Forms :: Delete Record Fails To Work

Mar 28, 2013

I'm very new to Access, Macros, and VBA. Basically I have a form in ContinuousForm format that has a delete button next to each record. It's been working fine for the past few hours but for some reason Access can't delete the corresponding record(s) (DeleteRecord) now. The button is run by a macro that's made by a wizard.

Also, is there an appropriate way to show code (if that is the term used) for Macros?

Forms :: Main Form With 2 Subforms Fails To Open Current Record

May 12, 2014

I have a main form "frmDriverNoticeRecord" with 2 subforms, "frmSubDriverNotice" and "frmSubVehicleRecord"..The main form uses "IncidentID" as the PK. Each form stores data in its own table. The tables are related via IncidentID and there is a 1-many relationship between tblIncident (main) and tblDN (sub) and tblVehicle (sub).

I have a form "frmIncidentLog" displaying records in a table view with a few fields for quick reference and to allow selection of a single record for detailed viewing. I created a command button with the intent to open the "frmDriverNoticeRecord" at the current record. The main form and child link fields appear to be linked correctly; i.e. IncidentID on all three. If I open the form manually it opens and I can use it and search and filter as I want. If I try to open it via the command button It opens a small window asking for the IncidenID, when I enter theIncidentID number, it opens the form to the first record every time.Here is the code:

Private Sub comOpenDR_Click()

Dim frmName As String
Dim recID As String
frmName = "frmDriverNoticeRecord"
recID = "[IncidentID]=" & Me![IncidentID]
DoCmd.OpenForm frmName, , , recID
End Sub

I tried running the the DoCmd.OpenForm command directly from the button using the where condition (in various manners) with the same results.

Queries :: Detect When Query Fails To Find A Record

Oct 29, 2013

I have ASSET_TYPE, MANUFACTURER and MODEL tables.

I have a Table ASSET_COMBO that links to the above tables.

I have a form to create amend an ASSETS table. The form uses combo fields to filter the options available to the user. I.E the User Picks Manufacturer then selects from list of Asset Types provided by that Manufacturer, then selects from list of Models.

I want to create a form to allow create and amend records on the ASSET_COMBO Table.

The problem I have is that I want to ensure that there are no duplicates on ASSET_COMBO Table. I know that I can Select Multiple keys from the table with no duplicates allowed. But from what I have read this can cause problems. Is there a simple way that I can detect that a query on the ASSET_COMBO Table has returned a valid record or has not found a record.

Forms :: Open Form To New Record / ComboBox Won't Work

Sep 25, 2013

I have a database with a Supply Receipt Form. The first field in the form is a combobox for the user to select a material/supply. I'd like for the form to open to a new record every time. When I use:

DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNewRec

in the Form On Open property, I lose the ability to select the material/supply. Same thing happens when I set the Data Entry property to Yes.

Forms :: Record Navigation In A Form Fail To Work

Jun 2, 2013

I have a data base in which there is a table where each record describe properties of one fishing trip. The first column in the table is a number (unique but not autonumber format) and I already made 10,000 records with only this index number . Now me and others in my lab are entering data to this table for each of the records.

The data entry is done using form which show one record at a time (lets call it "sail_info_F").

I made another form which has only two elements:

1. text box in which I enter a number
2. button which opens the data entry form ("sail_info_F") showing the record with the same index number as the number I enter on the text box.

(the code for this button is "DoCmd.OpenForm "sail_info_F", , , "[RECORD_NUMBER]=" & Me.TEXT_BOX_NAME"

So far so good and it does open the form in the wanted record. BUT when the form opens I can't use the buttons I have placed in this forms which move between records. Those were made with the wizard, and are working OK when I open the form directly without using the second form (The one which opens "sail_info_F" on a specific record).

Forms :: Record Cannot Be Delete Or Changed

Aug 7, 2015

I have a "Search" form that I am using to search through a query in a list box of all of my Customers. Once the record that I am wanting to view comes up I highlight it and click a "View" button to bring up another form with the customers full record. When this form is open I am able to update the customer information and add User's to it if necessary.

My problem comes after I click on my save and close button that takes me back to me search form. I want to close the search form and the error I get is "The record cannot be deleted or changed because table "tblUserProfile" includes related records." I click OK and get a SECOND error stating "You can't save this record at this time. MS Access may have encountered an error while trying to save a record. If you close this object now, the data changes you made will be lost. Do you want to close the database object anyway?"I have already made my changes and saved them in the form with the customer record so am not sure why I am getting an error when trying to close the Search form.

I am using an embedded macro on the view button. OpenForm with a Where condition [tblCustomerRecord]![Profile ID]=[Forms]![frmSearchCustomer]![Profile ID]

I have the listbox bound to the Profile ID. I have not been able to get the view button on the form to work without this step.Is there a better way to view a specific record from my listbox results?

Forms :: Disable Delete A Record Shortcut CTRL

Mar 24, 2015

I would like to disable the shortcut, CTRL - which allows a user to delete a record. A user accidentally deleted a record while typing in an email address that had an underscore in the email address. While trying to type it she must have hit the CTRL key instead of the Shift key follow by the -. She noticed the delete confirmation, but not thinking, pressed enter and thus confirmed the deletion of the record.

Other than telling her to pay more attention, how can I disable the shortcut in Access 2013?I tried using the Application.OnKey "^-", "" but I continue getting the error method or data member can not be found

Changing Record Source - No Functions / Events Work

Oct 24, 2012

I have created a system consisting of a data entry form etc. It was originally connected to one record source exported from a sharepoint site.I had to add a field to the sharepoint site and so i created this additional field and re-exported the data and changed the forms record source and all occurences in the code of previous to new record source.

However, this change of record source produces the following error on every single event.The expression On Load you entered as the event property setting produced the following error: member already exists in an object from which this object module derives.

I tried to break the code as soon as it hits the load function to track the error - but it doesn't even run this function so the code is not executing at all.When i connect back to the old record source it works fine.

Modules & VBA :: Loop - Append Query To Work Referring To Quantity Value For One Record

Jul 29, 2015

I have a part table summary with various quantities 1-1000 and want to create a new table where part number repeats with quantity of 1 corresponding back to the sum. If part 123456=20 then this would repeat 20 x and each record Qty=1

Start with summary
--================
Part Qty
111000 2
222000 3

End result all Qty=1
--================
Part Qty
111000 1
111000 1
222000 1
222000 1
222000 1
--================

I stared with a loop and was able to get an append query to work referring to the quantity value (3) for one record from tbl_temp to tbl_main, but not really sure how to advance through many records.

For n = 1 To [Forms]![MainScreen]![Text7]
DoCmd.OpenQuery "qry_Update_Qty"
'DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNewRec
Next n

maybe a do while or some other approach?

Delete Record

Dec 4, 2006

I have a library database that I want to delete a record in my tblStatus when the book is returned. I have found the deleteobject function but it appears that that will delete like a table or query or report or something like that. I have no need to keep track of how many times a certain book has been checked out or that John Doe has checked out books X, Y and Z. As a mater of fact that is exactly what I don't want so I just want to delete the record that says Book ZZZ was checked out by John Doe. When the book is returned I just want it available for some one else.

Thanks in advance,

Rick

Delete Record

May 31, 2005

Hi all, facing a little problem with my forms. Access gives me headaches everyday. Haha.

In a continuous form, I have a delete button with the following code

Private Sub cmdDelete_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_cmdDelete_Click

DoCmd.SetWarnings False
If MsgBox("Confirm deletion of the record?", vbQuestion + vbYesNo + vbDefaultButton2, "Delete?") = vbYes Then
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdSelectRecord
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdDeleteRecord
End If
Exit_cmdDelete_Click:
DoCmd.SetWarnings True
Exit Sub
Err_cmdDelete_Click:
MsgBox Err.Description
Resume Exit_cmdDelete_Click
End Sub

However, after the record is deleted, the focus is immediately set to the next field which creates a new record of null data. And since the fields are all required, I am forced to enter data into the new record, if not a pop up will inform to user to enter data.

I do not wish for this new record to be created everytime I delete a row. How do I go about it?

I'm learning more each day! Thanks in advance..

Delete A Record

Feb 13, 2006

I have a problem with 1 of my form (FrmEditDrawing) that I use to edit a specific record from 1 of my table (TblDrawing). The user will see the Data for each drawing on a form that I called (FrmViewDrawing) and will be able to edit the data for each drawing by clicking a button that will open the form "FrmEditDrawing" on the specific record. In that case I can't edit and change the data for any fields but if I open the form on its own, I can edit and change the data ?
I guess it has something to do with the fact that I open twice the same recordsets which locks the table, I am not sure. What would be the different option to solve this problem?

Do You Want To Delete This Record - Pop Up Box

Dec 4, 2006

When you want to delete a record out of MS Access, you get the default pop-up message confirming you want to delete the record [YES] [NO].

I have a few users who are not paying attention and hitting a combination of keys (I am guessing Alt + D) and getting this message. They then do not look, and confirm the deletion of the record.

I am thinking of two ways around this.

1) Change the default to [NO] when this pop-up dialog opens up (the default is [YES]).

2) Disable this pop-up box, and then create my own to confirm the deletion.

Are either of these possible, or has anyone ever had to work around this issue? I have never had an issue with this, and was not sure how to attack it.

Let me know.

Thank you,

T.J.

Delete Record

Nov 18, 2004

i have an order form somewhat like the northwind database one. I called mine A5_frmOrders. i have a subform called A6_sfrmOrders, which is in datasheet view. I need to add a "Delete Record" button into the subform, but when i put it in the subform footer, it doesnt appear.

Like any orders subform, i have "Item", "Product", "Quantity", "Unit Price" and "Subtotal" with their corresponding labels in the Detail Section. I tried changnig the subform to "Continuous Form" and doing this :
header : Labels for "Item", "Product", "Quantity", "Unit Price" and "Subtotal"
detail : "Item", "Product", "Quantity", "Unit Price" and "Subtotal" for user to fill in
footer : Delete Record button

but even when i change to Continuous Form, it doesnt allow me to separate "Item" from its label and put one in the header and one in the detail...

how do i add in the delete record button? Is it true i cannot use datasheet view if i want a delete button?
Thanks
