Forms :: Checking For A Filtered Duplicate Value On A Form Before Closing

Apr 11, 2014

Below is some code that I'm struggling with and I get an error message "Type Mismatch".

Description: The database contains multiple projects and the subset of each project is a release. The "PublishedNumber" can't be a duplicate within a release, but it can be a duplicate within the table where the data is stored. There can however be multiple occurrences of 0.

Here's my code:

Dim stLinkCriteriaRelease As String
Dim stLinkPublishedNumber As String
Dim DuplicateNumber As Variant

stLinkCriteriaRelease = "[AssociatedRelease]=" & [AssociatedRelease]
stLinkPublishedNumber = "[PublishedNumber]=" & [PublishedNumber]

[Code] ....

Modules & VBA :: Checking Multiple Subform For Values Before Closing

Jan 29, 2014

I am looking to check 3 sub forms for values and if they contain any then delete them. After a bit of googling I discovered that you should use recordset.recordcount - to which I tried but I get method or data not found - is this a valid method?

My code to which Im using is:

If Me.NoneChargeable_Admin_subform.Recordset.RecordCount >= 1 And Me.NoneChargeable_Manufact_subform.Recordset.RecordCount >= 1 And Me.NoneChargeable_Research_subform.Recordset.RecordCount >= 1 Then
DoCmd.RunSQL "DELETE NoneChargeable_Admin.*, NoneChargeable_Manufact.*, NoneChargeable_Research.* " & vbCrLf & _
"FROM NoneChargeable_Admin, NoneChargeable_Manufact, NoneChargeable_Research;"
End If
DoCmd.Close acForm, "NoneChargeableHrs_frm", acSaveNo
End Sub

Checking For Duplicate Values

May 10, 2005

Hi,

I have a form in a database for our products (doors). I have a button that duplicates one of these records (all new products are based on standard template records).

When this record is created a new product number is produced by the system which was the number of the original (template) record plus the customer enquiry number.

I want to be able to warn the user if they are trying to save this newly created record with a product number that already exists so that they can alter the number to be unique. It will also warn them if they re-number an existing record to another already existing product number. Since the field is defined as unique, at present the system says absolutely nothing and just doesn't save the newly created record which seems is a touch annoying!

I have tried several things with dlookup, dcount arguments but can't seem to get anything to work.

Hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance

John

Checking For Duplicate Numbers

Jan 31, 2006

I have a form in which new equipment is added. I want to be able to check when the ID number is added (first field on the form) that there is not a duplicate ID number. If I wait till the end of the form and save, then Access tells me that there is a duplicate present but by then I have spent time putting in all the rest of the data.

If have added this code in the before update section for the relevent field, but it doesn't seem to work. Can someone please help clarify or suggest an easier way

Dim IntIDCheck as integer
Dim Response

IntIDCheck = DCount("[EquipmentID]","Equipment Inventory","[EquipmentID] =" & Me.EquipmentID)

if IntIDCheck > 0 then
Response = MsgBox ("Duplicate Present")
Me.EquipmentID.SetFocus
Cancel = True
Exit Sub
End if

Thanks

Help Checking For Duplicate Entries

Dec 28, 2006

Hello,

I'm new to using VBA for MS Access. May I enlist your help, Please.

I'm working on a human resources database for a group of employees. I'm trying to automate their login process after they have opened the database so that each employee's privacy is respected. Using an initial form, employees are separated into "New User" or "Returning User". My problem concerns setting up the "New User" in the database.

The New User is directed to form "frm_NU". The form has several unbound fields which are later carried to the table "tbl_Employees". Two of the fields on the form are used to create the EmployeeID. Those are Initials [INI] and Phone Extension [EXT]. The EmployeeID will be used in a filter so that only that employee's information is made available to the user (simulated Privacy).

Because the employees are unfamiliar with MS Access and its cryptic error messages, I need to create a message box which will give a plain English warning when a user attempts to use an existing ID to create a new record. [EmployeeID] is a field in the table. it is set as a key and does not allow duplicates.

When a new user enters his/her initials and phone extension I want the new ID to be compared to the table and if found, a message should appear. This is a preemptive strike to prevent the user from getting to the more cryptic MS Access error message.

I've tried using Dlookup and Dcount to try to pass some meaningful data to the If statement variable VarX to trigger the message box; assuming that Varx should be something other than Null or Empty

Dim EmpID As Variant
Dim VarX As Variant

EmpID = [INI] & [EXT]

VarX = DLookup([EmployeeID], "qry_Employees", [EmployeeID] = [EmpID])

If VarX <Is Not Empty> Then
X = MsgBox("Another record already exists by that name", vbOKOnly)
Else
Y = MsgBox("Passed", vbOKOnly)
End If

I keep getting an error at the DLookup formula or DCount formula saying: Run-time error; 2001 You canceled the previous operation. It also appears that the DLookup never looks up anything nor does DCount count anything even though I'm purposely entering duplicate information which exists in "qry_Employees". I was expecting VarX to be either the duplicate ID or a record number or record count or something.

Any ideas or constructive suggestions?

Thanks,

Goh

Forms :: Refresh Current Form With Filtered Records

Sep 13, 2013

I have a form that displays records from a table.

When opened it displays all records (no selection yet).

I put would like to put 2 buttons to filter records (Male/Female).

I'm thinking of 2 possible options:

1-on click run a script that will close current form, then reopen it with selection criteria
2-directly apply a filter on the current form that would automatically refresh itself with the right records

Another (heavy, inelegant?) solution would be to create duplicates of this form. they would be loaded from separate queries that select the right records in either choice.

Forms :: Closing A Query From A Form

Dec 24, 2014

I have created a form with buttons which runs queries. The parameters I need for the query are being passed through just as I wish and the relevant query is run correctly. However, if I then press the button on the form with different parameters I get the results from the previous query. I can only solve this by closing the query before pressing the button. Is there an easy way to close the query to prevent this from happening. In case this is relevant, the only data which I am returning from the query is stored in the windows clipboard.

Forms :: Closing Form With Subform

Jul 8, 2014

I have a form with a subform. There is a close button on the main form which I have applied a key command of Alt + c and when the focus is on the main form it closes the form as you expect. But if the focus is on the subform, using Alt+c does nothing. I am trying to give the user a way to avoid using the mouse (so they do not have to click on the button from the subform. Also it is confusing that the key command doesn't always work in the view of the user, and in reality he is on the subform.)

So my thinking is:

1. Can I create a close button on the subform (and give it the key command of Alt + c) and in the code close the form and subform, if so - how to I refer to the form/subform?

2. Is there some way to apply the key command of Alt + c on the subform to activate the close button on the main form?

Forms :: Access 2010 - Opening New Form And Closing Current Form?

Mar 14, 2013

I am using Access 2010 - Version 14.0.61.29.5000 (32-bit)

I am building a custom Export Wizard to export data to Excel using the Report Wizard for the basic ideas.

All I am trying to do is have a [Back] button on a form to open another form and close the current form.

Private Sub cmdBack_Click()
DoCmd.OpenForm "frm_ExportWizardPage2", , , , , , Nz(Me.OpenArgs)
DoCmd.Close acForm, "frm_ExportWizardPage3"
End Sub

The new form is opening but then the current form is not closing. All forms are the same size, shape and positioned centrally although this should not make any difference.

Could this be anything to do with which form has the focus when I open the new form?

Forms :: Database To Record Appointments - Filtered Lists On A Form?

Oct 18, 2014

I'm constructing a database to record appointments. I want my users to input their appointments on one half of a form (I can manage that bit) but on the other half I want them to be able to see a list of the appointments they already have booked that day (with any patient) or what the patients already have booked that day (with themselves and any other therapists).

The appointment fields they will need to see are:

start time
end time
patient/therapist (depending on if they are viewing their own or the chosen patients' appointments
type of appointment (physiotherapy etc)
location

The date won't need to be seen but will dictate which day's appointments are listed.

At it's simplest I could get away with a list of the day's appointments for the patient and date the therapist has typed into the form to start the record.

Ideally I'd like them to be able to choose whether to see a list of the patient's appointments for that day or their own. If there's room I would display both.

Here's the final, 'moon-on-a-stick' bit... it would be great if I could show the appointments in time slots rather than just as a list. From what I can tell that's quite tricky to pull off but i thought I would ask anyway...

At the moment I don't even know what keywords to look up - is this 'embedding a report in a form' or 'inserting a filtered list' and so on.

Forms :: Go To New Record On Subform After Closing Pop Up Form

Jul 9, 2013

I have a form (frmAuditEntry) that includes a subform (sfrmAuditDetail). The user will enter audit information on the subform. There is a check box on the subform to identify containers that had errors in selection. When the box is check by the user, a pop up form opens where the user can enter the details regarding the type of error. The audit number and the container ID are carried over from the main form to the pop up form to link the information.

This is the code I have in the AfterUpdate event of the checkbox:

Private Sub Errors_AfterUpdate()
Dim rs As Object
Dim strBookmark As String
strBookmark = Me.ContainerID
Me.Requery

[Code] ....

This works great and keeps the focus on the record the user checked having errors so the right information transfers tot he pop up form fields. When the pop up form is closed, the focus goes back to the subform but keeps the focus on the container ID control of the record that the user previously checked as having errors (hope that makes sense).

What I would like to happen is this: When the pop up form is closed, I want the focus to go back to the subform but to go to the last blank record on the subform (if the user moved off the record before checking the error checkbox) or go to a new record (if the user did not move to a new record already before checking the error checkbox).

Forms :: Continuous Form - Uncheck Boxes Before Closing

Sep 12, 2013

I have a search form (Form1) that sends the results to another form (Form2) using OpenArgs.

When Form2 opens with the filtered records, it may display 1 or more records (for example, the order number searched for in Form1, the customer may have bought 2 items)

So with my 2 records displayed in my continuous Form2, I have included a bound check box that can be checked by a sales team member of staff if we need to send a replacement item(s).

If the sales person has started the process and checked the box for both records but decides to close the form instead of reordering the goods for the customer (hometime) and decides to Close Form2.

How do I program Access to uncheck both boxes so the table is not updated with the check for each of the items, as this will start a chain reaction and the goods will get packed and shipped. It currently just unchecks the first record if I include Me.ItemSelectedResend = False in the Close form vba code.

I thought about just including a message box on the screen prompting the user to uncheck the boxes before closing, but surely there must be an automatic way in which I can do it.
