Form To Insert Image Into OLE Object Field
Oct 4, 2007
Hello,
I have a access table with a OLE Object field that is storing a small signature .bmp image. I have a form that loads that image into a bound object frame. I made a command button that lets you choose a new .bmp image and it then loads the new image into the bound object frame. I am them doing update query on a save button that then save the new image into the table. The form works great. You can pick any .bmp and it shows up good in the bound object frame. When I click the save button and it runs the update query it run it 8 of 10 times fine. Problem is when it does run it the images gets inserted into the table and its destorted. Like its all static or have of the image turns black. Sometime when I run the same update query with out any code changes I get a access error that shuts down access or it inserts the image into the table and when you click on the cell to view it, it says the OLE data is not valid.
So Im not sure if the method Im using is ok or if there is a better way. I do need to store these images in the table tho. Below is the code im using.
code that loads new image picked into bound object frame
Code: Dim MyFolder As String Dim MyExt As String Dim MyPath As String Dim MyFile As String Dim strCriteria As String MyPath = vrtSelectedItem'vrtSelectedItem is the path to the image from the file picker Me.OLE_Sig.Enabled = True Me.OLE_Sig.Locked = False OLEPath = MyPath Me.OLE_Sig.OLETypeAllowed = acOLEEmbedded Me.OLE_Sig.SourceDoc = OLEPath Me.OLE_Sig.Action = acOLECreateEmbed Me.button_load_sig.SetFocus Me.OLE_Sig.Enabled = False Me.OLE_Sig.Locked = True
Then I run this for the save command
Code:DoCmd.SetWarnings FalseDoCmd.OpenQuery "qry_user_edit_update"DoCmd.SetWarnings True
This is the query to save the image.
Code:UPDATE tbl_Users SET tbl_Users.Signer_Sig = [forms]![frm_admin_users_edit]![OLE_Sig]WHERE (((tbl_Users.User_ID)=[forms]![frm_admin_users_edit]![field_userid_info]));
Any help would be great.... Been trying everything and no luck.

My Db has 1 table with 4 columns named ID, First_name, Last_name and Photo.
ID is a counter and primary key.
First+last names are text fields.
Photo is an Ole object.
I display everything in a form that is controlled by a combo box. The combo box displays the first name and when I chage the first name with this box the last name changes too. I use this code together with the event "after update"
Code:Private Sub Combo_First_name_AfterUpdate()Me.txt_last_name.Value = Me.Combo_first_name.Column(2)
Everything works perfectly fine (txt_last_name changes according to the first name in the combo box), except that the photo of the person doesn't change. Nothing happens to the photo when changing value in the combo box or it just displays a message box with an error messages when I have tried to get it to work.
I want the ole object picture to change too, when changing the first name in the combo box.
I hope you can help me out here.

Hello,
Although, I have seen many threads in regards to displaying images in forms, I have not been able to find exactly what I'm looking for.
The solution I am looking for is to give the user the ability to browse for an image, select it and insert it into the form. From reading these forums and playing around with Access, one thign I am sure about is that I want to link the image (I couldn't believe how bloated access gets when embedding an image).
I thought of a great solution for linking images, but I have no idea how to achieve this. (This solution, in my opinion would be great not just for images, but for all kind of objects).
Since I am linking the image, I would like to be able to store the image in a "private database" folder, that way the image will not be tempered with. It is my understanding that if I wanted to do that, I would have to first place the images in that folder and then actualy insert them into the form. This seems kind of pointless to me, since it will create extra work for the user.
So basically what I would like to do in pseudo code is:
On Click, browse for image
on image select, save image to \database image folder
link image to \data image folder
display image in form
I think this would work really well for all kinds of document management (not just images) allowing the users to attach pdfs/images/documents to records with out worrying where they are stored, and knowing they will not be tempered with (I'm planning to place the folder somewhere on the server)]
Any ways, any help woudl be greatly appreciated, and if I do manage to come up with a solution on my own, I will be sure to post it here.

I have a database that I completely redeveloped from scratch. On one form I have 4 OLE Objects so that people can attach links to files. In the old database, you just had to right-click and the insert object box came up...but that isn't working in the new one. I can't remember if it was something that I set or if there is something different about Access 2003 that doesn't allow that. I can't find anything on the subject. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am using an unbound object frame to display an .png image file which is set in vba.
The image is an excel chart saved as a .png
The problem I have however is that the image I save from Excel is great quality, and is pretty tack sharp, but when I display the same file in the unbound object frame in access, it is not nearly as sharp.
I am setting the picture property of the control as:
ubImageUserChart = "c: empmyChart.png"
It displays alright, but is just a bit fuzzy - still quite legible, but it is a complex graph with a lot going on - has regressions and formulas etc on the graph, and they need to be very clear.
BTW - the unbound frame is the same size as the Excel chart which gets saved as a .png file. If I tile the images (Access unbound frame and original file in picassa preview) side by side - they are identical - size, orientation etc.
It is not practical for me to try and do the chart natively in access as it is way to complex. I am using access vba to drive an excel session to do all the statistical yack work and chart rendering, then displaying a png image of the resulting chart in an unbound object frame in access.

Quick overview so you understand: I have two databases, one which contains form(s) that allow users to enter in legal type cases. It has a subform in which has four fields to insert OLE objects. This form draws its data from a linked table in a database called Attachments. Not all cases have 'attachments' & the attachments are associated to cases by case number.
Anyway, my delima is - I am trying to make a less 'clunky' way for the end-user to insert objects to the cases. Currently, they can click on a button that will open the Insert Object box. It isn't that complex for a developer to use, but the regular end user, it is quite complex. Also, once an object has been inserted, it renames it. (FYI: These objects are being imported & not linked) When inserting the object, you can decide you want it to be an icon shown in the OLE field & thus you can name it there. But the problem is, if you double-click to open the document it gives it a new name that is associated with the form name. It does not retain the original file name. Does anyone know of a way for it to retain the original file name??
That is my 'biggest' problem here since these files maybe updated & even emailed - Being that they are legal documents, it would be good that they retain the name. I have just begun to use OLE objects fields so I am very, very new to this.

I know that Access can display images, I have seen it done. I am using Access 2013. I am trying to display a photo in a form field. In the underlying table I have tried using attachment and OLE Object data types and I couldn't get the picture to display with either.

Hi guys,
I'm in desperate need of help and want to know if it is possible to load an image on a form once a hyper link is created.
For example, I have a form with a hyper link to an image created, currently, when you click on the hyperlink, it opens the picture in the browser, can you change it so that it loads teh image embedded into the form instead of loading it into a browser?
If so, how?
Thanks

Hi all,
I have added an OLE WordPad object to a form. However, when I use the form, I cannot select/give the object focus to activate it. Even if I right click the object, it give me the correct popup menu. :confused:
I am using this object as I am having troubles with Memo fields. I use a form to update records, one field of which must be greater than 255 characters long. When I press my update button (it just runs some code to turn off warnings, run two simple update queries and the turn the warnings back on) the update process seems to complete. However, if I go to the table/refresh the form contents, only the first 512 characters are displayed and the last few are strange system characters.:confused: This occurs no matter what I do. I was tole that copy/paste operations can mess memo fields up, but I tested this by using a fresh field and typing everything in. Hence I am now trying the OLE object to get around this problem. :confused:
Any ideas peeps??
Cheers,
Matt

This is really hard to explain, but basically I'm trying to use a combo box that has a control source different than it's record source to update another field on the record source. For example, the combo box pulls it's options from a table called "NameList" and when you select an option from the combo box it updates a table called "Results". On this form there are form fields that are bound to the "Results" table. What I want to happen is, when I make a certain selection from the combo box, I want one of the fields bound to "Results" to automatically display text from a different table. Is this even possible? If this is a horrible explanation, please let me know. I need serious help on this one, I've been working on this for a day and a half now. If anyone has any ideas on how to do it a different way, please make suggestions. Thanks in advance!
- Josh :confused:
Also, another thing I forgot to mention, this may help anyone who tries to help me. This "Results" form is basically used as a log utilizing a report to display a sequence of events. I've included a screenshot for visual affect. I have censored a few things for privacy reasons.

the record is from a query where as the field is unbound, still we need to insert the values from record and this field at the same time into another table..
example: i have item master and item production table.... from joining these table i get a query which will give me item A and prod qty .. when i use this query as form datasource, the detail section has these two fields.. now i want to have an unbound field budget.. so i have the followig in detail sectin

when users enter values in budgetqty field and moves to next recod,, the system should insert into another table xyz values (itemA, production qty, budget Qty)
how to do this..which event will be good.

I have a form that I would like to update a picture on using VBA. The source of the picture path is in part a query that is not bound to the form. So far I have the following code that is pretty much working, but with a couple flaws.
Code:
Private Sub Form_Current()
LoadDefaultPicture
End Sub
Sub LoadDefaultPicture()
Dim db As DAO.Database
[Code] ....
This is working. However, when I change the record the picture flashes the current picture once and then loads the new picture. It is like it reloads the current picture then loads the new one. I'm hoping there is a way to get rid of the flash.
Also, the code fails here:
strDefaultPictureName = rs.Fields("AttachmentName")
When the query does not return a record. I can definitely fix this by adding an if statement to check for a record, but I'm kind of perplexed at why it is failing at that line. I would expect it to assign an empty string to that variable name and then fail on the next command where I try and set the ".Picture" property of the image.

From what I understand an OLE field would be able to hold a picture instead of text, correct?
Can I use an image in an OLE field as the image in a report? Here's my situation:
I have a report that we use to print an invoice that we send to clients. I want to include a scanned copy of a staff member's signature on the invoice but there are multiple staff members who would use this.
If I create a table with a Staff_Name field and an OLE field of Staff_Signature, which would hold the scanned signature image, could I use controls in a form to select which signature is included on the invoice report?
I'm not necessarily looking for how to do this right now, just if it is possible. I doubt I have time to really work on this in the immediate future, I'm just wondering if it is something I should look into.
I already have a function with multiple copies of the invoice report, each one with a different staff member's scanned signature. But that's bulky and it means that the reports and command buttons need to be changed with any staff changes. I would like to streamline this process.

Hello
I am using Access 2003(11.6355.6360) SPI
When I attempt to create a new DB - by performing Blank Database I immediately get a message 'Object Library not registered'.
If I 'OK' that box and try to create a table, I can do so - create Table in design view.
When I then try to Import external data - an excel file I get the message 'ActiveX component Can't create object'.
I have looked ob various sites for help and forum information regarding these errors but have found nothing conclusive, with specidfic regard to Access 2003.
The version has been loaded on my machine about 1 year as part pf Office Professional but this is the first time I have attempted to run Access itself.
Does any forum member have any ideas as to how this problem could be resolved.
Thank You
Rgds

I need to show an image called PAID if my hidden field Paid Date has a date in.
I thought this would be straight forward but so far nothing.
I have my images within the database itself on Access 2010, so I am not referencing any in a C drive or other location.
Code:
Private Sub Report_Current()
On Error GoTo ErrHandler
If paiddate = Date Then
Paid.Visible = True
Else
Paid.Visible = False
End If
ErrHandler:
MsgBox "Error detected, error # " & Err.Number & ", " & Err.Description, vbOKOnly, "Error"
End Sub
But with no joy.

I am currently building a database for the company I work for that is fairly similar to the Northwind Database; however it is made from scratch so hopefully some of the common problems with that database won't find their way into mine.My problem is that when I go to my Orders form, I pick a customer from the main form, which creates a record on the Orders table. When I then go to the subform to choose a product/line item, I get the error in my title ("The LinkMasterFields property setting has produced this error: 'The object doesn't contain the Automation object 'OrdersT.") as soon as a product is chosen from the drop down list.
