I have a form containing these fields

trantype,Damount, Camount,Description

And trantype look-up field containing transaction type debit or credit.

Here in this form i want when i select debit transaction type then control move to the Damount and on pressing Enter key Camount skip and control move on Description, and same like this when i choose transaction type Credit then Damount skip away and control move on Camount field and next to description, and access doesn't ask for enter value in Damount.

I am currently stuck on set focus property. I have a main from with nested subform. I am trying to move the focus from last field of the subform to another field on the main form.

Customers(mfrm)....>Addresses(sfrm)...>Orders(sfrm Add)......>OrdDetails(sfrmOrders)

Now I have a field name [Securedesign] in frmOrderdetails and I want the tab order to navigate to field [CustomerID] in frmAddresses which is a subform to frmCustomers.

Can't Move The Focus To The Control

Hi

I am trying to write simple code that undoes entering a new record and moves the focus to a mandatory field. I wrote the code below; however, I get this run time error message each time I run it.

DB can't move the focus to the control PlotNum.

My code:
Private Sub cmbHouseType_BeforeUpdate(Cancel As Integer)
Forms![frmHouse]![qryHouse2]![PlotNum].SetFocus

I do not want the cursor to move to the next control on a form when the user presses the enter key. It is a memo field and I want the cursor to move to the next line as it would in a word document.

Access Can't Move Focus To Control

I have a tab control on my form. In the change event of the tab control I am trying to tell it to move to the first field on each page of the tab control whenever the page no. changes:

This works when I am tabbing normally through the controls. But when I click back to the first tab, it says "Access can't move the focus to the control gynFemale" (gynFemale is the first control on the first tab.) It works for the other tabs. That is when I click on another tab, the focus goes to the first field on that tab. When I enter a value in the gynFemale field (it is a combobox, with options Yes or No), sometimes it appears to save the value, then I discover that it has been saved as record #0.

Any help with these problems is appreciated.

After I enter data into one field in a record I would like the form to save the record when I move to another field in the same record. It seems that the record is only saved when I exit it entirely. Is there a way to save a record when moving between fields in that record? Can this be done without using an Event Procedure for each field?

So I have a control called txtBranch. If the user does not put 1 of 4 options then a msgbox pops up and says that is an invalid option and then gives all the valid options. It then sets the value to blank. Then it moves to the next field. I do not want it to move to the next field. I want it to stay on txtBRanch till it has a correct value. I have tried DoCmd.GoToControl "txtBranch", Me.txtBranch.SetFocus on the OnExit, OnLostFocus, AfterUpdate events and it still continues to go to the next control how do I get it not to go to the next control?

I have written a code to look up by the unique reference number rather than use the wizard to avoid this error happening... The field is restricted to list only so you can't actually edit the number.For ease of use you cannot scroll by record and I need to filter by the ID. Is there an easy fix to this combobox?

Would creating a seperate query work? Is there another lookup code I could use where I don't need to have the combo box bound to the ID field since it's not being edited anyway? I had a go at one and although it would now let me select it wasn't updating the record, tried a few ways but it seems that it needs to be bound to the field.

Is there a way to create a text default value for a control box that is bound to a number field?

I have a combo box that is bound to an auto number ID but displays text. Bound column = 1, Number of column = 2, Column width = 0; 4cm

I want to use sample text in all my controls (and I know an alternative would be to use the control tip text). In a text box it is easy, I just set the default value to that value and then a before_update event considers the text box empty if the field value is the default value (e.g. Name text box has: Name... as default value). This doesn't work with my combo box since the bound column is a number. I could create a value in the table but then it would appear in the drop box and it is messy.

I want a List Box on a Form that takes its available drop-down values from tblDiscipline and puts the value selected into the Discipline Field of tblEquipment.

The problem is I set the Control Source of the List Box to tblDiscipline (so the List Box can use these values for the drop-down selections) and when I make a selection it tries to put it back into tblDiscipline instead of tblEquipment, because I can't find anywhere to set the table that the result should be Bound to.

How can I set up a control, such as a List Box, so that it gets its values from one table but returns them to another?

I have a continuous subform which queries a table of attachments. I'm using Access 2007 but not using the Attachment datatype; this DB will grow considerably and I don't want to waste precious space by filling it with bulky files. So instead, I have code which makes a copy of the attachment and adds the hyperlink (to the copy) to the table instead.

Now - I want to add a control to the subform to display an icon / image reflecting the file type of the attachment (Word doc, Excel s/s, PDF etc.)

But not sure how to go about it.

I was thinking I could use FileSystemObject.GetFileExtension at the point in the code where the attachment is added, and add a new field to my attachments table (i.e. translate "*.xls*" to "Excel", etc.) Then store / embed a handful of images for the core types I would expect and use an image control on the subform to display the image based on the value of that field.

But is that even possible / feasible?

Or, is there a handy API which can retrieve the icon associated with a file type based on what has been installed on the local machine (even if there is, there's still the problem of setting up the image control to display the appropriate icon specific to each record...)

Or, is there another control available which would be better suited to something like this than an Image control?

I have 4 drop down lists calling values from a query.
This part works as expected.

However, I would like the focus to automatically change to the next drop down field after ANY (valid) entry is made.

IE

Drop Down 1: "any value" ----> focus automatically set to Drop Down 2, etc

The code I have only relates to 1 of the drop down values, I want it to rerlate to any of the values.

My values are simple, just "yes" "no" "I don't know", etc.

OR

Move Text From One Field To Another Automatically

Hi, I have a form set up, among other fields in the form is a Weekly update
free form field. I have another field called Historical Weekly updates. What
I want to happen is that when a user clicks in the Weekly updae field, the
text that is in there should pop down to the Historical field and have the
date of the move post next to the text in the historical field. I have no idea if this is a click action, a macro, or if it's even possible.Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I have a form we use for data entry, and not all the fields willhave data in them. When we click the new record button the cursor stays in the field where it was for the last record. We would like the cursor to move to the first field on the form everytime a new record is started.

Hello. My question is how do I go about moving data from one field to another within a table? I want to move the data in ReportDateClo to ReportDatCom when both ReportDateClo and SupAct are true by record which are identified by the field LogNum. It is probably very simple but I am having a brain cramp.

ReportDateClo and ReportDatCom are "short date" date fields. SupAct is a Yes/No field. LogNum is an autonumber.

New Field Does Not Show In Control Source For Form Control

I have table that I had to add a new field to which we update with a form. I tried to add a control for the new field but the field does not show up in the list for the control source. I am trying to add a list box to the form with a blank and 5 options.

I have attached screen shots of the table design and the form. The table has the field in datasheet view and I have manually entered a few entries in it but it still will not show in the control source for the form control. The top section of the form is where we enter and select the data for the new records. The bottom section (circled in red) autofills the matching record, from separate tables, for updating with the new entries.

I have added form controls for modified fields in the past so I am confused about why this is happening.

In Oracle and SQL Server, we can combine a few rows to be columns-like, but in Access, is there any way to do that? and how?

I have an Equipment Form with a Supplier subform. The Supplier subform also has a subform, Equipment Pricing Records.

I have the ability to change the Supplier via a combo box, but Equipment Pricing Records become orphaned.

What I would like to do is when a Supplier is about to be changed, for the user to have the option to either a) delete the sub records, or b) the sub records to move across to the new Supplier.

I know I will need to use the after update event once the delete or move decision is made, but I can�t think how to identify the records and then either delete or move them to the new Supplier ID.

The EquipmentID will never change.

Fields are;

EQUIPMENT form;
EquipmentID

SUPPLIER form;
SupplierID
EquipmentIDFK

PRICING RECORD form;
PricingRecordID
SupplierIDFK
EquipmentIDFK

Forms :: Move Selected Between Two Listboxes?

Move Selected Items Between Listbox1 (listEmp) and listbox2 (listAllocated). the items moved from listEmp must be removed from listEmp when moved to list allocated and vice versa.

Overview:

listEmp is my first listbox and currently has the query in it's rowsource
SELECT e.* FROM qryEmp AS e;
it has 7 columns but only 6 are showing (Column 1 is hidden)
and it is currently bound to 1

listAllocated has only 4 columns (can be changed) i only need the first 4 columns from the first list.
currently it has no row source and the row source type is set to Value
it is also bound to 1

I did find some code that does not do what I need but is closer than anything that I have found so far. It seems like it is copying the Selected Items from Column 1 and pasting it in the second listbox. but it is pasting them all in a row and not in individual columns below is the code. I will post a screen shot in 2 posts time.
