Forms :: Binding Results Of Query To Textbox Then Writing Value To Table?

May 19, 2015

Basically, I originally wanted to create a form which I can input data into Access with by using a button (I was unable to get Access to append the information from the forms to the table, so it didn't work out!). I did not want the fields on the form to be linked to a table, as then a record (and most importantly an auto-number) is created as soon as somebody starts typing. Should somebody stop typing halfway through and quit the form an autonumber will have been generated, which makes the number of "users" seem higher than it actually is. I got around this by changing the field from autonumber to number and then creating a query that selects the maximum value of ID in the table, then adds 1 to it (which is essentially the lowest unique number. I tend to call this newID).

The problem I now have is setting this to be written to the table alongside the data from the form (the rest of the fields on the form are now connected to the table, as I am no longer using an autonumber). I have tried the following: Setting the form to run the expression "[ID] = [qryMaximumUserID]![NewID] " on load. This returns the error "The object doesn't contain the Automation object 'qryMaximumUserID.' Setting the control source of the text box to be dLookup. This fills the textbox with the correct value, but then it doesn't write it to the table! Setting the default value of the field to be 0, then running an update query to update any ID of 0 (criteria "0" to the value of newID "update to: [qryMaximumUserID].[NewID]. "). However this doesn't work as whenever the query is run it asks for a parameter to be entered, rather than just taking the value from the other query. Writing a macro that is run on load to SetValue of item:[ID] to expression: [Forms]![qryMaximumUserID]![NewID]. However this returns an error "Microsoft Access cannot find the referenced form 'qryMaximumUserID' you entered in the expression.

Binding Forms To Multiple Tables

Sep 28, 2006

Hi,

I wonder if it's possible to bind one form to more than one table without using 'sub-form'?
I basically have one text box that I want to bind to a different table than the one the form is linked to and I don't know if I should use a subform.

Regards,
B

Forms :: Access 2007 - Binding Control To Form RecordSource With Criteria?

Nov 12, 2013

I have a form with a (large) number of controls which acts as a kind of read-only dashboard of data. The data is split across a number of tables (4, for now, but may grow) I've created a query which amalgamates all of the data from the tables into a single dataset and set that as the RecordSource (Snapshot) of the form. I now want to bind each of the controls to a particular field returned by that query.

However - I have a combobox (same form) which allows users to select a date and I need the controls to update with the relevant data for that date whenever the combobox is changed. The query already returns values for each field over a range of dates so the data is available within the form's RecordSource - I just don't know how to include the date criteria, as specified by the combobox, when binding each individual control?

Forms :: Using Table Info In A Textbox?

On my form I have a tape Textbox where I put tape numbers in that is on a other table inside my access file (for now I just type a tape number in), then save the info to other table also inside access file.

I want to know how can I make it that if I put a tape number in the textbox, it must look at the table for tapes, and if the tape number is not in the tape table, it must not let me use the wrong tape number that is not in the table for tapes.

Forms :: Timesheet Table - Textbox With Total?

Jan 18, 2015

I have a timesheet table (tblHourEnter) which has a staff field (Staff_ID), week number field (Week_No) and hours field (Hours_Worked).

The data is entered through a form (frmHourEnter) which has a staff textbox (Staff_ID), week number textbox (Week_No) and hours textbox (Hours_Worked).

I wish to add another textbox (HrsTotal) that would show the sum of all the hours (from the table) which is dependent upon both the Staff_ID and Week_No entries showing on the current form. I.e. the sum of hours is restricted to both staff member and week number showing on frmHourEnter.

This total can be generated from a command button.

Writing To Another Table

Nov 17, 2006

Hi,

I am fairly new to msaccess programming and am trying to build a stock control system for my business.

I am happy with everything I have done so far but there is one thing I cannot figure out.

I have set up so that the user can click a button and remove the relevant number from the stock level. The buttons are for removing 1, 5, 10 or 20 (there are reasons for these numbers). However I would also like the button to take information from the form (which is referenced to a query) and write that information, along with an autogenerated id number and the current date/time to another table. This is for our record keeping, so that we can record what is selling well etc and when the last one was sold.

How do I do this?

I have gone through the help files and my books, but I think the problem is I don't know where to start looking.

I also want to add a button that will add items to an order table. Again by taking the information from the form and writing it to another table. With this one a message will appear asking for the quantity to be entered. It will also check the order table to see if the item is already there and advise if it is.

Any help gratefully received.

Steve:confused:

Forms :: Using Textbox In Form To Update Subform Table

May 2, 2015

I'll simplify this form to a

- textbox
- command button
- subform (showing a table with 4 fields, including an "EntryID" field but just one record)

What I'm trying to accomplish is to enter a value in the textbox (this value will be one of the EntryIDs in the EntryID field), click the command button, and the subform should refresh itself, showing the record from the table (the 4 fields) which has the same EntryID.

Forms :: Value To Put In Textbox For Field In Same Table As Combo Box Selection

Jul 8, 2014

I have a form frmCrisisSupportWorkers with a tab control on the form. On the first tab, Personal Info there is a combo box called cboLocation. It is next to the Town/City.

I have a text box that updates the postcode after the selection is made below it but that is as the post codes are stored in the combo box and I just put the column for the postcode in the control source of the text box.

I can't do that for state as I have it stored in another table and use a numeric identifier to show which state is selected.

I want to have a text box below that auto updates the state once a town is selected but I can't seem to get it working.

Writing Values To A Table

Oct 18, 2005

Hi,

I have a check box that gets ticked when 'work complete', it adds the parts/service totals and fills in the 'parts total', 'vat' and 'total' fields.

This works fine but I need it to write the values to the table as well rather than just displaying the values in the fields so reports can be produced etc.

Anyone know the easiest way to do this?

Thanks

Any way to transfer the data in an unbound textbox into a separate table.

User enters an amount into a textbox2, and then it does some calculations that involves textbox1 and textbox2. Finally, textbox3 has the final answer. Can textbox3 overwrite textbox1's data on the table and on the form?

Also, is there an "auto date" feature in tables? If new data is put into tables, Today's date appears on the date column?

Forms :: Refreshing Textbox If User Deletes A Record From Table

Feb 6, 2015

I have a form with a Count textbox. It's control source is a field named "Audit Count" in the table "DB Audits". The idea of the textbox is to display a running count of how many audits a specific auditor has completed that day. To do this I have the textbox set up with a default value of:

Code:
=DCount("[Loan Number]","DB Audits","[Auditor] = fOSUserName() And [Audit Date] = Date()")+1

Assuming I'm using the DCount function correctly, this is supposed to count the number of [Loan Number] records entered in the "DB Audits" table by the auditor (whose name is found using fOSUserName()) on today's date. So, for example, when opening up the form at the beginning of the day the Count textbox would read 1 and when the auditor clicked Save and New it would increase to 2.

The problem I am having is something I encountered while doing some random tests of the form. If an auditor submitted an audit (let's say the 1st of the day), the form correctly displays the next count as 2. However, if the auditor were to delete the record from the underlying "DB Audits" table while the form was still open, if they were to enter a new record, the Audit Count field would display 2 even though it should be 1 (since the 1st record had been deleted).

How can I have the Count textbox refresh whenever someone deletes a record from the table while the form is still open? I tried a Requery command using the AfterDelConfirm event but I couldn't get it to work.

Here's what I've done -

txtbx1 - property sheet - control source - part
event - on enter - ...

I've built an expression -

[Table1]![part] = [txtbx1]

hoping that this would match records 1n Table1 to txtbx1
