View RepliesI have an MS Access accdb with linked SQL Server 2012 ODBC tables. I am working on a procedure to copy data from local tables to these linked tables (identical schema). I did a simple
Code:
DoCmd.RunSQL "INSERT INTO linkedTable SELECT * FROM localTable"
This works, but is very slow. Way too slow. (INSERT copies the data one record at a time).
I would like to copy the data in a bulk operation, or operations that I can execute programmatically.
Good evening,
my web site (in hosting) stores data in a SQL Server database.
Now, I've and import these data in an Access application and, of course, I've no direct access to SQL Server instance.
I thought about using Web Services. Does anybody know how to do, or has an alternate way?
I have calculated files in a form which is summimg the working hrs of each employes for a particular data.
I am able to show the same in the form but want to add this value in the table.
Is is possible to add this data from the form to the able?
I have a combo box Customer_Name on Order Form; and I want it open the Customer Form when an user insert a new customer to input all data. This seems simple at first, but problems are these:
1- whenever an user opens Customer Form on a new customer, the user would have to make the input once again (at least retype the customer's name on the field).
2- since the Customer_Name and other fields are required in the table, the Order_form would not allow the user to close it unless all field are filled properly.
Dilemma is you have to fill in the Customer_Name field before the table refresh all records and display it in the combo box on Order Form
I'm on my way on creating a simple Database for a company. This database contains several tables, one of the tables will record information about the training that had been completed by each employee. There are about ten sections of training that should be completed.
For instance, I have two tables called 'Development' and 'CSA_Lisence'. 'Development' is the table that record the information about training which containing ten checkboxes (which represent ten sections of training) and CSA_Lisence will be automatically requeried when all of the checkboxes on Development are fully checked.
Here's the step I've been worked on :
First, I made a function called 'CheckCompletion' to ensure whether all the checkboxes are checked :
Code:
Public Function CheckCompletion() As Boolean
Dim blnComplete As Boolean
Dim strCompletionSummary As String
strCompletionSummary = Basic_Inspection & Certifying_Staff & Safety_Management_System & Regulation_Part_145 & Part_M & EWIS & Fuel_Tank_Safety_Level_2 & Dangerous_Goods & Human_Factor & Basic_Supervisory_Training
[Code] ....
Second, I made a function called 'UpdateEmployee' to handles if all boxes are checked :
Code:
Public Function UpdateEmployee()
Dim emp_numb As Long
Dim emp_name As Long
Dim strsql As String
emp_numb = [Forms]![development].[employee_number].Value
[Code] ....
Then, I put this code on every checkbox's after update event (example only) :
Code:
Private Sub Basic_Inspection_AfterUpdate()
Call UpdateEmployee
End Sub
The problem is, nothing happened with the tables. However, when I managed to remove the 'If checkCompletion' condition, it worked and the 'CSA_Lisence' is requeried, but I will have ten multiple records with same contents (I just need one record per employee). I guess there's something wrong or missed in my code. Or i need to remove something?
How to update data from one table to another table using form.
I have data coming from design team in Database 1 and using form i want search data and assign the job to a person and store it in the database with his name. I have to do this because database from design team is read only.
If you want to use a "DoCmd.RunSQL "INSERT INTO" command to insert data in a table and the data to insert comes from a table and a form, could this be done in one pass?
So...writing a record wit 4 values from table1 together with a additional value from a textbox in table2 as 5 values.
Is there any possibilities to open form after INSERT INTO? I think Ms Access can't fast refresh data in the table after that, so form opens up clean:/
Code:
...
strSQL = "INSERT INTO tblZlecenia (id_zlecenia_info, DataPrzyjecia) VALUES ('" & ostateczne & "', Date())"
CurrentDb.Execute strSQL, dbFailOnError
DoCmd.OpenForm "Formularz2", WhereCondition:="ID_Zlecenia=" & ostateczne
I am relatively new to Access 2007, I am having an issue with a sub form not showing all the data from a table.
Basically I have 2 tables: Headers and Line Details, they are linked via an order number. The headers will only ever have 1 record per order number but there can be multiple records on the line details table.
I have imported the data into both tables. When I open my main form, all the data from the header file is all visable and all correct for all records. However when I look at the data in the sub form, it is only showing data for some of the records.
I have checked and the data is correctly linked, and if I change the "source object" to point directly at the table in the sub form it shows the record is there. When I point it back to my sub form it is blank.
how to be able to enter time in access form the same way as if would be an access table (1p = 1:00 PM; 1.25 = 1:25 AM etc)
View 1 Replies View RelatedHi,
I need to push data from an Access database which is getting really big really quickly to a Sql Server. The queries from the Access will still be used to query the data that will be moved to Sql Server. Can someone please suggest the best way to go about doing this.
Thanks.
Hi All,
First of Sorry, becuase I am posting off topic. I have 2 databases. One in Access and another in MS SQL Server 2000.
DTS Import Export wizard transfers the data between Access and SQL Server well. I am able to get the SQL Scripts for "Create Table", but How to get the SQL Script for "Insert Into Table ..." ?
Can any one please help me out to solve this problem? :confused:
Thanks a lot in advance,

I am rebuilding an application for a client and I have an Access table that I am using as a temporary table. Once the user is done entering information into the temporary table through a form, the user presses an update button that appends the records using an Append Query in Access to an SQL Server Table.
The following error message occurs:
"ODBC -- insert on a linked table 'linked tblname' failed.
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] Explicit value must be specified for identity column in table 'linked tblname' when IDENTITY INSERT is set to ON. (#545)
I am using a form, subform combination to record a bill with many details. The bill summary is posted into a tbl_TransactionsMain table in SQL Server using the ADO AddNew method. The PK for the tbl_TransactionsMain is then entered into the temporary table in Access. When the temporary table records are appended into tbl_TransactionDetail the error message occurs.
What is also interesting is while typing out this post I thought to test the error by manually trying to run the query. The query worked like a charm! :confused: When the orginal error occurred off of the form I tried to run the query manually and it failed. I am guessing that this might have something to do with the ODBC timeout.
I think SQL Server/ODBC connection is not liking how I have a set of records in an Access table with foreign key numbers assigned when I am attempting to append the records. I am new to SQL Server and any ideas are most appreciated! :)
I have created a code below to test whether I can run a query and retrieve a data from an SQL server table. And so far I can return the result using a messagebox. but somehow I just don't know how to use this connection to update the table inside this access file. Basically I want to use this as a front end file. then when the form is open it will automatically update the table inside this access file and load the data to the combo box as a list.
Code:
Option Compare Database
Sub LocalServerConn_Test()
Set conn = New adodb.Connection
Set rst = New adodb.Recordset
[code]....
I am trying to use SQL to run queries in our access database in order to (hopefully) speed things up. I'm trying to create code that basically takes data from one table and inserts it into another whilst doing calculations on the data.
However I can't get past this:
Code:
Private Sub Test_Click()
Dim strSQL As String
strSQL = "CREATE TABLE [TempRedAmberGreen]" & _
"AS (SELECT " & _
"[ID_CHK] String," & _
"[Red] String," & _
"[Amber] String," & _
"[Green] String)" & _
"FROM [035 - Meter Point HH Data];"
DoCmd.RunSQL strSQL
End Sub
It keeps saying "Run-time error '3292': Syntax error in field definition.
We have been using an Access (Access 2013) program where we link the program to dataviews created in sql server.
Recently we had to re-link the data views because a change had been made to them. When we relinked the data we noticed that the field type for the field used as the primary key changed from "Short Text" to "Long Text". The programmer who created the dataview from sql server said that nothing was done at that end that would have caused the change
I know how to prevent the problem from recurring. We are changing the sql server spec from VARCHAR(8000) to CHAR(20).
I have a table and a form. I need to input data in the form and click on a button to add this data into the existing table.
This is part of a bigger application which will be compiled and given away for use.
tblProduct
id = autonumber
name = text
InHand = integer
Price = float
frmNew
txtname = textbox
txtInhand = textbox
txtPrice = textbox.
I need to coy frmNew.txtname into tblProduct.name and so forth.
I would like to duplicate table from SQL Server 2000 to Access using VBA. How to programmatically establish a connection to SQL Server using VBA codes?

HI all-
I have a list of INSERT statements (SQL DML) and I wish to insert this data into an MS Access 2000 table
Unfortunately I cannot find a mechanism to accomplish this in Access. Does one exist? How can I import this data into access in a SQL format?
Thanks in advance!
I want to set my insert such that
Insert into tableA (x,y,z) = (SELECT x,y,z FROM tableB)
WHERE NOT EXISTS (select x,y FROM tableA,tableB WHERE tableA.x = tableB.x AND tableA.y = tableB.y)
Basically I want to insert data in tableA from tableB if it does not exist in tableA yet.
Access says I'm not writing an updateable query.
Is it possible to select some data in queries in the same db to a table?
Many thanks!
Inserting data from History Table LIKE "P" Type into Preventive Maintenance Table and LIKE "R" Type into Repair Table.
I don't quiet get it because it says "PM Data Update" but nothing happened. Below is the code:
Code:
Private Sub cmdUpdate_Click()
Dim strSQL
Dim dbMNT As Database

I have written a html page that posts a form to a .asp page, which in turn is supposed to write data to a MS Access database. Problem is while my html page works, and my .asp page seems to work fine as well, nothing is being saved to my database!
I'm not sure if its something wrong in my .asp page...
Code:
<%@LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" CODEPAGE="65001"%>
<% Option Explicit %>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
[code]....
or if you think there may be some configuration in my database I'm missing. Just an FYI all the database table columns take empty values.
