Forms :: Default Value In A Form
Aug 1, 2013
I am having some difficulty with the default value in a form.I would like it to be the value in the previous record. I have been using DLast, but for some reason it doesnt seem to work for some of my fields. For the field "Station" it works but for the field "Field Officer" it returns an error in the form.

In the default property of a subform control I want to use a control of the main form without using names of forms, but using me and parent.
I used in default property of cboVATDetail: =Me.Parent!cboVAT, but it is not accepted. My aim is to use cboVAT of parent as default in cboVATDetail of child.

Is there a way to add default text on a form when it loads via vba?
I have a form (frm_add_targets), which has 15 fields on it and I would like to add default text to these fields if the field should be null.
For example: one of my form fields is called: w_text1 and I would like to default the value of this field to the following: Significant amount of revenue at risk 1)<50k,2)up to .5mil,3)up to 3mil,4)up to 5 mil,5)>5 mil should it be empty on load,

I have 2 tables: Product and Sales
In table Product, I have field "Product" and "Price"
In table Sales, I have field "Product" and "@ Price"
And there is form "Sales" which is based on table "Sales"
I would like to make "Price" the default value of "@ Price" where "Product" on form Sales = "Product" from table Product
I put in the following expression in the "After Update" event of Product on form Sales:
Private Sub Product_AfterUpdate()
Me.@Price.DefaultValue = DLookup("Price", "Product", "Product=" & Product)
End Sub
However, it keeps giving me this error:
Run time error '3075'
Syntax error (missing operator) in query expression 'Produk=abc'

I have a basic invoicing setup, with a Form (Invoices) and subform (InvoiceDetails).When in the subform, i have a combo box to choose a Product Code (saved in table as PCode).I want now to auto fill in the NettPrice and (Product Description) PDesc fields in the subform row - by looking these up in the Products Table and entering the data into the relevant fields on the Subform. This lookup will be based on PCode.
I tried all sorts of methods and the one i favour, if i could get it to work, is setting up a Function then calling this function from the Default Value property of each field involved.So, for the Product Description field (PDesc), i created a Function as follows:
Function GetDesc () As String
GetDesc = DLookup ("[PDesc]", "[Products]", "[PCode] = " & Forms!InvoiceDetails!PCode)
End Function
Then i try to call by entering =GetDesc () into the Default Value property for the PDesc field.I seem to have a syntax problem with my function code.I know some of my values like NettPrice need not be fields on my Invoice Details table, but the prices change and I also need to be able to overwrite prices etc when typing invoice.

I have a form with a date field that has a default value of =IIf(IsNull([DueDate]),Date()+14). I use the form for new entries and for modifying entries. So if it already has a value in it then don't put the default in For new records the default is fine until someone changes the date to something else and then enters other info into another field that has a default value.
How can I stop the date field from reverting back to the default value after someone has changed it.

Any way to change the default way a field is selected in a form so that it doesn't highlight all the text when you tab?I have the standard black text on a white background but when the whole field is highlighted it looks ugly and I think is quite difficult to read until you click into it.

I am running Access 2003 and have created a split form using one of the std form options. The file it is querying has about 20 fields per record. The split form that is generated has four columns of 10 fields each.
E.g.
Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4
Employee Fred Smith Weekending 24-June-2013
Age 25 Hourly_Rate $30.00
Normal_Time 24 Sick_Leave 8
Vacation_Hrs 8 Total_Hrs 40
etc
etc
Field10_Name, Field10 Contents, Field20_Name, Field20 Contents
When I view the form generated, some of these fields are too narrow and others are too wide. I would like to make the width of the fields various widths. But if I try to widen one field in the column all fields in the same column are made the same width. It appears as if they are multiply selected. Is there any way of selecting a single field and varying the width without impacting fields above or below it in the column?

I have a form that request the User to enter a Parcel ID number (99-9a-99-99aaa-aaa-aaaa). The sub form asks for the subdivision number, block number, and lot number. The subdivision number, block number and lot number are normally part of the Parcel ID number but sometimes they can be different. I want the sub form to fill in the Subdivision number, block number, and lot number as a default but allow the user to change the value if needed. currently the sub form will only show what is entered into the table itself if a change is made on the main form the sub form does not reflect the change.

I'm trying to make a filtered search form using "*" as a wildcard default value in combo boxes, this works for all the text fields except for the account number field (Numeric primary key). After quite a bit of reading up and searching, I tried using the following as the row source;
SELECT customers.ACCOUNT_NO, customers.CUSTOMER FROM customers; UNION SELECT "*", "All" From Customers;
But am still getting "#Error" in the combo box.

Where can I find the Hex or RGB value for the blue colour that Access 2010 uses by default for buttons on forms? I need to change some buttons to yellow (I know the code for that) but later change them back to the previous shade of blue, which is shown in the Properties pane "Accent 1, Lighter 40%".
By clicking in the standard colors area at the bottom of the colour chooser I can find a very similar blue #D6DFEC but it doesn't look quite right. And the "accent" colour does not give me a Hex value.Is that "usual" blue even one colour? How can I reset a button to that style having changed it?

I have a form with a number of text, date and combo boxes. We quite often add items that are very similar, so it would be useful if the values you've just entered were kept the same for the next item. Then you can just change the odd field that's different. Is there a way to achieve this?

On my form i have a control called WeekDate (this is always the start of the week (monday), below i have a subform (sbfrmWorksheetDetails) contained in a tab control (tabWeek) with 5 pages for each day of the week, i have written a select case statement in the onchange event for tabWeek which selects records based on the day of the week (so = WeekDate for Monday, +1 for Tuesday, +2 for Wednesday etc), this works great, i have also put a bit of code in the same onchange event that makes the default value for a new record for the field WorkDayDate in the subform +1 and +2 etc. this works great for existing records, each new line in the subform puts the right date in, however this seems to cock up when clicking on a new tab that doesn't have a record in..Here's the code.
Private Sub tabWeek_Change()
Select Case tabWeek
Case 0 'Monday
Forms!WeeklyWorksheet!sbfrmWorksheetDetails.Form.R ecordSource = "SELECT * FROM tblWorksheetDetails WHERE (((tblWorksheetDetails.WorkDayDate) = [Forms]![WeeklyWorksheet]![WorksheetDate]))"
Forms!WeeklyWorksheet!sbfrmWorksheetDetails.Form!W orkDayDate.DefaultValue = SQLDate(Me.WorksheetDate)
Case 1 'Tuesday
Same as above but WorksheetDate+ 1 for both select and default value.
Case 2 'Wednesday
Same but +2 etc.
End Select
End Sub
the SQLDate is some code that converts the american US date formatting to UK formatting. i'm not sure if that's the problem, but i'll post that anyway:
Function SQLDate(vDate As Variant) As String
If IsDate(vDate) Then
SQLDate = "#" & Format$(vDate, "dd/mm/yyyy") & "#"
End If
End Function
I can't quite work out what screwing this up upon adding a new record.

I am developing a customers and orders database for a coffee sales company. I have, of course, a tblOrders that contains the fields 'OrderDate' and 'CallBackDate'. The 'CallBackDate', in most cases, should be 14 days from the 'OrderDate' and self-populate as a default value based on the 'OrderDate'. No problem with the concept there.
I originally wrote the following expression as the control source of the 'CallBackDate':[OrderDate]+14
Yes, works beautifully, populates field just as it should. However, if, for some reason, they want the 'CallBackDate' to be more than 14 days, you can't override and type in your own date.
I have also tried making the control source the 'CallBackDate' field and the default value [OrderDate]+14, but then it doesn't default, only leaves the field open for manual entry. I need to be able to somehow do this within Access. Text fields will allow you to override a default value.

I have a form for new customers. One of the fields is the product they have chosen ("new model", "old model", etc.) in a drop down Combo box. I want default pricing to appear in the form based on the what user selects for the product. But, I am getting nothing shown in the price box after choosing the product.
I've tried two approaches but with no luck. What am I doing wrong? This is in the default property for "price"
=DLookUp("[priceDefault]","tbl_products","[product]= '" & [productChosen] & "'")
=DLookUp("[priceDefault]","tbl_products","[product]= " & [Forms]![frm_CustomerRegistration]![productChosen])
I'm using Access 2007 and Windows 7.

Is there a way to permanently set the alternate row color in access, so that whenever you create a form it will always be what I want.I know that I can make a template and always use the template, but I would prefer to just change the access settings if that is an option.I checked the access settings but couldn't see an option to do this.Also if you can set sub-form's to always have a transparent border, so that you don't have to change it every time you add a sub-form to a form.

I have a form where the control source of several text box fields includes a function that looks up values in a table that is not the form's record source. The default value in the property for these fields is set to 0. Unfortunately, when I migrate to a new record, these fields display the dreaded #Error. It should be noted that these fields are for display only and are not even in the form's underlying table.Here is an example of the control source for one of the fields:
Code:
=GetFYSummary("Budget",[ProjectID],0,0,"PPE","frm_ProjectFinancials")
Here is the start of the code for the function:
Code:
Public Function GetFYSummary(strField As String, lngProjectID As Long, lngFYYear As Long, intPeriod As Integer, _
strWBSType As String, strSource As String) As Long
[code]...
I'm trying to cover my bases to ensure that the displayed value of the field shows 0 rather than #Error.I even tried including a breakpoint at the first line of code in the function and it is never even triggered when I move to a new record.As soon as I type the first letter/number in a field that is tied to the form's record source, all of these display values do change to 0 appropriately.

I have a mainform and a datahseet subform.
Mainform = FrmProj_ProjectEntry
Subform = FrmProj_ProjectEntry_Sub1
On my mainform I have a text box (FrmProj_ProjectEntry.txtDueDt) where I enter an expected date.
On my subform I also have a textbox (FrmProj_ProjectEntry_Sub1.txtDueDt) for entering an expected date.
I would like the entered date on the mainform to become the default expected date on the subform for new records only. Once records are created the expected date can then be changed for each record.
How would I achieve this on an after update event on FrmProj_ProjectEntry.txtDueDt?
