I am putting together a simple database to do with monitoring maintenace of buildings. I was the building number to automatcially populate when the building name is select.

I have got the the point where I have building name and number in the building name combo box but i'm stuck with the after update code builer part.

I currently have:

Me.Building_NameControl = Me.Building_Number.Column(2)

But doesn't seem to work.I don't really understand syntax!

how to automatically populate a certain field. To add some context, I have a form which registers the details of a contact with standard information of contact details. There is a subform which shows the different products that the client from the main form is interested in. This is a actually a data sheet which returns the results of a query (selecting from the relevant table the client in question and the products he/she wants).

I have added a button which opens up another form and allows a product (and hence a new record) to be added for that particular client. I would like that the form automatically populates one of the fields in the form that is the client id. Given that the subform is opened from a form which already identifies the client, how do I do this?

Automatic Update For A Field Depending On The Value Selected In Another Field.

tblAppointment will take register appointments.

tblTreatment contains Cost for different AppointmentTypes.

The above two tables are linked as 1-M relationship (1 Treatment can have Many Appointments)

Entering data in the tblAppointment - AppointmentType and AppointmentCost are the fields in tblAppointment. AppointmentType a drop down box, so that a specific AppointmentType can be selected.

Problem: Now depending on the AppointmentType selected the AppointmentCost field should automatically display the correct Cost.

Can anyone help please?

I'm building a test registration form, and I want to populate 2 additional fields based on the TestID ComboBox selection. This same TestID table has a Requirement and Expected result field, that I want to display for the end user, to make sense of the test in question. Multiple fields in the ComboBox does not work since you cannot select a single testID; you can click on the relevant testID, but the table remains in view, rather than displaying only the relevant testID.

Field Population

Hi all, could help me with a problem. I have a form that displays only the records for a specific field. in my table I have many records so I have narrowed the records I want to display by displaying only the records with the same pin number. So if Pin number 2550 has 10 records then on my form there will be 10 records. Now I would like to add a record to make it 11 so I would like to have my fields populated from the information that I already narrowed. so the user doesnt have to enter it again. IE. my phone number, my name, and the current date doesnt change so I would like to be able to have that data appear when the button is clicked. any help would be great. I've got most of what he wants sorted but this last task I am completely flummoxed. All of his projects are allocated an ID (named Project Reference), starting from P010010 and increasing by 1 each time. I've made a form that allows a new project to be recorded by entering all the details and hitting the 'record' button, but he wants the Project Reference field to be automatically filled in each time (understandably), increasing by 1 from the last record.

So if the last record was P010311, then when the form opens the Project Reference should automatically be P010312.

I've looked into this and found many guides talking about DMax and DIM and strCriteria and whatnot, but no matter how many of them I follow and try to adapt to my own database I can't get it to work at all.

The table the ID comes from is called General, and the field is Project Reference. The ID should automatically be filled into a text box called txtRef whenever the form opens and a button to add a new record is pressed, being 1 higher than the previous ID.

I am wondering if Access 2010 has the capability of automatically filling in a field from info keyed into previous fields. For example, I want a confirmation number issued which is made up of all the characters keyed in the previous three fields. For example, assume the previous three fields are:

Block = 01
Building = 125
Room = A
Confirmation Number =

Therefore, the confirmation number would automatically be filled in as 01125A.

If so, how do I go about setting it up?

I have a form set up so that a supplier code combo box is populated with a simple SQL statement to get values from a lookup table. I have a second combo box that is populated when the supplier code is selected by the user. It works well. For example, if the user selects supplier Dog then the current record value of the Product field is displayed and the combo box shows all Dog products. So that's great.

My problem arises when the form loads. I can't convince Access to fill the Product combo box with the current products. For example, if the first record has Cat as the supplier, I want it to display the Product value for the first record and to show all the Cat products in the drop down. It isn't doing it on load or on record navigation. It does work if the user reselects the supplier.

I have tried various events.

Right now I have the following code in the AfterUpdate event of cboSupplier:

use a continuous form to allow users to quickly enter any number of records. One of the fields in this continuous form is an ID (not a foreign key, actually not a key in the database but crucial for other purposes) which is incremental from the last one stored in a table.

I am able to use a combo box and a query to get the ID but I cannot save the value to the text box on the first record, and then requery and get the next id when the user moves onto the next record..and so forth..

The datasheet is populated in a subform, based upon a table.

Within this datasheet, I have several combo boxes.It is easy to give them a query to show all values possible.

This gives me a list of all possible values in "tbl_PPV_RPM.Createdby".What I want, is to be able to select only the relevant values in this combobox, based upon a materialnumber in the same row. "tbl_PPV_RPM" contains a row named "Material". The datasheet also contains a row named "Material". These need to be linked. When I try to link them through the query builder, I get this:

I've created a table with a form that includes multiple fields that autopopulate after I enter a certain date into the "reciept date" column. After I hit enter or tab, the autopopulation accures. After I completed the table and form for autopopulation, I was tasked with adding even more autopopulating columns to the tablel that was completed. After adding the additional columns to the table and adding the extra code in it's proper place, doing everything exactly like the night before, the autopopulate does not work for any of the columns.

I have a form (PostProductionForm) which is used to input data about finished goods which come off a production line. There are three possible outcomes which can occur after the production: Passed, Reprocessed, Failed and the numbers for these are entered in 3 text boxes on the form (QtyReprocessedTxt, QtyFailedTxt, QtyPassedTxt).

These text boxes are auto populated with a 0 from the table (PostProductionTbl) so there aren't blanks.

What I am trying to do is use an IF function (I think) which says that if Quantity Reprocessed is equal to zero when the submit button is pressed, the "Reason for reprocessing" combo (RPReasonCombo) must have something selected (i.e. can't be blank) or it won't go to a new record.

I expect/hope to first calculate the sum of a cost field and then minus the value of its corresponding calc field from a specific record.

result = sum(cost1) - calc1 selected record value

I want to select the calc1 record from a drop down list of the primary key. Which cost field is in the equation will static/defined as I intend to make a textbox for each field.i need to know the code to pick a field(and retrieve it's value) from a record selected via dropdown list.

I have a form listing tasks to which I make personnel assignments with a multi-value list field type. It takes some time to select from 15-25 employees on the list for each task, especially considering that small groups of employees will be assigned to the same selection of tasks.

What I want to do is select multiple records with the mouse, then click a command button opening a form in dialog mode with the selection list. The user then clicks to make his selections and clicks ok, which then updates the multi-select field for the selected records.

I am attaching a picture of what I am talking about as this is going to get confusing...at least it is for me.

I have a Navigation Form that holds 7 tabs that pull reports or data entry forms.

I am trying to get the Preview Selected Record function to pull the UniqueID field from the Data Entry Form and generate a report for printing.

I can search by UniqueID in the data entry form with no problem, it is linked to two subforms with no problem.

Here is the code I have used most successfully:

This actually works, but every time the print preview is closed, it crashes Access. I have researched this particular issue, and some of the solutions I have read and tried lead to "that method is not allowed or supported" errors or Run-Time 438 errors.

Automatic Field Completion

Ok, i'm very new to access, so please be patient!

Right, disclaimer over, hopefully someone can help me with this.

Essentially, I have a table of employees who have something called an OUC - this is a group identifier which allows us to recognise certain info about them. The first three digits relate to the line of business (LOB) that the employee is in.

ie. John Doe - JPGA2X; Joe Bloggs - JPGB3Y; Frank McRank - JDH3B;

John Doe and Joe Bloggs both are in the IT LOB (as defined by JPG), and Frank is in Finance (as defined by JDH).

I currently put the OUC in the employee table, and have got a translation table for OUC->LOB (ie the left three digits of ouc's, and how they equate to the correct LOB). What i can't work out how to do is get the two tables to interact. How do i get the employee table to automatically work out which LOB the employee is linked to?

I hope this is clear, and that someone is able to work out why i am being such an idiot about this! (it's probably basic principles of Access that i've skipped over in my haste!!).

Hello all how are you? im kindda new in the are of access(2 months)
Im making a db for company which its purpose is salary managment.

now i have a basic question

I have a table named Months which hold parameters like: "price of food","Car Value" and more..

I have field named: "Month and Year" and i want that the default value of this field would be the last month plus 1.

for example: if the first record in "Month and Year" is--> 07/2007
the second record would be 08/2007.

i have tried to use the default value in the tbl properties but it didn`t work for me

Automatic Field Update

I have a form (Access 2000) on which one of the fields shows the date on which the record was last updated.

The idea is that when the the form is closed (or the user navigates to another record), this field is automatically set to the current system date, but ONLY if any of the other fields on the form have been changed. If the user has merely viewed the form without changing any data, then the 'Date Updated' field would not be changed.

I'm sure this is a common enough scenario, but I'm struggling! Any suggestions most gratefully received!
