Forms :: Barcode Scanning Into Combo Box - MS Access 2003

I designed an inventory control software and we are managing our stock through barcode scanning, it is working well although i have a problem to solve that i have put a combo box for scanning code 39 barcode, upon scan the barcode a code is entered into combo box and then we need to press the "ENTER" key to go for new record, we would like to ms access form to automatically go to new record when a code input from scanner.
My client is a baseball league who started a Kids Club which has membership cards that have a barcode and their own specific number to monitor the number of times that the KidsClub members come to the games. They don’t have any software to go with the cards though. They asked me if I could help. I created a simple table in Access to capture the name, address, telephone, email, number of games attended. The cards have a barcode on them, and they would like to be able to scan the card with a USB handheld scanner and have the number of games attended field to be updated by the scan. Each card has its own number that is programmed into the barcode, which could be the primary key for Access. Can you offer any assistance in how to get the scan of the card to update the "number of games attended" field I created based upon the barcode number?
I need to be able to run my database in the background but i still need to be able to input data from a barcode scanner is this possible. I have worked out how scan bar codes but when the application is minmised it no longer accepts the barcode data.
I am wanting to use a barcode scanner to input data into a field and bring up details based on the barcode. This is simple enough as long as the field you want to scan into has focus. Is there a method which will automatically populate the correct field with the scanned data no matter where I am on the form.
I'm scanning bar codes into the record search box, most of the time it works as it should but occasionally I get multiple "cannot open any more databases" errors. It still finds the product record but the error messages are super annoying. I am sure to clear the memory on the scanner each time before I scan in a new barcode but it doesn't seem to matter. Also sure to only have one or 2 forms open at a time, that doesn't seem to matter either. Most of the time I don't get the errors but when I have to click through like 10+ error messages (all identical). I only have one database open so I'm not sure what it even means. Also I have tried this in 2 different forms and it's the same for both forms. Seems like I get the errors in my initial scan and then after clearing them it seems to work without errors.
I want to be able to put a barcode in a field that when a reader scans the barcode it records the current time. Need it for access control to record who is in and out of the office. Reading other threads I understand it may be possible in Dlookup.
I'm working on a project that uses a barcode scanner. The user will scan a barcode which will choose an item from a combo box. The result of what it enters will populate a text box. I have that part working fine.
The next step is to get it to open a form based on the value in the textbox. The textbox will have about 7 different possible values and each one should open a different form.
The way this is supposed to work:
User approaches a machine and scans the barcode. He is presented with a form giving him options based on the type of equipment the machine is. A compressor for example would present him with a set of options for compressors (gauge readings, maintanence, etc).
I have an unbound form with two controls:
cboAssetNumber txtType
How to code this and which events to code it in. Users will be going from machine to machine and using the form over and over again so I need to somehow manage the clearing of the form to begin again with another barcode scan.
I saw another thread about a barcode scanner and one response was to program the scanner to send the barcode and then send an "Enter" press to move focus to the next control. I've looked through the documentation and haven't been able to find if that is possible. Right now it sends the number and that's it. It's a "Motion" Tablet.
Since the last Windows XP update on the secretary PC, all combo lists are now empty even if the related tables are not at all.

Here is the description:
1) I've got a combo list based on the table Towns with zip-code, name, country.
2) In the form, in addition the combolist is sorted on the name, just to easily pick up the right Town
3) Since the Windows update, the combo list displays only the zip-code, the other fields are empty even if the table content is not empty at all; I mean I checked in the table content itself.
4) I created a query based on the same arguments of the combo list and the query is working well alone; if I try to create a new combo list linked to the query, then I get the same weird result
5) I've tried to create a new field with the combo list assistant; when I select the table Towns, it shows me the full content (so name, zip, country) and when I run the form, the combo list is again almost empty !!
6) What is more weird is that when I put the Access database back on my standalone laptop which is running Access 2002, the combo list is working correctly !! In fact I am currently maintaining the Access database from my Access 2002 since more than one year and I had no issue
7) In fact, I got the same issue with all the combo-list in my Database
8) I tried to compact the DB but with no effect
Somebody has a brillant idea for me ?? otherwise I think I will contact Mister Bill directly :)
I am using Access 2003 and I am having trouble with a Combo Box on a form.
I had a combo box (based on a table), storing the choice in a field in the query and underlying table the form is based on. Everything was working fine, until... I altered the form based on a query. Now when you make a choice from the drop down list you get an error bell and nothing happens.
I am using a barcode font in order to generate a number as a barcode on my report records. In order for my barcode scanner to read the barcode it needs an asterisk at the beginning and at the end.
So, if my record ID is 62 - in order for the barcode to be displayed correctly, it needs to be on the report as *62* .
Without digressing into a discussion on barcode methods in Access, how can I precede and succeed each ID number field with an asterisks?
My Access 2003 Database contains the following objects:
1. tblTrackerData - this contains over 1,000 student enrollment records. One of the fields "QualCourseName" (text) contains the name of the Training Course that the student has enrolled in.
2. qryCourseNamesGrouped is a query based upon the above table with one field only - QualCourseName. This includes the names of the training courses and has been grouped so that only 17 training courses appear, not over 1,000.
3. frmParameter is a form that includes a combo box cboFiltered based on the above query AND a command button CmdFiltered to open a report rptCourseNamesGrouped and filter the report based on the selection made from the combo box.
I have added the following code to the OnClick event attached to the cmd button" ================================================== ======

When I click on the cmd button, the entire report is opened, instead of the selection that I made in the dropdown list.
Wondering if anybody has any information about this.
Backgound information: My access database information comes from a 'card' where somebody has manually put crosses in a number of boxes. This information is currently being manually inputted into the database...
I know you can get scanners to pick up information from a document...but is this possible with microsoft access?
Is there a way to directly access a TWAIN compatible scanner directly from a form button in Access 2007/2010 so that it will add one or more images to the specific table?
I've been using the following code successfully in Access 2003 & now I need to migrate to Access 2010. The purpose of the code is to use the items that the user selects in the list box to build the criteria of a query. Access 2010 keeps giving me a syntax error when I try to run the query & I don't know why:

I have been asked to create a database very quickly for a small group that needs to scan multiple pages into an Access 2007 form. They they would like all scanned documents to be converted to PDF and stored on a shared network folder which can be accessed by their group. I have tried several ideas posted but, I have been unable to get any to work correctly. Any sample of working database that the scanning portion is working? I am so involved with other projects right now that I just don't have the time to create a scanning process on the database.
I have some code set up to automate scanning from access to a specific folder on the server. I have searched the web for different codes and have not come across anything that will scan an unknown amount of documents. The best I found was the code I am currently using, that will scan up to 10 documents separately, then convert these documents into 1 PDF. This is not ideal, however, because it would require the user to scan 1 document, wait, than scan another, wait, etc. Also, the code I am currently using will only scan from the glass, not the auto feeder, and I am unsure how to change this.

I am making a database for some people I work with, I'm having trouble with making a button to work. I want a button to go to the next tab on the tab control, but still in the same record. I prefer not to use the vba, but if I need to use it
One of users of supermarket is running my db successfully since long. But due to the change of time & his progress in business, he expanded his supermarket and it is becoming difficult to use the keyboard to enter the digits for the price.
Hence he asked me to make db able to read barcode on the items so the transaction would take very little time.
To be frank, I do not have any experience about barcode reader how to implement it with Access db.
What kind of barcode readers are available that would EASILY set with Access db? R They really work with Access db? What steps I need to carry out to implement it?
Please advice if anyone of you has any idea in this regard.
I currently Have this form setup in 2 sections. The first section includes 2 text boxes for Eligibility Number (field name = EligibilityNum) and the second for School (SchoolName). The second section is a subform called sfrmSchools that includes all the eligibility numbers, schools and other useful information.
I have created an Access 2003 database from a ledger. The main key is an eligibility number that corresponds to a school. There are over 2000 schools in my database. How can I program Access to automatically find the record (eligibility number or school) if I type it in the first section. For instance if I was looking for a given school with an eligibility number of 5670A0324. If I type in '56' I would be taken to those eligibility numbers with 56 to show. Same for if I typed in the name of a school. If the school I wanted started with 'D', I would be taken to them.
1.st Job: I have an access 2003 db. I want to implement barcode system to the DB in which I can print barcodes in any kind of barcode printer and also when imputing an order read data from barcode scanner etc.
2nd Job: I want to put access db to a server so I can view reports, forms, imput data and retrive data from internet explorer window (with a password).

My questions are: 1. If multiple users access this database using different versions of Access (2000 and 2003) will it not work for some? 2. do i have to modify code if i update to 2003?
i am getting stuck while updating the data in the database table using a command button in the MS Access2003 forms. when i click the command button in the form, a message "Run time 2185: you cant refer to a property or method for a control unless the control has a focus". the code is as follows.
