Forms :: Adding Value Of Combobox To Hidden Column When User Enters A New Record

Aug 14, 2013

I'm very new to access so I'm not sure about the correct way to go about this. I have a table with a 'category' column, a form which hides the category column, and a combobox to filter the category, let's say R, C, and F.

What I want accomplish is to have the value of the comobox applied to the hidden 'category' column when a user enters a new record into the form.

Is there I way I can get an instance to the record as it's being entered and modify the data using VB? Or would I have to write a sort of pop() function and have it run afterInsert and then modify it that way? Can I even alter the table using VB like this?

Forms :: Cascading Combobox - Adding Column To Table?

Aug 4, 2014

I have a form with two cascading comboboxes where the first selection is the alphabet and the second selection is a person's name. (the alphabet is a coding system but not assigned based on a person's name) I used one table based on example 2 of this website: fontstuff. com/access/acctut10.htm

What I want to do is add columns to the table such as organization, purpose, etc. then have them in the form as textboxes that update as soon as the second combo box is selected. Is this possible with just one table or do I need to go a different route?

Forms :: Prevent Duplicate Values With Alert After User Enters Duplicate Value

Dec 30, 2013

We are working on an Access (2007) database that is on a SharePoint Site (2007).

Currently the form is operational, but there is one last thing that would be nice to have.

The table is "Updated Headcount" which contains "EMP_ID" which are unique numbers stored as text.

In the event a new employee is entered in the system by another user on this site we would like to prevent any duplicate "EMPID"s from being entered and saved on the SharePoint, we would also like to alert the user and prevent the data from being saved.

All data is currently bound, so once the user makes a change it is made, no submit button is required.

We are running into some difficulties in doing a dlookup from the value entered and comparing to a column in the table.

TABLE - UPDATED HEADCOUNT
COLUMN in UPDATED HEADCOUNT - EMPID
FORM CELL user will input an EMPID - newEMPID
FORM CELL used for a dlookup to compare what user has entered to what is already in the table - duplicateEMPID

So below is what we are trying to do, we are sure there are a few commands missing....

=IIF(newEMPID=dlookup([UPDATED HEADCOUNT]![EMPID]), newEMPID, "Error, EMPID already exists")

Queries :: Combobox Items Hidden Based On Table Field

Nov 17, 2014

I have a combox with the following query in its RowSource: SELECT [Error Codes].[ID], [Error Codes].[ErrorCode], [Error Codes].[Active] FROM [Error Codes] ORDER BY [Error Codes].[ErrorCode];

I now need to change the query's Rowsource via code and so far I have figured out that this works:

Code : Forms![frmAcceptReturn].Form.cmbErrorCodes.RowSource = "Select ID, ErrorCode FROM [Error Codes Missing]"

However, the table "Error Codes Missing" also has a field called "Active" which I need to take into account; If the error code is not active then it should not show up in the combobox.

I know how to do that in the original RowSource, but how do I do it with code?

Current User Default When Adding A Record

Feb 22, 2005

If I have a field in a table called "AddedBy", is there a way for this to default to the CurrentUser that's logged in to the database when a record is added to the table? I know you can use "Application.CurrentUser" both in the VB code and within SQL queries, but it doesn't seem to work if I put it in the "Default Value" box with the table editor. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks!

Modules & VBA :: Show Hidden Tabs Based On List Box Column Value

Mar 30, 2015

I am designing a contact database for a diocese and the contacts record form is divided into several tabs, some of which are hidden by default. One of the controls on the form is a listbox (lboRoles), where a user can add one or more roles to contacts. The listbox has a hidden column that defines the TabIndex for the assigned role, and my goal is to make the associated tab on the form that was previously hidden, to now be visible.

For example, if a contact is assigned the role "Committee Member" and the tabindex value for that role is 3, the form should make the hidden tab (where the page index is also 3) now visible.

Forms :: Single Column Combobox To List Values From Multiple Fields

Apr 8, 2013

I have a data base with names, email IDs, phone numbers of 5 types(example quality, security, IT,finance etc) of person from ten different project teams. I created a basic form for the end user to enter values and created fields for each of the person's name, email ID etc based on the personal type( liek quality, IT, finance etc) on each team. The background table contains records of almost 200 people now.

All of these people will be trained for one task and some will be trained for multiple tasks. I know how to make the combo box allow multiple values/selections but, i cannot list out all 200 personal names in the combobox's rowsource/value list. Is it possible to combine all different name fields and list out all personal(of one team), so that the end user can just select multiple names for that team who have been trained and so on. i need to set the rowsource of the combobox to the values of all personal from one team so the team leader can just go select who has been trained and who has not.

Forms :: Second User Record Changes When First User Selects Record

Jul 31, 2014

I have a database for mutli users which is split. Front end is available separately for 3 users. These users make data entry in the same form from their front end form. This particular form has combo box that retrieves data based on selection in combo box and the use starts filling the data in the subform. Upto this, form is Ok, no problems seen.

But when the second user opens the same form from the split database front end stored in his computer, and once the second user selects another record from the combo box, first user's record also changes immediately to the record of Second user. Both users now have the same record even though the form is separately accessed from front end.

Forms :: Click Record In Listbox And Combobox Jumps To Same Record?

Aug 25, 2014

I have been looking for days on the net for my listbox problem. It is there and found a few, even on this forum. but when i try the solutions mentioned i am in a total loss and do not know what to change to make it work for me.

I have a form named A/B Retriever with a record source qry input AB Bins Than i have a unbound combobox with row source qry input AB Bins. This populates 8 textboxes with B through I carton boxes, stored in a bin. The user selects a Bin location from the combobox and can put a "x" in a textbox to illustrate that the box is empty. This works perfect.

Underneath the input bin and box part i have 8 listboxes that shows a query that has counted the empty boxes with the corresponding bin location. this also works. but the question from users where, If i click on a, lets say empty B-box at Bin location 12A20, they want the combobox automatically focus on the combobox with the corresponding Bin location. This is a quick way for them to delete a empty box (remove the X).

Forms :: Using Combobox Value To Copy Whole Record?

Dec 3, 2014

Let's say, I'm updating a record, and I have a combo-box that says transfer and another combo-box that states "where to?" - or words to those effect.

Each record has a field for credit value and a field for debit value.

When I've finished entering the current record, I want to run code that fires the event, so, copies all the data from one record, to create a new record, BUT...

1) changes the "where to" from the old record to "From" in the new record.
2) changes either the credit or debit value, to the opposite in the new record?

I would like to do this from a sub-form. I can copy a whole record, no problem, but can't seem to change field values.

Forms :: Visible / Non-visible Combobox - Column Attribute?

Oct 17, 2013

I have a combobox on my form called TypeOfBusiness, with fields including Corporation, Education, Industry, Non-Profit. In order to make a second combobox called IndustryClassification appear when Industry is selected from the TypeOfBusiness combobox, I have used the following code:

Code:
Private Sub Form_Current()
If Me.TypeOfBusiness = "Industry" Then
Me.IndustryClassification.Visible = True
Else
Me.IndustryClassification.Visible = False

[Code] .....

It works just fine. However, when a user selects both, say, Industry and Education, the IndustryClassification combobox will not appear. What code I can use to ensure the IndustryClassification box will appear regardless if another box is checked in addition to Industry? I am wondering if it has to do with the Column attribute.

So, to use the example used in most online tutorials: a drop down menu shows you all the names in a customer database. However, I'd like to have instead a dropdown menu with an overview of all surnames in the database and that I move to the first record with the selected surname.

Forms :: VBA In Unbound ComboBox To Bring Up Record?

Dec 2, 2013

I have a form with subforms, where the main form's source is a table called tblCharts. Within this table there is a field called ID that is autonumbered.

So I created a combo box that's row source is a query that selects the ID field from table charts and two other descriptive fields to make navigation easier. Limit List is set to yes.

The problem comes up with code that I've used multiple times, but not with an autonumber. The code typicallly looks like this when I'm searching on a text field.

Code:
Sub cboPatientSelection_AfterUpdate ()
Dim rs As DAO.Recordset
If Not IsNull(Me.cboPatientSelection) Then
If Me.Dirty Then
Me.Dirty = False

[Code] ....

This worked at first but then 3070 runtime error came up, the form started messing up. So I made this code

Code:
Sub cboPatientSelection_AfterUpdate ()
Dim rs As DAO.Recordset
If Not IsNull(Me.cboPatientSelection) Then
If Me.Dirty Then
Me.Dirty = False

[code].....

This code worked at first, so I decided to make a copy of my form called Copy Of frmCharts. After this the code stopped working on the initial frmCharts but now works on the copy.

I also received other errors besides 2070. I know what error 3070 is but I can't figure out why it's not working on this form. I closed and opened the form a few times and it happened to start working. Very frustrating when I'm trying to make the system reliable for others to use

The code only seems to do this when I enter design view then switch back to form view.

Modules & VBA :: Unable To Add Hidden Information To A Record

Mar 3, 2015

I'm trying to add hidden information to a record and need to know the best way to do it.

I have a visible table that all users enter data into using a form.

I also have a hidden table that contains 2 fields "linked Table ID" and "notes"

I have a box at the top right of my form which is white (I also have a white background so it's impossible to see).

When you click the box it changes a textbox on my form visible property from false to true.

then I plan to use a separate button that the user currently uses to save a record to store ID number and hidden textbox information in the hidden table but I'm sure how to do this.

Finally I will use a hidden query which will display all the fields from both tables using the linked Table ID from the hidden table and ID field from the non hidden table.

So i have 2 questions:

1 how do I save information the user entered into a form created from one table into a different (hidden) table

2. Is this the right approach to this problem?

Forms :: Using Combobox In Continuous Subform To Update A Record

Feb 25, 2014

I have a continuous subform of 'static data' whose record source is a SELECT query across multiple linked tables.

Most of the fields are locked and purely there for information purposes but I need to be able to allow end users to change one particular field in each record if they need to - choosing a value from a predetermined list (i.e. one of the tables)

Usually, when I need to do this, I add a command button to the subform and use that to open a separate pop-up form specific to that record, from which the user can make whatever changes they like and then update the record. So in this scenario, a simple unbound combobox linked to that table, on that separate form, would work quite easily.

But I would prefer if users could make their changes directly from the subform without (yet another) pop-up form required each time, to make managing these records more fluid and less time-consuming.

So my thought was to use a bound textbox in the continuous subform (to take the existing value for each record), hide it and overlap it with a visible unbound combobox whose row source is the table of available options and whose default value is driven by the hidden bound textbox. And then to use the AfterUpdate event of the combobox to run the UPDATE query on the record in question.

However, while the combobox is getting the correct default value and the correct list items, I can't make a selection from it. Now I am aware there are 'issues' with using a combobox in a continuous subform but I was hoping I could circumvent them by not binding it.

I have set conditional formatting to then highlight these sections but am also trying to get it to work so that if the user chooses "NO CHANGE" then the data for that field copies over from the previous record.

I have set this up in the AfterUpdate code for the combobox, but nothing is happening, not even an error....

Code:
Private Sub COMBOBOX1_AfterUpdate()
If Me.COMBOBOX1 = 3 Then
Me.[FIELD_TO_CHANGE] = DLookup("[FIELD_TO_CHANGE]", "tb_TABLE", "[ID]=Forms![form_FORM]![ID]-1")
End If
End Sub

(Where 3 is the value of NO CHANGE in the combobox, and FIELD_TO_CHANGE, tb_TABLE and form_FORM being the names of the various elements)...
