Forms :: Drop Down Box To Find Records (web Database)
Apr 21, 2013
I am using Access 2010 and the web database so having a bit of an issue. I have tried google but no luck really - seems complex and confusing.
Basically I have a table which has column 1 of the unique id and column 2 is the project name.
When you click the drop down on the form, I want it to show column 2 (the project name) and when you click this, on the form I want it to find that record.

I can create a dropdown list to filter my form (text) however im struggling to get back to showing all the data prior to my drop down selection.
ive tried refreshing and requerying with no success.
I would either like to get a drop down with the addition of "all records" in it or a refresh button.
the form that this is on is a sub form.
I could reference the drop down to a number if required.
Additionally: When I have selected my choice from the drop down box it blacks out "selects all". Is there away of making the list just select and lose focus so to speak.

I have a fairly large table with approx 15k records. I have a form where I have a drop down/select control box that displays all of these records showing a few of the fields. I select one of these records to create a new record as it places one of the fields into the new record. The problem is that there are so many records that it takes a lot of scrolling to get through all the records.
Once I scroll through all the records, the next time I scroll, it is very fast and shows all the records in one scrolling. However, when I get off the form and then go back it starts over with all the records having to scroll through etc.. What I want to be able to do is have all these records loaded so that they can be scrolled through quickly the first time I open up the form.

There are 3 drop down button that should filter category of items in a database:
Category 1
Category 2
Category 3
Whatever users choose in category 1, it will filter the items in Category 2. whatever users choose in category 2, it will filter the items in category 3. users can choose 1 to 2 categories or sometimes the 3 categories. the items will show in a subform. the subform are getting the items from a query. the dropdown button gets its value from a Table.
My challenge is that, i want to get the number of items in Category 1 once users chose it. if they choose something in Category 2 the number of items will change also. there will be 3 textbox for Category 1 COUNT, Category 2 COUNT, and Category 3 COUNT.
as of now, what im getting is only the filtering of Category 1 and Category 1 COUNT.

I wish to be able to count how many times a primary key is being used in another table. In other words:
I have a Game table that lists a set of games by catalogue number, CatalogueNo. I need to create a way to find out how many times that key has been used in a GameCopy table. In the GameCopy table I create a number of stock items (StockNo) using the CatalogueNo from the Game table.
If I can in some way create a query that simple lists each CatalogueNo with its total number of copies that will suffice. I know it is most likely very simple but I just do not know how to implement it within Access without using VBA.

I built a form—frmDataEntry—whose Record Source is a query called qryEvent, which contains various fields from tblEvent. The primary key field is called EventID.
I also build a subform—sfmDataEntry—whose Record Source is a query called qryEventImages, which contains various fields from tblItem. One of those fields is ItemEventLink, which links records from tblItem to the EventID field in tblEvent. There is also an image box in this subform: filling in the field ImageFile with an image name (example: Logo.jpg) causes that image to display in the image box.
I’ve inserted the subform into the form using the Subform Wizard. Now I’m getting an error message that says "2450: Microsoft Access cannot find the reference form ‘sfmDataEntry’." Why this is popping up. The Link Master Fields and Link Child Fields sections of the property sheet are filled in correctly. Moreover, the subform records are still appearing, but the images linked to each record aren’t loading.

If i have a drop down list containing employee type names e.g. Plumber plasterer bricklayer from the employee type table. How would i select the bricklayer and bring back records associated with the selected employee type . I have done a query to go and get the records for the employee type and it works for one employee type.
But I cannot get the button to go and get the records when i select different employee types from the drop down list. I could add loads of buttons with the same query and change the employee type but looks a bit crowded and untidy. Am i missing something simple or is it just complicated.

I'm using Access 2010 and now trying to save a selected record to another table which I have no clue where to find the "Code Builder" to put my code on after spending hours and hours, I managed to create a form, but couldn't figure out where to save this data.
All I need is to put this line
"INSERT INTO ResultTable (StudentID, CourseID, PaidID, Comments) VALUES (" & cboStudentSelect & ", " & cboCourseSelect & ", " & cboPaymentSelect & ", " & txtComments & ") WHERE StudentID = cboStudentSelect
Perhaps, the new Access 2010 doesn't use this or something new that I couldn't it.
Attached is the file.

I have created a Db in MS Access 2010 and under Options > Current Database I have done the following:
- Used drop down to select a form I want to display on opening
- Unchecked display navigation pane
- Unchecked allow full menus
This works how I want it to, perfectly. I then send it to a client who also has MS Access 2010 and when they open the file the form I have told it to open doesn't open, the navigation bar is displayed (with the form I want to open highlighted) and the full menus show but are locked.
What's going on? Is it some security setting the client has that isn't letting the opening procedure execute properly?

I am running access 2007 in Win7. I have a time sheet application that I wrote many years ago. Within same I have a button to press to open a new form to enter time sheet data. The data for the form comes from a query that links Employee and the Timesheet history data file.In an effort to upgrade and make the application more portable and available to multiple users, I decided to migrate the data tables to a Microsoft SQL 2012 database. Various Access reports based on the SQL database run ok. But if I try to open a form to add a new record I get the following error message:-
"Run-Time Error '2105' You can't go to the specified record."
If I debug the error it shows:-
Private Sub
Form_Open(Cancel As Integer)
DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNewRec
End Sub
In an effort to make sure the original time sheet form load worked ok on the original tables, I changed the query to feed off tables in the local Access program and have no issues. It works perfectly. Also if I open the Timesheet Query that feeds the form I can add new records. However if I change the Query to look at the same tables on the SQL database I cannot add records. I can search all records from first to last but not add a record into the query. The add record arrow is greyed out on the query results.

simple table 6 columns
startdate
enddate
custacct
salescost
salesprice
salesqty
the txt file is set up so that there is a header record, 4,999 lines of data, then the same header record, then 4,999 lines of data, then a header record etc etc. for as many lines as is in the download. This is a download TXT file from a Microsoft Axapta ERP system.
I have my table all set up and during the import I want the header records to be dropped. I tried in the validation section for startdate {Not "startdate"} but that did not work. Is there some simple way to ensure the header records are dropped?

Is there a way in which someone can select a table from a drop down list and then search that table for a record then move that record to another table.
For example.
User selects 'Mikey's_table' searchs for a record then move this selected record to 'Mandy's_table'
(all the tables have the same structure etc. identical apart from the name of the table and records within)
I have the list of tables that all the records will be on and the users will know which table the record is in, i basically need to know if there is an ability to search for a record over multiple tables then edit that record and move it to another Table.
I have tried to use a Union Query which works when searching but i cannot edit or move the record ...

I have a data entry form to add new records to an Access database file called Claims. An auto-incrementing sequence number (SeqNbr) needs to be kept PER YEAR. If the user enters a date the sequence number pertaining to the year of this date needs to be incremented. The first record within a new year of course takes value 1.Records can be added at random for different years.
A simple SQL-statement can be made to determine the new sequence number:SELECT max(Claims.SeqNbr) + 1 from Claims where year(this.value) = year(Claims.EventDate)...this.value meaning the value of the date control in which the user entered the date.I need to return the new sequence number to another field on the form in which also the COMPANY CODE, YYYY and MM from the EventDate, the new sequence number and the USER INITIALS are concatenated.

Hello,
I am a novice when it comes to the MS Access interface. My experience has been designing the database and then using ASP pages to query, update, etc. I am now in a new position where I have to modify a switchboard to point to other data sources (i.e. databases) who have been renamed. My problem is that when I open any of those databases all I get is a form (switchboard) that has links to reports. It appears to my novice eye that the switchboard is the only thing that exists within the "main" database and it points to other databases -- when I open those databases another switchboard comes up and I still cannot view the database objects. I hope this makes sense -- believe me, I am attempting to understand this all.
I hope someone can explain to me what's going on -- there has to be a database that I can open and see actual database objects by going to the top menu bar and selecting, "View --> Database Objects --> Tables, Queries, Forms, etc.
Please help!
Thank you!

How would one go about comparing 2 tables and finding those records that are not common to both tables? For instance, I have a table that I suspect some records have been accidently deleted by the user. I would like to compare that table to an older version of the table, and list only those records that exist only in the older version of the table.
Thanks.

Iv'e looked through several date functions but cant figure out which one to use or how. I want to produce all records for a period of 1 year, for 1 year ago. i.e if I run the query during any month of the 'current year' (obvously) if its after August it will show me the previous year of August to following July. My Start date is always August 1st of any year through to the following July 31st. It is relatively straight forward (I think)if it's from January to December because year part is the same but this becomes more complicated when you cover two different Year parts. I dont want to have to use a parameter Query of 'start date' and 'end date' I want to be able to run the query based on the system date now(). Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Field 3: Location No
Field 4: Location Street
Field 5: Location Suburb

From the data sample, I could like to find out the duplicated records. One of the queries is shown as below. But they cannot pick up these records. Any better way to find the duplicated records? Please help.
SELECT DISTINCTROW [C&B-will].[trading name], [C&B-will].[location street], [C&B-will].Field1, [C&B-will].[location no]

I have 2 tables. I want to find all the records between the two that match and then replace the contents of another field with a value such as "*" to signal the matched records.
If I were using dBase I would set a relationship between the two and repl all "fieldname" with "*" for seal = seal.
I have no idea where to start with this in Access. I was thinking it may be a query but I am not sure. It seems that if there is an Unmatched Query there may be a matched query. The replace seems to be more what I am trying to figure out how to do. I have searched on Replace but all I come up with is the basic Find/Replace.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
