Forms :: Creating A Form That Require User Input To Confirm / Cancel Changes
Jun 24, 2013
I am fairly new to Access and my "changed" position at work requires that I learn much more about the software. My first challenge is to learn how to make an existing form prompt a user to confirm or cancel changes. I don't know anything about coding but I searched online and found some coded that is supposed to make this happen. I went to "form properties'' and typed this (below) in BeforeUpdate:
'If the form data has changed a message is shown asking if
'the changes should be saved. If the answer is no then
'the changes are undone
I am building a form to create a user record and at the same time i have some yes/no options which are located in other tables but when i want add a user i cannot select any yes/no options they seem locked?
Please could somebody point me in the right direction of code.
I have a database which I would like to query using a form with a combobox or two, each of which containing a list of eg. Customer Names, or Reference Numbers, which will then produce a report which can be printed out.
I know basic ADO, like get the database, open it, find records, update and delete records, however I have been unsuccesfully searching for the code to open a report, which will respond to certain sql parameters that correspond with the values in the combobox. And then be able to print that report if possible.
I would be much appreciative if anyone would point me in the right direction, Thanks!!
I am working on a database that uses a form requiring personnel to log in. This information comes from a user table and is something that I have added on numerous occasions to various databases. The question I have is in relations to a "lockout." How do I set it up so that someone gets locked out after so many attempts loging in on this form?
I'm trying to create a validation rule that requires an input of 5 numeric characters OR if the entry begins with a letter it can be any length. For example if the record begins with a number the length must be 5. If it starts with a letter any length is acceptable.
I always have a problem with input forms in Access in that I usually end up with an empty excess record which is being created because I do not know how to program this correctly.
I have a Purchase Order Receipt form (frmPurchase). When I receive a certain quantity of an article associated with a lot number (or a serial number) I have another input form opening up (frmLotorSerial), passing to it through Openargs, the article and the quantity received.
Say we receive 10 units of which we want to register the serial number, I want the user to be able to enter a maximum of 10 units (could be 10 records if each record = 1 serial number, but it could be less than 10 if we have several units per lot number), and not one more, into this frmLotorSerial.
The record looks like this: -key -artno (article) -recqty (quantity received) -date -warehouse -lot number
I used the lost_focus event on lot number to check whether the total received quantity in this form matches the total passed to it from the Purchase form, and if it does to stop the input. Since I could not close the window in the code of this event (error 2585) I moved the close command to the current event of the form.
Doing this closes the form all right, but it always creates one record extra, which of course does not carry any information, apart from the date which has a default value of now.
How should I program/what events should I use to: -test that the user should not go any further (total received in frmLotorSerial = total received in frmPurchase) -close the window and, above all, not create this extra record.
I am currently creating a form to input new return parts into a database. I am trying to automatically generate a tracking number (##-AA-####-####). I have gotten myself to generate the ##-AA-#### in a list box and almost was able to generate the sequence number, 0001, 0002, etc. using the dmax function. I would like to generate the sequence number one higher than the highest, depending on part type and last 4 digits of part number. Our parts have unique last 4 different p/n but more than one can fall under the same type.
I am building a form in access and I am trying to find a way where user input isn't possible in the associated textbox when "No" from on option box is selected.
I am trying to edit the following code to be able to require the user to enter a Loan number and keep prompting the user to enter a value as long as the field is blank. Once the field is filled in, then the code should go on to check if the sql condition is met and make the necessary change if met, then finally, I have a save command code that will require the user to save the record. Right now I am getting errors when I added the code to require the user to enter a field. I am new to loop and if statements in vba so I am not exactly sure how to structure it.
Code: Private Sub Save_Record_Click() Dim SQL As String Do If IsNull(Me![Loan Number]) Then MsgBox "Please Enter Loan Number. This is a required field."
I have a small procedure I'd like to include in my database. I want to confirm with the user with some sort of modal popup message (I think that's the right term) when they abort data entry on a form (anywhere on that form which consists of several pages, and a linked subform on one page). I think I can use the "on undo" event, but I don't know what code to include to make this happen...
Tried searching for this to no avail, but I would think this is a common procedure to prevent users from accidental data entry abortion.
I have a form and a subform in it. I added New cancel button in the form so that the the user can cancel the record creation and no record will be inserted in the parent table.
But when details are entered in the subform (a datasheet) row records will be created in the subform table. what is the correct method or how to cancel these records if the user choose to click cancel button on the parent form.
I have a form, and on the form there is a Provider Rate which is a combo box, if the user select a zero rate, then it has the description please enter manual rate in box below. There is another box which the user can enter a manual rate.
how I can limit entry into these boxes, as currently a user can select a rate in the provider rate box and still enter something into the manual rate box. I want it so that if a rate other than zero has been selected in the provider rate box, then they can't enter anything into the manual rate cell.
I have two check box controls on a form, and I would like to set some sort of validation rule to make sure that one of the boxes is checked before the form is closed. I also have many other forms with text, radio, etc. controls that I would also like to set the same rule for.
I have a form bound to a table, with a subform in there, and I have a textbox with a source one of the table's fields. I would like the value of this textbox to be calculated based on the values of some boxes in the subform, but I also wont to be able to edit the value on the textbox myself.
Is it possible to have a textbox that get its value both from calucaltions and user input?
I need saving 2 input fields into a table. Here is the situation
tableA studentID Name
tableB studentID Name Course Fee
I have a form with a drop down list, to select studentID from tableA. I selected a dropdown from studentID to display Name, and that I tied to txtName
I then type in txtCourse and txtFee whatever value I want, example:
txtCourse = English txtFee = 50.00
Now, I'm able to transfer studentID and Name from tableA and save to tableB, and delete the record I just selected in tableA.
The issue is, I can't save the txtCourse, txtFee as I don't know how.
Here is what I have
Private Sub Insert_Click() Dim strSQL As String strSQL = "INSERT INTO tableB SELECT studentID, Name FROM tableA WHERE studentID = '" & txtstudentID & "'" CurrentDb.Execute strSQL
strSQL = "DELETE FROM tableA WHERE studentID = '" & txtstudentID & "'" CurrentDb.Execute strSQL End Sub
I'm stuck on how to save txtCourse and txtFee into tableB where I have Course and Fee fields.
My table have orderid along with other columns, i want to create a form where i am having a textbox for order id input by user. Firstly when user sees the form its only with the textbox and table fields, when i put the order id in the textbox the listing should be made.
I am trying to make user input forms for each of the tables in my current database. I have made the forms, but I am required to have the forms come up blank first (so they can create a new record), but allow the user to edit existing records too. How do I do this?
I'm trying to use DCOUNT to check to see if a date exists and if it does then i can cancel the input. The code im using is as follows however its returning datatype mismatch.
Code: If DCount("[pick_date]", "tblPicker_Stats", "[pick_date] = '" & txtPickDate & "'") > 0 Then MsgBox "Statistics for this date already exist", vbOKOnly, "Error" End End If
I want to put a textbox on a form that will take user input (a zip code) and put it into a table. I'm not sure how to do this. Is it even possible, and if so, any suggestions?
I am trying to filter data in a table using vba where I have a split form setup. My goal is to filter data where the user can input a character such as "a" for the "FirstName" field and have results from the table filtered with persons first name that starts with "a". Here is my code so far one of the text boxes.
Private Sub txtFirstName_DblClick(Cancel As Integer)
If Me.Filter = "" Then 'Compares the values that begin with the input values in txtFirstName 'text box from the table field name FirstName Me.Filter = FirstName & " LIKE '" & txtFirstName & "*'"
[Code] .....
I get a error in the else statement and please note that I am linking this form to an sql server so I can not delete or modify existing data in the table.
- I have a parent form bound to a parent table with a subform bound to a subtable.
- The parent does not allow data entry and has its sole field filled by a listbox.
- The subForm is a data entry form which contains two buttons in addition to it's fields: btnCancel and btnOK
-btnOK checks to ensure that all required fields are filled out and then saves and closes the parent form. - ALL OK
- btnCancel closes undoes any changes andcloses the form - ALL OK
The issue I have is with the user utilizing the Parent form x button to close the form. For uniformity I would like to not remove this button but would like it to prompt the user whether to discard the changes if the form is dirty.
I attempted the following on both the parent and sub forms to no avail. I can't even get the event to trigger:
Code: Private Sub Form_BeforeUpdate(Cancel As Integer) Dim rspSaveorDiscard As VbMsgBoxResult rspSaveorDiscard = vbYes
If Me.Dirty Then intSaveorDiscard = MsgBox("Are you sure you want to close without saving?", vbYesNo, "Discard Changes")
[Code] .....
I was under the impression that when closing a form using the x button the before_update event was triggered first, then the close event, then the unload event. How should I handle this?
I have a form where a user will enter a 11 digit number (12345043456). Using ASP (VB) this string of numbers queries an access database and returns the entry for that specific number to the user.
Unfortunately, the numbers in the access table are an 11 digit number with hyphens seperating the string like this 12345-04-3456 (the ndc # of a pharmaceutical).
So What i need is some code that monitors and modifies the form input so that the hyphens are added in to the string when the user is inputting the data.
If i cannot do this, then is there some VB that I can add which modifies the field in the text file when it is imported into access on a daily basis.
I want to put a textbox on a form that will take user input (a zip code) and put it into a table. I'm not sure how to do this. Is it even possible, and if so, any suggestions?
I have a form in Access2000 with 5 text fields which get transferred to the table for each new record. Is there a way i can "LOCK" one field so that once the user has input that data it never changes until closed. I can already lock the field but once i create a new record the field then goes blank.
