Forms :: Dates Won't Sort In A Form

Sep 23, 2013

I have a "Date Select" form that is linked directly to a table that only has one column in it, "Dates". The column in the table is a Date/Time column and is sorted in date order, Lowest to Highest, and when any new dates are added to the table (through another form) they re-sort into date order.

The "Date Select" form allows the user to highlight a date and open a record containing information logged against that date, however the dates on the "Date Select" form will not sort into the logical date order that the table that feeds it is in!

I've set the "Date Select" form Property "Order By" to [Datse_List DESC], (Dates_List being the name of the List Box on the form that displays the list of dates from the table), and set the "Order By On Load" to "Yes", but still the dates in the list box remain out of order.

Dates are entered into the table "Dates" column retrospectively / randomly.

how to make the dates in the list box conform to Lowest to Highest?

Sort A Lookup Field That Has Dates In It

Sep 14, 2004

I have a lookup field for my table that pulls its data from Pay period table

When I click the drop down in my table, the dates aren't in any order. I think this is because lookup fields are considered text fields.

Is there a way to sort my drop down box on the table?

Sort By Date With Blank Dates At Bottom?

Sep 7, 2006

Hi

I have created a query which sorts store information by potential opening dates...however, some of the stores are so new there are no potential opening dates as yet.

I would like the stores with blank opening dates to appear at the bottom but when sorting by ascending (which is what I need) these blank dates appear at the top... is there any way around this?
thanks

Forms :: Applying Sort And Filter In Form Results In Design Changes To Form

Dec 27, 2014

When I'm applying a sort and filter in a form, Access is updating the Filter and Order By properties of the form, so that it is possible to re-use in conjunction with Filter on Load and Order By on Load properties. However, a consequence of this is that when the form is closed, it prompts the user whether they want to save the design of the form. I want to circumvent this as I don't want to re-use the sort and filter and I don't want to be prompted to save the design of the form.

Although I can circumvent this by closing the form using a method that doesn't prompt for saving, the additional complication here is that the form in question is in the Navigation subform of a Navigation Control. Hence when I click on a another Navigation button, it (not me) closes my current form and hence prompts me whether I want to save the design of the form (if I have been sorting and/or filtering). I can't see how to circumvent this and the prompting is resulting in unacceptable usability.

Forms :: Use Buttons On A Form To Change Sort Order On A Continuous Form

Jul 23, 2013

I want to use buttons on a form to change the sort order on a continuous form. In the buttons click event I am using a public function (named Sort_1) to change the sort order. The first element of the event call is the name of a generic query (named Sort_1_Query1) and the query field to sort (LAST_NAME OR FRIST_NAME, depending on the button.)This is the Click Statement.

=Sort_1("Sort_1_Query1","LAST_NAME")

This is the Public Function
Public Function Sort_1(SortName As String, FieldName1 As String)
DoCmd.ApplyFilter SortName, FieldName1 & "between 'A' and 'Z'"
End Function

I think the problem is in the use of quotation marks or trying to pass the query field name to the Do Command or the use of an ampersand.

Forms :: Sort Continuous Form By Two Fields?

Jul 6, 2013

I have a form I would like to sort by:

first - by App_Flag (a yes/no field) - have all the clients with "yes" on top

second - by App_Date - from the earliest to the latest

The query sorts it fine but the form does not - even if I requery the form (added a requery button).

Can a macro or coding make it sort it the way I need it?

Forms :: How To Sort Query Results With A Form

Aug 14, 2013

Essentially I have a table for rooms around my school and what the rooms contain. Most of the details for the rooms are Boolean (e.g. If the room has a projector, Yes/No).

So what I am trying to do is have a form where i can select a checkbox(s) and if i tick one, a query that holds all the room details will only show rooms with projectors in them, which i can then display those results in another form.

My question is how do I get the check boxes in the form to narrow down the room results to only show the ones with the criteria i have selected in the form?

Forms :: Form That Shows 100 Records At A Time - Filter / Sort Data Source Entirely

Oct 20, 2014

The recordsource is a query with over 6,000 records. The form currently lists the records in datasheet format with header and footer for things like buttons and filtering. The client wants to be able to go from page to page of the souce query, showing 100 records on the form at a time.

But at the same time, they should be able to filter or sort the data source in it's entirety. The person who created the form came up with what seems like an awful solution to the problem. It seems to use a random number generator to determine how many records to portray at a time. I see this in the code as well as in operation, because the number of records on page to page varies. It doesn't even start out at 100! Worse yet, using a sort on the page only sorts the records that are visible.

Forms :: Updating Calculated Dates From A Form To A Table

Mar 19, 2013

I have a table which is used to store info regarding medicines dispensed. I also have a corresponding Form to enter data. The fields in Table are

ID- number
Dispensed Date- date with dd/mm/yyyy format
Dispensed Type- text
Quantity- no. of days
Next Collection Date- date with dd/mm/yyyy format

The Form also contains same fields but it has a calculated field for ( Next Collection Date) where i calculate date using Dateadd function. Also the form has a Datasheet view. So records are added when I press Tab or Enter at last field.

Now the problem is the calculated dates arent getting updated in the table. And this is a huge problem as i have to run a query later where i will put a criteria on Next Collection Date.

Sort (order) Data On Forms

Apr 12, 2005

Hello,

This is related to "Old_value, new_value" thread I posted yestarday (Module&VBA).

I have a problem i missed yestarday. The code it's vorking great, but it allways takes the showed new_value and makes it old_value for the new record, and this is a problem, because the showed record is not the last for that customer.
So, I was thinking that if I make a new Autonumber field in my table, I could sort descending the values and this way the input form will allways show me the last entered data for that person.
As I noticed from a long time ago, if I sort a table that allready has a form, the form won't show the records sorted. Why? It's necessary to make the form again? I tried to order the data on the form from Properties window ->Data->Order by, but the ordering is Ascending and I need it Descending!
Can enybody help me?

Thanx,
Attila

Forms :: Add Button To Sort Records

Jan 19, 2015

Ive created a form and one of the fields is a field called "Due Date"

I want to create a button that once pressed will sort the records in order of due date with the oldest being record 1.

How I can get a button to manipulate fields.

Ive got a set of buttons at the bottom of my form (Ive placed them in the footer) that were set up using Access automatically. They go to first, last, next and previous records. Ive also set up two extra, one that creates a new record and another that sets the record.

The thing is that the set record button I would actually like it to take the data in a field called "Frequency", add a random number to it and then set the record.

Access 2013.

Table field is set to: Number/Byte, 0 decimals.

The field is used to sort records in a particular order.

In the form it is set to Standard, no Decimals and no Default Value.

When I create a new record and type in: 1, it makes it 10, 2 becomes 20 etc.

If I delete the value and type it in again, it does not add the 0.

It only does it in the form, not when I enter it in the table directly.

Forms :: Filter And Sort Using Custom Buttons

Sep 24, 2013

I am using Microsoft Access 2010. It provides great filtering and sorting options in the ribbon for any object. But what if I hide the ribbon and want to create custom buttons on the form to do the filtering and sorting job? There are some filter options available in macros but are not quite like the ribbon's own Filter button. When the Filter button is clicked from the Robbin, a filter menu pops-up under the active field, which doesn't happen when I try to do it using Macro functions like "Apply Filter" or "Set Filter" etc. I want to have that big "FILTER" button from the Ribbon on my form.

Can I Do A Sort Within A Sort On Combo Boxes?

Oct 16, 2006

Hi all,

I have a form in Access 2K that properly displays city, state and zip codes. As I type in each letter of a city's name into the combo box, I get the first city in the sorted list displayed (autofills). That's fine when there is only one zip code for a city, but when I enter "chic" for chicago I still get the first chicago zip code in my table.

It sure would be nice if I could do a "sort within a sort" so that if there were two or more records with the same city name then that whole group would drop down so I could choose one of the other zip codes. If this is doable, kindly point me to an example as I need all the help I can get.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Quick Question: Is There A Way To Sort Forms Like Reports With Sub-groupings?

Jun 16, 2006

I have one table holding lots of different data. That data is all the same, but when it comes to output, it needs to be separated by groupings (which I have defined within the table itself as group 1, group 2, etc)

I was wondering. i would like to do the same thing with forms so that input will be separated easily / visually for the data input. At this point, all I can think of is order ascending /etc, but this doesn't give any visual queues to the user when he has moved to the "next" part.

I don't like the option of just another text box beside it spamming a textbox per record of whats next.

By the way, the form display is continuous, and thats why I want a "grouping" option.

Any suggestions?

Forms :: Sort Putting One Record On Top Based On Yes / No Field

Mar 8, 2013

My table has 3 fields, Employee Number (text), Job Description (text) and Current (yes/no). The table keeps track of the Job Descriptions that an Employee has had along with his current Job Description (actually Title is more appropriate a word but client requested Description) So the table has records such as:

0001 - Floor Sweeping - no
0001 - Ceiling Cleaning - yes
0001 - Dumpster Turning - no

The yes signifies that that is the current Job Description for employee #0001 and the others with no are previous Job Descriptions that the employee #0001 has held.

Now - I created a form to add these records to the table and on that form I want a list box to show the records in the table for this employee but I want to sort it such that the current Job Description is listed first and the rest show up in alphabetical order following. I have the query to list all of the Description, but how can I get the current one to always appear on the top of the list?

Forms :: Date Sort Order - Newest To Oldest

Dec 17, 2013

I have a combobox (cbo_FileNames) that is unbound and gets fed on activate from a folder

Code:
Set SourceFolder = FSO.GetFolder("c:GundogManagerBackUp")

My problem is that the file names are as follows:

GundogManagerBackUp 02_12_13.xls
GundogManagerBackUp 03_12_13.xls
GundogManagerBackUp 07_08_13.xls
GundogManagerBackUp 16_11_13.xls
GundogManagerBackUp 17_12_13.xls

As you can see it consists of the name and a date of the backup. When it populates the combobox I want it to go in date order I newest to oldest. At the moment its going of the first number.
