Forms :: Filter Multiple Criteria - Unique Identifier
Jun 20, 2014
I have a large table with information about different cars, called "Car Metadata". In this, each car has a unique identifier ("Car Code"), the make ("Manufacturer Name") and the model ("Short Model").
What I want to do is create a form with dropdown menus.I have a first combo box with all the makes in the Metadata table.
What I am having trouble with is that I want a second combo box underneath which would only show the models which correspond to the make selected in the first box.E.g. someone could select Ford in the top box and the second box would only show Fiesta, Focus etc.
Once it has done that I want it to be able to write the Car Codes for the records which match up to the make & model selected to a new table. Just to complicate things further, there can be multiple records with the same make and model but different Codes, I want all these multiple codes to be written to the final table.

I have a form that is showing data from 1 table. That table has 12 different fields on it and I want to be able to filter based on selections I make in a combo box in the header of the form. The filter string must be dynamic enough to allow filtering based on 1 criteria selected, or multiple criteria selected. For example:
If I have values in filter fields 3, 5, and 9 I'd want the filter string to be created as follows:
"...WHERE field3 = field3filter.value AND field5 = field5filter.value AND field9 = field9filter.value"
If I have values in only field 7, I'd want th efilter string to be created as follows:
"...WHERE field7 = field7filter.value"
And so on and so on.
I have created some filters before but all of the different VBA syntaxes I'm using seem to come up short.

I have a form bound to a table and I need to display and edit records. I want to narrow down the records by applying two filters; one combobox to select the ClientID and another to select the date. What I have so far is this:
Private Sub CboClientID_AfterUpdate()
Me.Detail.Visible = True
CboDate.RowSource = "Select AppointmentDate " & _
"FROM tblSample " & _
"WHERE ClientID = '" & CboClientID & "' " & _
"ORDER BY AppointmentDate"
End Sub
then in the cboDate afterupdate event I have:
Private Sub CboDate_AfterUpdate()
Me.Filter = "ClientID = '" & Me.CboClientID & "' AND [AppointmentDate] = #" & Me.CboDate & "#"
Me.FilterOn = True
End Sub
This appears to work with some records and not with others and I don't know why?

Hi All.
Is there a way to index and create a unique identifier using a combination of fields (eg. User# + Provider + Date)?
Thanks.

I'm looking into create a small unique identifier to put on top of each invoice generated by the database. (.MDB A2010)where '000' its just 3 zeros added for extra badassery, '1' is the actual ID from the database table and -2014 its the current year when the record was added...So maybe I have info from 2 fields (ID, YEAR)... but How do I add the ceros to the ID field... so its 0001 not 1 or 0135 not 135... ???.

Any way on a table that I can have a unique identifier over two fields? E.g.I have a login ID and a Domain field in a table with sample data below.
Login Domain
John Test
Jane Test
Fred Live
John Live
The login names need to be unique to the domain so the integrity cannot be breached. This has to fit into one table (although the domain is actually being pulled from a look up table so is in fact a numerical value) for ease of form creation.

I have a database in Excel that contains farmers who can be identified by a Unique identifier: MZ-01-0001. The registration details for these farmers are not always up to date. Now when I try to append the data for the farmer with MZ-01-0001; with the primary key set on the Unique identifier, Access does not want to do it since there is already a record in the system. When I remove the primary key it doubles the record, which is also not what I want. So I am wondering what I need to do to append the record while keeping the primary key intact.

I'm currently in the process of doing a an overhaul of the database including a table, some odd 17,500 records long.
What I need to do is to create a unique identifier from the existing part number, almost like an autonumber, but it only increments when there are duplicates. What I mean is that there would be for example, there would be five records of say, part 000135.
What I'm trying to get at is, how I would have to code to grab the existing part numbers (all formatted to be 6 digits), add an extra 2 digits to be its unique identifier, and then save it all to a Unique Identifier column, that I created.
An example of what I want is say, I have part numbers 000135 and 000136. The numbers would go up from 000135-01, 000135-02, 000135-03, 000136-01, 000136-02.... The dash is not as important as implementing the 2 digit unique identifier.

Hi,
I wonder if someone can help with what must be an easy solution to this problem.
I have a table with 350,000 records, but without a unique identifier field. I just want a simple incrementing number field to become the primary key but dont know how to add this in. I cannot add an autonumber as there are two many records - it falls over.
Ive tried exporting it all to excel, but as well as being cumbersome, something went wrong and so I'm back to square one.
I think there must be a way to add an incrementing number either via a query or in VBA but I dont know how. Please can somebody provide a solution.
Thanks,
Adam.

To prevent duplicate records, I use multiple fields indexes, which worked fine until now. I learned that each "empty" fields are consider unique by Access, so not the best in an index to prevent duplicate records. I managed to have it worked using the default value property to give each "empty" records the same value.
Now my problem is that I have a date field which is optional, but I need to use it as a unique identifier in an index. I could again use a default value, but since it has to be a date, I find it confusing. I would rather have a default value of "No date specified" or "-" or even better, "". Unfortunately none of those works with date fields.

Have a table with data in it and I want to add a new field to uniquely identify each record (simple numerical sequence like 1, 2, 3, 4.....). I don't know VBA and don't know SQL.
Tried opening the table in design view, adding a new field with "autonumber" as the data type but get the following error msg: "File sharing lock count exceeded. Increase MaxLocksPerFile registry entry". The table has about 750,000 records in it.

So i have a access database with a main field that we can call vendor # (LIFNR) and another called Company code (BUKRS). There are multiple company codes under a single vendor #. Example:
LIFNR
BUKRS
0000010535
1010
0000010535
5060
0000010535
5610
0000010536
1010
0000010536
5060
0000010536
5610
What I am trying to do is create a 3rd column where i can have a unique row for each of these fields without it repeating. There is no unique identifier in this table and that is what i am trying to achieve.

I have set up a query that will pull data from table1. There are two fields in my query to which I will filter by entering certain basic criteria. In the criteria line of my query field, I have entered "800" to only return this type of data. If I run the query, it returns only those fields, which is exactly what I want. However, I also need an additional filter in another field. I have entered "4", to return only those data matches.
So, my entire query is based on returning only the data from table1 that matches the two criteria ("800" and "4"). Problem is the query will not return any data when I enter the "4". Any ideas why this would happen? There does appear to be an extra space in table 1 for the field containing "4". I have tried to set the criteria to match, but it still does not return any values.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Todd

I am working in MS access 2007.
What I am trying to do is fairly simple i just dont have the ability to correctly code what i want to do.
I want to filter my query based on some criteria in multiple columns. But i only want the query to filter based on the specific criteria if a checkbox has been selected.
Basically i want the criteria for one of the columns criteria to read
IF a check box "Check0" is selected THEN filter the column to only records that = 1 and if "Check2" then filter all records that = 2

I am using MS Access 2007.
I would like to display a report based on the table called "expenses", filtered by:
- "from" (datefrom field) and "to" (dateto field) date on "payment date" field;
- multiple criteria on same field called "payment method" (I would like to include only payment methods "check" and "credit card", but not the other payment methods in the field, such as "cash", "transfer", etc.)
For that end I made a query based on the table "expenses", and in the "payment date", in the criteria field, I entered:
between [form]![formname]![datefrom] and [form]![formname]![dateto]
This works fine so far, however when I attempt to add multiple criteria on the "payment method" field, it does not filter accurately any longer. In the same row of the criteria field where I completed the date criteria, I enter "check". In the next row, same field, I enter "credit card".
Since it doesn't work, I tried putting both arguments in the same line as the date criteria (always in the payment method field) as: "check" and "credit card" but still does not work (now it filters the payment method correctly, but the dates filter appear as if I have never completed them).

I have an access database in which I have a table A and table B. Table A has a list of 200 website URLs. Table B has one column ID and another criteria.
I want to create a query to filter websites list which does not have values or characters from table b.
I have these values in table B that I want to be filtered out or not shown in my URL Select Query
.org
.gov
.du
.pk
.dk
I would keep on adding more criteria into this so criteria table so adding new criteria into table B should not disturb our filtering.
Below is what I have tried but in vain and it says atmost you can atmost one criteria row in sub query
SELECT tableA.WEB_ADDRESS
FROM tableA
WHERE ((([tableA].[wEB_ADDRESS] Not Like '*'+(SELECT * FROM tableB)+'*')=True));

I tried and failed to get this to work using a multiselect listbox..I have a list of departments in tblFunctionalArea...My main table is tblStatic..I want to be able to for each record select multiple departments affected by a record and store them in the tblStatic.After looking around i couldn't find many people successfully maanging to store listbox values in a table...
I decided to create 5 fields in tblStatic and in my form create multiple combo boxes cboFunctionalArea1, cboFunctionalArea2 etc etc which are bound to these fields.I want to be able to ensure the list for any combo box requeries and takes out any selection in the other boxes.
I have this working in a strict cascade fashion i.e. in cbo1 all dept's visible, in cbo2 it takes off whatever was selected in cbo1 etc. But if someone then jumps back and deletes the content of cbo3 then the whole thing breaks or if they amend in the wrong order it breaks

I have a database with several tabs. On each tab is a form in datasheet view. I have a field that when clicked, will open the corresponding form in a dialog. The code used to open the dialog is: =IIf(IsNull([SalesOps_ID]),"(New)","Open") This creates an underlined Open link which, when clicked, opens the dialog.
An embedded macro is attached to this code, telling it which dialog form to open...and a bunch of other stuff I really can't explain (I'm great at stealing shamelessly from other similar projects but don't completely know what the heck I'm doing).
That said, all the other dialog forms work splendidly using this same type of embedded macro, except one very stubborn dialog form that is giving me fits! Interestingly enough, this form has a subform (all the other forms don't). The form opens, I can edit data on the main part of the form, but if I enter data in the subform, when moving to the next record, I get the error message: The identifier [Tasks].[Project ID] could not be found.
Interestingly enough, I don't have any tables, forms, queries, macros or fields that contain anything like [Tasks] or [Project ID]. If I move off the main record, then return to the record, the data in the subform does not display (however, it is in the table - just not displaying). As if that isn't interesting enough, when I open the dialog form on its own, without using the Embedded Macro from the datasheet form, all that data shows just fine and the form works like it's supposed to.I wish there was a way to simply copy all the text from the macro here, but I can't seem to figure out how in Access 2013.

I have a main form with 3 subforms. Each subform is identical except for the value of the filter property. The filter is for the same field, but with a different value for each subform. So, for example, the first subform has a filter of:
Code:
[WBS Element]="DEF" And [Period]=Forms!frm_ProjectFinancials!Period
while the second subform has a filter of:
Code:
[WBS Element]="PPE" And [Period]=Forms!frm_ProjectFinancials!Period
and the third subform has a filter of:
Code:
[WBS Element]="EXP" And [Period]=Forms!frm_ProjectFinancials!Period
The recordset for each subform results in a single record with numeric values in each field or no records at all. When the resulting recordset is empty (no records), the bound text fields on the subform display as blank. I want these fields to display 0 instead of blank so I can use them in other calculated fields. Functions such as Nz or IsNumeric do not work since there are no records and the values are neither null nor numeric.
How I can display zeroes in the bound fields when no records exist that meet the filter criteria? Or is there a way that I can dummy a resulting recordset to have all zero values when there would otherwise be no records?

I have a form that has two different option button frames and 1 text box that I would like my users to be able to use to search/filter for specific records. I chose a form because a table does not work as a user-friendly interface for the data that is being stored. The first option button frame allows the user to filter by Month and is named [FilterDate].The second option button frame allows the user to filter by incomplete and complete records and is named [FilterOption].
The text box is used as a search box and is named [txtsearch].I am able to successfully create macros to apply filters for each of the above options; however, each time one of the options is updated, it removes the previous filter. What I need is creating a macro (preferrably) or vba code (if macro is not possible) so that my users can first pick a month (as this will always be the first thing they do when opening the form), then pick complete or incomplete records within that month if desired. The search box then would only filter records that meet the first two criteria (month and complete/ incomplete).

I have a form where you can select four different options: Health, Dental, Vision, and COBRA, with a button to run a census. Right now, the button runs a DoCMD.OpenReport to open a report named "Census" where there are four text boxes, "Health Coverage Type" "Dental Coverage Type" "Vision Coverage Type" and "COBRA Coverage Type". I want the user to be able to select a checkbox, then filter the report to only enable the text boxes of the corresponding names.
So if someone selects Health & Dental, I want the report to run with the "Health Coverage Type" and "Dental Coverage Type" textboxes enabled/visible, but the other two to be blank.

I have a sub form that shows me a companies history. This subform is used on 2 different Parent forms. The record source for the sub form uses a criteria that looks at a companyID field on the parent to determine which records to return. My question is how do I have the query criteria depend on which form is currently opened? The criteria would look something like this:
[Forms]![frmCompanyHistory]![txtCompanyID] OR [Forms]![frmCompany_Project_Details]![txtCompanyID]
If I open the form with this criteria, I will be asked for a value in txtcompanyID for whatever parent form is not open. How do I properly do this without making multiple queries that are almost identical?

I'm sure this one has been asked time and time again!
I currently have a set of staff questionairres each on a different table.
Currently when I want to export all the scores for one employee to excel (eventually) I have a macro which runs 7 queries, but each asks for the same criteria (Date To & From) and (Staff Name) in turn - very time consuming!
How do I create a query or macro which will ask once for a date range and an employee name and apply to all of my queries?
I am a novice on access and am trying to do this without SQL
Thanks for your help
