on my form but unfortunately its not working.
Can anyone show me an example of how i would do this.
I have a subformClientOffers on my frmAllProperties. On the subformClientOffers is a field called Outside Agents. This field allows for multiple values to be selected.
The subfrmClientOffers is in datasheet view.
While the field Outside Agents DOES allow me to select more than one, they post in the field one after another:
Ken Shaw, John Doe, Jane Doe, Harlan Bestlyn
Therefore, the datasheet view of the subformClientOffers causes the field Outside Agents to get very long, much too long to view without scrolling. My client wishes for everything on the frmAllProperties to be viewable without scrolling.
Is there anyway, to cause the field Outside Agents to place a return between each selected name (sort of a wrap text kind of thing)?
One thing I might mention is that the field is a drop down field from tblOutsideAgents. The table itself has First Name and Last Name, but I concatenated that into Fullname on the form, so that when the user opens the drop down they see the entire name. I don't know if that would have any effect on making the 'return' thing work or not.
I can't use this field as a subdatasheet because I already have one subdatasheet attached to the subform to show multiple notes on each Client Offer.
I have this database with the purpose to storage all the tasks that are done in my team. I have a table named Tasks with all their fields. Now, I would like to set a more user friendly way for clients to update this table. I have created another table with a list of most common tasks, so when a client wants to add their tasks list they can choose one of this tasks and add it to the list. I had created a form with multiple items that contains the common tasks and next to each task a button that adds the information they choose into the table "Tasks". This works just fine. However, I would like to add a single button at the top to add all the tasks instead of having to choose one after one.
The "Add All tasks" button has this code:
Private Sub Command79_Click() Dim valSelect As Variant, MyDB As DAO.Database, MyRS As DAO.Recordset Set MyDB = CurrentDb() Set MyRS = MyDB.OpenRecordset("Tasks", dbOpenDynaset)
In the current db there are some tables and queries, forms designed around them
With one table Test http://members.optusnet.com.au/~lukechang/access/table_d.JPG
That has 3 records in them http://members.optusnet.com.au/~lukechang/access/table.JPG
Just won't show in form anymore, at this stage http://members.optusnet.com.au/~lukechang/access/form.JPG
The Form was working previously. This is the second time this problem has came up, I thought it would go away if I made a new form and pasted all the controls and codes. It indeed went away for a while until this problem hit me again...
This db is in Access 2000 format and designed using Access 2003
I would appreciate if anyone is willing to point me to the right directions, many many thanks in advance
I have a login form. 2 spots for users to input and ID and their name. I want to do error checking to see the user inputs a wrong name or wrong id with their corresponding name or ID. For example, I don't want User A to be able to login with User B's name. If User A inputs their ID and inputs User B's name, I want to show an error message stating the their is a mismatch of credentials. Here is my code
Private Sub Command12_Click() Dim rs As DAO.Recordset Dim txtID As Variant txtID = Forms![LoginForm2]![txtEmployeeID] txtName = Forms![LoginForm2]![Text13] Set rs = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("SELECT * FROM CoachTable WHERE EmployeeID = '" & txtID & "'", dbOpenDynaset)
I have quite an extensive form linked to a table. When I add new columns to the table I seem to have a problem getting the form to read the data.I have just added a numerical column to the table and added a text box on the form that is bound to it. When I try to pull up the value using VBA it is blank, even though an entry is visible on the form. I have set the text box to general number and the entry shows in the actual table. When typing in the entry into VBA it capitalises where required so it must be registering the table entry. However the value it pulls remains blank.
I'm fairly new to access and have been tasked with fixing a database that to my knowledge is built incorrectly but due to budget constraints and the time it would take to build a new one, we have to stick with this one. Here's my problem, in the database is a form that we use to create new entries in a table but when I try to create a new entry through the form, it creates multiple entries in the table with the rest of the data split between all the new table entries. Is this something that is caused by us moving over to the most current version of Access? Is there a way to fix this problem given the software we are using? At one point I had recreated this table because we had been having issues with other aspects of the database (security deposits were not being updated when entered through this form).
I have setup a simple access database consisting of 3 tables
Volunteer Id (PK) Name
Job Id (PK) JobName
Link Id (PK) VolunteerId (FK) JobId (FK)
There is a one to many relationship between Volunteer and Link and a many to one between Link and Job
I want to create a form from which I'll select a Volunteer Name and then choose a JobName from a list box of options and have it create an entry in link with the id of the volunteer selected and the id of the job selected
So let's say there are 5 entries currently in the Job Table.. let's call the JobNames A,B,C,D and E.
In my form I select my name from the list (sourced from volunteer.Name) and then select B from the dropdown. My desired result would be a single entry gets created in Link with VolunteerId = 1 (representing me) and JobId = 2 representing the selection of B. Problem that I am having is that after I select B in the dropdown it creates a new record for B in Job and the Link table gets updated with that JobId as opposed to simply using the one that was already in the table.
I am baffled again. I need to print a report that can count the number of entries in a database or query. Basically I am looking for the equivalent of the countA function in Excel. All advice is welcome.
