I have a user form that has many unbound controls that are used as calculated controls that lead up to an unbound control that is the grand total of all the data entered. I would like for the unbound grand total control to update the grand total field in the table where I would like to store the data..is there a way I can bind an unbound control to a field in a table?
I have a form with a (large) number of controls which acts as a kind of read-only dashboard of data. The data is split across a number of tables (4, for now, but may grow) I've created a query which amalgamates all of the data from the tables into a single dataset and set that as the RecordSource (Snapshot) of the form. I now want to bind each of the controls to a particular field returned by that query.
However - I have a combobox (same form) which allows users to select a date and I need the controls to update with the relevant data for that date whenever the combobox is changed. The query already returns values for each field over a range of dates so the data is available within the form's RecordSource - I just don't know how to include the date criteria, as specified by the combobox, when binding each individual control?
Basically, I originally wanted to create a form which I can input data into Access with by using a button (I was unable to get Access to append the information from the forms to the table, so it didn't work out!). I did not want the fields on the form to be linked to a table, as then a record (and most importantly an auto-number) is created as soon as somebody starts typing. Should somebody stop typing halfway through and quit the form an autonumber will have been generated, which makes the number of "users" seem higher than it actually is. I got around this by changing the field from autonumber to number and then creating a query that selects the maximum value of ID in the table, then adds 1 to it (which is essentially the lowest unique number. I tend to call this newID).
The problem I now have is setting this to be written to the table alongside the data from the form (the rest of the fields on the form are now connected to the table, as I am no longer using an autonumber). I have tried the following: Setting the form to run the expression "[ID] = [qryMaximumUserID]![NewID] " on load. This returns the error "The object doesn't contain the Automation object 'qryMaximumUserID.' Setting the control source of the text box to be dLookup. This fills the textbox with the correct value, but then it doesn't write it to the table! Setting the default value of the field to be 0, then running an update query to update any ID of 0 (criteria "0" to the value of newID "update to: [qryMaximumUserID].[NewID]. "). However this doesn't work as whenever the query is run it asks for a parameter to be entered, rather than just taking the value from the other query. Writing a macro that is run on load to SetValue of item:[ID] to expression: [Forms]![qryMaximumUserID]![NewID]. However this returns an error "Microsoft Access cannot find the referenced form 'qryMaximumUserID' you entered in the expression.
On a Tab Control inside a from, I've created an Unbound Object Frame, referring to an MS Excel Work Sheet. The goal here is to link that Unbound Object Frame residing on the Tab Control and save the form/link.
Now, when I execute the code, the Object Frame is linked and updated, but when I close the form, the link inside the Object Frame is not saved! However, when I do the exact same thing without placing the Object Frame on one of the pages of the tab, so as regular control inside the form, all works fine.
The code is as follows (performed when I click the button);"OLETest" refers to the UnBound Object Frame placed inside the first page of a Tab Control inside the form.
In my DB i would like to make a form that displays different calculated values based on other forms and queries like income running cost etc., but i do not know how to refer in an unbound control to value of a control in another form. I get always #names? error. However it worked when loaded that form i refered to. Is there a way to do it without loading the refered form?
I have an unbound control in data input form requiring to input a 6-digit number. I have put a validation rule restricting more than 6 digits. Most users prefer to enter, say 123 and the system can enter the 3 leading zero for them.
I wonder if it's possible to bind one form to more than one table without using 'sub-form'? I basically have one text box that I want to bind to a different table than the one the form is linked to and I don't know if I should use a subform.
I am trying to create a database for a cub scout pack that just keeps scouts information, medical info, parents info, and parents medical info each is a seperate table. I have created a Tab controlled form with 4 tabs. On each tab the ONLY thing I have is a subform that contains the appropriate information. Each table has it's own form with the table as it's record source. I link the scouts table to the medical table by SID which is a primary key in the Scouts table. I link the Scouts table to the Parents table with a PID which is the Primary Key in my Parents table, and I link the Parents with the ParentsMed with a PMedID, key in the ParentsMed table.
Question #1 - Using a Tab Control you can only have 1 record source. What should I use? I have tried the tblScouts and I have also created a query with every field from every table.
#2 - When I try to use the parent and child links on the subform I get the error "Can't build a link between unbound forms" but each form is bound to the table and the record source on the tab control has had a table and my qryEverything, neither work. I can type in SID but it still doesn't function properly.
Any suggestions or comments on a better relationship method or any insight on how tab controls are supposed to be setup or anything would be greatly appreciated.
May not be using the correct terminology here. I have a form that currently does not have a RecordSource. From this form, I want to create a table called "ICEA" with the following fields (which would be entered from the form): OperatingDay, Hour_Ending, Import, Export, and Net.Can this be done with a SELECT statement or does it have to be done through VBA?
When a user selects a name from a combo box then 11 textboxes are populated with personal information.
What I am looking for is when the user edits the persons information (i.e. changes the persons phone number to a different number), how do I update the table with this information?
Is there a way to only update fields that have changed? or do I have to save all textboxes?
I have read about an "Update Query" and a SQL Update, but I did not think the two applied. I am sure that I am wrong, lol.
I tried the "Docmd.Runcommand acCmdSave (in the OnClick event cmd button) but it did not make any changes to the table.
This is what I put in the OnClick event:
Code: Private Sub cmdSaveEdit_Click() DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdSave TextBoxLockDown Me.Requery End Sub
I have a form, which has a search box. This allows you to search through the id numbers of each record. Once an ID has been selected a bound textbox displays the id number. Other unbound textboxes then display other information from the table with the relevant record.
What I want to do is then allow users to change information in textboxes and update the record.
I have a form with a field that has formula for calculation. However, I am unable to link the field to the table since the control source is my formula. How can I that field to a table?
I've tried using the vba to have unbound forms information pasted to a table. The Vendor, Channel and Department are unbound fields in the form and I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to get them to append to the table.
I've tried using solutions provided prior but I must be missing something. Here's my database. I'd like for it to append to the table then ready the form for the next entry.
I have a form which has an unbound text field which is a calculated filed showing a date which is x months after a separate field on the form.
I need to write this field back to a table in the database when an "add" command button is clicked.
The table is called Assets The form is called Assets List The text field on the form is called txtWED and needs to be written back to the table "Assets" in the field "Warranty_End_Date"
If possible can I add this as an expression on an "add" command button?
I have an inventory transaction file that has quantity on hand as a calculated field. I am trying to add this unbound field to a report using a query but I can't figure out how to add my quantity on hand field to the query since it is a calculated field and not a bound control.
I'm trying to build a form based on a table where the user can also enter data to update the table but with data fields not originally in the table. Below is a summary of what I have and what I need:
1.) A file that will be uploaded daily into a Table (ie name Denials extract table). 2.) A form bound to table Denials extract 3.) Additional fields that will be updated by users that is not included in this table b/c they are not available in the system we are getting the data extract from. 4.) The user will look up a key field that will allow them to review it in our system. Once they "work" the record, there will be multiple fields that they will update with this information that are not in the bound recordsource (table Denials extract).
Do I create another table with these fields even though they will be blank at first and make them a subform that will have a "primary key field" that will link the main form with the subform? Will they need to "update" a whole new table? Not really sure how that would work since they will be updating fields not in the bound table.
I have a form that contains a combo box (cboEmployeeName) that pulls data from a query and populates three text boxes (Work Area, Last Name, First Name), This part works fine. Because the text boxes are being populated by the Combo box, they are not bound to the record source tblTrainingSchedule). I need the info that is in the text boxes to populate the respective fields in the record source.
I tested by adding "=tblTrainingSchedule!WorkArea=[cboEmployeeName].Column(3)" (column 3 is the work area) to the "after update" control but it does not populate the data.
Any way to transfer the data in an unbound textbox into a separate table.
User enters an amount into a textbox2, and then it does some calculations that involves textbox1 and textbox2. Finally, textbox3 has the final answer. Can textbox3 overwrite textbox1's data on the table and on the form?
Also, is there an "auto date" feature in tables? If new data is put into tables, Today's date appears on the date column?
I have a form that uses a query as its control source. The problem I have is that on this form I have an unbound textbox that I need to show the result of another query in. I thought I could do this by using =[Query]![QueryName]![Field name] in its control source, but this isn't working.
Is it possible to have an unbound image control on a tabular form displaying a different image for each record ?
Actually i have tried putting some code on the onCurrent event, but it is displaying the same image in all records, depending on which record is current.
This is the code which i tried using:
Private Sub Form_Current() On Error GoTo Err_Form_Current If Not IsNull(Me.txtCountry) And Not IsNull(Me.txtCatalogueNumber) Then Me.Stamp.Picture = Environ("userprofile") & "My DocumentsDatabasesPhilatelyStamps" & Me.txtCountry & Me.txtCatalogueNumber & ".jpg" ElseIf IsNull(Me.txtCountry) Or IsNull(Me.txtCatalogueNumber) Then Me.Stamp.Picture = Environ("userprofile") & "My DocumentsDatabasesPhilatelyStampsNotAvailable. jpg" End If Exit_Err_Form_Current: Exit Sub Err_Form_Current: If Err.Number = 2220 Then Me.Stamp.Picture = Environ("userprofile") & "My DocumentsDatabasesPhilatelyStampsNotAvailable. jpg" Else MsgBox Err.Description, vbExclamation, "Error #" & Err.Number End If End Sub
Actually, the above code works fine for Single Form, but not on tabular form.
I have this on two slightly different reports, where only one line of the report is different. One report works fine, no problems. All the data is there. But on the second report I get the dreaded #Name? error.
I have a form based on query. On form i am retrieving data from another table using DLookup in a unbound text box. So I want to save the result of DLookup function in another field/table on same form.
I created an unbound text box on a form that automatically pulls the current logged in user by using this:
Private Sub Txtuser_Click() Me.Txtuser = Environ("Username")
The form grabbs the logged in user with no problems, however, I ultimately want this information to also end up in my table. So the form has three boxes (to keep it simple). The user will type their first name and last name manually on the form which the record source is this "table" where their name goes to the table last name =Field 1 and first name=Field 2 respectively. I want the unbound box from the form to place the logged in user in Field 3 for the current record.
I have a form with 1 unbound listbox as drop down list (entypolst), an unbound text box(entypotxt) and a command button. The list box reads items from a table. I want to change a value (text) on listbox, input a text on textbox so pressing the button add a new record in a table (Table1 fields Category,Product) showing in my form as subform (SFTable1) in datasheet view. For that reason a made the following code:
Code: Private Sub AddBtn_Click() Dim ans As Integer Dim strSQL As String Dim db As DAO.Database Dim rs As DAO.Recordset Dim ctl As Control
[code]....
I take the error msg for 0 items selected in listbox and exit the sub.
