hello once again,
I need to import a text file into an existing table in Access. The text file has been imported once and is working well and everything. However, since I had to change some of the datatypes to be able to query the table correctly, I now cannot import the text file anymore unless I change the datatype of the table itself. Since someone other than I will be doing the imports from here on out, changing the datatypes everytime is out of the question. I was looking at the TransferText event, but I didn't seem to see anything about converting data types. I can think of two options, and neither are probably possible:
1. import using the wizard. Since I didn't see anything related to the types of data, I don't think this will work...
2.import using TransferText. This doesn't seem to give me any opportunity to change the datatypes either. Is there anyway to programmatically change datatypes, or is there possibly an easier way that I'm overlooking??
thanks in advance,

Hi,
Would it be possible for me to build an interface for a customer to use for importing data. So that they customer could choose from a drop down list, or input into a text box where they want to export from, and where they would like the export to be imported?
I was working on project that involved writing the data into Access database using a C program. The insert query execution was taking very long, so I decided to write to a .csv file and then import it to one of the desired tables. This worked very fast as compared to directly writing to the DB. Now I want to automate this process. The user should specify the file name at the command prompt and I want to call a script so that the script automatically imports the contents of the .csv file into the access DB. I already have connection established to the DB. All I am looking for is the script that can automatically import the .csv file into access DB. Please help me out.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a database for when our people are out in the field. The people will fill out large questionnaires that I want to import into our main database. How can I automate this?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've been asked importing about 50 - 60 .DBF files into an Access database daily - and processing the data in Access to specs I don't have yet.
I'm pretty comfortable doing whatever once I have the data in the Access Database.
The multi-user application I'm making uses data from another system. I get reports in csv format e-mailed to me in zip format. Since it's a multi-user system, I have to create a table with the records from the csv I get an error message that someone is viewing the data if I try viewing it while someone is viewing it.
When I get the e-mail with the latest version of the csv, I unzip it and replace the older file in the folder location that the Access database is linked to. I have a sub routine that deletes everything from the table and inserts the records from the latest csv. I execute the sub by pressing a button.
Is there a way to automate unzipping the file, extracting it to the folder and running the sql code in VBA?
I want to import data from access to excel my excel file has columns say
a b c d e f g h i j k
my access table has columns
b d e f g i k
now when i run transferspreadsheet, since some columns are not there in the access table, it gives a error. how can i import this data?
I have 4 csv files, that need to be imported into Access.
1. I'm building 4 linked tables so users can update the table as needed. Then run queries based on these tables to produce report. But maybe there's a better way? the file name and location might be dymatic, so anything like 'getopenfilename' would be easier instead of linked tables?
2. These data need to be clean up first to become a 'database table'. (Delete first 2 rows, delete some columns, remove duplicates etc.) I know how to do them in VBA Excel, but never used Macro in Access before.
When I try to import from a spreadsheet, Access crashes. No errors, no error log entry. At first I thought it was because my file was password protected, so I tried a new file with no password, but it still crashes Access.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHi all
I've searched everywhere for a solution to this problem....and every site I come to has numerous examples of how to save Outlook Contact data into a database, but nothing on how to automatically store info from forms into Access table.
So, I assume the code will be in Access. When you run the macro it will look in a certain email folder, return all of the data within the forms in that folder and store it into an Access table.
Does ANYBODY know how to do this? I thought it'd be a much more common problem than it appears to be??
Or am I just being stupid
Thanks for your help! :)
Hello guyz,
With the help of 'Import External Data' wizard, my import did not happen. My datatypes and Col. Headers in excel are matching for what I have in access table. Alternatively, I selected to import the data into new table and all of the data got imported. My question, since I already have some data in table I want data to be imported, how can I do about bringing all the data from new table I created during import to the existing table. Please suggest. Thanks in advance.
I get XML's from a site and want to import the data to Access. If I use the native import then I get multiple tables and the data is a little jumbled. For instance: I get 1 table with track names and a different table for track numbers with no way to relate the to accurately. I would like to be able to parse out the XML and have it update my table as it goes so I have less "junk" in my DB. I just can't figure out how to call out the XML tag and tell it to copy that info to the correct field.
View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently I am using this code to import the data in a excel sheet into Access table:
Code:
DoCmd.TransferText acImport, , strcTableName, strFullPath, True
But this will import all the data in that worksheet into the Access table. What I want to implement is to import part of the data. For example, the data I need is start from Row30 till the end, thus I don't need the data from Row1 to Row29.
Can anyone please advise how I may be able to achieve the following?
The database in question is used to store info about members of a radio control model flying club.
I have a table (members) containing member’s personal details – names, addresses etc and a second table (club_membership) containing membership info in the Fields – year, membership_cat, insurance_cat. Each member has a record in the second table for each year they have been a member.
To simplify the renewal process (typically most members renew at the same time at our AGM) I would like to use a form which lists all members names with a check box (renew) which is checked if the member renews his/her membership. For every member checked I would like to automatically create a new record in the club_membership table for the next membership year (2007) by copying over values for the fields membership_cat and insurance_cat from their record for the previous year.
Many thanks
Russell
when i import data from excel into access 2003.i give nothing means not import data and no error seen like process finished but nothing happend.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a text file that details every single incident that happened in the system. This means that it is extremely messy and non-comprehensible to a normal person due to the use of codewords and all.
Is it possible to scan through the document and insert the data into access, such that the different keywords are put as seperate events?
Ps, the number of characters between each event and data may not always be the same, so seperating them by that is not the way to do it. However, when I open the file in notepad++, I can confirm that each event is 6 lines.
E.g. Line 1 = Event timestamp, Line 2 = Event Name, Line 3 = Acknowledged or not, Line 4 = Acknowledged by who, Line 5 = Event Details, Line 6 = Application Owner.
Basically, the 6 lines are the 6 columns that I would need in my table. So, is it possible to separate out and read every 6 lines of data in the text file?
I wanted to import data in a access table using a form in access. The form should contain a browse button to browse the file and then a command button to start importing.

Field 1 : Bkg_Number (text)
field 2 : Container no (text)
Field 3 : Size (text)
Field 4 : Weight (number)
Table Name : TblBooking
Field 1 : Bkg_NUmber(text)
Field 2 : Customer (text)
field 3 : Vessel (text)
Field 4 : Voyage (text)
field 5 : Ttlcntrs (number)
First feeding data in the Tblbooking and creating a booking number. In the same time enters Total containers (ttlcntrs) for the booking. Then, importing some data to Tblmain by using Excel. Booking number is one of the columns importing. My question is, if number of records in the excel file, exceeds the number of total containers (Ttlcntrs) defined in the Booking table, error msg should be given and stop the import process.
I have a fill-in pdf form, with fields that match database table fields. My database is in SQL, but I use Access for the forms and reports.
The users will go on-site (and be offline), fill out the pdf forms a bunch of times and come back with a folder of them.
I am looking for a way to have a form where a user can choose a folder (maybe on an access form) and say "import PDFs" and then have all the data in the PDF forms import to the table. A lot of other stuff has to happen in that process (checking the project number on the form, assigning an ID tag for that item, etc).
Is there a way to import data to Excel from Access without retaining the link ?
I have a table and two queries (from that table) that I wish to export to a specific (Templated) Excel file.
I want to send the data to the Excel file then be able to subsequently copy and paste and email the file without any data connections etc.
Alternatively : to export from Access to the templated excel file.
I have a workbook which has links to access to import data. I have to have the information in Excel for a couple reasons:
1.) Many of our customers don't have Access.
2.) The customers use a "discount calculator" to apply their own discounts.
They also use it to then apply their own margin mark ups to be able to then use to quote to their customers. So a static report/pdf for them to look at doesn't work.
I've begun to create links from a number of queries in Access, which work fine. My problem is when I go to update the data. I'm not getting the following error coming up:
The database definitely hasn't moved. And I've run the queries in q, and there aren't any problems there. I've looked this error up and I'm seeing that it could mean that I've got some corruption going on.
Before I hit my main q, I should also note: I'm running all of this on a Citrix network. I should also note that it's a consulting gig. Once I'm done, I won't be available to fix major issues like this.
I just created a database and need to connect it to the data source. The data comes from a http website (intranet from work). When I open the link using firefox, I can view the website with the data in it, but when I open it from Internet Explorer, I get a save as pop-up message to save a csv file which contains all the data. The extension of the http website ends with csv. So it is something like http (slash slash...) Intranetname/referral_dbase.csv
Currently, I am opening the file using firefox, copying all the data manually, and pasting it in a text file using notepad. After that, I import the file into access. The delimiter of the data is this symbol: |
I am trying to find a way to link my database to the website where the data is located so that I can skip the manual process of opening the website and copying the data and saving it into a text file and then importing that file into access. I was thinking to have like a form in access with a bottom that will automatically import that data from this link and paste it into a table in access using the delimiter symbol mentioned above.
Is this too complicated? Is it even possible in access 2010?
I used to import excel data into access successfully, many times but now I have to import excel data into an existing Access table with foreign key fields, which makes me problems.
Its just doesn't work...and Im sure the forien key fields are the prob cause, the other fields are going well ...
what is the best way to import the data from the XML file into an access database table. The database I am working with has one large main table where all of the main record data is stored. There is a somewhat complex string of queries and reports based off this table that I am concerned about preserving. The problem is that the XML file is not structured in the same way the table is. The headings are named different, aren't in the same order, etc. I cannot use the import method and simply append it to the main table. After much searching around I have found two options:
1) Use the built in XML import method that access provides to create a secondary table. Then find a way to take data from individual fields in the second table and map and insert it into a new record in the main table.I already have the import part of this option working. The only part I can't seem to understand is how to take data from the second table and get it into a new record in the main table under the correct headings
2) Read the data from the XML file all at once and then map and insert it into the main table.I have not attempted this yet. I was having a hard time understanding how to retrieve the data from the XML file in the first place.
So.. which would be better/easiest to automate (most likely via button click on a form)? I only have a small understanding of VBA and even less understanding of anything XML.
i have a database in access 2003 when i open it with access 2003 it shows data in table but when i open same table in access 2007 it shows only header rows , no data
how can i see this data into access 2007 or excel 2007.i want to link these table data with excel 2007 or access 2007 but with above problem i can't do it
