I would like to run a query which takes a code which contains a mixture of number and letter and returns all the number before the first letter. I was using the left function (=Left(([Codes],2)) but sometimes there is one number sometime two. The desired results are shown below;

7pol2try36 = 7
12cet9fre55 = 12
10yea3gtr77 = 10

Is this possible?

Auto Number Using A Field And Letters

The big issue is wanting to create the following records in a subform every time a new record in the subform is added. I can populate the Ticket field and know how to cast fields as strings to append them (so I can get the Cylinder field). The output is used to populate a table called Cylinders. My question is:

How do I create a field of letters (or numbers) corresponding to the row in the subform without continuing from the previous letter (or number) in the Cylinders table?

Forms :: Two Text Boxes / Save The First Two Letters Of Each Input?

I want to be able to have two text boxes on my form that firstly concatenate the values inputted and then saves this string to a field.

It's a "new record" form that generates a new record in table "tblUsers".

txtB1 & txtB2 and the text boxes would represent First Name and Last Name.

But it can't be allowed to be saved as the acctual names. - Insead I'm looking for a way to take the first two or three letters of the name and concatenate these into one string of text and save that string to the field tblUsers.ConcatenatedName.

I.E.txtB1:"Carl"
txtB2:"Chapelle"

would generate "CarCha" and save that from the form to the field ConcatenatedName in tblUsers.

Btw, the values form txtB1 and txtB2 (Carl & Chapelle) cant be saved anywhere either!

Found the answer myself;

create a txtB3

And set that source to Left([txtB1];3) & " " & Left([txtB2];3)

Double Return Into A Memo Field

Is there any way in which I can automate a query (or update table query) to find the next date stamp that always starts with 'DATE', and put a double return in before it (so it starts on a new line with a spare line between). This is a table with 2 fields in it, the first being a Customer Reference number, and the second being a memo field, and some of the details and dates are quite vast. As an example the following text that is currently being displayed in the memo field would be displayed as the section below.

From this:-

I'm looking for a bit of code for a module that will return the field name from an expression (that uses an array) instead of returning the value in that field.

Example:
(Minimum is a working module that finds the smallest number in the array)
Field1 = 34
Field2 = 53
Field3 = 21
Field4 = 62

GetFieldName(Minimum([Field1],[Field2],[Field3],[Field4])) = "Field3"

I've searched but can't find a way to select the field name anywhere...

Now, I am trying to find a code to look at these values, find the field it is located, and return the field name. I tried several variations of my code to return the field name rather than the value, but have been unsuccessful to this point.

Return To Empty Field Before Closing

I have a form that requires a specific combo box selection completed prior to closing or it doesn't register the field ID# in the table or display the payment in the payment query. When I click on the accept button on the form, if [PaymentMethodID] is blank, I want to put up a msg box informing me to "choose a Payment Method", then return the cursor to [PaymentMethodID] field to allow the user to make the appropriate selection.How would I write that in VBA.

I have a simple UDF that takes a string and returns a variant, which is an array of strings Example Input "Brick Wall" Return value would be a variant array with first element "Brick" and and second element "Wall" Now I have a table with a field of strings, and I want to make a query that returns all the results from the function, one per line.

So if my input table looks like this

"kick the ball"
"return the pass"

my query result should looks like this

[Orig] [new]
"kick the ball" "kick"
"kick the ball" "the"
"kick the ball" "ball"
"return the pass" "return"
"return the pass" "the"
"return the pass" "pass"

Last time I had to do something like this I used VBA exclusively, with ADO objects, but I thought a query based solution would be easier.

With my current data the largest return array size my function returns is 27 elements but I wouldn't want to rely on that number being fixed.

Return Value From A Table Based On A Text Field

I have created a text field on a form that uses the DateSerial function to return the value of last month e.g. Jul-06.

I have a table that contains months (e.g. Jul-06, Jun-06 etc) and a corresponding numeric value (e.g. 1,2,3).

I have another text box on the same form that I want to display the numeric value in based on the value that has been returned by the DateSerialfunction. What properties/control source should I set for this field? Or do I need to write some VBA?

I just can't get my head round this one and can't even think of a keyword phrase to search on!


SELECT CompID, CaseRef, ServicesID, Summary
FROM qryAllStats;

In my query I need to return all records where there are more than 3 instances of field 'ServicesID' .

For instance in the recordset ServicesID 47 occurs 5 times while ServicesID 36 occurs 4 times and all other ServicesIDs occur 3 times or fewer.

I would need to return all of the records with ID 47 and 36. Is this do-able?

I want to create a MakeTable query that will run through all the records and make a table containing one instance of each room number (for normalizing). Hope that makes sense!

Query To Return A Field To Determine Value For Report

I have a field on a report which I am struggling to produce the right query for.

I have a table - tblTillDept which consists of a 4 fields. The first is the PK, which is the number of a till department. The second - fourth fields are names of 3 different branches of the small garden centre I am writing the database for. The values in these fields are the names of the corresponding departments. Not every branch has exactly the same name for each field.

Prior to the report being is run, a small form, frmCentre pops up asking the user to select the Centre they are printing the labels for. They select the name of the branch from a combo box (cboCentre) bound to a field list of tblTillDept. When the report is formatted, the intention is that the value of this combo box selects the field from which the value for the department is taken. I can see that I need to set the control source of this property to some sort of query, but I can't quite work out how to do it.

I've uploaded the database, written in Access 2000, here (http://www.moppy.co.uk/plants.mdb) as it's too big to post as an attachment.

Return Only Part Of A Large Data Field

Hey all

I have a table that contains a list of news items. For each item there is a link to an appropriate image and a load of text.

I display a list menu of news items showing the picture and the first few lines of text. At the moment for the first few lines of text I have a separate field and just copy and paste the first few lines of the main article into it.

My question is is there a way where instead of having to have a separate field with just the first few lines in I can somehow just retrieve the first few lines of data from the full article field when displaying the menu listing?

Hope this makes sense, and any ideas greatly appreciated.

I have a field in Access 2010 called Section Number which generally holds two characters. The characters can be numbers, letters, or a combination. Examples are:

Sometimes this field holds three characters, such as:

01a
02b

I want to write a query that returns only the Section Numbers that contain two characters. The instances where the field holds three characters are too numerous and changeable to use a parameter that says, for example: not "01a" and not "02b"

Is there a way to write a parameter that means "not Section Numbers of three characters" or "not Section Numbers of more than 2 characters"?
