Forms :: Allow User To Change Form Colours And Captions Each Year

Jul 28, 2014

My database has a front end that uses forms to allow the user to navigate within it, each year we create a new database which is based on the previous year's database but with all the variable information removed.

Within the database each form has a caption that starts with '2014-15' then goes on to say the form name.

Most of my forms also have a yellow background, (last year it was pink).

Both these areas were set up so that each year our users can distinguish between our databases, as they may have last years and this years open at the same time.

What I would like if possible is to know whether I can get a user to change both these things from within a form. So something along the lines of a button that when clicked would check all form captions and if within the caption it finds 2014-15 then change it to 2015-16 (or whatever the user specifies) but keep the rest of the caption.
I would also want the same type of thing to happen with the colour so again within the background of the forms, if you find colour X then replace it with colour Y.

If this can't be done within a front end form, then could it be done behind the scenes, and if so how would I go about doing it?

Forms :: Change Datasource Of Form Field Based On Current Year

Nov 12, 2014

I have a little "y2k issue".

My DB has many (!) forms that are based on Crosstabs queries. The headers are years, and therefore my formfields has controlsources like 2014, 2015 and so on.

Example:

The table it comes from looks something like this:

tblProject
Project: Myproject
Value: 1000
EndYear: 2014

The crosstab then takes the EndYear as a coloumn header. Then my forms use these fields, now named 2014, 2015, 2016 .... and give me a nice looking table showing the accumulated "end" for multiple projects.

The problem is when the year changes after 31/12, all fields must manually be changed. This means I have to manually change 2014 to 2015, 2015 to 2016 and so on in all of my formsfields controllsource.

I have played around to find a way to change the source of the field, and hoped I could say something like =year(now()) and for the next year say =year(now())+1 but this only returns that year as a value, and not as a controlsource...

The query functions nicely (ive changed the system time, and it has no issues with this structure), but the forms source is still in the previous year, and returns and error (of course).

When the year changes past new years eve, so will the headers (fieldname) change... but how to make the form change fieldsource?

Modules & VBA :: Loop Through Subforms / Get All Labels And Change Captions

Jun 26, 2014

I have a form (Form1) and a in it, I have 2 subforms datasheet (Subform1 and Subform2). I have ID, First Name, Last Name in each as headers.

I need to:

1) Find the subforms
2) Loop through the subforms and get all the labels
3) Change the captions

The reason for this is because I need to have the forms bilingual. I do have a function that will translate the caption (called TranslateThisWord). I just cant figure out a way to loop through the subforms and find all the labels.

Forms :: Change Textbox Color On Form In Access 2013 For Dyslexic User

Apr 29, 2014

I have a new staff member in my office that has informed me that she has a degree of dyslexia. To assist her I've trialled changing the textboxes on one form in my Access 2013 application to a light pink color & this has instantly worked for her to read/input text.

Is there a way to automatically change each textbox to light pink on every form in my application on startup based on user login (say using an IIF statement in the OnLoad event of the startup form).

Forms :: DB Open Does Not Change User

Jun 24, 2014

Using Access 2007 DB windows 7..Main form on open of db collects the username from the environ. text Field(networkid) is populated on form from the function

1. On Open of DB it opens with a frmuserid which contains a text box holding the network ID which is derived from function fosusername()
2. The value of Forms!frmuserid!networkid (frmuserid! is the form that opens when the DB is 1st opened) is populated with the fosusername() in the networkid text box

I seem to only be having the issue of the db opeing with my network ID no matter who opens the db. Somehow I need to shut off that 1st ID when close db or update the form field on open.

User Change Image On Form

Sep 25, 2005

Wonder if you guys can help, I have searched the forums, but can't find an exact match to my query...

... i want my users to see a coloured image on their form to alert them to the status of a record in the database.

I have 3 very small bitmap images (named red, amber and green and stored directly next to my database ). I want to allow users to change which image should display on any given record by choosing either from a combo-box or radio buttons located next to the 'image space' on the same form. This image change will then save when the database is closed and remain until it is changed to another staus by a subsequent user at a later date.

Any ideas greatly appreciated (I'm currently at [I]'dimwit' level with coding)

Forms :: Dynamically Changing Captions

May 20, 2015

I have a system that has a growing number of forms. On each form they are a variable number of labels/text boxes/command buttons etc. The captions for all of these are in english.

The database is to be deployed to a non english speaking country so I want to be able to dynamically change all the captions on the forms (not n the data) to the local language.I know how to do this. For each control on load I decide the local language and change the caption accordingly ie (and code is for illustration only and not necessarily syntactically correct)

if locallanguage = 1
me.control1.caption = "save in english"
me.control2.caption = "heading1 in english"
else
me.control1.caption = "save in local language"
me.control2.caption = "heading1 in local language"
end if

What I want to know is there and easy way to do this. Rather than wade through each control on each form and find out what the name is can I generate anything that will give me all the control names and captions for each form (and report)?

Modules & VBA :: Create A Login Form That Allows User To Change Temporary Password

Feb 25, 2014

I have been trying to create a login form that allows the user to change his/her temporary password logging it to the proper table along with timestamp and who done it info. But, after spending the morning trying to find the proper syntax I am flummoxed.

I can get everything to work accept the update of the fields. I can get the command to work (writes to the location) but it does the pop-up what is the parameter thing when it works. I have all the information just need to get it in so the command recognizes it.

DoCmd.SetWarnings False
DoCmd.RunSQL "UPDATE lut_TeamList SET Pass = txt_Password.value WHERE TeamListID = Me.cbo_UserName.Value"

Background Colours On Forms Other Than Normal Options

Aug 1, 2005

I'm wanting to get a very, very pale shade of gray as the background colour for an Access form, as well as for several text boxes on it. This is so that users can distinguish editable regions (white bgs) from uneditable ones (light gray bgs).

The default colours that pop up in the menu choices are too dark for this. I've tried using a tiled image for the background of the form, which works fine. But I'd like my uneditable textboxes to be selectable (so users can copy data) whilst being that colour too, which can't be done.

Therefore I'm looking for either the number code for a very very light gray colour (Access' default lightest is "12632256") or some sort of translator tool to let me know how on earth these numbers relate to anything in computing -- I mean, what do those numbers represent? Are they html=no, hex codes=no, rgb values, no... I mean, how is Access coming up with those numbers? I've tried just getting a light gray using trial and error and can't figure it out (even ended up with lime green at one point - very nice on the eyes lol).

Anyone shed some light on this? :D

Alternative Colours In A Form

Mar 15, 2005

Hi I've got some code from http://www.lebans.com/alternatecolordetailsection.htm

It allows for alternate bands of color to be displayed for alternative records in Forms in Continuous View. I've looked in this forum for other alternatives to this but the only ones that are available change the background of a control rather that display a whole row that is filled with colour. So therefore the background of the row is say in red, the background of the text controls are in red.

I've managed to put the code into my form and download the class. The only problem is that I can't seem to set the colour in the actual class file - it's all a little bit confusing! Can you help? Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee........... :D

You can download the sample database from http://www.lebans.com/alternatecolordetailsection.htm

General :: Keep Track Of All Permits Per Year Per User In Same Table

We have a db to register permits that count for one calendar year. This since 2012. For next year, permits must be renewed. How can we keep track of all permits per year per user in the same table ? We would like to produce annual statistics as well ? Easy solution would have been to copy the existing table for the year 2012 and paste as a new table for year 2013 but we don't know yet who will renew his permit ...

Calculation (Formula) On Report Will Change Every Year - Preserve Historical Date

Oct 21, 2015

So I have a company where the bonus amount for a calculation can change quarterly - if a person accomplishes 50-100% of plan they get that % of their bonus amount.

I have that working on a variable detail DB where the historical data is correct for the report.

i.e. if I want to look at January - the report looks at the requested date: January and calculates using the bonus number from the last update made before January (year is also factored in)

So: January 2014 if they make 50% of plan and their bonus is $100 this month - they receive $50

Good - no problem

NOW: Every year the formula on the report Could Change - so next year if the person makes 50-100% of plan and 30% of secondary plan - they get 30%(% of Bonus)

So now: January 2015 if they make 30% of secondary plan and 50% of plan with $100 bonus the report would give .30*(.50*100) = 15

I can change the calculation on the report - BUT then how would I go back and accurately show what they got in January 2014

Would it require a different report per year?

Change "Form" Properties Depending On User

In a nutshell...I want to have a form open with the "form" properties set to "NO" on "AllowEdits","Allowdelete" and "AllowAdditions" and then those same properties set to "Yes" depending on who you are when you open the form.
I think I got a handle on the "who you are" part, I am just not sure about the form properties stuff.

Thank you

Forms :: Use Buttons On A Form To Change Sort Order On A Continuous Form

Jul 23, 2013

I want to use buttons on a form to change the sort order on a continuous form. In the buttons click event I am using a public function (named Sort_1) to change the sort order. The first element of the event call is the name of a generic query (named Sort_1_Query1) and the query field to sort (LAST_NAME OR FRIST_NAME, depending on the button.)This is the Click Statement.

=Sort_1("Sort_1_Query1","LAST_NAME")

This is the Public Function
Public Function Sort_1(SortName As String, FieldName1 As String)
DoCmd.ApplyFilter SortName, FieldName1 & "between 'A' and 'Z'"
End Function

I think the problem is in the use of quotation marks or trying to pass the query field name to the Do Command or the use of an ampersand.

Forms :: Based On User Selection In A Form / Create New Records For Subsequent Form

Feb 3, 2014

The user will be creating a new project that contains a bunch of releases. The releases have standard names which are stored in a table tbl_ReleaseNames It should be noted that the list of names is not static.

The user selects which of the releases pertains to their project and then based on their selections, new records would be created in tbl_RFP_Release and then a subsequent form would open where it would display each of these newly created releases where they could enter additional information. I thought of creating an unbound checkbox associated with each of the standard names, and then checking to see if the checkbox was checked and then creating the new records followed by opening up the new form.
