Updating A Field On A Form-why This Works

May 29, 2007

hi,

I just want to understand why this works. I have some fields on a form that I'd like to let the user change. If I put something like "rs.update me.first, trim(me.first)" in the form's event procedure , "on update" why doesnt it like it?
I moved the same code to the field's on dirty event and it is ok. I don't understand why it doesn't let me update one field on the form's event. (Oh, my records can be selected by a drop-down or by navigating with the record selector.)

thanks a lot!

Forms :: Combo Box Works Only When Target Form Is Initialized

Jul 2, 2013

I have two forms. In form 1, there is a combo box that I have set on click to open form 2 in this manner:

Code:
Private Sub boxEditEntry_Click()
DoCmd.OpenForm "frmSRTEdit", , , "[ControlNumber]=" & Me.boxEditEntry
End Sub

The thing is, this has only worked when Form 2 is already open. I can't figure out why. If Form 2 is not open or has not been opened, the on click will still open Form 2, but not to the value in the combo box, or any value for that matter, it's blank. I really need it open if has not yet been opened or if it has been closed before. Also, I'm fairly new to access and I have no clue what I'm doing in vb.

Forms :: Nomination Form - Combobox Selection List Not Updating After Each Selection

Oct 27, 2014

I am designing a nomination form (web database so no vba macros can be used).

The form has 3 combo boxes: cboStaffName, cboLevel, cboNominee.

The form is bound to the tblSubmit table where the submissions are populated.

I used a select statement:SELECT Staff_List.Staff_Name FROM Staff_List; to populate the combo box for the Staff Name selection.

This is the select statement to populate the job level combobox:

SELECT Staff_List.Level, Staff_List.Staff_Name FROM Staff_List WHERE (((Staff_List.Staff_Name)=[forms]![frmtest]![cboStaffName]));

The select statement to populate the combobox for the nominee combobox:

SELECT Staff_List.Staff_Name FROM Staff_List WHERE (((Staff_List.Level)=[forms]![frmtest]![cboLevel]));

The problem is that the staff_name in the first combobox is still found in the nominee combobox which should not be because a staff cannot nominate self. There is a field in the Staff_List called YesNo that should be activated for each staff that is selected so that the select statement on the nominee combobox can be updated accordingly to remove items with the field "Active"

How to get the checkbox selected for each corresponding staff.

Sample of the database has been attached.

Forms :: Combo Box On Continuous Form Updating Current Record Only

Jul 29, 2013

Combo box on continuous form should have the control source listed as the field on the form that will be updated. The Row Source, however, is a query that includes 2 things: the field on the form that will be updated (this part will be nonvisible in your form) and the table/query of selections you want to show up in the combo box (visible). Then ensure the Bound column is set to 1 and the Column count is set to 2 with Column Widths as 0";1"

Forms :: Requerying Values In A Subform After Updating Combo Box In Main Form

Apr 21, 2015

Within my main form I have a combo box called "workgroup." Also in the main form is a subform called "sfrmSubmissionRecords," and within this subform is a combo box called "covermemo."

Each cover memo is assigned to a specific workgroup, so my intention is for each time a new workgroup is selected from the dropdown, the covermemo combo box in the subform becomes populated only with the covermemos associated with that workgroup. I'm almost finished except for the final step when I try to make the values regenerate...Access says that can't find the referenced form "sfrmSubmissionRecords"

This is the code that I'm using:

Private Sub cmbWorkgroup_AfterUpdate()
Forms![sfrmSubmissionRecords]![cmbCovermemo].Requery
End Sub

Forms :: Subform Is Not Refreshing / Updating New Information From A Combobox

Jul 17, 2013

I have a mainform in access with a subform (continous form mode). The subform's source is a query that has a criteria parameter that gets the values from a combobox in mainform.(list of projects) Combobox name= cmbProject

It works fine for some records (old records), so when I migrate new data into the table the comboxbox display the new data but when I select the record to be dispayed on the subform, the record or data is not in the subform, so the record is in blank.

Forms :: Successfully Updating A Combobox Not In List Event

Jun 14, 2015

I have a basic form linked with a subform inside of it. The main form has a list of customers in a combobox and the subform lists all the things they have ordered from us. This all works perfectly fine, I can add data to the list of things ordered and it's ok.

I decided instead of using a whole extra form to add customers I'd just have a not in list event and allow users to add customers through there, bit more intuitive and cut down on forms.

It works to certain extent except one small problem, if I add a customer I have to close and reopen the form to be able to add/remove data from them in the subform. If I leave the form open and try to enter in data in the subform immediately it just shows whatever customer I had last on the combobox and adds it to the last customer as well.

It works perfectly fine if I reopen it so I thought it was some kind of query or update snafu but all the VBA code examples I found don't seem to do anything. Not exactly sure where to go from here.

PHP Code:

Private Sub cboDept_NotInList(NewData As String, Response As Integer)
    Dim oRS As DAO.Recordset, i As Integer, sMsg As String
    Dim oRSClone As DAO.Recordset
    Response = acDataErrContinue
    If MsgBox("Add dept?", vbYesNo) = vbYes Then
        Set oRS = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("tblDepartments", dbOpenDynaset)

[Code] .....

Linking Combobox To Form And Updating

Jul 15, 2005

I have a combobox that displays information about a current record on a form (much like a subform would show all information related to a certain record). So for example, there is a user and the combobox would list all the users applications. Now, when the record is changed (via the navigation buttons) I want the combobox to requery, but I don't know where the query should go. I tried putting the requery under the primary key's afterupdate method, but no go.

Can anyone think of a solution? Do you understand my problem?

Thanks in advance.

Forms :: Populate Field When Select A Value From Combobox On The Form

Apr 24, 2013

In my quality control database QC techs will be entering in test results. Each quality control entry they put in will have a product and lot number it is related too.

My question is about making data entry easier for the QC techs. When two jobs are being run at once, the techs may have to alternate between which jobs they enter, meaning a different product and lot number. It would be frustrating for the QC techs to enter in a product code and lot number for every entry they make.

Can the lot number field be automatically populated when the tech selects a product? Basically, if the tech selects product A, can the last lot number value for product A automatically populate the field in the new entry?

Edit: Currently I have the "solution" of making two instances of the entry form with each lot number entered on the different one. This allows the QC Techs to use the CTRL+ ' to populate the last record, allowing them to quickly enter the product code, lot number, and date of the job they are working on.

What I want to do is select multiple records with the mouse, then click a command button opening a form in dialog mode with the selection list. The user then clicks to make his selections and clicks ok, which then updates the multi-select field for the selected records.

Forms :: ComboBox Value Updates Another Combo Box

May 4, 2015

I'm trying to update a combobox(called TypeCombo) list values after I select a value in another Combobox(called manCombo). The values for both Combobox comes from the table called EquipmentTable. Which has 3 fields Manufacturer, Type and Model.

Code:

Private Sub ManCombo_AfterUpdate()
Me.TypeCombo.Value = DLookup("[Type]", "EquipmentTable", "Manufacturer = " & Me.ManCombo.Value)
End Sub

I know that the value I select in ManCombo is being passed into the DLookup but TypeCombo.Value always equals Null. Is this because the Dlookup returns multiple values and if so should the code be something like

Code:

Private Sub ManCombo_AfterUpdate()
Me.TypeCombo.List = DLookup("[Type]", "EquipmentTable", "Manufacturer = " & Me.ManCombo.Value)
End Sub

here is my visual basic code that I am using to determine what the subsequent combo box will display.

Option Compare Database

" ORDER BY FamilyName"

My Control Source is PlanktonAnalysis.WaterbodyName

When I fill in the form with the data, The Waterbody name is visable for selection (example: I see "Lake Lillinonah" in the cascading combo box, But when I save the record in the PlanktonAnalysis Table I get a number in the WaterbodyName column vice the name of the waterbody

Forms :: Combo Box Not Updating Upon Moving To New Record

Jun 26, 2014

I have a tab control with a Counsellor Training tab on it inmy form frmCounsellors. The issue I am having is that when I select a training type from the drop down in the sub form on the tab control on the counsellor training tab and then go to a new record of the main form, not on the sub form, the training type I selected on the form stays the same. If I change it on the second record, it stays at whatever I changed it to, even if I return to the first record it stays at what I changed it to as well.

How do I get it to stay with the counsellor and have it zero out for a new counsellor and it to allow me to enter something different for the new counsellor then save it for that counsellor?I just realised, I am having the same issue with the location combo box but I am sure I could apply a fix to both boxes if I knew one.

Now on the sub form the control shows the whole table. i this case i have clicked the 3rd combo box, then it will show the whole column in its list. if i select any one of it the table will show the common values below. then i will click the second combobox which will populate the present data shown into the subform table after the first filter.

After that i wish to filter the fifth column where the fifth combobox will populate the data after the second filtering.

By all means the active data into the column will ony populate into the combobox.

Forms :: Prevent Combo Box From Updating Table

May 21, 2015

I have a combo box on my form which loads fields from a table and displays them using

Code:
SELECT DISTINCT table_team.team FROM table_team;

I then use

Code:
=[qry_showteamforedit]![team]

in the default value for the combobox to show the team which is saved in the current record.This is the qry_showteamforedit:

Code:
SELECT table_team.team
FROM table_team RIGHT JOIN table_staff_details ON table_team.ID = table_staff_details.team
WHERE table_team.ID = table_staff_details.team;

My problem is when I move through the records, if I change the selected value using the combo box it changes the actual value in the table from the one that was selected to the new one. If I was on record 1 and the teamid saved in there was 1 . It would display "team one" but if I changed that to "team two" it would change record one to say "team two" instead of "team one".I have been searching and found that this is because it is bound to the table so need to remove the text from Control Source, which when I do, breaks it, and it doesn't display the saved team.

what I would like it to do is display all the teams, but default to the one saved by using the id saved in the main table, but allow me to change this value. I would also like a second cascading combo box which will display a list of subteams dependent on what main team was selected and again, default to the values saved in the main table. I have managed to get cascading combo boxes working but combining them with my tables and queries is proving difficult. This is how my tables would be ( just showing the relevant fields)

Staff_table
ID Name teamID
1 Dave 1
2 Tom 1
3 Matt 2

team_table
ID team subteam
1 team1 subteam1
2 team1 subteam2
3 team1 subteam3
4 team2 subteam4

Is it is the subteams that will be unique I would like to save the subteam ID to the teamID field of the staff_table. that way i can retrieve the team and the subteam using the same ID.

Forms :: Combo Box Values Based On Selection On Another Combobox

Jun 6, 2014

I am having issues with my combo box populating values based on the selection from another combo box.

Database : contains 2 tables: Staff_List, Level_Type and a form called frm_Test
The first combobox cboLevel gets its value from the Level_Type table with the select statement SELECT [Level_Type].[ID], [Level_Type].[Level_Type] FROM level_Type;

The values to be displayed on the second combobox cbo_Name is expected to be dependent on the Level selection made from the first combobox i.e if Level 1 is selected in cboLevel then only Names of people in Level 1 will be displayed in second combobox.

The select statement I put there is SELECT Staff_List.ID, Staff_List.Staff_Name
FROM Staff_List
WHERE ((([Staff_List]![Level])=[Forms]![frm_test]![cboLevel]));
This is not displaying anything in the second combobox after I tried it in the Form view, just empty.

Forms :: Cascading Combobox To Filter Options That Can Be Entered Into Second Combo Box

Jul 31, 2014

I'm trying to use a cascading combo box to filter the options that can be entered into a second combo box.

In frmBabies, a Mode of Delivery is selected from 8 options. 4 of these are "normal" deliveries and 4 are caesarean sections.

A second combo box selects the Indication for Operative Delivery. The table tblIndOpDel contains options for normal as well as caesareans. I would like to filter the indications so that the user cannot enter an indication for normal delivery for a caesarean section.

Both tblIndOpDel and tblDelMode have a foreign key to tblDelModeCat, which categories deliveries as normal or caesarean.

I'm stuck on how to proceed from here. Sample database attached.
