Automatically Populate A Date Field Based On Value Entered In Another Field
Nov 10, 2005I need to create a New Form control for this situation:
If I enter a date into a field and the choice for another field is equal to a certain value. How can I get the date I entered to be automatically populated into another date field.
For example:
If I enter 11/10/2005 in a date field and I choose either "BN", "BA", or "BT" in a text field, I need that date of 11/10/2005 to be automatically populated in another date field on the same form.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think that you can help me with my problem, similar to the one presented here.
I have a form that, when I select an account number, I want the Group to automatically populate on the form.
Below is the code I input on the 'OnChange' event of the 'Group' field on my form:
strFilter = "OracleAccountNumber = '" & Me!OracleAccountNumber & "'"
Me!Group = DLookup("Group", "Accounts", strFilter)
OracleAccountNumber is the name of the field on my form, and it is the name of the combo box in the table that I want to lookup.
Accounts is the table where I want to lookup the OracleAccountNumber
Group is the field from the Accounts table that I want to automatically populate.
What do I have wrong?

Apr 15, 2013I have a form with numerous fields on it, with the one I'm concerned about being a date field.
I want a different form to open automatically if the above date field is in the past (this will act as a warning to the user).
I've created the warning form as a pop-up view but just want to know the best way to have it open automatically.
Can this be done via a macro in the OnOpen Property (or maybe OnLoad) or will this have to written in vba.

May 13, 2014I am building an Access database for a client. It is an employee staffing database. With that being said they would like the ability to automatically populate the "T2PPCD" date field based on what is entered into the "Report Date" field. (Same table)
The date is the Monday after 180 days from the report date.
I already know how to get it to auto fill 180 days from the "Report Date" but I'm not sure how to tell it to give me the Monday after 180 days.

Jun 12, 2014I am trying to open a form from my main form and populate fields from one to the other (then press a button).if the form is opened in dialog mode then the code won't run to populate the form (until it is closed or not visible).
The main form is showing an address, but the user can click a button to amend this. Once clicked, the Property Form is opened - I don't want the user to need to fill in all the address details again. I want this pulled through from the main form so the user can make an amendment, then save the new address.

I am attempting to track the duration of days since an initial date.
A individual has 3 business days to have their bloodwork/labs drawn after given instructions to do so. 'StartDate'= the initial date. 'LabsDate'= current date(would like it to automatically update to the current date everytime the database is open). BD ElapsedLabs= # of days that has elapsed between the initial day and todays date.
I am able to calculate the #days elapsed no problem, but I am having a problem with 'LabsDate' automatically updating to todays date. I am able to automatically place the current date in the first/ fresh entry, but it fails to update the next day.
I have tried placing the code Me.LabsDate= date() in the Before Update Form Property Sheet. Cannot get it to work.

Dec 15, 2014I'm currently building my first database for a research project. When we enroll a participant, we need to have an enrollment date/time as well as an activation date/time (and they are not allowed to be the same because, rules). I was able to figure out how to auto-populate the current date/time when we've marked a person as enrolled. What I'm wondering is if it is also possible to auto-populate another field with the date/time, ten minutes in the future?

Aug 14, 2015I have created a basic Volunteer Events and Hours Volunteered tracking database.
I created a form Volunteer Hours to allow an end user to use that form to record the volunteer and hours volunteered on a specific Event. There are two tables needed in the form Volunteer Hours to be used for the end users to record the Event, Volunteer, Date and Hours. The form has drill down fields from two tables:
Table A - Volunteer Events (event name, date, descr, owner, co-owner, loc, status)
Table B - Volunteers (name, co, div, emp#,title)
I want to be able to select the Volunteer Event and have the event date automatically populate in the Volunteer Hours form date field when the Event is selected to eliminate the end user from having to enter the date in.
Also; I would like to be able to add more than one volunteer at a time to an event on the form, this would also decrease the data entry time.
Are one or both of these things possible?
Populate New Record's Foreign Key Field Automatically
Aug 2, 2005I have a form where all records are listed on one page with a vertical scrollbar (all simple textboxes):

... underneath these on the form is a blank record for NEW additions, which obviously has nothing in any of its textboxes, waiting for user to input some data, as normal.
The Foreign Key, due to the nature of my DB, will always be the SAME value for each record in the DB (don't ask, it's part of an export/import-to-main-db app). So I know that the NEW record, if created, will have the same value as the rest of the records.
How do I get it so that when a new record is created, the Foriegn Key textbox is automatically filled in with the value from the row above? (Due to referential integ reasons the Foreign Key field MUST be filled in accuratly or else an error ocurrs.)
Looking at the various events, I realise that it is the BeforeInsert event that will sort this out, but I'm at a loss regarding how to get the NEW record's Foreign Key textbox to match the Foreign Key value above it.
Any advice?

Mar 11, 2015I'm creating a form that when the user selects the following categories in the same combo box (Date Received, Date Reviewed, Date kitted, In Work, Complete) it auto populates dates in the respective fields. As I mentioned, it's only one combo box. The dates will be spread out, so the user will change the combo box selection based on when these events occur. I already have a field for each category both on the table and form. Also, I do have multiple tables for other parts of data, but these categories all fall into the same table.

These tables all contain the names of employees, training courses, and department in one field and their respective ID codes in the other.
The 4th table is the actual log where the manager logs in who took the training courses. When the manager goes to select the employee name, course name, and department name is there a way not using VBA for the respective ID number to appear in the 4th table (they use the same field names and are related)
Populate A Field For Several New Records With Date Entered In Textbox On A Form?
Jun 23, 2015I have a form with a text box where the user enters a date and then clicks a button titled "Add." I've added an on-click event to the Add button that runs an append query that adds several records to a table [tblTracking]. I have a field in tblTracking called EndDate. I want the date that's entered into the text box by the user to be populated into all the new records added to the tblTracking when the append query is run. Currently, all fields in tblTracking are populated when the append query is run, except the EndDate field.
Is this possible? If so, how?
I've experimented with adding a separate on-click event that adds a record to a separate table containing only the date entered in the textbox and an auto-populated ID field. I thought there might be a way to utilize the ID field to pull the associated EndDate into the Tracking table, but I can't figure that out, either, since I don't know how to tell it to look at the date field in the last record of the table. That sounds unsafe anyway.

The subform has a button to another form for contact details called Contact_Details. The Contact_Details form opens with the details of the person who I have selected on frm002_PAF_Monitoring. There are some fields on frm002_PAF_Monitoring that I would like to be populated on Contact_Details when opened, like FirstName and LastName. I'd like to have a field in a form that's populated automatically based on what's inputted in a different field.For example, I've got one table with names and descriptions on widgets (name in column A, description in column B).
Widget 1 This widget is blue
Widget 2 This widget is green
Widget 3 This widget is yellow
When I'm in my form, I want when I select Widget 1 to have the corresponding text (This widget is blue) appear in a field below.

Jan 4, 2014I have an entry form for a table named [Group Members]. The form has several fields deriving data from 2 other tables [Mail List] and [Groups] I wish to automatically display a Group ID when the relevant Group Name is selected from a drop down list.The Row Source Code is as follows;
SELECT [GROUPS].[GROUPS ID}, [GROUPS].[GROUP NAME FROM GROUPS].
The Bound Column is 1.This code fails to display the [GROUPS ID] when a Group Name is entered. Which other controls do I need to modify to achieve this simple matter? I have similar code installed to achieve auto display of Member ID when Member Name is entered. That code is equally ineffective.

Jul 9, 2013I have created two tables one for long term goals (tableA) and one for short term goals (tableB).Each table has its own PK but in tableB I store the PK of tableA for linking the two tables. The relationship is for each long term goal you can have many short term goals to achieve the long term. I have created a form that has the long term on a main form and the short term in a subform. and the linking of the ID's works correctly.
My problem is that on the main form I have another ID field (not a PK) that when I click a button to add additional long term goals I want the ID field copied and populated when the new data entry form is opened.The button is created with the wizard to add a new record.How can I copy the ID from the open form to the same field on the form when the new record button is clicked?

Forms :: Populate Field When Select A Value From Combobox On The Form
Apr 24, 2013In my quality control database QC techs will be entering in test results. Each quality control entry they put in will have a product and lot number it is related too.
My question is about making data entry easier for the QC techs. When two jobs are being run at once, the techs may have to alternate between which jobs they enter, meaning a different product and lot number. It would be frustrating for the QC techs to enter in a product code and lot number for every entry they make.
Can the lot number field be automatically populated when the tech selects a product? Basically, if the tech selects product A, can the last lot number value for product A automatically populate the field in the new entry?
Edit: Currently I have the "solution" of making two instances of the entry form with each lot number entered on the different one. This allows the QC Techs to use the CTRL+ ' to populate the last record, allowing them to quickly enter the product code, lot number, and date of the job they are working on.
Forms :: 2 Tables - Auto Populate Field In A Form
Oct 7, 2014I have 2 Tables with following fields
Table [APM]: apm_id, apm_owner, apm_values
Table [DATA]: apm_id, serv_name, serv_place, serv_choice, serv_role
Both tables are joined with 1 to 1 relations based on apm_id as both of the fields are same. The table [APM] is pre filled with data. The idea is to list data from [APM] and collect data from user to be saved in [DATA] based on the info from [APM].
I created a form which list all the fields from both tables. The fields from table [APM] are only for displaying data and created a combo box based on [APM].apm_id to display the fields by chosing an APM ID from the drop down box.
A user adds a record and moves on to second record, completes the second record. Now if the user wants to list the first record by chosing the APM ID from the drop down box it only populates the fields from table [APM] but not the fields from table [DATA] which the user just added. Infect the fields related to table [APM] changes, but the fields from table [DATA] stays the same.
How ever if I click on the small arrows on the bottom which lets you cycle through records than it populates all the fields from both tables correctly.
How can I fix the issue so that all the fields would populate based on APM ID selected from drop down box.

Jul 18, 2013I have a Customers table and an Orders table. My Customers table is a bit different than the norm because I couldn't figure out any other way to do this.
My client's customers are either businesses (companies) with a contact person, or individual customers. So, in the Customers table, I have the following fields (there are others but do not apply to my problem):
Customer ID
Company
Contact
Customer
So, if it is a company the data entry person would enter the company name and the full name (EX: Doe, John) in the contact field, but if it is an individual customer, then they would leave Company and Contact blank and enter just the Customer name (Ex: Doe, Jane).
So, in the Orders table, I have combo boxes for look ups for the fields Company and Customer.
That works okay, but I would really like for the Customer ID to post into a text box once the Company or Customer has been selected. In other words, the input person would enter the name, then it would show that Customer's ID #.
