Forms :: Delete Button Deleting Too Many Records

Aug 8, 2013

I have a columnar form with a sub-form based on an updatable query. I've created a delete button on the master form with the intention that if the user hits the delete button, it will delete the current record (like its supposed to, right?).

But what is happening is when the delete button is hit, it is asking twice for deletion confirmation and deleting the current record AND the next record. Even if I hit "Cancel" to stop the deletion, it still deletes the current and next records.

Each record has a primary unique ID that is included on the form (but not tab stopped - if that makes any difference), but it doesn't seem to be using that as the basis for deleting.

I've tried two different codes for this:

Private Sub Command110_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_Command110_Click
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdDeleteRecord
Exit_Command110_Click:

[Code] .....

Modules & VBA :: Command Button To Delete Records In Sub And Main Forms

Jun 24, 2013

I am trying to create a command button that will delete the current records in both the subform and main form.

I know how to create a command button that will delete the current record of which ever form I'm in (either the sub or main form) but I wish to do so both at the same time with one event procedure. I currently have been experimenting with a button in the subform but I don't really care if it's in the subform or main form.

Deleting Records From A Table Through A Form Button Event

Nov 14, 2014

I have a FrmCadastro which updates my master table TblCadastro. Primary key of the TblCadastro is an auto numbered field named CADID.Fields CPF, NAME, FIN, NAT, TIP, MOT, and INSTREQ of the FrmCadastro are mandatory. My rule is that If any of these fields is null then the record cannot be saved (cannot be added into TblCadastro).

FrmCadastro has two distinct buttons, as follows: BtSave (to save either newly included record or changed record) and BtDelete (to delete a chosen record from my master table).To delete a record has not been a problem because under the click event of the BtDelete I use the following command lines to successfully eliminate an existing record (previously saved) from the TblCadastro:Dim numRecord As Integer

numRecord = Me.CADID
Dim SQL As String
DoCmd.SetWarnings False
SQL = "DELETE * FROM tblcadastro WHERE cadid = " & numRecord
DoCmd.RunSQL SQL
DoCmd.SetWarnings True

To save a complete record (properly filled in) has not been a problem either since the code takes care of that very well.When the user is in the process of adding a new record through the FrmCadastro two different user behaviors can take place:

1. Irregular entering - The user for some reason just give up saving the record (he decides to add the new record later, for instance) by selecting the option Save = No, or
2. Incomplete record - By mistake the user try to save an incomplete record (a record that shows any mandatory field as null).

I coded the following command lines under the click event of the BtSave to take care of deleting those records... BUT it does NOT work. The system reads each line of the code, find the record properly, close the form as expected, but the incomplete record STILL REMAINS in the TblCadastro. I do not understand why, since the code is pretty much the same of the one in the BtDelete.

Code:
Private Sub bt_save_Click()
If MsgBox("The record was changed. Do you want to save it?", vbQuestion + vbYesNo, Me.Caption) = vbYes Then
If MsgBox("WARNING! Incomplete record will be automatically deleted from database. If you did not fill in the fields CPF, NAME, FIN, NAT, TIP, MOT, and INSTREQ, the record will not be saved.", vbOKOnly, Me.Caption) Then
If Not IsNull(CPF) And Not IsNull(Name) And Not IsNull(FIN) And Not IsNull(NAT) And Not IsNull(TIP) And Not IsNull(MOT) And Not IsNull(INSTREQ) Then

[code]...

What should I code to exclude both the incomplete record and irregular entering thru the button Save (options Yes and No) ?

Forms :: Delete Row From Table Button?

Jul 16, 2013

The purpose of this database is to have a simple form that inputs data into a table. There is a subform view on the form so they are able to see their data that was submitted into the table.

Problem:I have made an attempt at making a Delete Row button. The idea behind this is to allow them to select a row on the subform view and then delete it from the table.

Form = frmEvaluationForm
Subform = frmReviewSubForm
Table = tblEvaluationDatabase

figuring out what is causing this error 3075 (syntax error in query expre. Is there a more specific way to delete a row that has been selected?

Access 2007

Code:

Private Sub cmdDelete_Click()
'check existing selected record
If Not (Me.frmReviewSubForm.Form.Recordset.EOF And Me.frmReviewSubForm.Form.Recordset.BOF) Then
'confirm delete
If MsgBox("Delete this record?", vbQuestion + vbYesNo, "Delete") = vbYes Then
'delete now
CurrentDb.Execute "DELETE * FROM tblEvaluationDatabase WHERE CAccount = " & Me.txtCAccount
'refresh data in list
Me.frmReviewSubForm.Form.Requery
End If
End If
End Sub

Forms :: Deleting ComboBox Lookup Options But Keep Old Records

May 14, 2014

I have a ComboBox which looks up the records in a query. The query contains the names of current employees. The table upon which the query is based lists Employees and their start date and finish date. The Query is based on finish date being Null (ie they're still working here).

In the main form which details tasks, I would like the ComboBox to just list current employees (which it does as it's based on the query) but when an employee leaves, their name is deleted from all previous records.

Is there a way to keep the ComboBox options limited to current staff, while also keeping the names of previous employees in the form?

I checked the table which the form is based on and it still has the values, so I'd like to show in the form too as that's what people will be working on.

Delete Entries From Combo Box Without Deleting Historic Data

Aug 3, 2013

I'm using Access 2010. I have a form that has a combo box. The combo box lists all employee names and one has to be selected. I've been adding employees over time as new employees come. This DB is 3 years old so there are many employees showing in the combo box selection that are no longer here. I'd like to only have the current employees visible but I do not want to just delete them from the Table because then the historic data wouldn't be complete. How can I only show the current employees in the combo box and maintain the data in the table?

Forms :: Move Records To New ID Or Delete?

Apr 26, 2014

I have an Equipment Form with a Supplier subform. The Supplier subform also has a subform, Equipment Pricing Records.

I have the ability to change the Supplier via a combo box, but Equipment Pricing Records become orphaned.

What I would like to do is when a Supplier is about to be changed, for the user to have the option to either a) delete the sub records, or b) the sub records to move across to the new Supplier.

I know I will need to use the after update event once the delete or move decision is made, but I cant think how to identify the records and then either delete or move them to the new Supplier ID.

The EquipmentID will never change.

Fields are;

EQUIPMENT form;
EquipmentID

SUPPLIER form;
SupplierID
EquipmentIDFK

PRICING RECORD form;
PricingRecordID
SupplierIDFK

Forms :: Check Boxes To Enter And Delete Records?

Jun 24, 2013

I have a form to enter archaeological features in a feature table. Each feature is present in one or more archaeological strata, for which I have a stratum table. There are 41 strata in total named 1A, 1B, 2A etc. On the form I want a checkbox for each of these and then to make it add a record to the stratum table for each of the selected strata. The stratum table and feature table are connected by the feature_primary_ID (key in feature table), so when making a new record I need this primary ID and the respective strata to be entered in the fields.

At the moment I've got something like this:

Code:
Private Sub Check1_Click()
If Check1.Value = True Then
DoCmd.RunSQL "INSERT INTO tbl_FEAT_STRAT (feature_primary_ID, stratum_ID) VALUES ((feature_primary_ID of present record),Label2.Caption)"
Else
DoCmd.RunSQL "DELETE FROM tbl_FEAT_STRAT WHERE feature_primary_ID = (feature_primary_ID of present record)"
End If
End Sub

For starters, I dont know how to get the feature_primary_ID from the features table (also represented in the form as a field) and use it to make a new record in the strata table.

Second, when using this code I need a copy for each of the 41 strata checkboxes. Creating lots of redundant code. Easier would be a generic code that loops through all the checkboxes after they've been checked and then add new records for each of the checked boxes. Tried something with a command button, but couldn't get it to work.

Deleting A Record Through A Button In A Form?

Mar 15, 2006

Help needed! (Apologies if this is a stupid question !)

I'm making a database for my OCR A2 coursework.

I have a table set up for tenants, and have created a form through which the user can delete a record from that table.

I have a look up combo box, to select the record (tenant) for deletion, and a command button - using the wizard that came up I have selected "delete record" - but it doesnt work! It doesn't delete the record i have selected.

Why Is this not happening ? It also doesn't bring up a warning box saying "you are about to delete one record" or something similar?

Thanks xzxx

Forms :: Add Button To Sort Records

Jan 19, 2015

Ive created a form and one of the fields is a field called "Due Date"

I want to create a button that once pressed will sort the records in order of due date with the oldest being record 1.

How I can get a button to manipulate fields.

Ive got a set of buttons at the bottom of my form (Ive placed them in the footer) that were set up using Access automatically. They go to first, last, next and previous records. Ive also set up two extra, one that creates a new record and another that sets the record.

The thing is that the set record button I would actually like it to take the data in a field called "Frequency", add a random number to it and then set the record.

Forms :: Update Records On Button Click?

Jul 3, 2014

I have a form listing out a bunch of clients. There is a button associated with each client that pulls open a new form with additional client information. There is information that is calculated on the backend and stored in the database when a user is inserted or different fields updated (i.e. there are reports that are due different time frames after the clients admission date. I automatically populate the database with those dates once the clients admission date is updated).

The problem I am having is that when I enter a new client or update a current client with new information and then click the button to go to their details page, those auto-populated dates are not populated. I am calling a subroutine that is within a module when the button is clicked. The subroutine works fine at other instances throughout the application so I know there is no issue with the code. I even call it if they click the close button, but before the information is auto-populated, I had to run a Me.Requery on the close button. I think this is because the records are not actually being updated in the database. I even have a DoCmd.Save acForms, "Clients" command before running the Call updateDatabase subroutine, but that doesn't do the trick. I can't run the Me.Requery after the click of the details button because when I do that it always opens the details form to the first ORDER BY record. I think that I need to update the selected record and re-call it in order for this to work.

Forms :: Button To Autofill A Field In All Records

I know all of the main features and can even do a bit with macros and VBA. I need creating a button to auto-fill a field in all the records in a table.

I have a database centered around a table called tblCand; each record contains a date field called intDate. On the main form, initDash, when the user hits a certain button, a window pops up (either a message box or perhaps a separate form) that asks the user to type in a date, which would be stored as intDateDB. When the user hits OK, I want the value of intDateDB to replace the value of intDate in all the records in tblCand.

I'm not sure whether this is called auto-filling or auto-populating...
