Forms :: Access 2007 - Binding Control To Form RecordSource With Criteria?

Nov 12, 2013

I have a form with a (large) number of controls which acts as a kind of read-only dashboard of data. The data is split across a number of tables (4, for now, but may grow) I've created a query which amalgamates all of the data from the tables into a single dataset and set that as the RecordSource (Snapshot) of the form. I now want to bind each of the controls to a particular field returned by that query.

However - I have a combobox (same form) which allows users to select a date and I need the controls to update with the relevant data for that date whenever the combobox is changed. The query already returns values for each field over a range of dates so the data is available within the form's RecordSource - I just don't know how to include the date criteria, as specified by the combobox, when binding each individual control?

Forms :: Creating Tabbed Form In Access 2007 - Control Alignment?

Mar 29, 2013

I'm creating a tabbed form in Access 2007, and in the first 3 tabs, when I dragged the field controls onto the form, they stretched to the width of the form and all stacked nicely underneath each other.

Now on the next tab they are coming out as much smaller. I don't want to stretch them to fit as I want them a uniform size and I just want to find how to get that setting back! I've been messing with the anchoring buttons to what seems like no avail!

Forms :: Use Formula In Caption Property For Page In Tab Control (Access 2007)

Oct 7, 2013

Is it possible to use a formula in the Caption property of a page in a tab control (i.e. to make it dynamic)

I have a number of tabs each with their own subform (with each subform driven by its own unique query)

I'd like the tab name to include the number of records returned by that query (so as records are added, the tab name is automatically updated with the new number)

So something along the lines of :

Page 1 (" & DCount("[ID]","[qryQuery1]") & ")"

Such that the page name appears as :

Page 1 (7)

I know I can code this programmatically but then that code has to be triggered by some event and I need the counts to be as real-time as feasibly possible rather than requiring the user to click on a control to trigger it. I was hoping by using a formula directly in the Caption property of the page, it would be dynamically updated every time a new record was added without the need to trigger an event first.

I am new to access. When I try to create a control with control wizard, it advises that it will embed a macro that will not run nor be editable in Access 2003 or prior...
What do I have to do to get a control placed that CAN be run by those...? I do not know how to write code, and am really just feeling my way thru this...thus far unsuccessfully, I might add. More on that in the Forms forum...

This is just one of a billion questions I am slowly exploring.

Thanks for any assistance.:o

Forms :: Access 2007 / Summing Columns To Populate A Form?

Aug 13, 2013

Im working in Access 2007.

So i have query based on 1 table that populates a Form. The primary key for that table is Entity ID. Therefore once the query has been run I have multiple records that i can scroll through in my form distiguished by their Entity ID.

I have a second table that has a Entity ID column, AFE Available column, and many others. The primary key for this table is called Match ID. This table contains records that have the same Entity ID.

My goal is to display on the form the Sum of the "AFE Availible" for each Entity ID. so as you scroll through the records the Entity ID is changing and you are able to see a the Specific "AFE Availible" Sum related to the current Record showing on the form.

I couldn't figure out a way to have a query based off both tables where the records are only uniquely defined by the Entity ID in Budget Info. What was happening is the query was displaying all the records that had the same Entity ID because of the AFE Spent table. That way when you scroll through the records the form shoes records with the same entity id.

Maybe im doing it all wrong and you dont need the tables attached to the same query. That would make it easier i think. So you would have two queries populating different text boxes on a form. Is that even possible?

Forms :: Multiple Different Queries As Recordsource For One Form

Apr 5, 2014

I have a query that I am using as recordsource for a form. I also have a list box that I am using to change records on the form.

My issue is I need to use the same form for similar queries. For example, I want to open the form with only "Manager1" records displayed. So I need to do a different query. I don't want to use parameters or have employees type the manager in. It needs to be just a button they click.

So my two options are - make 10 copies of the form each with their own new query recordsource for each manager, or use one form and dynamically input the recordsource before the form opens..

I want to do that -- but when I try the list box gets all screwed up. Because the list box is relying on another SELECT query to populate. I have 10 buttons each with a different recordsource query feeding into the form when I click but I get so many errors in the fields when the form opens.

Forms :: Dynamically Setting Recordsource For A Form

Mar 25, 2014

I currently have a Job Management System where the Customer Order Form displays all jobs via a main form and an order details subform. This form is used for inputting new jobs and for viewing existing jobs via links from other reports such as a job schedule or customer orders report. It is always reached via a clicking of a "New Customer Order" Button where the form is filtered to new record or via double clicking on an order number in another screen and filtered via the order number.

I am now in a position where the database is growing too large and I want to archive the data in the Orders / OrderDetails Tables into Financial Years and put them in a separate backend database. However the jobs will still need to be viewed via the customer order form in order for them to be duplicated the following year.

I have created a union query of the PreviousFY and Current Orders to allow the "search jobs by customer" query to work. This works fine, but I now need to make the record source of the Customer Order form dynamic.

I have created a CurrentFY query to feed the form if it is a current job and a PrevFY query if it's from the previous FY.

I have written code to check the OrderDate against the financial year to work out which database the job is from and set recordsource according to that result. This is currently in the OnCurrent event as I also have other code there that checks details of the order to determine if fields should be editable.

However I am finding that when I parse the order data between the forms the "new record" command or the order number is not being retained or checked. If this because I don't have a recordsource set when it opens?

I tried setting the recordsource as the currentFY on open and then do the check but that didn't work.

Forms :: Recordsource - Slow Form Load Event

Mar 9, 2013

I've got a DB, which has 3 forms ( all 'under' 3 navigation buttons/tabs ). The main form ( Client's form ) is set to show first, and currently has a recordsource of about 1350 records. I think the size of the recordsource, and the fact it 'loads' the other two forms all 'in one go', is slowing it down ( between 5 and 10 secs. to load ).

I read I should set the Visible properties of forms, not shown immediately, to false, only setting them to True in the On_Load event - when Tab is selected. Ideal I thought. However, I can't find this property in the Form's property sheet.

Forms :: Changing RecordSource Of A Form Based On Field Values?

Feb 16, 2014

I have a simple add form that will add an entry to one of two tables: Box 1-1, or Box 1-2.

They have the exact same fields. In the add form, I want the user to specify a Rack field and a Box field. Box 1-1 would be Rack 1, Box 1. Box 1-2 would be Rack 1, Box 2 (there will be more tables later, but just using two for now until I get it working).

But right now my form always adds to the table Box 1-1 - I can't get it to switch.

I've added the code I have so far below. The first part is what I'm having trouble with, the second part just uses a Submit button to add a new record - I'm just including it in case it's interfering in some way I'm not seeing. I'm running Access 2007.

Code:

Forms :: Access Form With Tab Control Pages Each With Embedded Forms

Apr 13, 2013

I have an access form with tab control pages each with embedded forms. In one page I have a list of records as a datasheet form with the record identifier field configured as a hyperlink. When I click on this it passes its value to a form field in the form in the following tab page (works without the hyperlink but its a useful way of highlighting which field to click) which is a display/edit form of the details of the individual record. The Subroutine which does this sets the focus on this field it is passing the value to on the other form and the 'On Got Focus' event in that triggers the query that fills the editor form.

When I click back on the following tab to select another record to view/edit, the identifier value of the other record is passed to the other form but the data displayed in the rest form doesn't change. I understand this is because the field with the 'On Got Focus' never lost focus and so the query function was not called. To correct this I tried adding the same function call to the 'On Change' event however this does not work (the field is a text box set to 'locked' if that is relevant).I can get the form to do a new query properly if I click on a different field in the form before going back to the list tab or (as this is removing the focus allowing the On Got Focus to work again) if I click on a button to select a different record (which just takes me back to the list form).

Is there any way I can get this to work without having to manually remove the focus from the problem field? I have tried setting its On Got Focus event to move the focus to another field after the query function call however this prevents the Setfocus line in the code in the previous form from working. Here is a snippet of my code below. This code is for the list form and passes a value to the editing form:

Private Sub SalesID_Click()
Forms!Mainform.Requery
Forms!Mainform!Sales_Admin_Form!Sales_Admin_SalesI D.Value = SalesID.Value
Forms!Mainform!Sales_Admin_Form.SetFocus
Forms!Mainform!Sales_Admin_Form!Sales_Admin_SalesI D.SetFocus

Using Forms!FormName!Control Is Null In Criteria

Sep 12, 2007

I learned the criteria on this forum
Forms!FormName!Control or Forms!FormName!Control Is Null

It enables me to leave the text box on a search form blank to return all records. This seems to work but has a very odd behaviour.

In design view, I typed the criteria for 3 fields and saved the query, but when I reopened it, the criteria added 3 NEW COLUMNS and spread over 8 ROWS (as in the image attached.)

The SQL was even unreadable:

SELECT Table1.ID, Table1.FldA, Table1.FldB, Table1.FldC
FROM Table1
WHERE (((Table1.FldA)=[Forms]![Form1]![txtA]) AND ((Table1.FldB)=[Forms]![Form1]![txtB]) AND ((Table1.FldC)=[Forms]![Form1]![txtC])) OR (((Table1.FldB)=[Forms]![Form1]![txtB]) AND ((Table1.FldC)=[Forms]![Form1]![txtC]) AND (([Forms]![Form1]![txtA]) Is Null)) OR (((Table1.FldA)=[Forms]![Form1]![txtA]) AND ((Table1.FldC)=[Forms]![Form1]![txtC]) AND (([Forms]![Form1]![txtB]) Is Null)) OR (((Table1.FldC)=[Forms]![Form1]![txtC]) AND (([Forms]![Form1]![txtA]) Is Null) AND (([Forms]![Form1]![txtB]) Is Null)) OR (((Table1.FldA)=[Forms]![Form1]![txtA]) AND ((Table1.FldB)=[Forms]![Form1]![txtB]) AND (([Forms]![Form1]![txtC]) Is Null)) OR (((Table1.FldB)=[Forms]![Form1]![txtB]) AND (([Forms]![Form1]![txtA]) Is Null) AND (([Forms]![Form1]![txtC]) Is Null)) OR (((Table1.FldA)=[Forms]![Form1]![txtA]) AND (([Forms]![Form1]![txtB]) Is Null) AND (([Forms]![Form1]![txtC]) Is Null)) OR ((([Forms]![Form1]![txtA]) Is Null) AND (([Forms]![Form1]![txtB]) Is Null) AND (([Forms]![Form1]![txtC]) Is Null));

I don't know how to add the criteria for the 4th field.

Can someone help?

Thanks

Forms :: Criteria For Text Box With Control Source?

Mar 19, 2013

My form is based on a table (SOP TBL) and has several text boxes with control sources of the records in the table. I need to add a criteria to one field (SOP Number) so that only current versions of the number show up. I have the SQL for a query that I use in another form for a combo box as shown below. What this criteria does is find the version number which is the last 2 digits of the SOP Number and displays only that record for the SOP Number in the combo box. How can I apply this code to the text box with the control source directly from the table so only the current records are displayed on the form?

Code:
In (select max([SOP Number]) from [SOP TBL] group by left([SOP Number], len([SOP Number]) - 2))

Forms :: Binding Results Of Query To Textbox Then Writing Value To Table?

May 19, 2015

Basically, I originally wanted to create a form which I can input data into Access with by using a button (I was unable to get Access to append the information from the forms to the table, so it didn't work out!). I did not want the fields on the form to be linked to a table, as then a record (and most importantly an auto-number) is created as soon as somebody starts typing. Should somebody stop typing halfway through and quit the form an autonumber will have been generated, which makes the number of "users" seem higher than it actually is. I got around this by changing the field from autonumber to number and then creating a query that selects the maximum value of ID in the table, then adds 1 to it (which is essentially the lowest unique number. I tend to call this newID).

The problem I now have is setting this to be written to the table alongside the data from the form (the rest of the fields on the form are now connected to the table, as I am no longer using an autonumber). I have tried the following: Setting the form to run the expression "[ID] = [qryMaximumUserID]![NewID] " on load. This returns the error "The object doesn't contain the Automation object 'qryMaximumUserID.' Setting the control source of the text box to be dLookup. This fills the textbox with the correct value, but then it doesn't write it to the table! Setting the default value of the field to be 0, then running an update query to update any ID of 0 (criteria "0" to the value of newID "update to: [qryMaximumUserID].[NewID]. "). However this doesn't work as whenever the query is run it asks for a parameter to be entered, rather than just taking the value from the other query. Writing a macro that is run on load to SetValue of item:[ID] to expression: [Forms]![qryMaximumUserID]![NewID]. However this returns an error "Microsoft Access cannot find the referenced form 'qryMaximumUserID' you entered in the expression.

Modules & VBA :: Using Form Control Value To Determine Query Criteria

Jan 26, 2014

I'm working on a report called Open Orders and when the database loads, it takes you to a Navigation Form. You make some selections mostly from combo boxes, then click run report which runs a query then launches the report.

I want the user to be able to click a check box called "Ready Only". If the checkbox = True, then I would like the field "Ready Pieces" in the query to have the criteria ">0". If the checkbox = false, I want that field to show all values (*).

I have no problem setting the criteria of a query field to equal that of a combo box value (Warehouse Like ([Forms]![Process Form]![Warehouse] & "*") but have problems when the criteria isn't the exact same as the value of the control.

Things I have tried to no avail: Putting a Iif statement in the query criteria: gives an error that criteria is too complex Creating an invisible text box whose value is determined by the checkbox to ">0" or "" then basing the Ready Pieces criteria equal to this....doesn't work Trying to use the DoCmd.RunSQL with my SQL code that changes via VBA when the checkbox is changed...Get an error and the SQL doesn't run
