Forms :: Cancel On Load Event When Pressing Command Button
Aug 21, 2013
I have a form (Pipeline) with an on load event that automatically directs the user to a new empty record.
Code:
Private Sub Form_Load()
DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNewRec
End Sub
Now my problem is that I am trying to design a 'search form' that will allow the user to look up a specific record in the main form by pressing a command button. Creating the search form is easy enough. I cannot figure out how to override the on load event in the main form when pressing the command button.
As it is right now, the button opens the form and then go directly to a new record.
I have a form with a control for the user to enter some data and then two command buttons 'OK' and 'Cancel'
For the OnExit event in the control I have a procedure that check the user input and if incorrect, opens a message box with an error message asking the user to correct the data. It then cancels the event so the focus remains in the current control.
However if the user presses the 'Cancel' command button on the form to cancel & close the form, the OnExit event for the current control still fires and asks the user to correct the data.
In my code in the control, how can I recognise that the Cancel command button has been pressed, so I can cancel the OnExit event and close the form?
I have a form which contains several controls and a listbox. I have set the Default setting to yes for a command button that returns the results of the search, so when i click the Enter key on any control (with the exception of other command buttons), the result is returned.
Question: I want to prevent the Default command button from activating when pressing Enter from the listbox.
I thought of using the KeyDown event with this code If KeyCode = vbKeyReturn Then 'do something End If but i can't get it to disregard the default
I've created a form including a text field and a search button - and have added a separate/specific filter button as well as a "New Record" button - but now when I press enter twice in the text field it opens a the New Record form.
I have a tabbed form in a navigation form with a chart on it. The records source of the chart is a query. The query runs when you click the tab and takes a long time. I changed the Row Source of chart to "" and that eliminates the query running on form load. I've read many posts on changing that row source when a command button is clicked. I tried
in the onclick event of the command button. This doesn't work. I've tried many variations of the syntax. I don't know if I have to tell the query to run after the row source is changed.
On a side note, the query criteria is based on beginning and end dates entered into text boxes on the form. This all works if the query loads when the form is opened.
I have a continuous form based on table "INCOMES" that shows all the payments received, which mediums can be (field "PMNT_MEDIUM"):
- check - transfer - taxes - cash
Table "INCOMES" is filled using another form, but in this particular form I just want to show "check", "transfer" and "cash" (not "taxes") so that I can track all the cash incomes.
Note: taxes are loaded because they appear in my invoices and I need them there to reach the invoice total amount. So my form has a search bar which allows me to search by PMNT_MEDIUM listing all "checks", all "cash" or all "transfer". I can also search by payment number (meaning: check number). To that end I have a "search" button that applies the filter. And I have another button that "cleans" the filtering by "putting a "" in the search-bar and then calling the "on click" of the search button".
What I need is, no matter if I click over the "search" or "clean" button, it NEVER shows me the "taxes".Search button, on click code:
If IsNumeric(Me.busq_chq_med) Then Me.Filter = "[PMNT_MEDIUM_NUMB] =" & Me.SEARCH_BAR Else Me.Filter = "[PMNT_MEDIUM] like'" & Me.SEARCH_BAR & "*'" Me.Filter = "[PMNT_MEDIUM] like'" & Me.SEARCH_BAR & "*' or [INVOICE] like'" & Me.SEARCH_BAR & "*'" End If Me.FilterOn = True
hey all, I am trying to load a print wizard after clicking on a command button. I am trying to use my filtered data to select specific fields to print. On the fly kind of report. I need to have the ability to use my filtered data to create a specific report. Any ideas?? Thanks
I have an app that is browsing a survey. When the survey is in simple 'browse' mode, I want to be able to emulate the effect of a SkipResponse. (A SkipResponse is when selecting a particular value causes the normally sequential processing of survey questions to become non-linear. A sort of If Response = thisvalue then next question is something else) I can 'request' the SkipResponse by using Ctrl/Alt click, and then emulate returning from the target question by using Ctrl/Shift Click.
My problem is that I want to do the same thing (for a return) by allowing Ctrl/Shift on the Exit button. If I just use a regular mouseup evvent, it will complete, but will then go ahead and run the code for the Click event, to exit the survey. What I would like is to be able to cancel the processing of the Click event from within the handler of the MouseUp event.
I have a button that when I press it it goes to new screen where I can add new data in, and then save it.I have 10 texboxes in this form, how can I when press the button to add data let it on 3 texboxes show info eg. 4321MAG01- and when I am on the new form I can change or add to it. eg 4321MAG01-123
I added several records in another table but it wont show the records until I press the Refresh button at the ribbon of Home-> Refresh. How can i view the records automatically without pressing the Refresh button?
I've got a DB, which has 3 forms ( all 'under' 3 navigation buttons/tabs ). The main form ( Client's form ) is set to show first, and currently has a recordsource of about 1350 records. I think the size of the recordsource, and the fact it 'loads' the other two forms all 'in one go', is slowing it down ( between 5 and 10 secs. to load ).
I read I should set the Visible properties of forms, not shown immediately, to false, only setting them to True in the On_Load event - when Tab is selected. Ideal I thought. However, I can't find this property in the Form's property sheet.
- I have a parent form bound to a parent table with a subform bound to a subtable.
- The parent does not allow data entry and has its sole field filled by a listbox.
- The subForm is a data entry form which contains two buttons in addition to it's fields: btnCancel and btnOK
-btnOK checks to ensure that all required fields are filled out and then saves and closes the parent form. - ALL OK
- btnCancel closes undoes any changes andcloses the form - ALL OK
The issue I have is with the user utilizing the Parent form x button to close the form. For uniformity I would like to not remove this button but would like it to prompt the user whether to discard the changes if the form is dirty.
I attempted the following on both the parent and sub forms to no avail. I can't even get the event to trigger:
Code: Private Sub Form_BeforeUpdate(Cancel As Integer) Dim rspSaveorDiscard As VbMsgBoxResult rspSaveorDiscard = vbYes
If Me.Dirty Then intSaveorDiscard = MsgBox("Are you sure you want to close without saving?", vbYesNo, "Discard Changes")
[Code] .....
I was under the impression that when closing a form using the x button the before_update event was triggered first, then the close event, then the unload event. How should I handle this?
There are 4 unbound dropdown list box that will have a default value of empty string. All 4 must have values entered (data is required).Once all 4 are required - the bottom 5 text box will become enabled (optional data).Forcing the user to click on a Validation Button
Some users type then use the mouse to select the next.Other users type to select then tab.The trick is: After filling in the 4th listbox and validating all 4 have values, the event must trigger code to enable the 5 optional text boxes below. This provides a seamless data entry environment.
I have been doing this in other places, but the transisition after the last required field is complete gets ugly.If Trim(cmbBoxname1 & "") = vbNullString ' check all 4..If it is the 4th one, the event seems not to happen quick enough for the bottom 5 text boxes to be enabled so the user can continue with data entry.
I am rewriting an old Access 2003 database in Access 2010. When creating new command buttons, the current theme gives them a default appearance. I need to apply this appearance to old command buttons. I know there is a way to select the default button and apply its properties to others quickly. I have done it before but didn't write the process down .
i have a password logon form, after the user enters his password he then has to click on the button to validate and move to the next form.i have been asked to set this so that the user only has to hit enter on the keyboard to do this.
I have docmd.sendobject that opens Outlook to send an email, etc. However if the user does not send the email and cancels out of the message Access is asking the user if they want to debug. How can I simply have Access return to where the user was before they hit the command button that launched Outlook. I don't want them to go into the code. In fact I don't even want a message of any type - I thought I could trap the cancel somehow and code for it...
i dont want a user to be able to change a value in a combo box if a textbox is not null. im not sure what to add on the onenter event. is there not somthing like cancel=true
I have created a web-database (? - There are globes over all the forms and tables icons) based on the Issues & Tasks template. This means that most of the data is entered and seen on the "Main" form, which has two tabs - Open Issues and Closed Issues. I have created a form that allows people at my work to input the necessary data and save it, so that it will show up on one of the two tabs. However, once a record has been created, I want to be initially locked if the ID/PK is clicked, so that data can't be changed or entered inadvertently.
SO, I changed the code so that when the ID/PK for a record is clicked, it brings up a different form, but one that looks exactly like the one that is brought up when entering a new form, but I locked all of the fields so that the information cannot be changed. It seems from what I have read that I can create a button on this form so that when clicked, it unlocks the fields on the form so that they can be changed, and then when clicked again it will lock the fields again. Is this true? If so, how can I do it? Or is there something similar I can do? I have seen codes that I could copy and paste, but I cannot figure out the place to copy and paste codes in Access 2010.
I have changed the Form properties so that Data Entry and all the "Allows" are set to No...
Basically I want to put a code in the "on load" event of a form that enables or disables navigation buttons based on a value in a table (the table has 1 record and 1 column).
So if the value is "A", I want to hide navigation buttons on load; if it is "B", I want to show navigation buttons on load.
I know I can set this property in each form, but I have a number of forms that I want to configure at the same time.
My problem is that I don't know how to reference the value in the table.
Is there a way to cancel a form's close event? If a user clicks the form's close button, I want a msgbox to ask if they are sure, and if yes continue and close, else cancel the forms close event. I know how to perform the msgbox and the if statement. I can not figure out how to cancel the form's close event.
I am trying to get my program to cancel a send e-mail command if certain things aren't filled out. Instead it is supposed to pop up with a message and then put the pointer in that field. The message box pops up, but the e-mail command is not cancelled. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?

Being dealing with my database and having quite some trouble with it. Is it possible to track down what the users did, during the time they login into, database, is it possible to prompt users for password and username when they buttons for like, delete cmd, or update command.
Just a breif idea on what im trying to do.(hopefully it won't confused you all) Im trying to created a 2 main username. One is for admin group and another is for users group. Then users can login in to database, however whenever the users update or delete entries in the database, the user will prompt for their username and password (not the users group login ). Is it possible to build a table to store in the username and password for the prompting purposes one.
Sorry for confusing question. Actually im trying to think of another way, but for now this complicated event all i have think of. Feel free to voice your suggestion here. Thanks alot. TQ
