Forms :: Form Already In Use Or No Permissions When Multiple Users Are Accessing A Form
Aug 11, 2015
I have my application split, BE and FE. This is a form with a subform. For both I have the properties set to
Data Entry NO
Allow additions NO
Allow Deletions NO
Allow Edits NO
anyone person can open the form, but when a second person tries to open the same form we get the standard, locked by user or user does not have permission. If user 1 logs out then user 2 can get in. So it seems not a permission issue but some setting I have wrong. maybe at the query or table level?
I have been searching for info with users & permission levels. I have ready a lot about ULS (User Level Security) which doesnt seem to be my answer as I do not have admin rights and I believe it is not suitable with Access 2010.
Basically I have an 2010 Access database which is used by my department as a project management tool. It has various tables, forms, queries & reports, I have created a table with user names & passwords and a login form. So when the databases opens the login form is launched & the users selects their user name & enters their password, then the main menu is shown.
Everything works really well, but as the moment there is no difference between all the users. All I want to do is to be able to make one of the Logins read only, ie if the Reviewer is logged in they can see & read every form and run every report but they can not make any edits.
I'm building a DB where I have multiple users. I would like to have all data in 1 table but only give access to records created by the individual user. Is this possible?
Alternatively, if each user has it's own table, how can I report on the sum of all tables.
I have created a profiling form for my school. Each boy can access his form using his admission number ( Adno) which is the primary key. On the form are lots of sub forms - for things like favourite authors, clubs, teams played in etc - but these don't have a primary key ( as they are automatically linked to the Adno via the main form ). Unfortunately when several boys are filling in their own forms at the same time I keep getting error messages, one says that the data can't be updated and another says that there is a primary key problem.
Twice a year, a database of mine is accessed and put too use by various staff within a time range of 1 week. the database is on a shared drive and in a location which can be accessed by all.
The staff access the database from different workstations and in some instances at the same time.
This has only led to issues in the database being copied and then confusing staff on what database to click on thus i have 2 databases which i then have to sift through and copy/paste into the correct one.
I want to know the best way i can:
1) Prevent multiple users accessing the database at a time. 2) making a copy of the original and typing into a separate database.
I am receiving an unexpected message when a user tries to launch a form that the user does not have permission for via the Access Security-Permissions setting that I have configured.
I am trying to set my Access db up so that Guest users can only access 2 Forms - the Switchboard and the Main form. There is a Maintenance Form and I don't want Guest users having access to it.
I have configured Security and created a Group named Guestgrp. I have also created a user named Guest that is assigned to the Users and Guestgrp groups.
The Users group is currently set up with NO permission for any form.
Here are the Guestgrp permissions for the forms, db and tables
The following forms have Open/Run and Read Design permission Switchboard MainForm
The following forms have NO Permissions selected Maintenance Form
The database permission is set to Open/Run
Table permissions The Guest group has Read Design and Read Data permission for all tables
so here is what happens............... My Guest user can log in and launch the Switchboard form and can launch the Main Form from the switchboard. BUT...................... When my Guest user clicks on the Switchboard button for the Maintenance Form, the following message pops up: There was an error executing the command.
Is this the normal way for Access to indicate that the user does NOT have permission to access a form? I am guessing/hoping that it isn't and if configured properly there would be a message indicating that permission is denied or something of that nature.
If anyone has any comments, suggestions on the error in my ways, I appreciate any comments/suggestions/clarifications.
I have an Access 2003 database. I have a form with 5 tabs. I want to prevent some users from editing data on some of the tabs.
I added some logic to the OPEN property of the parent form but it does not work. "Object doesn't support this property or method." What is the correct way of controlling access of the data on the tabs?
In the logic below I first determine the user's permission for each tab. If the user has read-only access they will not be allowed to edit anything on this tab. There are 50 fields on the accounting tab and a subform. If possible, I don't want to have to specify each field individually in the code. Plus there are 5 tabs with numerous fields on each.
BTW: [add designer] is the parent form and [accounting] is the tab.
If DLookup("[permission_studentacct_ReadOnly]", "Users", "Contact_ID = " & Forms![Global]![UserID]) = True Then Forms![Add Designer].[Accounting].AllowEdits = False Else End If
There will multiple users accessing the same database/forms at the same time. How do I ensure that all entries are saved and not overridden by each other entries?
I am not sure how to do this. I am trying to do up a password form where there is a user name and a password. There will only be 5 user names, one being an admin. I seen it in the Running Microsoft Access 2000 book (it's just a reference manual) but could not figure it out.
We use an Oracle base software called Trapeze and Microsoft Access sometime used as a front hand to access the Trapeze oracle tables. Since a user has to be created in Oracle, with update, delete, read, write, append rights, for Trapeze to work correctly Is there a way for me (, even though the user has update, delete, read, write and append rights via oracle) to limit them to "read" only on the table and not update when they access the database through MS Access to create raports? I would like to allow them to create reports by linking to Oracle tables, but I don't want them to be able to update or delete or change the data in those tables. They only way I want them to change the data has to be through the Trapeze GUI front hand application. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.
Basically I have a secured split database. Each user has a copy of the FE on their local drive and the BE is on the server. I have 2 main user groups: FinanceUsers and purchasingUsers
Both groups of users edit data directly in the invoice table ( believe me it was not my idea - I am slowly improving it - enforcing relational integrity and fixing the table and field names and creating forms).
When a Finance user edits data in the Invoice table and tries to close it they get a message asking if they wish to save the design changes if they have changed col widths or anything. They just click no and the table closes. (Is there any way to prevent this message coming up? They do not have modify design permission in any case.)
The main problem is that when a purchasing user edits data in the Invoice table a dialog pops up asking if they wish to save the table as a form, data access page or query. (They do not get the message box asking if they wish to save design changes at all)
If the user clicks cancel the window does not close. If they choose 'form' and type a name for the new form for instance it will not save it (presumable because they do not have 'Open Exclusive' permission). So they cannot close the Invoice table at all.
Both groups have the same permissions on the Invoice table: Read Definition, Read Data, Insert Data, Update Data, Delete Data.
The only difference between their permissions is that Finance users have 'Open Exclusive' permission on the database and Purchasing users do not. This is the same in the BE and FE. I would prefer that no-one had open-exclusive permission really.
It is really odd - It only happens with the tables. Any ideas what is causing it?
I have been using a A2003 file through A2007 to be able to use user security. We are now in A2010 and the users and permissions component is not showing in the Administrator area as it did in A2007, although the security is still functioning. How do I get access to Users and Permissions in A2010?
I have an Access 2000 database and I have hidden the database window in the startup options. I have also saved the database as a .mde file.
However, if a user opens the database while pressing the shift key they can still get access to the queries and tables in the database and can change them.
Is there anyway to prevent users getting access to the tables and queries?
If I need to take the backend of my database offline for changes, what's the best/easiest way to inform the users? Is there some code I can drop into the front end? I'm thinking a "on database open, if [available] in tblClose equals no, then open frmDatabaseOffLine". But I don't know a) if that's possible or b) how to program it.
I want to create a form that allows users to update multiple fields for multiple assets. Below is what I came up with:
Ideally, I'd like the subform to be filled in by having the user select multiple Assets from the S/N combobox field which would then auto-populate the "Type" field. Then they would fill out the appropriate fields they want edited in the top part of the form. They hit save and magic happens. This would also be nice because only assets they want edited would be displayed (easier on the eyes) and no distinguishing would be necessary. To do it this way, I know I would need to use a temp table but I wanna avoid using temp tables.
I know I can do this by adding a Yes/No field in the "Asset" table, setting the "Asset" table as the subform's recordsource, and then putting a checkbox in the subform and allowing them to check the assets that they want to edit (which would also allow me to sort it instantly so that checked Assets are at the top of the datasheet for easy viewing), but I would like to know if there's a way of accomplishing this without the use of checkboxes.
I know I could also use a listbox and that allows them to multi-select items, but I'm not sure if that allows me to group all selected items at the top of the listbox for easy viewing of selected items. Plus it would involve a lot of scrolling (there are over 2k assets).
I have a database that it has 2 forms. Form 1 shows list of received letters Form 2 shows list of send letters Now database has been splitted and back end is on the shared drive and front end there is on each computer and myself and other users have read/write access to the shared drive and me and other users can see all the records. .Now I would like to add something like a check box field to the forms. When I tick the check box for each record other users cannot see that record on the form.
i have a pop up form that users need to fill up whenever they need to Add New Records. everything is working fine. BUT, what should i do that in the next time the user will click the Add New Records it will not show the previous items that have been added? since it is added in the Main Form already, no need to show in the pop up Form again once they wanted to add new records. Once they are still in the pop up form, they can see the newly added items BUT once they exit the pop up form, they cant see those items anymore in that form instead it is in the Main Form already.
I have built a login form which shows or hides all tool bars depending on the user name and password. Can I also control the other permissons like being able to edit forms and tables? I know I can do this using the MS Access built in functionality, but can I do it programatically from my user login screen.
I set the tool bar visibility, close the login form and open the main switchboard using the "on click" button of my login form. Can the above permissions controls be done here as well?
Currently, I have 10 Users running a front end form that connect to back end data where they add to current records and eventually check that the record is complete.
I also have an "Apply Filter" button on the right hand side of the form that allows the user to apply filters to the records to show specific data that is not complete.
I am currently hearing that while the user is working, whether they apply filter or not, it seems as though all of a sudden, all of their completed work dissapears from their recordset hence not allowing them to go back to make changes to it if needed. I can only conclude that when a different user clicks apply filter, all users are affect some how... here are some examples of the code for the filter:
Code: Select Case [cboFilterValues] ' Where the user selects a filter parameter from a dropdown Case "All Data" strSQL = "SELECT * " & _ "FROM [Data Table] " & _ "WHERE [Complete] = No
Then it does:
Code: Me.RecordSource = strSQL
I am basically trying to find a way where only the user wanting to view the filter is affected... FYI, the other users arent actually seeing all the filters from the other user filter choice, they simply loose all their completed work from their form.
Hi, very new to access and chucked in at the deep end. we require a database which will be used by multiple users to place orders. the users are at different locations although they all log on via terminal services so connection issues are minimal. i understand that we require a fe/be database because of the users. the users will only work with forms and reports. they should not be allowed to see the other users orders and the form needs to automatically put the users id into the order. the only way i can see to achieve this is to make a custom form up for each location. would i be right in assuming this? if so, how would i prevent one location from opening up another locations form? infact, i wouldn't want one location to know that there are other forms for other locations. any help would be appreciated. thanks
I apologise for the newbie type question. However, I am a VB not an Access programmer and the syntax for sub-forms always confuses me! (The FAQ by "SJ McAbney" did not help.)
I have an ADP project (pointing to SQL Server, if it makes any difference) and have implemented a security model based around Active Directory. I use this to set a public variable called "lngSecLevel", the higher it's value the more security the user has.
To impose the security, each form has code similar to the following in the form's open event:
If lngSecLevel = 1 Then Me.AllowEdits = False Me.AllowAdditions = False Me.AllowDeletions = False ElseIf lngSecLevel = 2 Then Me.AllowEdits = True Me.AllowAdditions = True Me.AllowDeletions = False ElseIf lngSecLevel = 3 Then Me.AllowEdits = True Me.AllowAdditions = True Me.AllowDeletions = False ElseIf lngSecLevel >= 4 Then Me.AllowEdits = True Me.AllowAdditions = True Me.AllowDeletions = True End If
(so "me" obviously is the form)
I have a sub-form "frmFile Damages sub" which is available on multiple forms (i.e. several different and distinct forms, which display the information on the "frmFile Damages sub" sub-form).
The issue is that it is possible for the same user to have different levels of security depending upon which "master" form is displayed (this is a business requirement).
As the sub-form's open event is called before the master form's open event, I cannot just place similar to the following in the sub-form's open event:
I'm currently trying to create a form which allows the specific users to book a seat at a football match.
I've created all the relevant tables, but I'm struggling on how to interpret the data into them to make the form work. I am new to this sort of design, this design is currently for my university dissertation and I am struggling to get it completed in time.
I have attached my document below to show how far i have come.
What is the best way to accomplish this? I have a database that split into the Front end and the Back end. The form that the users entering the information uses the queries from two sources. One is the a table within Access and the other is an excel spreadsheet that I link to it. How can I update /replace the Excel spreadsheet while users are using the form of the front End?
