I have an existing form where users type in information and it generates a couple of reports. In one of the fields, Customer PO Number, the user enters a number from a customer. Up until yesterday all of the customers we have been dealing with have used numbers only for their PO numbers. However, we have a new customer that requires alphanumeric PO's. Is there a simple way to change this field from a number to alphanumeric without having to redo each form, report and/or query. I am using MS Access 2010.
Table called "Products" Field 1= "Product ID" which is a text field (PK) but numbers are used (ie 1 -20) Field 2= Products -showing our list of 20 products
When I enter a new product, currently I have to look in the table to find the last ID used then use the next one available. I have created a form to be used for data entry to enter new products
What I am trying to do is :- 1, have the form open at data entry level but still able to scroll and see all records and 2, Have the form auto generate the next number available. For example, I have 20 products entered so when the form opens to enter a new product, the ID is automatically at number 21.
I wondered if its because the field is a text field or I am trying to insert the code in the wrong place.
I have searched this forum but didn't find the answer, I hope I'm not the only one with this problem. I have two text fields in a table that are updated through an excel file import. In the excel file, both fields contain data that is mostly numeric, but there are always about a quarter that contain letters as well. When I go to import the excel file, it sets to null any value in the fields that contains letters. If I sort the excel file in descending order for the field, it will import, but I have two fields that do this, so this brings more problems. Does anyone know why you can't just import anything in any order into a text field?
I've got most of what he wants sorted but this last task I am completely flummoxed. All of his projects are allocated an ID (named Project Reference), starting from P010010 and increasing by 1 each time. I've made a form that allows a new project to be recorded by entering all the details and hitting the 'record' button, but he wants the Project Reference field to be automatically filled in each time (understandably), increasing by 1 from the last record.
So if the last record was P010311, then when the form opens the Project Reference should automatically be P010312.
I've looked into this and found many guides talking about DMax and DIM and strCriteria and whatnot, but no matter how many of them I follow and try to adapt to my own database I can't get it to work at all.
The table the ID comes from is called General, and the field is Project Reference. The ID should automatically be filled into a text box called txtRef whenever the form opens and a button to add a new record is pressed, being 1 higher than the previous ID.
I would like to enter a couple of alphanumeric groups into a field on an input form. After I enter an alphanumeric group, I hit the enter and the data will add into the field and refresh to empty box ready for next entry. If I continue to enter another group and hit enter, the next group will be added to original field with a comma and a space in between. build the VBA in after update event to accomplish the task.
I'm trying to get an invoice number field to auto generate the next number, keeping the format as "00000"...this is what I have, which gets the next number but drops the leading 0
Code:
Private Sub Customer_AfterUpdate() If Len(Me.[InvoiceNumber] & vbNullString) = 0 Then Me.[InvoiceNumber] = (DMax("[InvoiceNumber]", "[tblInvoiceNumber]") + 1) DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdSaveRecord End If End Sub
invoice numbers are 04024, 04025 etc...how I keep the formatiing?
I know that there may have been many posts on this and I have searched for a total of about 2 hours in these forums before posting, so please don't shoot me down for asking this.
I simply need to know how I can create a unique, alphanumeric order number. I was going to use Autonumber, but from what I have read on these forums, that is not the way to go, as Autonumber is simply to identify the record.
What I need is an number like so: ST000. It needs to start at ST142 and increase by one each time. Obviously I would like to avoid gaps from records being deleted or not completed etc.....
I really have no clue how to do this, and would appreciate it if anyone can point me to a post that would help, or offer me the solution.
Not to sure if I am doing the table structure correctly as you may come up with an alternative.
I have an [Pre-Order] table, which is linked to an [Order Details], table. A product grp is assigned to each Pre-Order. One Order can have many colours. So what I need is to be able to have an Auto Number generated sequentially depending on what the product grp is.
So for example, I order some shirts, in three colours.
Shirt Product Grp is P
The start of the barcode is 175
Style number is the next section of the barcode which needs to be sequential generated.
so 175 0001 175 0002 etc
Yes this is easy with an AutoNumber, my problem is that my next order could be ties.
Product grp J
The start of the barcode is 145, i need the autonumber to start from 0001 not start from where the previous order ( in this example Shirt above )
so
145 0001 145 0002
do i have to have a separate table for each product grp, ( there are 26 Product grps )
I work in University accommodation housing 3000 students and we conduct meetings with the residents when they are to be disciplined.. for various things such as smoking in their room, poor conduct, or cause they've broken a window decided playing football in the kitchen using a window as a goal.
They can then be given a fine or community service or a warning.
I've created a database that logs a these meetings and it works fine when one person is called in, it logs the individual (Name, ID Number, Accommodation, Flat & Room No) and I can transfer the details to a new community service record or fine record and it all links to the auto generate ID number (known as the Case Number).
Though in cases where there is more than one person involved and each are given their own "discipline" I haven't got the knowledge to know how to keep it linked to the same 'Case Number'.
Can I create a case, add more than one person to the meeting record who will be present?
Then following that meeting for example Alan gets 10 hours community service, John gets a £40 fine, and Dave gets a £40 fine and 5 hours community service? Though all 3 are still linked to the same case number from the initial meeting?
I have created a basic Volunteer Events and Hours Volunteered tracking database.
I created a form Volunteer Hours to allow an end user to use that form to record the volunteer and hours volunteered on a specific Event. There are two tables needed in the form Volunteer Hours to be used for the end users to record the Event, Volunteer, Date and Hours. The form has drill down fields from two tables:
I want to be able to select the Volunteer Event and have the event date automatically populate in the Volunteer Hours form date field when the Event is selected to eliminate the end user from having to enter the date in.
Also; I would like to be able to add more than one volunteer at a time to an event on the form, this would also decrease the data entry time.
I am trying to use access to connect to SQLServer with an insert query. I need to generate alphanumeric number for each record. The letter will move to the right as the alphanumeric number increase.
For example: A0001 , A0002.... -> A9999 0A000, 0A001 ... => 0A999 1A000, 1A001 ... => 1A999 2A000, 2A001 ...2A999 9A000,9A001 ...=>9A999 00A00, 00A01 ... => 99A99 000A0, 000A1 ... > 999A9 0000A....=> 9999A Last number will be 9999A
Here is my issue. In a table with an Auto Number index some records have been deleted. I have been able to recreate them along with their original auto number. The problem is that I do not know how to append these records forcing the original auto number. I have tried changing the auto number field to a number field in the table, this works except I cannot change it back to auto number.
I am sure I’m not the first with this question or issue. I did search through a couple hundred entries about auto number before I posted this question.
I have written a check writer program for the company I work at. I have a table for Venders, and a separate table Invoices set with a 1-many relationship. When checks are printed it consolidates all the unpaid invoices for each vender to print a single check and mark it as paid with the date.
The checks already have a check number printed on them so what I need is an option that will allow me to enter the first check number when the print starts and Access will put that number in a field on the invoices page for each invoice associated with the first vender printed, then would increase the number by one and put that number in the invoices associated with the next vender printed.
I just started my project database on my subject ITM4. My Database is entitled PCExpress Inventory System. I would like to know how to input (Text) in a Field where the Data Type is (Number) just like the North Wind.
I am creating a Access Data Base for Product Complaint. I have created several tables that share an auto complaint number (Primary Key). How do I make that auto assign? Below is the format of my Complaint number;
A Complaint Number is assigned using the format: PCYYMMXXX Where: PC = Prefix indicating Product Complaint YY = Last two digits of the year when complaint originated MM = Two digits for the month when complaint originated XXX = Sequential number starting at 001 for each year
I have a table which already has an autonumber ( the id field ) But I need to create another field also with an auto generated number which will generate reference number which i need to start at a pre-defined number. The problem is, im not allowed to use 2 auto number fields, and access is prompting me to use a number field instead.
The question is, is there a way around this ? Can i create another field which works the same way as an auto number and increments the number by 1 for each new record entered ?
The big issue is wanting to create the following records in a subform every time a new record in the subform is added. I can populate the Ticket field and know how to cast fields as strings to append them (so I can get the Cylinder field). The output is used to populate a table called Cylinders. My question is:
How do I create a field of letters (or numbers) corresponding to the row in the subform without continuing from the previous letter (or number) in the Cylinders table?
Hi, basically what i want to do is append a record to a table using vba. I would like to take two values from my form (productID, supplierID) and insert them into a table (supplierProductsTBL) under the same headings. I've constructed an sql statement but am getting the following error:
runtime error '3346'
number of query values and destination fields are not the same'
I think this happens because the table also contains an autonumber field (supplierProductID) and i'm not referencing this in my sql statement (below):
mySQL = "INSERT INTO SupplierProductsTBL ( SupplierID, ProductID ) VALUES ('" & SupplierID & "'), ('" & ProductID & "')"
i wuld just get rid of the autonumber field but i need this.
Any help on this would be appreciated, cheers mark.
I don't know why is it so complicated to add an auto number field in a query. I would like to add a increment number (auto number) on each line and then an auto number on each product.
I have a table which will be completely emptied and refilled. The table has a field autonumbered it is also the primary key. When the table is refilled I want this field to start from 1. How can I do that. Yes some people will say this subject has been discussed search for it. But here the issue is somewhat different we have an existing field and I do not want to compact the database each time the procedure runs.
