Forms :: BrowseTo Opens Form As NewRecord Depending On Opened Record
Apr 2, 2015
I'm using a navigation control to switch between forms. In one of those forms, I have a continuous subform which is a list of Projects (source is a query) that is read-only. To edit a project, I can click on its name, which switches the form displayed in the navigation control via docmd.BrowseTo (with acEditForm as the last parameter). This works fine. The proper form opens, with the proper project being displayed.
Now, on this second form, I have on the right the list of tasks contained in the project in a continuous subform (source is a query), and on the left another subform which is kind of an "edit bar" that I use to actually edit the individual tasks. So, when I click on a task in the task list, the OnCurrent event triggers a docmd.BrowseTo command that updates the "edit bar" subform and passes the ID of the task as the WhereCondition parameter. This updates the values displayed in the Edit Bar to that of the selected task, which I can then edit.
Now here's the thing: depending on the project I open, the Edit Bar doesn't work. Actually, it looks like only one of the projects is working, while the others are not (and I managed to have a different project working, but only one works at any given try). When it doesn't work, the Edit Bar is in "NewRecord = True" for some reason. All the other properties of that subform seem to be the same between when it works and when it doesn't.
So, it looks like the same command (docmd.BrowseTo with acEditForm) opens the subform properly in acEditMode when it works, and in something else when it doesn't, depending on the parent record that's being opened.
This really gets me, I really can't figure out how that's even possible.
I suspect it might have something to do with locked records, maybe?
I have a database of books. I have a combobox listing 3 different status W M R.
W is for Whats next to read, M is for more books too read and R for books read or reading now. I can enter a new book by calling up the add a book form from any of those 3 forms.
If I forget to enter a letter in the combo box then the book is lost to those 3 forms as what they see depends on that status letter and I have to go to the table and enter a letter from there.
I want to know if I can auto populate the field (W M R) depending on which form opened the add a book form.
I'm working on the Navigation Form template in Access 2010, which is new to me. It appears that one needs to use the BrowseTo command to open up a form in the built-in subform module. I'm trying to create a couple of buttons where each button opens a form in a different data mode; one in read-only and one in add mode. Here is the syntax I used for read-only:
frmSales is the Sales form I want both of the buttons to open and frmNavigation is the Navigation form. It seems to be ignoring the data mode part at the end however. It only will open in Edit mode. Is there something I'm doing wrong with this command?
I have a form that opens from a different form based on the primary key within the original form. Unfortunately it seems to be opening a new record every time I open the form--not only from the original form but also straight from the sidebar.
The command button that opens the second form from the first uses the following VBA:
This exact coding worded perfectly in a similar set of forms that I had created; the only difference is a change in the form name & primary key field.
Add onto this, I think that the code DOES work, but then it immediately opens another new record. When I open the second form from the command button, then change to Design View, the form's Filter property is set to [Event_ID]=X (where X is the proper key from the first form) and Filter On Load is set to Yes. The X in the Filter changes accordingly when it changes in the first form. Also, every time I open the form a new record is added to the underlying table.
I've tried setting "Allow Additions" in the second form to No, but then when I open the form nothing appears. Literally; the entire form is blank, no labels, textboxes, combos, buttons or anything. When going to Design View it's still all there.
I've also checked the On_Load, On_Current & Form_Current events and found nothing. I even deleted them and the problem still occurred.
We have a database on a PC located on our network. The database is located in this computer's shared folder. Another database grabs data from this database occasionally. We're running into a problem where we cannot open the DB located in the shared folder (permissions granted) without it being a read only instance even with no users accessing the DB.
I've recently decided to move a database that had all its information on 1 table and divided it into multiple tables.
Attached is the relationship as well as the form.
The issue I have is that when I click the form, it only shows a blank record with none of previous records.
Data entry is already set to NO. I'm wondering if it's an issue with my relationships, tblStudioDescription is the parent table and the others are child tables so I linked them with the ID and set referential integrity.
I have a form based on a query. The query sorts records by ID number. When I open the form, it opens to a record that is not the lowest ID number. It's the same record each time that it opens to, but it's not the correct record There is no filter or sort order on the form, and it seems like starting with record 2 it is sorting correctly. any ideas? thanks.
This is the first time I've used this forum so, hello everyone
My first question is about filtering a form
When a user is in the menu screen and selects a command button to view details, the next form that loads shows every record within the main table. So the user can use the navigarion buttons to go through each record.
There's search criteria on this form so the user can select which ever record they like.
Because of speed issues, I'd rather the form filtered a record (whichever one) as soon as they pressed the command button.
I've thought about how i'd do this and can't really come up with much; looked at openargs but my VBA isn't that hot yet
I have a form that I built with the intention of creating new records. I want to convert it to use with existing records too. I can't seem to get it to look at anything but new records. I imagine it is a property setting and something very minor to a seasoned Access programmer.
I'm trying to add data about a form to a table when the On_Current event fires. The data I want to add is: windows login username
date and time the On_Current event occurred name of the form that was opened that the form was opened the number of the record (ID) in the table the form is based on
I have the following code
Private Sub Form_Current() If Me.NewRecord Then Call FlimOpen("OR IR No", "OPENED") Else Call FlimOpen("OR IR No", "OPENED")
[Code] ....
Excuse the use of 'FlimOpen' but I needed a unique word that I would remember (inspired by FlimFlam the cat on the children's channel CBeebies here in the UK)
I try to compile and I get an error about the wrong number of arguments or invalid property assignment. However, the event does fire correctly when I open the form or move from one record to another so something's working!
I have code for a button click event. Essentially I have a main table form that I use to enter customer data and info. I also have a button that I use to add that customer to a separate table that I use for special Customers. My code copies all the data I need copied to my other table, so I wont waste space here typing my code that actually copies the data to the new table. What I will list are the two commands I am using after that code, to close the current form (the one with the button) and open the form for entering special customer information (the form to edit data on my other table). It works flawlessly, but when it opens the other form, it opens to the first record. I want to know how to make it open to the record which I was viewing when I clicked the button to copy the data.
DoCmd.OpenForm "Special Customer Data Entry", , , Number = Me.Number DoCmd.Close acForm, "Customer Data"
I have forms that show commitments by Client, by Cost Centre, by Provider etc.
If I add new commitments or edit commitments it is done through the Commitments by Client form, as all other forms lead back to this one.
To create a new or edit an existing commitment, it is done through a Commitment Form, which goes into a query (query A)which does all the calculations. My client form has subforms based on Query A, however my other forms (commitments by Cost Centre etc) have subforms which have querys that are based on Query A . I hope that made sense.
My problem is that If I edit a commitment, the client form and subforms refrlect the changes imediately, even though they are open and I can see them changing when I change the commitments. However the other ones don't unless I close them and re-open them.
My navigation within the database is based on once a form has been opened it is set to be invisible untill called on again (i.e. visible = False).
How to requery all the forms without having to close them.
I have a list of incidents in my Incidents Management Database. It comes up as a grid view when users open the database.
This is what it looks loke (paste the following into address bar of your browser. lh5.google.com.au/snehal.dabhi/R8oc22J_RfI/AAAAAAAABz0/bbIkCzg5whk/image001.png
I want particular incident to open in a form when users double click on any particular incident from the list above. For example double clicking on the first incident (dated 1/03/2008 in the list above) should open the form below with THAT PERTICULAR incident. And double clicking on 22nd incident should open the following form with 22nd incident loaded, so users can edit that incident

Any detailed help is much appreciated. – I am too new to understand macros and vba. Thanks!
I have a access form that has a text box that holds a search term. The search term is used as a variable in a query. The query results populate a list box. Selecting a result in the list box populates the rest of the form where the record can be edited. All of that works great...sort of. When first opening the form you cannot view any records. The search function works fine and the list box populates but selecting a record does not populate the rest of the form. Attempt to navigate (next, first, etc.) and you get a "You can't go to the specified record" dialog. There is a simple fix for this. Open the form as normal. Then switch to design mode. Do absolutely nothing. Switch back to form mode. All is well.
I've searched and can only find information setting the visible property when selections are made on an open form--I want to set the visible property when the form is opened depending on which avenue the user chooses from the navigation form.
I have a navigation form (Form A) and a second form with a subform (Form B). The user will choose from a combobox, either an existing record or a new record on Form A. On Form A there are two buttons, one that will take the user to the correct record on Form B for editing and one that will open to a new record on Form B. Once Form B is open, all controls will be blank (if a new record is chosen) or with certain controls prepopulated if an existing record is chosen.
What I want to do is to hide controls on the main form (not the subform) of Form B if the user chooses an existing record. Form A's buttons work correctly to open Form B right now. I want to be able to hide prepopulated controls on Form B if the user chooses an existing record from Form A.
Here's the code I'm using to open Form B to an existing record. I'd like to set the visible property here if at all possible.
NOTE: "Form A" and "Form B" are not the actual names of my forms--it's just easier for illustration purposes here in my question.
Hey, I have 2 combo boxes. The first one gives a lis of Prefix letters for railcars. The second uses the value of the 1st and finds railcars that start with the same letters.
finally got the 2nd combo box to list the prefix and number of a railcar based on the 1st combo box and also got it to clear as each run-through starts.
Now that the user can select a number (ex. dfcv1234 as the railcar), I need to find the record with the prefix dfcv and the car number 1234 and load the record to the form for view and editing.
So far, I know it needs to be the after update event and have a select statement that finds the [key], [prefix], [car_number] that matches the value selected on the form but how do I use the key to make the record show on the form?
I open a form (EntryBasic) for users to enter data in, which is then saved to the only table in the database (MasterTable). The form (EntryBasic) has a list box with four choices: red, white, blue, orange. The button that opens the form is placed on another form (MainForm) The form (EntryBasic) record source is MasterTable.
A user is on the MainForm and needs to add a new record related to red. When user clicks on the button (NewRedEntry), I need the form to open and the list box pre-selected to red.
Is there a macro or VBA code that might simply execute this action, preferably something that can be attached to the NewRedEntry button?Even better, if there are two list boxes, code such code be applied to same NewRedEntry button, where both list box values are pre-selcted with the click of this button?
I am having a hard time with this project that I'm working on at the moment.
I have created a modal dialogue form that has a macro set to open another form and close the current form at the same time. The form that is being opened has textbox controls that have the default value set to hold the data that is in the textbox controls in the modal dialogue form that is closing. The problem is, is that when the modal closes, the controls in the next form display #Name? and the data is not copied to the next form.
I have a table which holds information relating to a fleet of vehicles; each of these vehicles is currently physically checked on a daily basis for a number of items, one of which being to check that the vehicle has valid VED (tax disc).
With the paper disc being abolished now, we have a situation where the individual using the vehicle cannot be certain about its VED status (the chances of one not being taxed is next to nil, but we are talking a fleet of nearly 1000 vehicles here, so anything is possible)
Our current database has most of the vehicle information stored already, so in theory I think I only need to add a couple of fields, which will make the table structure (roughly):
Is it possible that when a Form (not related to the table, and most likely the main switchboard form) is opened that both the MOTExpiry and VEDExpiry dates are checked, and if either or both of them are due to expire within 7 days or have already expired that a warning appears (vbaOKOnly messagebox would do fine) stating that there are vehicles that require their MOT & VED dates to be checked and updated accordingly)?
I just copied a form from one database to another and for some reason the copied form in the new database does not display. the form opens but the area with all the info is blank... When I choosed design mode it all shows up correctly but in form mode it is just blank.
Hi All, I am having problem printing a label based upon newrecord. The report prints but has no information. I think it is because it is not save to the table yet since i have this event before update.
Private Sub Form_BeforeUpdate(Cancel As Integer)
Dim stDocName As String stDocName = "rpt_inv_Labels_OCTag"
If Me.NewRecord Then
Dim strNewMsg As String
strNewMsg = "New Inventory Detected" & vbCrLf & vbCrLf & vbCrLf strNewMsg = strNewMsg & " 'YES' to Save, Print a Label and Close." & vbCrLf & vbCrLf strNewMsg = strNewMsg & " 'NO' to Save but do not Print a Label and Close." & vbCrLf & vbCrLf Beep If MsgBox(strNewMsg, vbQuestion + vbYesNo, "Print Label?") = vbYes Then ' Save Record, Print Label and close
DoCmd.OpenReport stDocName, acNormal
Else 'do nothing means save End If Else Dim strMsg As String
strMsg = "Data has changed." & vbCrLf & vbCrLf & vbCrLf strMsg = strMsg & " 'YES' to Save, Print a Label and Close." & vbCrLf & vbCrLf strMsg = strMsg & " 'NO' to Save but do not Print a Label and Close." & vbCrLf & vbCrLf strMsg = strMsg & " 'Cancel' Undo changes and Close." & vbCrLf
Beep Select Case MsgBox(strMsg, vbQuestion + vbYesNoCancel, "Save Record?") Case vbCancel DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdUndo
Case vbYes ' Save Record, Print Label and close
DoCmd.OpenReport stDocName, acNormal
Case vbNo 'do nothing means save and close
End Select End If End Sub
