Forms :: Allow Asterisk Or Numbers Only In Field

I've got a form where the user can only enter the character asterisk or numbers. No letters or other special characters allowed.

The asterisk is a problem since its a wildcard. How do I allow the user to use it or numbers only? I've tried Validation Rules, I've tried vba but I don't seem to manage to get this to work properly.

I have a button on a Form which opens a report, passing in two WHERE clauses which are driven by two comboboxes on the Form (one for ProductType and one for ProductCollection).

Everything works great but I needed to add an "All" option to the comboboxes so that the user can get all Producttypes from a specific Collection or vice versa.

I've managed to add the "All" option to one of the comboboxes (using the UNION query method on the rowsource). I'm a bit stumped though, as to how I would actually tweak the function below to do a select * where the combobox value is found to be = All.

I'm trying to make a filtered search form using "*" as a wildcard default value in combo boxes, this works for all the text fields except for the account number field (Numeric primary key). After quite a bit of reading up and searching, I tried using the following as the row source;

SELECT customers.ACCOUNT_NO, customers.CUSTOMER FROM customers; UNION SELECT "*", "All" From Customers;

But am still getting "#Error" in the combo box.

show the total/sum of the input fields (unbound form).I tried sum function in control source for "Total working day", but I am getting #Error =sum ([working daysperiod1][workingdaysperiod2]...)

I used plus feature; like we do in Excel =[workingdaysperiod1]+[workingdaysperiod2]...... the answer I am getting 22192120.....

Forms :: Comma Separated Numbers In One Form Field

I've current got two tables, one with Products and the other with Suppliers. The products table has a column in which I may indicate Supplier IDs that carry the product. I'd like to make a report that groups the Products by the Supplier that carries them and I'm having some trouble. The way I see this working is to relate the Supplier ID found in the Product table with the auto generated Supplier ID in the supplier table.

My trouble is this, when the field is set to text I'm able to enter values separated by commas no problem but I can't report on them because I'd be relating a number to a string. How may I overcome this?

Searching For The Asterisk Character

Someone used the asterisk (actually, 2 of them **) character in a field to 'mark' it for querying. Since it is a wildcard, how do I query the field to show only the records with "**" in it? What is the best way to remove them using an update query???

Is there a way in a query to search for an asterisk (*) in a field and if one is found, to then remove it?

I'm aware the asterisk is a wildcard symbol in Access, which is why I'm asking what I'm asking. This dang file I received has data in a field and the last character can be an asterisk at times.

Calculate Numbers From A Text Field?

Ok, this one has me stumped.

I have a several fields on my form that are list boxes that must have text as the properties so I can populate the lookup data with things like" Severe rating = 7 points" and "Moderate rating = 3 points". I have another similar field where the choices are "High probability = 9 points" and "Low probability = 2 points" etc. A third field needs to show the total points (product) of the choices from the first two fields, i.e. 9 points x 2 points = 18 points. Then,
a fourth field needs to display where the answer falls in a grid, i.e. 1-14 points = Low, 15-29 points = medium, 30-49 points = high, etc.

How do I apply the calculations on the field choices if the field properties have to be text instead of number?

Within these are mobile phone numbers in no particular order(throughout the field)

Im not sure what the code is to enter in the query to display only mobile numbers from this notes field ?

Numbers With In A Disordered Text Field

Hi,
Could you help me with the following.

Lets say I have table with one of the field header as 'notes'.
The notes is of type 'text'

In the notes column information like the following is typed out

Record 1 - MAX O.D 3.456" Min ID 1.2 and OAL 3.4"

or

Record 2 - MAX O/D 5.456" Min I.D 1.2" and Min Length 4.4 inches

Please note that as shown in the example there is no standard way of entering data. The only order that is followed is that the first numerical value corresponds to OD, 2nd corresponds to ID and 3rd corresponds to overall length.


I want to pull out the first numerical value (3.456 - first example, 5.456 -second example) and the last numerical value (3.4 -first example and 4.4 in second example). How would I be able to do this.

So the end result should be 2 more columns with max od as one and min length as the other.

I have a field for SSN. If the SSN has a 0 or 00 as the first numbers it auto deletes those numbers. Is there a way in access that when the record is visible the 0's are relpaced so that the SSN will read the 9 digit. Also i have another fiels EIN with 7 digits an i need for there to be 2 9's in the beginning. I was goingto use vba but when i go to yp it i only get .value <

Queries :: Search For Multiple Plot Numbers Preferably In One Parameter Prompt With Comma To Separate Numbers

I'm having multiple problems with my database like things such as -

i'm currently working on the Query 2 - On the Phone database (ignore Query 1) and i want to search for multiple plot numbers preferably in one parameter prompt with a comma to seperate numbers. (this could be a multitude of numbers so i would like to be able to input as many as needed). Also when i do search on this query since the Criteria is a 'Between' Value i would expect everything between the 2 numbers input to show up - but a lot of numbers out of the range show up too - why is this? (The Numbers are like "69 to 136" and they will show up - but 1-69 and 136-170 would too

I would also like to implement the search results from Query 2 into the Form i currently have made but it just opens up a access table when the search is made?

i cannot link my database as it is too big for the server - But here are the Criteria for Query 2:

Plot No - (criteria = Between [Enter First Plot No:] And [Enter Last Plot No:])
Site - (criteria = Like "*" & [Enter Site:] & "*")
Product - (criteria = Like "*" & [Enter Product:] & "*"

The Query is the one im most concerned about , i can live without a form.

I have a field in a query that contains numbers and text (text field). The numbers displayed come from a percent calculation and display with many decimals ie, .99898745987245. Is there a way to eliminate the decimals with code in the query field? For example .99898745987245 to equal 99%? I can’t format the field as a number or percent because it has both text and numbers. HELP!!

I would like to have a field in a report show the ratio of two numbers i.e. New Customers is 20 and Lost Customers is 24, and have the ratio field to show 5:6 ratio. I know how to do it in an Excel Spreadsheet (=B1/GCD(B1,B2)&":"&B2/GCD(B1,B2), B1 is new customer and B2 is Lost Customer, but I have not been able to figure out how to make it work in an Access report. I tried to do it in a query, I've tried this code I found on the forum, but could not make is work for my problem.

Have a table with columns of data which I want to total at the end of each row. The Calculated Field does this simply enough but it only seems to be able to add whole integers? How do I get it to accept and add values to 2 decimal places?

Auto Increment Field Based On Value Between Two Numbers

I have inherited an Access DB that is supposed to be kept "alive" but not made much better. On a weekly basis I get an Excel CSV that I'm supposed to import into one massive table; that works just fine.

However, there is another query that takes values from a table named "New Users From Import Table" and appends them to the current "User" table.

But before running that query I have to manually update a field called "Display Name ID" with the next highest number from the User table but only the highest value that isn't in the 9000 number range.

For example, my next highest "Display Name ID" is 1144, which of course does not include the records that range between 9000 - 9008.

I had to manually enter 89 "Display Name ID" values yesterday and I know there has to be a way to update that field when I pull the data over from the temp table without having to do it all manually.

Here's the query that pulls the data into the "User" table (after I've manually entered the incremented values).

INSERT INTO Users ( [Display Name ID], [User Type], Organization, [Display Name], [Alias Name] )

Auto Increment Numbers Based On Value In A Different Field

how to auto increment one field based on the value in another field. What I have is a table with six fields. There is a foreign key assigned to each record and linked to another table. Four fields in this table are number fields indicating accordingly a number for a category, a number for a subcategory, a number for a subject for a subcategory and a number for an instruction for each subject of subcategory. The last field is the text field for each instruction. Numbers are required to be included in the report. Also, number of categories, subcategories, subjects and instructions vary by each record in the the table which this table is linked to. What I'm trying to accomplish is to have numbers in the subcategory to auto increment starting with "1" for each number in the category field, numbers for each subject field would auto increment starting with "1" for each number in the subcategory field, and numbers in the instructions field to auto increment for each number in the subject field starting, again, with "1". I also need these numbers to restart with "1" for each new record in another table.

Basically, the table would look like this:

(if the record in another table is a new/next table)and so forth..I have been looking for anything that could remotely work for me.
