Forms :: Display Description Field Instead Of Primary Key In Datasheet Of Split Form
Aug 8, 2014
I have a split form on my database where I have my combo boxes bound to a primary key but they display the description field so it's much easier to understand. Is there a way to do this with option groups? In other words, I would like the datasheet part to display the option group labels rather than the values so it is easier to understand.
I'm using a split form with the datasheet on the left.
When I use the 'Find' in the Navigation buttons at the bottom of the form, it refuse to find text in a particular text box.
The text box is a memo field and is enabled.
Example:
I have text in the memo field which is a title of an episode - "The Outcast."
When I start typing "the" it finds this text in the memo field. But when I type the entire title it the finds the text in another field. ie "out."
I've tried the 3 different Search setting in options. When I use the Find command from the ribbon it work ok as long as I select the text box to search in first.
I am pretty new to VBA and I am having the same problem of hiding and un-hiding columns on a datasheet of a split form. I am building a system that will be used in front of customer and therefore wish to hide columns that contain cost sensitive data. The same forms need to be able to show the Sales Rep the hidden columns simply by ticking a box. Basically a toggle on and off of hidden columns.
I have been playing around with the code below (which i found in another forum) to hide the Field called COO when I click the tick box called chkHIdeFields check box. This works on a Single form but not on a datasheet of a split form.
Private Sub chkHideFields_Click() ' Note: vbTrue = -1 If Me.chkHideFields = vbTrue Then Me.COO.Visible = True Else: Me.COO.Visible = False End If End Sub
I have been able to hide the column of my split form by using the ColumnHidden property of the On Load event just as a proof of concept that the ColumnHidden property actually works to hide a column, which it does. This is the code that im using to hide the column called COO.
Me.COO.ColumnHidden = True
However if I then set it to = False and then close and open the form, it doesn't unhide the column. the only way I can unhide the column is to do it from the Form view via the un-hide dialogue pop up box.
I have two issues here, the first one is getting the form to recognize when to hide and when to show the column of the datasheet on the split form and the second is to get the code to for the check box method.
Lastly once I get it working for 1 field I need to be able to define a list of 7 or 8 other fields all at the same time.
I am new to Access but I worked with data and database before (but not with Access...). I am currenty trying to set up a database where multiple users will have to enter the data.
What I am struggling with is how to customize the form. I would like to make the form as easy as possible so that other users can easily enter the data. For example, how can I add the Description of the field in the form? Suppose the FieldName is Country, the Data Type numeric and the description is "List countries the study was conducted in" how can I make sure this appears in the form?I have used textbox under Form>Format but it does not seem to work: the textbox remains empty!
Basically, some clever soul has used coded fieldnames but then added a description telling you what the field contains, and I need to return this description.
Am trying to display images on a form in a split database. I add the attachment field to the associated form's table and add the attachment control to the form but cannot get the image(s) to display on the form (the control remains blank). I can add the image(s) in table view (and display them) but double clicking on the form control also does nothing.
I think I must be doing at least the basics correctly as if I try the same thing to an earlier, non-split version of the database, all works as expected. Are there additional steps required to do this thing in a split database?
Have created a form to display/change table info in Datasheet View and added the form to a switchboard. When selected from switchboard, it displays a single record. When executed from the Forms (objects), it displays in Datasheet view.? How can I get it to display in Datasheet View from Switchboard?
A have a query that selects a multivalue field. The query forms the record source for a subform. The text values in the multivalue field are displayed in the query, but when I save this and view the data in the subform datasheet view the values revert to the primary key values. They are 1,2,3,4 instead of the text values
I have a database i have been working on (access 2007). In the past I have been using a list box to select records. Now I would like to use the datasheet view or split form view. Everything seemed fine until I moved to linked tables.
My problem is, with the same query, the listbox is lightning fast at changing the recordsource.
When I change the recordsource on a datasheet view or split form, it takes... ages and shows "Calculating.." On larger recordsets it freezes access.
I have a split form (frmPatient Schedules) that shows me my records in the datasheet view at the bottom section of the form. My records have a field with a checkbox (ckbxHOLD).how can I get the records that don't have their checkbox checked to be copied as new records to a different table (tblHome Visits)?
I have a split form, populated with my DVD movies, with the datasheet on the left. On the right I have 3 fields. Title Movie Type and Movie Description. All are enabled. But, today I was unable to select the Description field. I would click in it but the cursor would not enter to field. I needed to select another field and the then I was able to select Description. I was able to select the field programmatically. I needed to find a form from a backup and replace it.
How to correct the issue below. I created a split form and I have 2 combo boxes that allow multiple selections. The one combo box for LOB (line of business) works perfect and does not create duplicate records in the datasheet view of the split form. The 2nd combo box with multiple selections creates duplicate records in the datasheet depending on how many selections are made.
I have checked this in the underlying table and there are no duplicate records, it is only in the split form datasheet. I have checked settings and configuration between the 2 combo boxes that are reacting differently and they appear to be identical...
I am running Access 2003 and have created a split form using one of the std form options. The file it is querying has about 20 fields per record. The split form that is generated has four columns of 10 fields each.
E.g. Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4
Employee Fred Smith Weekending 24-June-2013 Age 25 Hourly_Rate $30.00 Normal_Time 24 Sick_Leave 8 Vacation_Hrs 8 Total_Hrs 40 etc etc Field10_Name, Field10 Contents, Field20_Name, Field20 Contents
When I view the form generated, some of these fields are too narrow and others are too wide. I would like to make the width of the fields various widths. But if I try to widen one field in the column all fields in the same column are made the same width. It appears as if they are multiply selected. Is there any way of selecting a single field and varying the width without impacting fields above or below it in the column?
I am trying loop through a datasheet so that I can copy the contents of one field into another form.
I have tried using the bellow code to do this on a button click event. However when i run it I get an error telling me that the object doesn't support this property or method. Im not quite sure what this means.
Dim rst As DAO.Recordset Set rst = Forms![Roll Out - Site Form]![Roll Out - Sign items pick list].RecordsetClone Do Until rst.EOF [Roll Out - Sign items added].Form![Code] = [Roll Out - Sign items pick list].[Form]![Item Category]
I have a form with a button that pops up a datasheet with a number of records. I need the dbl click event to populate a hidden text field with the id of the item that was double clicked.
Ive found the double click even and can get the double click to close the window, but i need to populate the text field as well.
I am using Access 2010. I have a subform(continuous form) that I display as a datasheet and allow filtering. I display the record count by using Me.Recordset.RecordCount in the subform's form_current event. This value updates properly based on the column filtering except when the filtering displays 0 records.
When there are 0 records, the form_current event does not fire and I cannot figure out how to trap when this occurs so that I can display '0 records found'. How I can tell when the column filtering causes 0 records to display in the datasheet? Is there an event that fires when the user filters using the column headings arrow?
In Access 2010, if you have a form with a subform in datasheet view, and you move the focus away from the subform, how can you tell which record(s) on the subform are selected?
When the subform has the focus, the selected row is shown with a blue/grey tint. But as soon as the subform loses the focus, this disappears and all rows look identical.
Its an issue as I have 2 datasheet subforms on my main form, with the 2nd showing records related to the record selected in the 1st. But as soon as the 2nd subform receives the focus, it is impossible to see which record in subform 1 was selected.
I have tried conditional formatting, but that does not work.
I want to build a form for my users to allow them easy access to data shown in datasheet or continuous forms view. However, the problem is that they want to also see on the same form Contact details (Name & Tel.no). This is a one to many relationship with the underlying query so I cannot build this data into that query as it then makes it un-updateable.I had thought of putting the contact details into a subform and then putting that onto the continuous form but Access does not allow that.I am currently trying to get it work using an Unbound listbox and then using either a query or DLOOKUP but so far I cant get it to work.It seems to be something to do with it being on a continuous form.Any ideas please?
I created a form to enter the lookup data and build the SQL string to create a recordset in VBA that is a subset of the original data. Using the Form wizard I created a form that displays ALL of the records in that original table (actually a QUERY). What I want to do is open this second form but have it reference the recordset I built in VBA.
I have a form with a memo field which is used by users to input transctiptions of Customer Contacts but the form is getting busy and the box now only 2.77 wide X 0.683 High.
this makes it impossible to read on the form even as a text box with scrolling..how to add a mouse over on it so that it fires up a large text/meg style box to display the contents?
I am teaching myself Access 2007. I have a successfully imported my database to a table, and now I want to design Forms and Reports. It seems Access wants to basically display the data in either one of two formats, either Columnar, or Tabular. One Form displays the data in columns, with one field per line, and the other displays the data in rows, with one whole record per line. I need a Form (and Report) which will display more than one field per line, and use more than one line. For example, some lines will have 2 or 3 fields, then the next line may have only 1 or 2 fields. Following is a print-out of a record from my existing database (stored in a comma delineated .txt file and read and printed by a program written in DOS, QBasic): . 461-1036 :c: Assignment of O&GL Feb 28, 2008 Filed: Mar 20, 2008 Grantor(s): Plains Exploration & Production Company; Plains Resources Inc.; Pogo Producing Company LLC; Pogo Panhandle 2004 LP; Latigo Investments LLC; Latigo Gas Services LP; Latigo Petroleum Inc.; Latigo Petroleum Texas LP Grantee(s): Oxy USA Inc. Comment: Assigns 50% of Assignors' interest; CORRECTION ASSIGNMENT at 466-493 deleting certain properties from the description
[The attached .pdf file shows a better view of the print-out]This data is abstracted version of a document recorded in the public record in a courthouse. On the first line there are 3 fields:
1) the Volume-page, 2) A notation that we have a copy of the document, and 3) the title of the document.
On the 2nd line there are 2 fields:
1) the date of the document and 2) the date the document was filed in the courthouse.
The next 3 fields are displayed one at a time in columns. How I can get Access 2007 to display like this?
In short can I display a field on a form that is not in the forms field list without using a sub-form? I am trying to show a value from a query on this form. I tried this in the control source: [qry_op500_entry_delta]![countofphone model] I get an error stating that this is not in my field list for the form. If the answer is No or if needed I can give more information on what I am trying to do.
In my form (source tblJobs) i input a contract number from tblContracts. but i would also like it to show the contract address when the contract number is entered. Both fields belong to tblContracts but i only wish to enter the contract number, the address will just be used as a reference as it isnt something i would have to enter again.
So for example
112 - Main Road
If i enter 122 in my ContractNo field i would like it to show the contract address for that specific contract.
My intentions are to get my combo box to display data into a field in my form, when it is changed/selection is made. So far my form has the following:
Combobox: CBOCharacters Field: CharacterGender
Both of these are in the same table; tbl_Characters. The data type for CBOCharacters is a number and its called CharacterID in the table.
So far I have created this piece of code:
Private Sub CBOCharacters_AfterUpdate() Me.CharacterGender = DLookup("CharacterGender", "qry_StillNeeded", "[CharacterID]= " & Me.CBOCharacters) End Sub
When I run this event procedure i get an error:
Runtime error '2471'
The expression you entered as a query parameter produced this error '[CharacterID]'
