Forms :: Combobox In A Form To List Values Of A Field In A Table - Rowsource
Apr 14, 2014
So I have a combobox in a form that lists the values of a field in a table. The rowsource is this:
Code:
SELECT [Estes Training Modules].[Training Module], [Estes Training Modules].[Period] FROM [Estes Training Modules] ORDER BY [Period];
The problem is that ALL values on that field show up, including repeated values. I only need each different value to show up once. How can I do that?
For example, what I get in the combobox is: Annual, 2-Year, Annual, Annual, 2-Year, 3-Year,...
What I need is: Annual, 2-Year, 3-Year,...

I have a data base with names, email IDs, phone numbers of 5 types(example quality, security, IT,finance etc) of person from ten different project teams. I created a basic form for the end user to enter values and created fields for each of the person's name, email ID etc based on the personal type( liek quality, IT, finance etc) on each team. The background table contains records of almost 200 people now.
All of these people will be trained for one task and some will be trained for multiple tasks. I know how to make the combo box allow multiple values/selections but, i cannot list out all 200 personal names in the combobox's rowsource/value list. Is it possible to combine all different name fields and list out all personal(of one team), so that the end user can just select multiple names for that team who have been trained and so on. i need to set the rowsource of the combobox to the values of all personal from one team so the team leader can just go select who has been trained and who has not.

I have a Product form that shows the details of each of the Products in my Product table. I also have a "Pick a product" combobox (who's rowsource is being fed by the same Products Query that feeds the form). This allows you to go straight to a particular product by selecting its name. So far, so simple.
I've since added a couple of combobox filters which use different columns ("Product Type" and "Collection") to allow the user to get down to a more manageable recordset to then work with.
Of course, because the "Pick a Product" combobox is being fed by the Products Query, the combobox can end up showing products that are not contained in a filtered recordset. This is... sub-optimal.
Is there a way of telling the "Pick a Product" combobox to use the products listed in the recordset as its rowsource rather than the product query? So that it only lists the products the user has filtered down to?

I am trying to design an unbound combobox whose rowsource can be dynamically set based on a union query in order to search 1000's of names returning each name that contains a user defined string. The search does not start until the user defined string reaches 3 characters in length.
There are more details in the attachment but basically the vba code I used all saves OK in the vba editor but I get a runtime error 13 type mismatch when the code attempts to utilise the query to populate the rowsource of the combobox.

I have a form with a combobox and a treeview. When I select an item in the combobox, the treeview is updated with info related to the combobox value. When I browse through the nodes in the treeview, I want to see which other values will give that very same node. I could use the concatenation function* I found at Allen Browne's site, which will return a number of values in a single string.
What I'm looking for, is basically some sort of tag cloud. If the user selects node X, the tag cloud needs to show which values in the combobox will all lead to node X. The combobox values that lead to node Y shouldn't be visible at all in the tag cloud, or maybe just shown in a different color. The user should be able to click on the value, which will trigger the combobox_click event.
how many values there will be in the table behind the combobox. That's what's making this problem difficult to solve. Putting the form in design view, adding a textbox and returning to form view is not an option. How do I create a dynamic tag cloud? Is it possible to transpose a table column on a form?

Hi,
I have a table of records, with one field of the records a combobox populated by a select query based onanother table.
My problem ism that it doesn't seem to recognise any of the values as on the list, though deleting one character and then replacing it results in the value being accepted with no problems.
This is a database I have inherited (Cheers predecessor!), the table is populated with a few thousand records and scrolling through this table results in an error message on this field for every record and is making displaying data on this form a nightmare! Anyone know of the cause or of a quick fix?
I don't know the history of this table unfortunately.
Cheers in advance
John

Dim Query As String
Dim st As String
Dim rs As Recordset
st = "SOV"
Set qDef = CurrentDb.QueryDefs("get_query_reason")

I have an Employee's Development Objective main form , which has a subform that contains a combobox that lists all 'Job Titles' and 'Job Objectives' within the company, say such as:
Code:
IT Manager, Create Spreadsheets
IT Manager, Manage Staff
SQL DBA, Create Databases
SQL DBA, Create Spreadsheets
Managing Director, Manage Finance
Managing Director, Manage Staff
How do I get the subform combo box to ONLY display the Job Titles and Job Objectives specific to the Employees known Job Title? The combobox Row Source is presently:
Code:
SELECT qryJobObjectiveDetails.jobObjID, qryJobObjectiveDetails.jobTitle, qryJobObjectiveDetails.objective
FROM qryJobObjectiveDetails
ORDER BY [jobTitle], [objective];
The main form has a jobID number specific to the Employees job title.

Situation: 3 tables. Manufacturers, Countries & Provinces/States. 1 Form for data entry in Manufacturers.
Countries table contains ID, Country and CountryCode fields. i.e. 47, Great Britain & GB
Provinces/States table contains ID, Province/State and CountryCode. as in 1, Alaska and US.
In the form the country is easily selected from a list refering directly to the Countries table.
Problem: How to make a list in the form from which the user can simply select the province for the country that has previously been selected. And not a list with all teh provinces and states from every country in the world. (This would be a really really long list...)

I've go a subform with 2 comboboxes. It's a datasheet view.
The combobox controls are called cmb1 and cmb2 for the sake of this...
cmb2 is dependent on cmb1. So when you select a certain value in cmb1, cmb2.rowsource should get updated to use a certain table.
But the kicker is that this should be on a per row basis. So if on row 1 of the subform datasheet you set
cmb1=Manager, cmb2.RowSource should get set to 'tblManagers'.
Then on the next row, cmb1 is set to Directors, cmb2.RowSource should get set to tblDirectors.
But the cmb2.rowsource on row 1 is still set to tblManagers.

I'm trying to create a combo box that takes its values from a field in a table, the thing is that this field has duplicates because:
* The table is a qualification look up table
* It has 3 fields: QualificationID (autonumber), Qualification(e.g. Bachelor), Programme (e.g. Science)
* E.g of duplicate values (this is not a problem as it is necessary) Bachelor of Science, Diploma of Science, Certificate of Science
What I'm trying to do is create 2 single-columned combo boxes that are a parameter for a query and it's working except the combo boxes show duplicated valuesIs there a way to get the query that is the row source for the combo box to eliminate duplicates?

Hi all,
I have a combo box which gets it's values from a table. It also has a where statement to filter the data given the value in another combo box. I.e.
SELECT DISTINCT Table1.some_field FROM Table1 WHERE Table1.some_other_field = Forms!frmSomeForm.Combo_box
The first time I change the value in Combo_box combo box it will filter the values in my other combo box. But when I change it successive times it doesn't refresh the query, so the same values stay. Any suggestions?

In my form's table (tblMain), I've got a lookup field (drop-down list) that lists the primary key field from a different table (tblDiff). tblDiff includes 3 more fields. In my form for tblMain, I want to include 3 more textboxes that get filled up with these 3 fields from tblDiff when the corresponding primary key is selected in the drop-down box.

I have a combo box which I define a SQL statement as its rowsource.
When I open the form, I have yet to define the SQL statement for the combo box.
My code is:
if me.cmbobox.listcount = 0 then
me.cmbobox.enabled = false
else
me.cmbobox.enabled = true
end if
But it shows the box as still enabled.
When I do debug.print me.cmbobox.listcount, it shows a value of 1. But that is impossible since I have yet to define a rowsource for it or its empty.
I also have column heading turned off too.

I created a form with subforms that are all linked to their own tables. Values that are entered in to the form (i.e. just numbers or names) all save into the tables as I would expect; HOWEVER, all of my value lists (0,1,2 or 1-5) do not. I can change the values in the forms and as long as I am toggling between them they appear in the form but they are not populating the tables.
Other details. They are defined as numbers in the property table, I did change them to a value list in the form properties and did assign values to the property list.
I looked through some other threads that seemed similar but the solutions didn't apply. Because the straight up data entry saves, I feel like it is something specific to me creating those value lists...

I'm trying to change a rowsource depending on the value in a form. I want to be able to change the value and update the form accordingly. I can change the query but when I try to add the "where" statement to it, I get nothing.This is what I'm using:
Private Sub RepID_AfterUpdate()
Dim strSQL As String
strSQL = "SELECT DISTINCT [Cust No] & ' ' & [Name] FROM [Address Book] WHERE [Address Book].[Cust No] = '" & [RepID] & "' "
Me.NamesList.RowSource = strSQL
NamesList.Requery
End Sub

I am designing a nomination form (web database so no vba macros can be used).
The form has 3 combo boxes: cboStaffName, cboLevel, cboNominee.
The form is bound to the tblSubmit table where the submissions are populated.
I used a select statement:SELECT Staff_List.Staff_Name FROM Staff_List; to populate the combo box for the Staff Name selection.
This is the select statement to populate the job level combobox:
SELECT Staff_List.Level, Staff_List.Staff_Name FROM Staff_List WHERE (((Staff_List.Staff_Name)=[forms]![frmtest]![cboStaffName]));
The select statement to populate the combobox for the nominee combobox:
SELECT Staff_List.Staff_Name FROM Staff_List WHERE (((Staff_List.Level)=[forms]![frmtest]![cboLevel]));
The problem is that the staff_name in the first combobox is still found in the nominee combobox which should not be because a staff cannot nominate self. There is a field in the Staff_List called YesNo that should be activated for each staff that is selected so that the select statement on the nominee combobox can be updated accordingly to remove items with the field "Active"
How to get the checkbox selected for each corresponding staff.
Sample of the database has been attached.

I have a list box with a query as its row source (screenshot attached).
The query gets data from my Contracts table with information on a Consultant ID, Contract ID, and a Contract Status indicator. This effectively represents each contract with a specified status.
What I'm trying to do is allow the user to select a specific contract from this list box, and for my main form to open and display the actual information on the contract they just selected.
A little background on my main form, the main form consists of a main page followed by several Pages, with a subform in each. Thus, my contract screen is designated as Forms![frmConsultantList]![sbfrmContracts].
So, what I'm trying to do right now is collect multiple fields from the selection the user makes (on the listbox with the query row source). To further clarify, each line has a Consultant ID and a Contract ID. How do I pull each from the user's current selection on the listbox and assign them to new variables? As of now, I am only able to select the first field in the list (Contract ID) and assign it to a variable.
How do I do this, or is there a better way?
I apologize if I'm unclear about my situation, so please feel free to ask any questions. And of course, thank you to all those who spend time reading this.

In my quality control database QC techs will be entering in test results. Each quality control entry they put in will have a product and lot number it is related too.
My question is about making data entry easier for the QC techs. When two jobs are being run at once, the techs may have to alternate between which jobs they enter, meaning a different product and lot number. It would be frustrating for the QC techs to enter in a product code and lot number for every entry they make.
Can the lot number field be automatically populated when the tech selects a product? Basically, if the tech selects product A, can the last lot number value for product A automatically populate the field in the new entry?
Edit: Currently I have the "solution" of making two instances of the entry form with each lot number entered on the different one. This allows the QC Techs to use the CTRL+ ' to populate the last record, allowing them to quickly enter the product code, lot number, and date of the job they are working on.

My database is centered on a main form where users select pieces of information from ComboBoxes (primarily) and submit.
The first part of the form, they must choose from a list of our clients, which is a table with with roughly 5000 rows.
Later on in the form, they must choose a contact person from that client. While Client's may have several contact names (which need to be stored in a table), only one name is necessary for the form portion.
How can I make this Contact Person ComboBox only load names attached to the specific Client selected above?
As it stands right now, the Client List has its own table (along with additional information), and Contact Name is a separate Table with a look up field of Client List.

I have a combobox with the following specs.
Row Source Type = Value List
RowSource = 1;test1;2;test2;3;test3;4;test4;5;test5;6;test6;7; test7;8;test8;9;test9;10;test10;11;test11;12;test1 2
ColumnCount = 2
ColumnWidths = "0cm;8cm"
Bound Column = 1
For some reason unknown to me, although the combobox does drop down when entered, the values are not visible until selected, then the selected item is visible in the combobox, but still isn't visible in the drop-down list.
EDIT:
I'm using Access 2010
