Forms :: Combining Split Database Or Easier Way To Update Forms?

Aug 5, 2015

I've split my database into a front end and back end which was relatively easy. I did this so that multiple users can have their own front end. But if I have to go in and change the back end and front end, does that mean I have to remake all the front ends? Right now I'm finding that if I delete my linked tables on the front end and then import them into the back end again and change everything on one screen and then split it again is the only option I know of.

Easier Way For Unbound Forms?

Mar 11, 2005

I have a form that's currently bound that I would love to make unbound. However, this form has about 400-500 data controls (ckboxes, cboboxes, txtboxes, etc). Is there an easier way to fill the data than

with rcd
data1 = !data1
data2 = !data2
....
data500 = !data500
end with

?????????

this seems extremely tedious, but I'll do it if there's really no other way. Too bad people are too stupid for bound forms

Thanks

Forms :: Split Database In A Shared Folder

Nov 9, 2014

I have recently been experimenting with adding an Access database to a shared folder (in a network HomeGroup) and have it working on two networked PCs. Then tried the same with the database split but I get a path error on the PC joined to the HomeGroup (where the database resides) whenever the backend (tables) are accessed by a form or from the Tables listing. If I however open the backend file directly from the file directory, the tables all open as expected.

The path stated as being invalid in the error message starts with "C:Usersetc..... instead of LAF-PCUsersetc..... so it looks (to me at least) that it is attempting to load the file from the local hard drive rather than the host computer.

Why a split database works differently in this situation than a non-split.

Forms :: Display Images On A Form In A Split Database

Jan 2, 2015

Am trying to display images on a form in a split database. I add the attachment field to the associated form's table and add the attachment control to the form but cannot get the image(s) to display on the form (the control remains blank). I can add the image(s) in table view (and display them) but double clicking on the form control also does nothing.

I think I must be doing at least the basics correctly as if I try the same thing to an earlier, non-split version of the database, all works as expected.Are there additional steps required to do this thing in a split database?

General :: Split Database - Users Seeing Blank Forms

Apr 10, 2013

I have a split database consisting of an ACCDB backend helf on a shared drive, and a local ACCDR frontend distributed through email. I recently distributed a copy of the ACCDR to a user, and she says that the main menu opens fine, but when she clicks a button to open a form, the form opens but is completely blank. I've googled some possible causes for this (e.g. on Allen Brown's website) and none seem to be relevant, or would explain why this started happening all of a sudden. I can't reproduce this bug at all.

Forms :: Split Database - Opening Related Record On Different Form

Aug 11, 2014

I have a split DB that is in its (hopefully) finally stages of development. Using Access 2010. It is being developed both at work and at home on a 64 bit machine. The remainder of the machines are 32 bit.

All of a sudden one of my most basic sets of code doesn't want to work, but only on my machine at work. It works fine on my home computer and on other computers at work. It is the simplest of codes, run from frmNameA:

DoCmd.OpenForm "frmNameB", acNormal, , "[SequenceNumber] = " & Me![SequenceNumber], acFormEdit, acWindowNorm

The desired sequence of events is to open frmNameA, find the active clients and then click on the [SequenceNumber] to bring up the related record on frmNameB.

When I do this on my computer at work, it asks for the query criteria for the [SequenceNumber] and the criteria for another field. On the home computer and others at work, it works just fine.

In a related problem, I have the following code on the OnLoad event for frmNameB. It opens all the related records for active clients that are in frmNameB. But if there are no related records, it is supposed to cancel the event. Again, it works fine on my home computer and others at work, but not my work computer.

Private Sub Form_Open(Cancel As Integer)
'code when opened from frmNameA and no record exists in frmNameB
Dim MyReply
If ClientID = "" Or IsNull(ClientID) Then
MyReply = MsgBox("No record exits in frmNameB, Do You Want to Exit?", vbOKOnly)
If MyReply = vbOK Then
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdUndo
DoCmd.Close acForm, "frmNameB", acSaveNo
End If
End If
End Sub

What I can't figure out is why this may be happening, where I might look for errors, and what I might do to correct this.

Split Database. Update Linked Tables If Back End Moved.

Dec 7, 2007

Hi.

I'm about to move to a back end / front end system, from a single database file. Before I do so, I want to make sure I have all bases covered so to speak.

My back end file will reside on a server. I am aware that path names are sometimes changed by network administrators without warning.

From tests, I notice that, if the path to the back end can't be found, one cannot open the front end database file at all (Access 2003).

My question is: if my back end file gets moved, or the path changed, how can I get into my front end file to update the linked tables.

Many thanks in advance.

Mat.

Forms :: Tracking Database - Update Information In Subforms Automatically From Main Form

Jul 6, 2013

I am attempting to create a patient tracking database for a clinic I work in and I am stuck at one small but major part.

I have a parent form called frm_Patient_index. On this form you can enter patient details such as personal details, observations ect. I need to create a lab request form for certain tests to be performed.

I want so that a button on the frm_patient_index form opens a subform where the relevent tests can be requested via tick boxes. Now here is my problem I have managed to create all of that except for the information to be entered into the frm_lab_request automatically and get SAVED to its corresponding table. It will not save for me.

I can get the information such as Badge Number, First Name, Surname and DOB to all enter into the fields automatically but getting them to save to the table is not happening.

Combining Queries With Forms

Feb 18, 2006

I'm new to the forum as well as I am new in using MS Access, so please don't lough :) I wasn't even sure whether this is the right subforum to post to....

Anyway here it goes....I have this really big database (nearly 5000 records) and I was wondering how could I make a query, perhaps outside of the Design View, and making it appear like a form e.g. let's say I want the query to display in form style (or even report...) the rest of the fields concerning a certain record when I just give the ID number of a person.

Should I turn to code solution?

Help anyone?????

Forms :: Combining Values In Expression Using IIF?

Apr 30, 2014

I'm trying to create a text box on a form which displays a value based on numerous criteria.

Basically I manage a database of employees. Some are external employees, some are internal. Some have left the organisation, and some are still employees.

I have two fields which need to be pulled into this expression:

is_leaver - text box, with value either "Yes" or NULL

organisation - name of organisation (text)... lets say my organisation is called Happy People Ltd

The text box I have is called employee_status

I can see that there are 4 possible combinations:

1. Internal Employee - Is an internal employee and still works here
2. Internal Ex-Employee - Is an internal employee but has left
3. External Employee - Is an external employee who still works here
4. External Ex-Employee - Is an external employee who has left

So far I've managed this:

Code:
=IIf(IsNull([is_leaver]),"Employee","Ex-Employee")

This displays whether they're an employee or ex-employee. How would I form the expression to combine the two fields, and calcuate whether they're internal or external?

Due to the way the form is set up I don't want to have two separate text boxes and would prefer to combine it.

Forms :: Combining Date And Time Values Using DateDiff

Jul 8, 2014

I'm trying to create my own database dealing with hiring bikes on a daily basis.

I have created a form for the basic input, including StartDate, StartTime, EndDate and EndTime, followed by TotalDays. I added the time field so that if a client brings a bike back an hour or two after the pickup time on a later date (sounds complicated - e.g he takes it on Monday at 12pm until Thursday 14pm) then he would be charged for an extra day. It is similar to the car rental system used worldwide.

The TotalDays is currently using a simple expression =EndDate-StartDate.

Is there any way to make the form incorporate the time difference so that if EndTime-StartTime>1 then it would add an extra day to the "=EndDate-StartDate" calculation.

Cannot Edit Forms In Split DB

We were getting ready to distribute it and start using it when I noticed something on one of the forms that i wanted to change. When I go into the fe to make the revision, it will only open as "read only". I can save a copy to my desktop and make the changes that i want, but then i cant save this copy back to the server because it wont let me over-write a file that is read only.

Forms :: Using Split Form With Datasheet - Find Not Working

Nov 9, 2013

I'm using a split form with the datasheet on the left.

When I use the 'Find' in the Navigation buttons at the bottom of the form, it refuse to find text in a particular text box.

The text box is a memo field and is enabled.

Example:

I have text in the memo field which is a title of an episode - "The Outcast."

When I start typing "the" it finds this text in the memo field. But when I type the entire title it the finds the text in another field. ie "out."

I've tried the 3 different Search setting in options. When I use the Find command from the ribbon it work ok as long as I select the text box to search in first.

Forms :: Hide Columns On Datasheet Of Split Form

Jun 3, 2015

I am pretty new to VBA and I am having the same problem of hiding and un-hiding columns on a datasheet of a split form. I am building a system that will be used in front of customer and therefore wish to hide columns that contain cost sensitive data. The same forms need to be able to show the Sales Rep the hidden columns simply by ticking a box. Basically a toggle on and off of hidden columns.

I have been playing around with the code below (which i found in another forum) to hide the Field called COO when I click the tick box called chkHIdeFields check box. This works on a Single form but not on a datasheet of a split form.

Private Sub chkHideFields_Click()
' Note: vbTrue = -1
If Me.chkHideFields = vbTrue Then
Me.COO.Visible = True
Else: Me.COO.Visible = False
End If
End Sub

I have been able to hide the column of my split form by using the ColumnHidden property of the On Load event just as a proof of concept that the ColumnHidden property actually works to hide a column, which it does. This is the code that im using to hide the column called COO.

Me.COO.ColumnHidden = True

However if I then set it to = False and then close and open the form, it doesn't unhide the column. the only way I can unhide the column is to do it from the Form view via the un-hide dialogue pop up box.

I have two issues here, the first one is getting the form to recognize when to hide and when to show the column of the datasheet on the split form and the second is to get the code to for the check box method.

Lastly once I get it working for 1 field I need to be able to define a list of 7 or 8 other fields all at the same time.
