Forms :: Calculated Controls Based On Weekday In Form

Sep 18, 2013

Here is the basic info:

Table has Checkbox column
BusinessDate column (mm/dd/yyyy format)
OrderTotal column (in dollars)
There are others but these are the relevant ones

In the header of the form I have a calculated control box with the following control:

=Sum(Abs(nz([Checkbox],0))*nz([OrderTotal],0)),0)

Which works just fine. The user is presented with a list of all the orders from this table in the form. They check the checkboxes and the control in the header shows the total of the records checked. I need to make 7 of these calculated controls, one for each day of the week. Is this possible? This way the user can see the order totals for each day of the week they have selected.

I tried:
=IIf(Weekday([BusinessDate])=2,Sum(Abs(nz([Pull],0))*nz([OrderTotal],0)),0)

but it still sums up the whole week as the expression holds true.I do not know VB, and I'm sure there is a really neat and easy way to do it in there. I just don't know how.

Forms :: Unhide Form Tab Controls Based On Drop Down Selection

Sep 15, 2013

I have tab control form with (5) tabs. For this discussion - Tabs 1 through 5. For a blank (new) form sheet tabs 4 & 5 need to be hidden. Based on what is selected via the drop down box (on tab 1) then tabs 4 & 5 may remain hidden or needed to be un-hidden. Example: [DropDown1]

Selection 1: stay hidden
Selection 2: unhide
Selection 3: unhide
Selection 4: stay hidden
Selection 5: unhide
Selection 6: stay hidden
Selection 7: unhide
Selection 8: stay hidden
Selection 9: stay hidden

I think one I figure this out then I can use the 'OnCurrent' event to check the drop down selection as a user selects the a record or scrolls through records.

Forms :: Plus Signs In Calculated Controls / Fields

Jan 30, 2014

Why can't I ever get these to work properly? I want to use them to ignore null fields so that I won't get the punctuation but it isn't working.

Here is what I have but the commas still show up:

=IIf([Status]=1,(+[MailBoxOrPOBox]) & (+", "+([CompanyLocID].[Column](2))) & (+" ,"+([CompanyLocID].[Column](3))),"")

is there a better way than trying to use these + signs??

Continuous Form W/ Calculated Controls

Jun 18, 2005

I am creating a continuous form where each record has a couple calculated controls. The problem is, as you scroll down through the records, the computer hasn't performed the calculations yet. It only starts to perform them once they are visible on the screen. So the result is blank fields for about 1 or 2 seconds every time you use the vertical scrollbar until they all get populated. Is there any way to get access to populate all the calculated text boxes when it is loaded, like a report is? I have played around with not using a continous form but rather creating a form with MANY text boxes on it that are filled with a loop. It works and all calculations are performed prior to displaying it on screen its just tricky to work with in a realistic situation and I figured their must be a better way.

Thanks for your help!

Forms :: Populating Controls Based On Input In Others From Reverse

Aug 3, 2015

I'm using I have a secondary control being populated by an entry from another control. I was able to find the code I needed to do this using a combo box here in this forum.

me.txtDependent=me.cboPrimary.column(#)
(specifics changed to protect my company's paranoid view of privacy)

the code itself was showing up in the secondary control instead of any value. I found though that moving the code from the On Change event for the primary control to the On Current event for the form itself everything is working beautifully.

However, I have a different task now that I need to be able to accomplish with the same two tables but in the opposite direction. I suspect that I'm going to need to create a second set of controls and maybe even a second relationship or table to do this. To use a set of specifics that I think will get this point across, if I had a master table which includes a field for "City" and a secondary table, CityState, which contains both "City" and "State", and two controls, a combo box cboCityState to look up the specific City and a text box, txtState to display the State, putting the following code in the City combo box's On Change event populates a text box with the State when the specific City is selected, or putting it in the form's On Current event will be sure that State shows up in all the copies of a form when the form is used in a search and the City is not changed :

me.txtState=me.cboCityState.column(2)

What I need to do now is to set up a control which allows me to type in the State and have the results show all records that include that State.

I'm using this in a Filter by Form environment. I know the objections to this method and the benefits to creating a dedicated search form, but this method appears to be working well in all other ways for us for now. I have several situations within this form where I have one control showing up at the initial load of the form and at the beginning of the filtering process, allowing selection of multiple values from a long list of values in a list box, for instance, (using the On Filter event) and other controls showing up as a result of the filtering process, to display the selected criteria only, for instance (using the On Apply Filter event), so I'm aware of how to make this work if that's required. I'm thinking I may need to create a second control, something like txtStateInput, to accept the State search criteria and another, something like txtCityResults, to show the cities that are part of the resultant records.

Forms :: Hiding / Unhiding Tab Controls Based On Combo Box Selection

Oct 16, 2013

I have frmIncident that has a 2-column combo box (cmbIncidentType). Column (0) is IncidentType, Column (1) is YES/NO. This combo box feeds from a Query and currently has about 15 "types" of which 4 have a "Yes" tied to them, then rest "No".There are situated on a TabControl (tabIncident) with 5 sheet tabs. If the Incident Type selected in the Combo Box has a corresponding "Yes" in Column (1) then all 5 sheet tabs need to be visible. If it is "No", then only three of the five are visible. Here it he current code I am using for the AfterUpdate event on the combo box:

Private Sub cmbIncidentType1_AfterUpdate()
If Me.cmbIncidentType1.Column(1) = "Yes" Then
pgEmerIncidentRpt.visible = True
pgNarrClose.visible = True
Else

[code]...

When I open the form is will set the proper sheet tabs that need to be visible, however once I cycle to the next record, or select a different Incident Type, even one with a "YES' in column (1), it will only show the (3) sheet tabs. I can never get it to show all 5.

In the code, the only (2) sheet tabs that need to visible = true or visible = false are shown, starting with "pg".

Queries :: Change SQL Where Based On Form Controls

Jun 30, 2015

I have a form with a combobox, textbox, a button and a listbox.

Currently the button checks if the textbox is empty and if it is, it runs a SQL query to select data using the combobox value in the where clause, else it selects data using the textbox value in the where clause

I need to be able to type or select values in both controls and use those values in the SQL query as a where.

Modules & VBA :: Module To Modify Report Controls Based On Form?

Feb 12, 2015

I am trying to create a customizable report that would allow the users to choose fields. I have a pretty common code that I found online and adapted it, but it fails on the first SetReportControl function.

The error reads: Run-time error 2465: Application-defined or object-defined error

Could it be something as simple as an incorrect reference? I have checked multiple times, but I am stumped.

Code:
Option Compare Database
Option Explicit
Sub MakeReport()

[Code].....

This is a trial run, in the end I need to be able to open a report, then adjust the Report controls within 1 or more subreports inside the main report. That is a battle for another day.

Form Based Parameter Query With Multiple Controls Used For One Criteria

Nov 14, 2012

My form-based search mechanism uses controls to set the parameters for the query data source.

I have one field call quantity in stock. I could you a Between and And method to allow the end user to input the stock quantity they want.

HOWEVER, i would love it for the user to first select the Comparison Operator (e.g. > , <, >=, <=) from a combo box and then in an adjacent text box, enter the quantity.

The expression i entered in the query goes something like this.... Forms![frmSearch]![cboRange] & [Forms]![frmSearch]![txtQuantity]

When i try and run this, i get the message "THe expression is too complex to be evaluated".

Calculated Controls

Jan 24, 2005

I have a main form which shows customer personal details including their budget and a subform which shows the costs for each course they book. The sub form has 4 boxes which I use to capture course fee, travel fees,subsistance and other expenses (along with other details such as course code etc). These cost details are stored in the table study_leave_recs in the respective 4 fields. I show on the subform the total spend for each course being booked using a calculated control. On the main form I use four dsum statements added together to show the total spend per customer.
=DSum("[COUR_ACT_FEE]","study_leave_recs ","BUDGET_HOLDER_ID=[study_leave_recs].[Form]![budget_holder_id]")+DSum("[COUR_ACT_TRAVEL]","study_leave_recs ","BUDGET_HOLDER_ID=[study_leave_recs].[Form]![budget_holder_id]")+DSum("[COUR_ACT_SUBSISTANCE]","study_leave_recs ","BUDGET_HOLDER_ID=[study_leave_recs].[Form]![budget_holder_id]")++DSum("[COUR_ACT_OTHER_EXPEN]","study_leave_recs ","BUDGET_HOLDER_ID=[study_leave_recs].[Form]![budget_holder_id]")

It works ok but is there a better way of doing this? Also is there any way I can use the resultant output to calculate / show the remaining budget (the budget is held in the general table "people"? I'm having trouble using the above statement to subtract the calculated spend from the budget box shown in the main form!!

I would appreciate any help, I seem to have spent ages on this on! Thanks in advance. Regards Peter

Or can I have the controls there and lock them to a user?

I have a DB of staff directory and I want to lock it so users can only view information, supervisors can edit and admin have full control.

I've done it so far by creating a different form and controls for each level but it a lot of work and queries. Is there a simpler way to do it?

Forms :: One Form Controls Affects All Records?

Jun 25, 2013

I have a form where you enter a Case number (Primary key) and EmployeeID (foreign Key), the employeeID must match a employeeID held in the employee table. Within this Case form, I have a subform called Account which has an autonumber Primary key called accountID. Each of these accounts will have a questionnaire. So I created the questions in the same table (account). So Q1, Q2, Q3 etc. which are Questions relating to each AccountID, one accountID can have one questionnaire.

What is working fine is I can enter an account NUMBER which is a field in my account table (which creates a new AccountID(autonumber)) and can happily check the checkbox, fill out the text fields move to the next record and the checkbox is unticked and text boxes are blank (default state) which is great as I want them to ready for new input (new accountnumber/id).

My problem is assume I create my very first account number which would be say AccountID(0), I want all textboxes for the three questions disabled until the checkbox is ticked. So thats ok, I can put the default value of chkbox to FALSE, and in VBA I can do the on_checkbox_click, if chkbox.value = true then textbox1.enabled = true else textbox1.enabled = false. I can do that for the other two textboxes in the Chkbox click event.

When I Tick the checkbox it enables the textboxes, which is good, but when I create/move to the next record, instead of these textboxes being disabled as default, they are enabled because i ticked the chkbox for the first record. I dont want the manipulation of one AccountsIDs questionnaire to affects the other records. If I add an unbound textbox which I want to display a message if the chkbox is ticked, then if I tick it on one record, it has the displayed message on all records. How can this be if each questionnaire is independently i.e each questionnaire is for ONE accountID.

It seems the textboxes etc are not unique to each accountID but they should be because they are in the Account table and when I enter values and use the checkboxes without doing the disabling or showing a textbox comment, they are separate and work great, but when I use my code to manipulate the flow of a questionnaire for each account i.e enabling textbox/showing textbox comment, it changes the formatting on the other records questionnaire which I don't want as each questionnaire will be different, so a chkbox may enable a question on one ID but not on another as it wont be relevant, so at the moment I only have ONE truly working questionnaire which works for ONE account , but I want it to work uniquely for each account.

Forms :: Highlight Mandatory Controls On A Form Tab

May 15, 2013

I am trying to provide a visual highlight for users of a multi tabbed form. I do a check as users go from tab and tab and i.e. on exit event and I would like to highlight all mandatory fields that have been left incomplete.

I did a test with one control and it worked as expected with the after update event of the specific control.

I then altered the code to add another control, but it does not work as expected. It only highlights one control and not the other. I just recently started using vba, I adapt the code to fit multiple controls and make it work as expected.

Private Sub Ctl2_frm_tab1_Exit(Cancel As Integer)
If (Len(Form_2.cmb_arName& "") = 0 Or IsNull(Form_2.cmb_arName)) Or _
(Len(Form_2.cmb_val & "") = 0 Or IsNull(Form_2.cmb_val)) Then
Cancel = True
MsgBox "Please complete the highlighted control", vbCritical + vbOKOnly
