Forms :: Creating Duplicate Record With Specific Fields Blank
Jul 21, 2014
I'm working on a form with almost a hundred various fields (it's what my employer needs). He wants to be able to create new records with much of the same information as the old ones by clicking on a button that will copy the information to a new record, then clear certain specific fields (or some process that will safely create the same result). I don't need specifics on how to write the same line of code for each and every field I wish to clear.
Say I have a form with 5 fields: part_number, part_owner, procedure, file_name, and date.
How could I copy the record to keep the fields part_owner and procedure the same, but clear part_number, file_name, and date?
All of the fields are from the same table (no, it's not normalized...).

I need to create a bunch of new records that will contain some existing data and some blank fields.... what I want it to look like:
ACCOUNT | NUMBER | PERIOD | AMOUNT
4G334223 123-224-2212 1/1/2006
4G334223 123-233-2334 1/1/2006
What I want is the query to pull the account and number from the db, then add the date in automatically (not the current date, just a specified criteria to signify jan 06, feb 06,etc) and leave the amount field blank (which I will then add in the corresponding values manually).

I have a continuous subform recording the information of various wireless products for an employee embedded in an employee main form. Please see screen shot enclosed.
There is a check box "BYOD/Personal" on the subform. I want to hide a number fields when this check box on independent record is checked. However, if I use the following codes, the changes apply to all records under that employee.
Private Sub BYOD/Personal_AfterUpdate()
If BYOD/Personal.Value = True then
Me.Provider.Enabled = False
Me.XXX.Enabled = False....etc.
Else
Me.Provider.Enabled = True
Me.XXX.Enabled = True....etc.
End If
End Sub
How can I just disable those fields on the subform of a specific record when the BYOD/Personal field for that record is checked?

I am trying to do has to be done in a table and without the use of forms (becasue its what works for us) in Access 2007. I have a table where my staff records a number of different data fields for accounts. I currently have a 3 table relationship established. One of these table is our "Notes" table. My staff enters continuous notes for different accounts as new information come in.
What I have done is set my "date" field's default value to "now()" which accomplishes the time-stamp I need, but at the same time as soon as they type anything in another field in that row Access creates another row which is unwanted. follow up how can I go about also having a field that auto fills w/ the user's name/ID?

I need to be able to produce an error on a form where the user attempts to create a new user that already exists. The error needs to be produced when the save button is clicked.
See below for the existing code on my save button which exists in form, 'frmAddEditUser':
Private Sub cmdSave_Click()
If IsNull(cboManagerID) = True Then
MsgBox "Please select a manager", vbExclamation, "Details Missing!"
Me.cboManagerID.Requery
[Code] ....
Currently, if I attempt to create a user with the same Payroll ID as an existing user, my 'User details saved' message box is displayed and to the user it looks like a new record has saved successfully which isn't the case.
I need a message box to appear displaying something like "Payroll ID n already exists" where n is the 'PayrollID' of the duplicate record. (Is it possible to combine a value from a certain control and ones own custom text?)
Note: PayrollID is a combination of letters and numbers, i.e. two letters, followed by 5 numbers, e.g. JD12345.
For reference, the table/field and and control are called, '[tblUser].[PayrollID]' and 'txtPayrollID' (on 'frmAddEditUser') respectively; it is from this field and control that I want the error to be produced if the user is entering the same values which are existing in 'tblUser'.

I have started a new project where I have tables of people, organization, and roles, as well as one that is supposed to contain the relationships among them. In all four tables there is an AutoNumber ID field as the primary key. The fourth table, the relationship table, has as foreign keys, the primary keys from the first three.
I have created a form with a combo box for each of the three main tables. The intent is for the user to select a person, an organization, and a role, and then click on a button control that will create the relationship in the relationship table. What I am trying to do in the code is, using an AfterUpdate event procedure for each of the combo boxes, open the appropriate table as a recordset, find the selected record, and set a form-local variable to the value of the ID field for that record. So far, I can't get past the first combo box. Here is the code I have written, including both the form variable declarations and the AfterUpdate code:
Option Compare Database
Dim personID As Integer
Dim orgID As Integer
Dim roleID As Integer
Dim rsPerson As Recordset
Dim rsOrg As Recordset
Dim rsRole As Recordset
Dim rsRel As Recordset
[code]...
The error message I get is Compile error: Object required, with the personID reference in the last statement highlighted. (qryPerson is a query based on tblPeople that combines first and last names into LNFN.)

I have a form that lists records in a table. I would like to have a hyperlink beside each record that will open the data entry form and navigate to that specific record. Right now, the use can only open the form for all records and has to use the record navigation buttons to find the desired record.

I have a simple dbase that lists individual staff members' qualifications, skills and hobbies.
One person may have 20 qualifications and another may have 1 or none.
I have a separate field for each qualification.
Is it possible to write a query that only returns fields that are not null in each record so that the subsequent report is not full of blanks? I know I can use Can grow - Can shrink on the report but I'd rather eliminate blanks via a query if I can.

I have a document database that often deals with multiple copies of a document. Each copy must have a record of its own. With the add new record form I would like the user to be able to add the extra copies automatically by duplicating the first entry "n" times but also incrementing the copy number field by one for each copy. Got the duplicate copy done OK but am stuck on how to increment the copy number. This database forms part of my yearly assessment and is due in a couple of weeks so would welcome some help.
many thanks

I have an "Returns" master form that contains two subforms. The subforms contain items that we are returning back into our inventory. The underlying queries in each subform show only those records where the "Return Date" is null. The query(s) works fine, except that if there are 3 items that need to be returned there are 3 records that show in the master Returns form. I tried the Totals option in the query but the I need that Return Date on the subform. I only want one Returns master form to show the 3 records (not 3 records of the same master form).

I am setting up a form with a few tables in it.
I want each table to relate to the form.
When the Next button at the bottom of the page is clicked I want all the values of each table recorded even if there were no values put in the boxes.
For example if there is no value added to the field boxes in say half the tables I want the default value to be recorded as blank or zero so that each table has the same Autonumber associated with the other tables in the form.
What is the best way to do this?

Using Access 2010
I'm an expert user in Excel and am trying to learn more about Access, so I relate many of the functions to what they are called in Excel. And what I'm trying to do right now is count the number of fields in a specific record where the value is a specific result (CountIf).
For example, I need to return the number of fields in a specific record where the value is "Meets Requirements". The specific record will be determined by the Name, Contact, and Email fields (which together comprise the Primary Key).
Is there a way to count the values in multiple fields that equal "Meets Requirements"?

I have a [Order Central table] that compiles products from four different categories that employees can order from.
Employees using the database will select from four categories on buttons which opens up the order form EX: [Category 1 form].
They enter their order info on [Category 1 form] into a subform sourced from [Category 1 Table] called [Category 1 subform].
Is there a way that they could select the "Category 1" button, which would run a macro opening [Category 1 form] with the [Category 1 subform] having a where condition of 1=0 (or just so that the subform appears blank)?

In the code below I am creating a record with the INSET INTO statement and then Updating with additional info in various fields. it is not working the way I thought it would, so I am trying to create the record in it's entirety.
Code:
SQL_Grade_GUSD_ID = "INSERT INTO Grades (GUSD_Student_ID) VALUES (" & Me.GUSD_Student_ID & ")"
SQLM1_1_ELA = "UPDATE Grades SET Grades.Subject = ""BM1(ELA)"""
SQLM1_2_ELA = "UPDATE Grades SET Grades.Type = ""Exam"""
SQLM1_3_ELA = "UPDATE Grades SET Grades.Score = ""0"""
SQLM1_4_ELA = "UPDATE Grades SET Grades.Nam = ""GUSD BM-1"""
DoCmd.RunSQL SQL
[Code] ...
I am running to syntax problems when I try to USE the INSERT INTO to create the record with all the info in one statement.
Code:
SQLM1_1_ELA = "INSERT INTO Grades ( GUSD_Student_ID, Subject, Type, Score, Nam ) " & _
"SELECT (" & Me.GUSD_Student_ID & ")"" AS GUSD_Student_ID, ""BM2(ELA)"" AS Subject, " & _
"""Exam"" AS Type, ""0"" AS Score, ""GUSD BM-1"" AS Nam " & _
"FROM Grades"
I am Getting this error:
Syntax error (missing operator) in query expression '(12345)" AS GUSD_STUDENT_ID,
"BM2(ELA)" As Subject, "Exam" AS Type, "0" As Score, "GUSD BM-1" AS Nam From Grades'

;) Hey everybody,
I am working on a database used in recording device characteristics/test information. The main table of information has dozens of columns for test/part detailed information. When inputing the data for each specific test, many of the info. details are repeated when testing say 20 devices of the same part all at once. Rather than retype every piece of detailed information in every field, everytime, is there an easier way? Does anyone know of a way to make specific fields copy/paste the previous record's information in the fields automatically when a new record is created? Please, if anyone could help or has ANY ideas, let me know...
Thanks

I have 7 combos, which for the most part set the value in another field - however, there are two values in the combo that do not have a value attached - one is AH, the other is SK. I have two textboxes (one for AH, one for SK) that I wish to have a count (preferably running) of how many times each of these values appears in the seven combo boxes.
